Does having VoLTE on drain battery? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

I know it's for phone calls but just leaving it on does it drain more battery?

No, haven't noticed it till now.

No it doesn't.

I believe it does drain battery. But not sure how much

No. Actually it could increase your battery life slightly, since your phone is not switching between 3G and LTE everytime when you receive a SMS or a phone call.

Nexus One Battery Drain

My N1 eats battery like mad. Lost 30% in 2.5 hours with light usage: no calls, no wifi, gps or data. Just reading a document on the phone
I searched and tried this: drain battery completely, charge phone when switched for 8 hours straight but still the same :/
This is with stock Rom and the many of the custom Roms
The phone eats a lot of power trying to connect to a cell tower if the signal in your area is weak.
Mine was doing this and changing the network to GSM (prl) did the trick.
Is your area bad in coverage?

no the area is fine, London Area. Please explain the prl trick
yea mine eats crazy bad, but i always have gps/data running and decent amount of txting
and apps that use and stay running on the Background kill battery too (Tikl)
The answer is froyo with exchange mail pushing. There is a problem with the way it obtains/verifies SSL certs and it cycles the CPU endlessly. It makes the phone get crazy hot and eats the battery. I've had to completely disable exchange email to use my phone with 2.2.

Links are not against the rules, you will be allowed to post links once you have more posts, it is XDA's effort against spam and it works pretty well.
Back to the topic, it is possible that your battery meter is not updating properly. It may say you have 30% but then suddenly you drop down a lot.
Also, first try charging your phone all the way, let it charge for an additional 10 minutes after it says it is fully charged and then wipe battery stats and see how that goes. Wiping the stats will delete the files that are related to battery stats, it is useful when you are trying to recalibrate your battery if for example it says you have 9% and then it just shuts off.

Draining should not really matter, it is not like the old style batteries. Someone may disagree with me though. Why eight hours? And it shouldn't matter if it is on or off. If it is on and you look and it says fully charged, leave it for another half and hour at least. Then wipe battery stats and see what happens.
i did let the battery go at 4% once then wipe batter stats but no luck
My battery is still draining insanely
I followed this guide http://www.villainrom.co.uk/vBwiki/index.php?title=Calibrate_Battery a few months ago and yesterday but no change!!!!
Reading documents drains a lot of power, having white all over the power-hungry screen for a long time.
3 hours, 25% - nothing unusual.

That's a bad guide, letting the battery drain completely flat is one of the worst things you can do to a lithium ion battery. It kills off the capacity.
Charge battery full (prob only take 2 hours), turn off phone charge another half hour. Still plugged in boot into recovery, wipe battery stats.
These batteries have no memory effect, so draining battery does nothing

Cell standby on marshmallow

I've been running marshmallow since the stock images were posted and I always got very nice battery life with doze. As in, I wouldn't have to charge the phone until the next morning. Since last week, however, cell standby is using significantly more battery. Yesterday, I took the device off the charger at 0900, and by 2100 I was already at 25% battery. Screen on time was only 2 hours, and cell standby had more usage than the screen. No matter my signal quality, it seems cell standby is eating my battery. Phone isn't even showing as awake! I also am always connected to WiFi and using T-Mobile WiFi calling.
I know a few users have reported a similar issue since marshmallow, does anyone have an idea of why cell standby is killing battery even though time without signal is 0? Time active is also always under 20 min. Since I'm using WiFi calling, I'd think the phone wouldn't even be searching for a voice signal anyway.
My signal has been worse than abysmal since switching to Marshmallow. I uninstalled Fit, Pay, and Google+ and it got better strangely enough but i still have issues from time to time...

The same happened to me, at the begining with marshmallow (chroma and francokernel) always more than 5h SOT and easy deep sleep... but now, the last night at 1:00AM battery was at 100%, at 5:00AM was 84%... and no wakeloks... i'll take some screenshots
Same here. I swear the battery is draining faster but no wakelock issues.
Plus I believe there is an issue with the signal reporting. Where I know that I get full signal the phone can report zero bars. Switch to airplane mode and back, then suddenly the signal displays correctly!
+1 My signal is terrible anymore, and I certainly was much better on the preview images
At my desk at work, same spot I sit my phone everyday would be in the mid 80s and right now it sits at -103....hit airplane mode and it resets....for a few

I'm having the same issues. Overall, pretty solid battery life but cell standby drainage was high. Been searching forums with no such luck. Sounds like it might just be and Android issue I have to hope gets fixed in an update? I'm using T-Mobile wi-fi calling. I'm in areas with strong LTE signal, but compared to my old phone, the amount of "bars" I'm seeing seem lower and sometimes non existent, although I spent no time without signal.

Battery Drain While Powered Off

My Note 5 (SM-N920I) has poor battery life and after reading the threads on here I assumed that there could be many courses however after resetting my phone I left it turned off for 24h and it dropped 20% battery. I always turn on flight mode at night to and over 8h it will loose 15-20% battery. Does it sound like the battery is defective or am I missing something?
Please help

Do you have root? If you do then use amplify to stop some of the wakelocks and set CPU to change the CPU speed to the lowest when your device screen is off.

Thanks, I don't have root and it is loosing battery when the phone is switched off not just screen off. Surely it shouldn't be losing battery then.

Are you using the version that came with your phone, or are you using something custom (i.e. CyanogenMod or Resurrection Remix)? Did you see what "supposedly" is the highest percent drainer under Settings->Battery?

Based on that, the only thing that I can think of is to turn down your display brightness (even try setting to auto if you haven't already) and if your cell service is often weak/non existent, then put it in airplane mode temporarily to turn off your cell radio (which will also kill calling and texting though). It also depends on just how fast your battery is draining. How much time are you getting with it on? How quickly is it draining (percentage wise per hour for example)?

It sounds like some of that is just the software then as well. Before I unlocked the bootloader and installed CyanogenMod on mine, I used to see it drain quite a bit faster (especially during standby when the screen was off). A big part of that was being able to change the CPU clock speeds (which I lowered on mine) and adjusting it to where many apps couldn't wake up the phone anymore. When doing heavy gaming though, it's pretty much always guaranteed to drain quickly.

I'm not saying the version you are using, but the actual stock software in general. It's definitely not optimized as well for battery life as it can be in a custom ROM and the bloatware doesn't help either. Using the phone for gaming will also take a hefty toll, regardless of what you are running.

Do you mean 10% per hour of screen on time or screen off time? If you lose only 10% for an hour of screen on, you probably get 8-10 hours of screen on time per charge. I only get less than 5.

Anyone can reply and help me? What's the difference between idle and standby? The phone has a stock firmware, never rooted

phone hardly ever goes into deepsleep

As the screenshot, my phone hardly ever goes into deep sleep, I have accubattery installed and I installed better battery stats to check for any unusual wakelocks but everything seems normal.
Settings :
Bluetooth always on connected to mi band
GPS always on but I hardly ever use it as the ss shows
Connected to wifi most of the time.

Is AOD on? I've had AOD on and the device never slept last night. It was only last night that I thought of measuring the drain overnight as I've been noticing an abnormal standby drain. In eight hours of sleep, my phone "slept" for only 14 mins. Tonigt I'll test the standby drain with AOD turned off and report back

Well XiaomiEU ROM works good for the battery despite having some weird small UI bugs. Phone is sleeping now. I still prefer having a locked bootloader and an encrypted device, but battery is on a higher priority than that.
