Hello, this is not the first time I'm rooting an Android phone, and I had no problems with any of my past attempts. However, this situation with Huawei P9 EVA-L09 has given me a headache...
I have originally followed this guide:
https://theunlockr.com/2016/12/06/root-huawei-p9-p9-plus/
(which appears to have skipped tiny but crucial part on flashing twrp - so I don't recommend)
Everything was going fine until I have flashed TWRP on my still NOT-rooted Huawei P9 EVA-L09 (adb reboot bootloader ; fastboot flash twrp-3.1.0-0-eva.img) successfully:
target reported max download size of 471859200 bytes
sending 'recovery' (22462 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.639s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.302s]
finished. total time: 0.944s
After this I have used the command fastboot reboot and phone started normally. However when I try booting into custom TWRP recovery I just flashed and get the usual bootloader unlocked warning! I either get stuck at Phone is booting now... or I get into original EMUI Huawei eRecovery.
Did I do something wrong? What do I do after flashing TWRP?
I have read somewhere that original EMUI ROM maybe rewrites custom recovery if OS(ROM) boots before you entered recovery so could this be my problem? How do I reboot directly into TWRP from fastboot to avoid booting into the ROM?
Also, what is the correct way to boot into TWRP, what key combo? Since I get phone bootloader unlocked warning! right after powering on the phone, do I press the combination right away or after the warning shows up? I've been trying to boot custom recovery for hours, this is just silly...
Put simply I can't seem to get into TWRP I just flashed so I can install SuperSU from SD card to root my phone...
I have tried older TWRP version too, didn't help.
Phone is Huawei P9 EVA-L09, Android 7.0 EMUI 5.0, tried both TWRP versions from here: https://dl.twrp.me/eva/
After flashing twrp you should special reboot to twrp. Adb command reboot with pushing vol + and at the same time disconect usb cable. Check this on twrp official

How will I do anything with adb if I'm in fastboot mode? Only fastboot commands work...
Maybe you thought fastboot reboot and key combos, but which combos are correct? The TWRP official page says I should Google for key combo (how come they don't know lol, I guess they had to test the bloody thing?) and I have googled but some people say it's power down, some up, some both, what the f? When I think I got it right I get stuck on Device is booting now...
I've just tried this:
Flash TWRP 3.1.0-0-eva again over ADB
fastboot reboot + VolUp held and USB cabble plugged out
Stuck forever at Device is booting now... (below the Unlocked bootloader warning).
Ofcourse fastboot.

Solved this part by using this TWRP version:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/development/twrp-t3565703
The button combination to enter TWRP on P9 EVA-L09 EMUI 5.0 is - Power and Vol+ buttons held while fastboot reboot command is issued in CMD and USB cable unplugged, all at the same time. After device vibrates you should release only the power button. When you see 'Device is booting...' you can release Vol+ too. TWRP should now boot.
Now on to root...
Solution:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/how-to/twrp-3-0-2-0-n-t3506947/post70927601#post70927601
After flashing EMUI 5.0 EVA-L09C432B378 and update B378_update_data_full_hw_eu and wiping my phone (wipe data/factory reset - yes this was probably stupid without backup or anything), it boots fine but there is no keyboard app, only useless voice control. This wouldn't be a problem if I could get past EMUI welcome screen and install keyboard.apk manually but it won't allow me to use the phone until I log into Google account which I used on the phone before factory reset. It doesn't allow me to access SD card or anything either, doesn't even ask for permission when plugged in. Flash process also rewrote TWRP recovery so I only have eRecovery atm (bootloader is still unlocked but this is useless at this point). I also cannot enable Dev options/USB debugging or reach phone settings (all reset to default obviously) at all because I can't get past EMUI welcome wizard without a keyboard... I can use dialer keypad in emergency call mode before starting the welcome wizard, for example I just checked my IMEI, but most other commands don't work.
Any ideas? I read that there is a rollback version which will enable me to flash the previous EMUI/Android6.0 version, but which rollback is right for my device European EVA-L09C432B378 phone? I don't want to get into more trouble by flashing a wrong file...

I have the same matter here with my Huawei Nova 2i. I have flashed sucessfully TWRP but cannot enter TWRP mode to install root. When I hold Power + Vol+, it stucks on "Device is booting now..." forever. And for normal power up, it show the EMUI recovery. I've tried so many way but useless. [TWRP][P9][3.1.1-1][EMUI 5.x/AOSP N][DECRYPTION SUPPORT] by OldDroid did't help. Is there any version of TWRP can help my Huawei Nova 2i???

