I broke my phone touchscreen and since sony had already dropped support for this device, I'm considering on buying a new smartphone, however the community support for this phone is quite not that bad ,we have official support from paranoidandroid and carbonrom, plus it seems like the dev have found a way to make the camera work properly on custom rom now . Do you think it still worth repairing this smartphone or should I just buy another one?

It depends.
I would probably keep it for another year and repair it and drop on a custom ROM,but it is your decision.
Hi,
if you would try to DIY. A new display an adhesive costs around 30$ at aliexpress. Ok, not original sony, but quality looks good. its not much money for such a good smartphone.

.. I have the possbility to buy my friend's 'old' X1 for a cheap price.
However I'm unsure to do this or whether to just buy a whole new phone all together, and if so, what phone would be just as good as the X1?

I would buy X2 in that case,
I see nothing comparable.
If you have less money get X1, but it's better to buy a new one.
The only interesting choice for some reasons could be
HTC HD2....
Just my 2 cents.
mmm the HD2 is so sexy! or u could get the X3 if u can wait!
If you are italian, TIM sell X1 at 199€ only.
It's a great oppurtunity.
The question is not whether you should, but how much it costs.
...and next time get a security program such as GuardMobile. There would at least be a chance of you recovering your phone.
hello,
I am looking to buy an Xperia Z1 from a guy and I want to know what are the differences between the fake and the original Z1.
How to know if it is not a fake ?
it is the 1st time I am going to get a sony Xperia Smartphone, is there any other thing that I should know ? concerning bootloader, etc ... (for example how to know if it is sim and bootloader unlocked or not) ? knowing that am gonna root and flash custom recovery.
thks
in my opinion you can tell by just touching it. I have never ever seen a fake z1, that aluminum is something that fakers don't want to spend on probably. Also, try dialing *#*#7378423#*#* it should bring up the service menu where you can see all the firmware and phone details as well as the option to test the sensors of the device. Also, IF YOU ARE BRAVE ENOUGH, bring a cup of water. Close all ports and SINK IT. should still work 100% after.
Never saw a Fake one and never heard about someone buy one as this kind of tech it cost to much to the fakers probably. So don't worry, the probability of buy fake Z1 are close to 0% but still the probability to buy a defective one. It will be good to test it in your hands first or if you buy on internet use Paypal and an Platform which work with them (eBay).
Hi Xperia SP users
I have done some disassembly and find out that my LCD screen is indeed broken. Since I am not a rich guy, I decided to replace the screen rather than buying a new device. Touch is fine, it is just the display module that fcked.
However I come up into another problem; all replacement parts are not genuine. Heck of course, I know this. But to actually "buy" one is not easy. The mere 15$ might be cheap for some of you. But for a school student like me, it can actually can impact my $$ life Especially currency conversion.
So what's the problem? Why do I need to ask?
I am searching for someone that has replaced his / her phone screen and that he / she is satisfied with the new screen. I would like to know where he / she bought that replacement part. in this online world.
It is just I am quite worried that I bought a faulty product. Ahem chinese products ahem. But I know some chinese product can indeed perform well, and thus, this thread.
So, do you have anything to recommend me? Whether it is a chinese product or branded, how do feel about your new screen? Would you drop me a link to buy it?
I bought mine on Amazon from Sony. As expected it worked fine.

Hi! I have had my device more than two years now so I'm not super sad, but yesterday when I took it out of my pocket it had some cracks in the screen, not very visible cracks, but apparently enough to destroy the touchscreen functionallity. I think I know what caused the cracks and it was my own fault but that's beside the point.
It will cost me $150 to get the screen repaired, and I'm wondering if it's worth it for that cost? I have looked at new phones and it seems hard to find anything that beats the Z1 in terms of hardware for 150 USD, or even 250, or even 350..
So maybe it's worth getting it repaired. What do you think? Thanks.
how about the c5 ultra or m5 aqua?

Both of those phones seems to not be available like anywhere here in Sweden where I live. And 6" screen is too big for me. I didn't look up the picing of those phones, but I assume that they cost way over 150 USD.
Maybe it's worth sending it in for repair, otherwise it's a bit sad to throw away it when it's hardware is fully working, but just that I can't use it because of the broken touch. There are some downsides though, that they can't guarantee that it willl remain water-proof, and that the Z1 probably isn't going to get Android 6.
I have compared the hardware specs of Xperia Z1 against some other phones and it seems to be holding up pretty well, despite the fact that it's a 3 year old phone, or am I wrong?
If you don't want to spend money on a new phone then it would be worth having the screen replaced.
While you're at it, I'd also replace the battery with a quality replacement too, and shouldn't cost much more because that would have to come out anyway to get to the screen.
I've just replaced the battery on my Z1 because it wasn't holding charge anymore.
The Z1 is a good phone. I wouldn't bin it because of a broken screen.

