A lesser minority of USERS jump over the fence and update their phones to open mode despite the contracts. Thus LG's constant end-user PC updates to restrain users from updating to whatever stock ROM they want.
What LG doesn't see is something that TIM Brazil as well as other carriers worldwide do. TIM Brazil buys the phones with a big discount and sell them unlocked at full price.
In the end of the story LG gets stolen, the users don't get their updates as they become available AND the ONLY WINNER HERE is TIM Brazil, among other carriers worldwide. Even in Britain.
I think it's about time LG stopped blaming users and started making carrier contracts get fulfilled. Become more open!!!
Since LG is constantly watching this forum, I believe this will end up getting to the proper channels.
Honestly i didn't completely understand the problem, but i hope they read your post.
And since there is a thread with this title; I want to add what i always say. What LG would worry is to lose customers. You already released Gingerbread waaay toooo late. So that already made people verrryy angry. And after you released it people saw that you were working on a way to cripple rooting. So thats strike 2.
I can't talk for everbody but we didn't buy our phones for "irreplaceable" LG roms. It is an elegant, smooth phone. It is not a performance phone (which i don't care about) It is a P/P phone (price-performance) phone. Best out there for that price. And the second reason is Android. Meaning freedom. To able to do everything you want with your phone.
So.. If i wanted a restricted phone, to let the company empose everything on me i would have bought iPhone. At least they update regulary, give service and updates even to the oldest devices. But no we want to be the master of our phone. Because it's OUR phone. We paid for it, so we should be able to do anything with it. You supply the rom what we do with it is our problem. You already say rooting dismisses warranty. Isn't that enough? So i say LG people should work HARD on customer "satisfaction", not customer "restriction"
(Btw, i am an LG fan. My monitor, my television, my phone... all LG. Not my tablet though that land is still in Apple's reign. So i write this critic to be constructive. I hope someone reads and they stop the nonsense. )
hi.im a loyal Samsung customer. i love their innovations, their experimentation, their ideas!
i love Note series, since Note 1, i never got anyother daily driver phone. it was always Note! the refined version of their S line.
Everybody knows how samsung treated Note 4. it is left like it is not even one of their own.
im not living in Europe or USA or Canada, where u can get subsidy from carriers and get a new phone and pay the rest monthly.
i have to get the cash, get it for almost 40% higher price than its price, or get it imported . i got mine imported.
Yesterday my Note 4 screen gave up on me. the left side of the display flickered and glitched out on its own for NO reason at all! i didnt drop it, i didnt put weight on it, it didnt get wet, NOTHING! all on its own, and mind u its only 20 days old phone.
its under warranty but i cant claim it cause i got it from UK and now i cant go back or send it back cause that would take time and lots of money especially when, if fixed, it comes back.
now i gave it for repair but they didnt satisfy me and said that these issues were common with S5 and onward phones from samsung. risk is higher cause it can be LCD issue which will cost me around $200, where i got this phone for $550
i had a Tab S8.4 this January, that had TERRIBLE battery issue, and after that motherboard died and i had to sell in for parts!
now all these stories and whats the outcome?
well i see many people here saying that looking at support from samsung for note 4 , they will not be getting any more samsung device, and blah blah.... then how come samsung sell millions of newer releases especially in European countries and USA? i mean, majority of their sales are in these areas right?
its sad, how **** their QC has gone, and even software support is ****! everyone knows they will not release 5.1 for international models until after Note 5 comes out.
Note 4 was supposed to be DAWN of new design language for samsung especially for their Flagships, but where is that philosophy now?
im not trying to be that mean dude, but it hurts when u spend ur hard earned money, u wait for a device u love, u get that and after 20 days u find its screen glitch out for no ****ING reason!
this is second time within few months, samsung betrayed me.
and its not just me, no major update in almost a year is bad from samsung.
so all who are saying they will not get Note 5 for lack of SD card slot, or removable battery, PLS STICK TO YOUR WORDS!
they have really really turned themselves like apple. samsung is the new apple now... but atleast, Apple knows a thing or two about QC and Software support. because without software support these phones are nothing more than a piece of hardware!
Unnecessary thread is unnecessary.