Error!
Func NO: 11 (recovery image)
Error NO: 2 (load failed!)
Am I screwed ? :0

Don't understand why you thought that relocking bootloader would help you to enter TWRP, but it's too late for discussions about.
Relocking bootloader trigers hard reset, but hard reset fails if you don't have stock partititions (eg, TWRP means you don't have stock recovery, root means you don't have stock boot partition).
You didn't have and you don't have OS (hence you will not be able to Unlock OEM, and if TWRP was deleted, you can't flash it - TWRP is usually needed to recover)
You should first find out what you really have now :
Press power for long (if needed, even for half a minute), to make sure phone switches off. Make sure USB is disconnected. Boot by Vol+, Vol- and Pow: does it boot to TWRP, eRecovery or to nowhere?
Turn off again, connect by USB to PC (same USB cable, same PC you previously flashed TWRP from or locked/relocked your bootloader from). Power on by Vol- and Pow, does it boot to Fastboot and does Fastboot say that FRP and Bootloader are locked or unlocked.
If you still have TWRP (first test) or if Bootloadr and FRP are unlocked (test 2) in which case you can flash TWRP -you are good, you can try some methods to install stock ROM through TWRP, like HWOTA method:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75787156&postcount=3
If you have eRecovery, you can pull out SD card and pepare it for DLOAD instalation of ROM.
Bad if you don't have any recovery and FRP and/or Bootloader is locked. Maybe DC Phoenix can help you then

Thank you so much for your answer @zgfg
Thanks to you I understood that the phone was never really turning off no matter how long I press (I tried for 1 min approx), so I left it to discharge and when I plugged in I pressed the 3 buttons and it "boots" to EMUI eRecovery. Then I tried the download and restore but it failed of course. I reboot with USB and Vol- and Pow, and it loads the white screen with

With FRP Unlocked you can try to unlock Bootloader - it will fail to hard reset, but if it unlocks, you will be able to flash TWRP.
With TWRP you can try - download and use stock ROM for your model:

Are you on P9 Nougat?
Better use TWRP from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75787111&postcount=1
Nevertheless, what does it mean you cannot access TWRP - does Fastboot on the PC side report successful flashing?
If so, then
- keep USB connected to both phone and PC
- press and keep pressing Vol+, Vol- and Pow on the phone (it will not reboot yet)
-execute fastboot reboot
and immediately after disconnect USB
-keep presing three buttons as above, release Pow when it shows booting
You must be quick (with USB disconnectibg) and do exactly as above - with that phone should reboot to TWRP
If you don"t get it, phone will reboot to System and you will loose TWRP (you will have to flash TWRP agai)
Only when you first time upon flashing enter TWRP as above, TWRP will remain and later you will be able to enter TWRP as usual
Solution
For anyone pretty much, who has ****ed up his Huawei P9:
I got to the state where I could only enter Fastboot mode (Press vol- and connect power cable). When I tried to start the phone / go into recovery it would only display the "Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted" Message. My mistake was to relock the bootloader in an attempt to get the recovery to work.
I looked for hours for the answer, here is what worked for me:
follow this tutorial (the "update firmware" part)
German
English
But with real precision, every step.
If you have a european unbranded L09 you should be fine using the firmware you can find on this site:
https://thedroidguru.com/download-install-huawei-p9-b394-nougat-update-europe/
if not you gotta find the full firmware (3 files!!) yourself - good luck!
If you only want to go back to stock you should be fine afterwards.
If you want to install twrp for root/custom rom/... follow these steps after installing twrp with the tool:
Upon flashing TWRP, FIRST THING YOU MUST DO is rebooting to TWRP. If you don't do that, stock Recovery will ovewrite TWRP.
Find instructions in the TWRP threads how to enforce immediate booting to TWRP, upon you flashed it:
-Type on the PC: fastboot reboot -but don't press Enter yet.
-Press and keep pressing Vol+ and Power buttons together on the phone
-Press Enter on the PC and then immediately unplug USB cabel.
-When phone shows Booting, release Power but keep pressing Vol+. button
Hope this helps, I don't take responsability for anything, happy flashing!