Thanks for your answer and thanks for the advice of replacing the battery at the same time. Then it will be like brand new again
Ok, the total cost for Screen replacement + Battery replacement would be 218 USD, perhaps I'll get a discount because I'm already replacing the screen, but if not, 218 USD is not too bad.
I can't find any phone that has faster CPU, more ram, and overall better specs for that cost so.. yeah
1) Even now a new z1 will not cost any less than 350$.
2) You can never get a decent phone under or near 150$
Some midrangers can be bought in 250-350$. But don't compare them with recently demoted former flagship.
3) The only hope of getting a good phone with cheapest rates is with chinese oems

Yeah, that's what I thought. Thanks for your answers!
Guy's, question my Sony Xperia Z1 back camera is just showing black
screen when trying to take a photo… I think the people who fixed my screen damaged my camera or I damaged the sensor….
Since I have a AT&T LG G3, do u think I should replace the Z1 camera or unlock the LG G3 for T-mobile… Screen replacement is $100 I've paid, a camera replacement is $70 is it worth it…
Thinking That I can just use the $70 to unlock my AT&T LG G3 instead…

You can always buy a screen from eBay, just for 50$, not a big deal. I have changed it myself. good experience!

You might want to complain the guy who fixed your screen or by making him check if your camera is connected to the mainboard? It's not easy to damage the camera I guess, but the thing is that you don't even need to touch the camera sensor to repair the screen...
To OP, I think 150$ is too much, sadly :/
By the way, mine broke too ! I will be getting this probably: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/LCD-Display-...630061?hash=item1e97e8b86d:g:TycAAOSwDNdVn3z3

A little update: Today I bought a black Xperia Z5 Compact for €460
Thanks everyone that has responded in this thread.
Simple question, simple answers:
Is this phone worth getting now for ~80€(~90$)?
What are the long term usage problems (if any)?
Should I go for a warranty if I plan to root and flash ROMs in the future?
Thx for answers
I think it is a very good buy if you are prepared to install custom rom on it, for me Lineage has been very good so far.
For people who are skilled in customization, is worth a lot!
Dont buy this now, there are many good offering from Xiaomi , Asus, Honor etc which are very good and has 3.5mm jack with expandible storage and solid software support. The people who have it now just are able to use it because of custom ROMs and kernels. Buy a newer smartphone.
Since you have intention of rooting and installing roms, you'd need to be able to unlock the bootloader.
Huawei/Honor has stopped their unlock service , you won't be able to put custom recovery/roms on these phones.
Phones like the Pixel,Nexus,Oneplus and LeEco allows the user to directly unlock the bootloader ,which is why we are able flash TWRP and AOSP,Lineage etc.
Whatever phone you intend to buy , you'll need to be able to unlock the bootloader before you can even start modding. If the bootloader cannot be unlocked , even getting root might not be possible.
I don't think it is worth buying now. I ordered one and it was rejected by china customs and sent back to BG. I cancelled my order and got a refund. A month later the phone shows up at my door! But.....the battery was DEAD flat and the phone was defective with a ghost touch which caused the phone to go crazy after a few minutes on stock .19 eui.
The company has been bankrupt for months and any phones being sold now are either old stock, rejects, refurbished returns, or phones built from recievership parts by some other factory in Shenzeng. No warranty, no ota, glitchy and bloated stock firmware. Not a bad phone but for a little more you can do better.
I have the same question, I'm thinking about getting it and install LineageOS right away. This phone seems very cheap for what it offers compared to others of the same price point, like the Redmi. Depending on when you're, no matter the brand you buy from these Chinese phones, there's no warranty anyway. If not this phone, what is the cheap alternative with good ROM development?
Le Pro 3/Le Max 2 with SD821/820 .
"Simple question, simple answers:"
Do not fool yourself, it is not a simple question. It depends what you expect to get from this phone.
Warranty? You want warranty from a bankrupt Chinese company?
Yeah, right.
If you look at this deal: https://www.kimovil.com/en/compare-smartphones/f_max_d+eurPrice.80 and view it without pink glasses as a disposable item, then go for it; a better deal you won't find (provided there are NO additional costs of custom duty, S&H, etc.)
Once you root it and install a custom ROM, you gonna lose some features which are not present in any custom ROMs (reliable charging, GPS, airplane mode + programmable ON/OFF and alarm wake up from a HARD turned-off state).
But on the plus side, you get a normal UI, instead of that LeEco/LeTV EUI crappola.