Why buy an imported version? Imports always have their risks no matter the brand. A screen replacement is always expensive due to the high costs of the amoled display (oem displays are always much more expensive than their knockoffs). Did you try calling a samsung service center for help? Sometimes they honor the warranty even if it is an import. If not then just send it back to the store you bought it from (should be cheaper than replacing the screen).

i knew i would get such comments and even hate for this. its not a personal matter.
i would eventually get my issue fixed, that not the problem. the problem is Samsung's behavior to its customers.
its us buying their products and when people find unnecessary issues and lack of support from company, we rage like hell. but then at the end we go and buy another one of their over priced product and the cycle keeps going on and on....
the reason of this thread is not to bash samsung or to bash its customers in anyway. i myself like samsung but not anymore and thats because of no one else but samsung themselves.
its only US, customers who can fix lot of issues.
im sure many here would understand my point, sad you didn't

Look it's not that I don't understand your point, it's the fact that your thread number 500 on this subject. I've already said I'm not buying another Samsung product.. I love my note 4 but have grown to dislike the lack of updates and most definitely the lack of open source on the TW side of things.
This is what happens when you take risks for granted. That extra 40% for a local version probably doesn't seem so bad now. You should consider an import as a no warranty device, not to mention you rooting it as well. I don't think I would purchase any kind of device today for $550 without some kind of warranty, unless I had 100% certainty the device would not fail.
I knew the risk when I bought my Note 4 and rooted it the second I brought it home. That was a $700 risk I was willing to accept with nobody else to blame but myself. (Of course I used the ol' amex warranty safety net, I am not totally reckless)
Conclusion: Suck it up, move on, and hopefully learn something from the experience.
I'm with you. The Note 4 amazed me when I got it, but the Lollipop update and amazingly long delays in fixing the issues, seeing all Samsungs old, ****ty models getting 5.1.1 before their newest most expensive flagship phone really soured me off the experience. With the Note 5 looking total ****, it seems like there's no real reason to stay with Samsung. Great hardware (except the Note 5), but their support and software are ****.
I totaly agree with you and I will not buy any Samsung phone/product in the future. I have Note 4 and Tab S and on Note 4 I had to lose warranty and root it to get the ROM that is working to some point and on Tab S I have stock and it is HORRIBLE! Gr8 piece of HW with crappy SW = not worth it! Thx to this incompetent Samsung like engeniers Apple is still on top thx to good support and great SW with lesser HW.

see! i told you guys! samsung says no Note 5 for Europe and also just look at what they made us wait for our Note 4 5.1, this ****ty fingerprint magnet Note 5.
what are the upgrades? NOTHING!
I am getting so frustrated with technology that is sold more or less as beta devices. Often the hardware is up to par, but the software leaves much to wish for.
I have been through Nokia, Ericsson, Panasonic, HTC, LG, iPhone, Sony to name some. And it is all the same. For each device there are 1-3 big updates that actually makes the device better (hopefully). So at the EOL (end of life) the device now works as I as a customer expected it to do in the beginning. But at that time I (and probably most people) are fed up with it and have been looking for something better for maybe a year, as I change when the contract is up.
Let me paint you a picture: Who would be pleased with their new Audi or (insert manufacturer) if the AC worked with half speed? Who would like to only use 2, 4 and sixt gear for the first year or so? Who would enjoy random restarts on Autobahn or any other highway? You get the picture...
Now, would you as the buyer of this expensive car REALLY be satisfied with it being at its peak a couple of months before you drive it to the scrapyard? Rust, dents, scratches but driving as never before... Would that stop you from looking at that new Audi?
I am tired to pay premium money for a half ass device! And what about the smaller updates? Take a look here:
"LG is committed to bringing its customers the utmost in device security. Toward that goal, we are now starting to roll out updates for in-market LG devices potentially vulnerable to Stagefright. As an additional step, LG will be providing security updates on a monthly basis which carriers will then be able to make available to customers immediately. We believe these important steps will demonstrate to LG customers that security is our highest priority."
Yep, they say monthly. MONTHLY! http://www.engadget.com/2015/08/07/lg-stagefright-monthly-security-updates/
Why LG, Sony and others? Why are you treating your paying customers like this? Don´t you think we deserve better, don´t you think we want better, don´t you think we can handle better!?
As for me I will buy the new crap anyway. I like the newest. I like to be in the front of technology. But I hate how cheated you make me feel each time I come home with a new device and only hours after the first start I think: Meh...
So... If I read the outcome (or rather the lack of outcome) of this thread right, you are all happy with how our manufacturers deliver the software and updates to the same?
Then why are the 90% of all threads focus on rooting, next Android version and so on...
Please enlighten me, argue, discuss or for the love of god agree with me that it is too poor as it is.
As oneplus 3T is a controversial launch for all op3 owners and its dev community, this question came in my mind. We all know how oneplus is treating op2 after release of op3, I am just worried they are gonna do the same with Op3 by discontinuing it. And will the same happen with op3T also when again after few months they will come with another new flagship Op4...
As for now, they have proven to be mistrusted, so I'd say they'll discontinue just like they did before.
I don't think they'll be on a 6 month release schedule.
Finally, OnePlus told us this is not indicative of a new line-up and that users should not infer that there will be two separate SKUs (one being superior) in 2017 and beyond — they claim that the OnePlus 3T is a situational phenomenon . . .