Hi.
I got into problem after flashing the Beta 7.0. I need to restore my phone using fastboot since the eRecovery that I got gave me only 3 options: download latest version and recovery, reboot, shutdown.
I have tried flashing the system.img, boot.img and recovery (both stock and TWRP). During flashing everything looked OK without any error but I still get this when booted:
"Your device has been unlocked and cant be trusted - your device is booting now..." and it got into bootloop.

try to put the update.app of B130 on dload folder on SD Card, external sd or OTG and it should be able to flash..
i had a similar issues, almost was going to go the service center when i was able to flash the firmware B130 thru the auto update from OTG (flash drive) (Hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power).

DLOAD does not work for half a year, ie since Huawei stopped releasing FullOTA-MF-PV builds (it worked only for them)
Here, on XDA there are two proven guides for recovering Nougat (not just for EU c432 but for all custs, not only for P9 L09 but also for L19, L29) - just search for them: HWOTA7, HuRUpdater
PS: You have crossposted the same to several threads?!
I was trying to downgrade and something went wrong.

Same problem but on EVA-AL00 running AL19C636B190
Have u tried to unlock bootloader or flash boot/recovery with fastboot mode?
I have the same problem, any ideas?
I had the same issue, three only thing that worked for me was to get the phone into recovery, vol down and power and flash through DC phoenix
My P9 make "self reset" all time, until battery gets empty. I can't get into recovery
Open hisuite enter recovery area plug phone to pc you see vol down + power screen. Press vol- and power button you must go to fastboot screen. If phone recover by hisuite thats ok.
If not, you need unlocking bootloader with srk tool ( must have unlock code ) flash twrp with command fastboot flash recovery twrp.img or use srk tool to flash twrp recovery.
Enter recovery upload files to sd card, flash L09C432B322 zip than hw_eu zip. Your phone must boot with nougat. (Of course your phone dont C432, you must use your phone B322 files)
If you dont use nougat do a rollback prosedure.

what wersion of twrp ? link. there are MM and N versions, and, if you on MM put N version twrp, you will brick phone.. and, even with dead battery i was able to enter fastboot, when i instaled wrong twrp. but for me solution was simple, instal right twrp and all was good (ofcorse if you didnt delete system)
i can't remember the version but im sure it all arounds in 2.1...something
no i wasn't load the Nougat version because i know i am MM the only thing i remember is the TWRP i load is from SRKTool Lod Chong there was an option there to install twrp recovery
can i be able to enter the fastboot ?
if i can go over to fastboot i can repair this
but i can't go fastboot
volume rocker technique doesn't work
even using adb reboot bootloader too

Easily Unbrick Your Phone via this method
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9/help/huawei-p9-brick-easiest-to-unbrick-t3662350
Hi, I have P10 VTRL09 .. A couple days ago i did relock bootloader and now i can not enter my phone.it stuck at Error mode.
I tried almost every method but it always comes back to error mode. I discharge the batterry and charge, if I am lucky, sometimes it will boot into the system but it will black out. I can not do anything except turn off, but while it was in this stage, i could connect to pc and get detected. pc try to install MTP driver but it also failed. I tried command in adb, it also failed (waiting for devices) ....
Issues :
1.boot loader locked
2.no recovery ( can not be load )
3.can not enter fastboot
4.can not force update
5.PC not detect
Question : Is there a way to make my phone go to fastboot ? so i can relock bootloader with adb and flash new firmware.
i appreciate all the help...please help me.
I have exactly the same issue. With identical error codes. Still trying to work out a solution.
on the Huawei website, the had a bootloader.img installer for older models but none for the p10/ p10 plus
Any advice would be appreciated
Let phone completely discharge even it power off automatically. Then put the phone on the charging it will boot up to system then go to settings >advanced settings>back up&reset> reset all settings
when it boot i cant see anything except black . i can only turn off or volume.
Connect with pc and press power and vol-
It should boot into fastboot. You got the error cause wrong or broken recovery.

Hi, I was having the same problem. Mate 8 EMUI 8.
After looking everywhere and trying all the options available, I wasnt able to resolve.
Finally, I tried FunkyHuawei and got my system back through eRecovery.
Gave them the readings like version no. , build no...etc through fastboot. The required info is on their site. They then reverted with a link of the firmware which I flashed through their FuHunbrick tool. It force updates the entire full last version.
After flashing and booting, the system didnt boot but was able to go to eRecovery and restored my previous version.
If you or anyone else stuck at this error, they can try at their own risk as they dont guarantee anything.
Edit: you should and will be able to boot into fastboot once the battery is totally down and phone shuts off completely. Just press volume down button and insert usb. Try again and again if it doesnt work first time.
Thanks.
Help
First sorry for my English
I have a similar issue:
Huawei P10 Lite
I managed to install TWRP, but when I did that I lost the OTA upgrades, then I tried to install the stock recovery and then the phone doesn't start. It just stay on the first screen (the one with the Huawei logo) and it gets hot as hell. The combination of keys doesn't work, the power key just reboot and gets back to the logo screen. I need your help guys, the phone is 3 month old. Thanks