I expect they'll release the OP4 around this time next year or a bit earlier. This device mainly seems to be a challenge to the Pixel (and it serves to better position their releases for Christmas sales?)
Sell the 3T for $350 and get the 4, $100 every 6 months or $200 per year for a flagship product is one hell of a deal...
Hopefully there won't be an OP 4T, there will just be an OP 4 this time next year.
Best guess. There'll be a OP4 in six months and another OP device six months after that. This is what a smaller company does. This is what Chinese mobile phone companies do - they release new versions all the time and are continually releasing new devices with the latest hardware.

I dont get why everyone is complaining about new hardware dropping? Its some thing to get excited about not upset!

I think they see it as loosing their bragging rights, since they no longer have "the best" that company makes. It's irrational and somewhat childish, technology does move forward and the phone they bought didn't get any worst because of this (in fact it's still one of the very best around).
To finish my rambling:
1) Buy what you need, not what consumerism and marketing departments tells you to.
2) Once you do buy something, take the most out of it while it still works. I believe that is why we are all here at XDA, is it not?

This is silly. I still have an awesome phone, better software, greater development than virtually any phone, and have gotten great customer service from OnePlus. Every time I have had to deal with Customer Service/ Tech Support, they have been very helpful and answered all my questions, plus have been extremely efficient when handling various situations and when I had to RMA my device they emailedme almost daily to keep me abreast of what was happening with my device. They have already provided several updates and Nougat is in beta testing, but if you don't want to wait, there are plenty of third party Nougat roms already available. The reason they are available, they released all sources and posted stock roms. So I am not sure why you are so butt hurt and say they are proven to be mistrusted just because they released a new device?
Do you guys think it's better to wait for 1+4 or go with 1+3t?
I can resist... but i don't know if my Nexus5 can do it too.
I've read some of the rumors (2k, 4000mah), but i don't know if they can be trusted.
Sorry if i've made any mistakes, but i'm new :>
IMHO, wait if you can. If any of the rumoured specs are right, this should be a really good device! If you can't wait, check out the 3 on eBay. Now that the 3T is out, 3's are showing up for discounts. Seen them as cheap as $310.
Thanks.
I guess I'll wait...
The downside is that there is no specific date nor price around :/
You know, waiting and then it turns out that 1+4 costs 550/600€ would probably kill me...
Like Xiaomi did with Mi Note 2.
Thanks for the advice!

Don't wait.. If you really wanna buy a new phone, do it now. New devices will always come and manufactures themselves will always make them outdated in few months. So don't wait, buy Op3/Op3t whichever is available in your country and enjoy.
That's how it works.

Yea, i get your point.
But i prefer waiting (if my N5 allows me to ) and get a phone with a 2k screen.
1+3t will be available in one week from today... I'm gonna start to count six months from that day asd.

In what way they lied? Did they say that they won't release new phone before next year or what? Why they have to keep 1 year cycle? Because you want them to? What does it change for OP3 user? Their phone specs will get lower somehow? You are getting what you paid for but you expect to be the best for one whole year? Everyone will wait?
I am very happy that they improve, because why not? And it is actually not that they released new phone, they had to produce them more and it was probably just easier to put 821 and battery is just using different voltage.
A lot of butt-hurt here...