Hi, let the phone battery dry out totally first. Totally. It should not vibrate at all when you press power button. Leave for a couple of hours more.
Then recharge to 50℅ or more and restart and see if you get to eRecovery or other options.
Are you getting any error screen after logo?
You will definitely get to fastboot by pressing volume down button and inserting usb. Try again n again.

Hi. I did the battery part and the part of the pressing the vol - is and connecting to pc. It started but didn't got into fastboot or bootloader, just turned on normally and then I ran the adb command "adb reboot recovery" and I had to do the battery part again. I am afraid to run "adb reboot bootloader" because the risks of the draining out the battery. I mean my phone does not enter into recovery.
Hello everyone! This is my first time posting here and I am having issues with installing TWRP after unlocking the bootloader. I am new to this kind of stuff and this is my first post here!
I am using a huawei P9 EVA-L19.
After completing all of the steps such as installing I had no problem until I tried booting it:
C:\platform-tools>fastboot boot twrp-3.1.1-0-eva.img
Sending 'boot.img' (22432 KB) OKAY [ 0.479s]
Booting FAILED (remote: 'Command not allowed')
fastboot: error: Command failed
It's also worth mentioning that when I first did "adb devices" I got this:
adb server version (39) doesn't match this client (41); killing...
* daemon started successfully
But after that every command worked without this error message. Any help?

You didn't write your EMUI version - this is most important since different versions of TWRP must be used for EMUI 4, 5 or 8
Supposedly you are on EMUI 5 (Nougat), in that case use the the latest TWRP that was adapted for P9, twrp-3.1.1-1-eva_extended.img,
take it eg from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75787151&postcount=2
Once you flashed TWRP you have to immediately reboot directly from Fastboot to TWRP by (in that order):
- press and keep pressing Vol+
- fastboot reboot, Enter
- immediately disconnect USB
If you fail, TWRP will be overwritten by stock Recovery and you'll have to reflash TWRP
After that, you should 'normally' boot/reboot to TWRP by keeping pressed Vol+
(so not by fastboot boot TWRP)
PS: If you are on EMUI 4 (Marshmallow), use P9-EVA-TWRP-Android-6.img, take it eg from here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72153575&postcount=2
The rest about flashing & immediate rebooting to TWRP, follow the same procedure

While you are in Fastboot, after successful:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-1-eva_extended.img (Enter)
(TWRP must be flashed to recovery, not to boot), do in that order:
- press and keep pressing Vol+
- fastboot reboot (Enter)
- immediately disconnect USB

I know I sound relaly dumb but it seems to have failed. Do I press vol+ once then hold it and release until fastboot reboot or do I hold it right after I flash TWRP? also does the adb server version doenst match this client matter?

Press Vol+ after flashing TWRP,
and KEEP it PRESSED all the time until rebooted to TWRP,
then release Vol+ (once you see you are in TWRP)

Alright it is all done, I booted into it then rebooted to exit. How do I go about booting into it again? Booting off and on and used the Vol+ key it takes me to ERecovery with the EMUI and all, Sorry for being really annoying but I can't find anywhere how to boot back into it.

Pressing Vol+ will boot to TWRP, but phone must be disconnected from USB (if charging, it will boot to eRecovery instead)

Can you describe things precisely snd carefully.
You come to eRecovery when you are booting to system, or when you are booting to TWRP, or both?
Make sure battery is at least 50%, and boot from switched off and USB/charger disconnected
It's also not clear from your first post - did you try to flash TWRP to boot partition, instead of to recovery - if so, then system cannot boot and it goes to eRecovery
What did you do in TWRP when you booted to (did you flash something, Factory reset, etc) or nothing?
And still this info is missing from the first post - what is exactly your full EMUI version/cust/build number, like EVA -L19c432b399 or what

Okay, first of all, I owe you an apology. I want to thank you for helping me with this, as I basically had no knowledge of how anything worked.
I didn't understand you earlier and I realized that I had to press the Vol+ even before turning on the device which will bring me to TWRP, I just thought it'd replace eRecovery. It's all going well and just in case I made a full backup with it.
Once again, thank you a lot!