I get what you are saying, but that's just how customer point of view, not necessary what explicitly stated by the manufacturer. But, even if what you said is true about standard phones then exactly what exactly is standard? I mean Samsung have tons of phone out each year, and you could also say both the Galaxy S and Note series are just half a year apart, yes they are not exactly the same series of phone, but in many PoV, they are close enough. As far as the manufacturer PoV is concern, OP is considered relatively small company, making two similar phones simultaneously would cost more for them, and thus it make economic sense. But seriously, why would it bother you or anyone? I mean, it is stupid to think that they can't get better android phone half a year from now. Seriously, every month, there is at least a new android phone and most customers would look at the phone that suit them best, or whatever that have the latest and greatest features.
You mention the Samsung phones and yes they are similar but it isn't the exact same model.
Also the note and S series are aimed at different people. I wouldn't want a mobile any bigger than 5.5 and before the op3 I wasn't even sure i wanted to more up to 5.5
If they told customers they were releasing a 3T more people would have waited .
Also I can tell support for the OP3 is going to slowly fade away and be in the same position as the OP2

2K screen, or you mean UHD screen? I have a note 4 right now, and even Notebook w/ UHD, but seriously even after a year and looking at the current situation, i think it's a bit overrated. There still isn't a lot of app or software that take full advantage of that high res. Yes, the screen look nice but only to a certain point. In most cases, it won't be distinguishable from 1080p screen. What suck about it is that your graphic gaming performance will suffer because it's now 4 times the pixels it have to render, and also battery life. Hence I'm leaving the Note 4 to the OP3T.
Should I return my new Mate 10 pro?
very new here. Bought mate 10 pro from amazon recently. Absolutely love the phone. it's so snappy and has fantastic camera and battery life. infact got one for my wife who loves the phone too. But, there are news/rumours circulating that Huawei plans to completely abandon mate 10 pro in north America and last update was in sometime in march.
While rest of the world with same model gets updates it looks like Huawei has turned a blind eye to customers who purchased in the US.
I'm not on of those guys who is willing to root or change device version to get updates. it is one of the reasons to buy a premium device. I'm wondering if I should carry a premium device with no updates in the horizon. I mean I'm not really sure if there is any point in doing so.
Still have about 10 days left. Should I return it or just hope Huawei will update this device and hold on?
are there other easy options to get timely updates?your thoughts pls....

Actually, I think that the US made it extremely difficult for Huawei to sell their product.
So they might have reason to hold back on US handsets.... I just remember that Huawei were almost blacklisted in the USA for a while.....

Hard question, huawei support will probably give you a bs answer so thzat you keep the phone.
I havent heard that they are abandoning the US handsets from what I heard they just late on updates but so are the UK and Australia. For all i know you should not keep the phone if timely updates are important to you.
If you love the phone exept for that one fact i think it is worth keeping it. there is no perfect phone and if updates are not your biggest concern then be it. LG and samsung lack behind on updates even more. so in this regard you are still alright (my friend once did not receive one update in 6 months on his s8 last year) LG v30 (flagship of last year) just got the oreo update.
If you ask me your phone wont be hacked and destroyed if you dont have the latest android security patches (many oems got caught faking the newest versions anyway). and for the safety of your data: lol you give them away for free to all those tech companies anyway so why bother, the intelligence services already have access.
and especially all this huawei is a bad chinese spying company stories are completely made up and not backed by any evidence. this is coming from the only country that actually got caught (snowden leaks) so i would highly doubt everything these "intelligence" services say without providing solid evidence.

I called support yesterday after seeing that article. They told me the US Mate 10 Pro is definitely getting face unlock, camera enhancements and EMUI 8.1 but no guarantee on GPU Turbo... It sucks. I am disappointed. You are better off returning the Mate 10 Pro and getting a P20 Pro. The P20 Pro allows for VoLTE on US carriers including T-Mobile and AT&T out of the box and then you'll get the updates we all want. The international version of the Mate 10 Pro, the BLA-L29, does not support VoLTE out of the box. You have to unlock bootloader and root the phone to make that work and then you'll get the updates you want but I believe every time you update your phone from that point on, you have to set it up from scratch...

I contacted Huawei service as well and they did mention that US version will get an update. I guess US model will be among the last to receive updates as Huawei really doesn't have much market here so they would focus more on other regions. If slow software updates bugs you, yes return the phone. I have been using this phone for 6 months now and i like it except for few s/w bugs which are annoying but not deal breaker for me. Hopefully 8.1 will fix most of those.

spoke with CSR. He didn't give out too much information. He said that this is a new device and chances for not having updates is highly unlikely given huawei is selling these phones as unlocked in US with warranty.
He said it may get delayed depending on when the software is tested and ready for release. But again no commits since he didn't have any dates. The only thing he told was he cannot comment on news from third party sites.

You have to unlock bootloader and root the phone to make that work and then you'll get the updates you want but I believe every time you update your phone from that point on, you have to set it up from scratch...

Don't get hung up on GPU turbo update. I work for the world's best GPU company (NVIDIA) . The numbers they quote are usually fudged. Yes you can have 10-15% perf enhancement with improved power efficiency, But don't read too much into it.
Now coming back to my usage, I rarely game. My usage is usually email, browser, messages, maps. I have moved away from all this phone gaming 3-4 years back. So your news that all updates except GPU turbo update sounds encouraging to me. But then again I'm not sure if I want to buy a sales tech support specialist. Still dilly dallying on my decision to keep the phone or not.
Phone is too good. Just worried about not even getting security updates let alone major updates.

You make excellent points. I don't game on my phone either. They are making the USA wait the longest just with general updates which I'm unhappy with on my BLA-A09. And on my home rig I have a GTX 1080. I'm very happy with Nvidia.

The BLA-L29 works in the USA with VoLTE with which carriers? Maybe you misunderstand me? I said the BLA-L29 does not work with any US carriers with VoLTE. Huawei locked it down since they have a US version of the phone, the BLA-A09.
I'm sincerely curious because I've tried many and have not had success. Definitely did not work with T-Mobile...

lol sorry i just read the part with the mate 10 pro, skipped details on the p20 sentence. sorry
Just picked one up as well on Amazon prime day and also felt a little weary because of lack of updates and also spoke to tech support and reassured me that updates will still come, but not in the manner the rest of the world is receiving. They still intend to be a player in the states in the future so it makes sense for them to continue to support their small fanbase currently in the states. And it seems they have a location in Texas dedicated for phone repairs, and maybe I'm reading too much into it, but hopefully it means they're investing/gambling on a future here in the states.
I have the mate 10 pro usa version ...If I had the option to get it today I would not get it, not because it's not a fantastic phone but because after speaking to their customer service today, the details which I posted in another thread, they have obviously relegated the usa models to unwanted cousin status. It's possible it may get future updates but it is not in their priorities.
I would either get a different make like the oneplus with usa support or get an international version of the P20 or the upcoming mate 20, definitely not a usa model, unless you get it at a bargain price.
Hmm, still interested in buying, but maybe its better to spend the extra $30 on Amazon to get the international version (BLA-L29) and avoid the US model.
Amazon Germany now sells it for 450€ compared to the starting price of 800€ (with tax). I think roughly 40% discount on whatever it started at in the US is a good deal. If you'd only save like 25% for a 'previous-year-flagship' i think its too expensive. Here in Germany/Europe prices of Android phones drop very fast. Especially LG and samsung. The G7 hit us with the ridiculous price of 850€ in Mai and dropped down to 575€ (30%) already, in just 2 months. Samsung S9 dropped from 850€ to 590€ (30%) in 4 months. Thats why the oneplus 6 isnt really the "cheap alternative" here, all the other phones, released before one plus, dropped to 500-600 already.
Then again I dont know how prices develop in the US in general. I would not suggest buying it for more than 65% of its starting price. Thats still too expensive for a phone that wont see much support and with last year's soc. (On the contrary, an extra good deal should be what justifies the bad update policy.)
If I had to choose today, I would opt for a OnePlus 6. It has an attractive price and software support, decent battery life and a faster (future proof) soc. I really think that all the downsides of the OnePlus (mono speaker, camera just under the top 5 and missing ip67) don't overshadow the overall package you get. Especially since there are the exact same waterproofing rubber bands used to seal up the phone than with all the ip67/8 phones.
Same boat, I bought one on Prime Day. Fantastic phone, super fluid, quick, fastest camera I've ever used. The news since on the GPU update, which isn't the be-all as it only works with a limited number of titles at present, is worrisome. While I don't need constant android patches, once every month or two would be nice. - For some reason, I'm not a Samsung fan, can't explain it, just not. Came off a ZTE Axon 7, which was a great phone for 2 years, but the Mate 10 Pro just flies.
What are the options to rebrand to another country on the BLA-L09? - Worth doing, do we loose anything, does anything stop working, and can it still be done?
I just saw that this phone is back down to $499 on Amazon. Then I remembered that the Huawei unlock program ends tomorrow...
