Phone says a random number every 10 minutes - never seen before :/ - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone!
My girlfriend has a Galaxy Note 5 (I have the OnePlus 3), recently updated to Android Nougat (recently = 2 weeks ago or so).
Today, all the sudden, her phone has started to say random numbers. I know, sounds weird. It says random numbers every 10 minutes - numbers like 72, 98, 107, 50 (but not in order - it doesn't appear to be a countdown, unless you morph the definition of the word) regardless of internet connection (she tried to keep Wi-Fi and Mobile Data off, it still said a number...).
She did try the obvious basic stuff - clear all recent apps, reboot the phone... No dice! I'm saying she tried, not me, because I'm at work, so...
I asked her to go to the Developer options and show me what apps are running. I'll attach below screenshots of the running services she has on her phone. To me, everything appears to be fine.
Do you have any idea what might cause this? We initially thought it could be Google TTS - since it does sound like it. But there is nothing enabled under Accessibility (as it should be, unless some ghost had turned something on... but no, there is nothing). She even tried to change Google TTS language to French - nope, whatever does this still says random numbers every 10 minutes IN ENGLISH.
I've looked it up on Google... tried various search terms... found nothing relevant. It's as if this is the first time something like this has ever happened.
I'm baffled. And helpless.
Any ideas, please? Thanks in advance!

Nevermind. Turned out it was Samsung Pay.
A Samsung Pay pop-up appeared right as the voice was heard for the 1000th time, and I figured hey... let's look at the permissions for that app (since we can't disable it). Revoked all permissions and... NO MORE VOICE ! YAY !
A factory reset still should be made, I think. Perhaps the upgrade from Marshmallow to Nougat wasn't as smooth as I had thought...

Whoops! The voice still happens. It just didn't happen that one time (after the 10 minutes mark), so we thought it's all good. Now, it's happening at 9 minutes !
She did something a few hours ago. She changed the language of Google TTS to French. But nothing changed. The voice was still saying numbers in English.
Now, after revoking permissions of Samsung Pay, she rebooted the phone & the voice started saying numbers... IN FRENCH.
The best thing about it is that it says that... REGARDLESS OF SOUND MODE ! Priority, silent... It still says them numbers! So, we're gonna have to turn the phone off for the night and perform a reset in the morning, since we'll have to go to bed early.
F*** this s***. Samsung, what the flying f***?!?!?!?!

Yeah... It's still happening...
Did a factory reset... did a settings reset...
Disabled Google TTS, disabled as much as I could of Samsung Pay (blocked notifications & such)... It was okay for a while (a day). Now, it's back!
This is... driving me (/us) nuts! Does anyone know... something... a witch that could help, perhaps...

I'd do that... Actually, I would have slapped a custom ROM on her phone from day 1, but that would have voided the warranty (since, you know, KNOX is such a great & useful thing).
Speaking of KNOX... It trips & dies if you root the device or whatever, but when something as sketchy as this happens (app decides its time has come & starts doing random shenanigans), KNOX is like wha, where? Ugh
For the meantime, my girlfriend has her phone's media volume set to 0 for the most part. I'll take a closer look at her phone tomorrow & see if it happens again (unless it suddenly ran out of numbers to say, it should still be there). If it does, I'll take a "short" video with my phone. From there, this is the plan I was thinking of : another full reset, but this time set everything back from scratch (no automatic restoration of settings / apps / whatever). Just sync contacts & such after setup, then gradually install apps (allowing 1~2 days in between app installs).
Unless... the security update that just arrived today (weighing in at about 70 MB - whereas previous security patches were only 30 MB, wow, this must be something, lol ) changed something...

Phone saying random numbers
Hi did you manage to find out what was causing this as my phone started doing this a week or so before your post,I couldn't find anything from anyone else either.I have the OnePlus 5t.....and it still does it.Not every ten minutes though just random numbers from 62-107.Any ideas

Formhault, did you ever manage to fix this issue? My mom's phone is doing the same thing and I'm almost desperate enough to buy her a new one

It's TTS!
If anyone is still having this issue, kill Google Text-to-Speech Engine.
When I was having this issue, I narrowed it down to TTS, so I went and force-stopped and then disabled it. The voice immediately stopped. It got re-enabled after some updates, so I killed it again. Now it appears enabled but doesn't dare to speak :victory:

One Marshmallow user's impressions

http://tomhorsley.com/rants/doze-mode.html
I'm definitely reverting back to 5.1.1 when I get the time and energy to fool with it .
sounds like that was written by someone who hasn't even tried marshmallow yet. I have yet to experience any missed notifications, alarms or any issues relating to time in any way. If some apps are being affected by this then its a sign to the developer to fix their ****ty code because all of my apps relating to time at all have been working just fine and alot of them are still the same version they were on lollipop. Doze has improved my batter significantly. It sounds like this article was probably written by a developer who cant code properly and instead of improving his skills he'd rather complain and convince everyone to stay away from updates because he is unwilling to evolve. Even the article looks like it was written in paint...
I had indeed a wrong time bug some days ago...really strange and worrying, a reboot fixed it. First time ever since Android Froyo that I experienced something like that.
That author seems to think that Marshmallow's Doze is a horrible thing that breaks all apps that rely on background services, namely alarms and notifications, and couldn't possibly be fixed in 10 years (rather than a few months) due to Google's horrible mistake (rather than devs not fixing their code).
Frankly, it sounds like a bunch of hyperbole.

He's wrong about how doze works. And if he's in the camp that doesn't understand it nor wants to rewrite his app. Then yeh he's the idiot group that Google is targeting and was writing garbage code anyway.
lol complete nonsense, my alarm has worked everyday since i flashed M, even on dev previews...the only issues i have with M are really the "slow to connect wifi when using toggles" and the weird wifi consumption on battery stats
Another annoying issue on M is that if your leave your phone longer in standby mode (display off), wifi turns off and you stop recieving notifications until you turn your phone on again. This is with wifi set to "never turn off", etc.

This actually happened with me a couple of days back, I was travelling, so I put my phone connected to a power bank and went for a nap, woke up to see phone switched off, switching it on throws me a 2nd September date set on my device. Had to manually set the date as no network was available to automatically set the date from servers.

This I had been noticing these days just because of WhatsApp Web. When in standby, WhatsApp Web shows phone not connected error. Just waking the phone reconnects to the WiFi, but happens every 30-40mins.
I have a feeling that folks who never see these problems have their phones charging at night and doze mode doesn't happen when you are charging. I have no convenient way to charge my phone near my bed, so it is not charging and totally idle all night. Email and messaging completely stops. Only the stock alarm clock works. My medication reminder stops working. It might as well be turned off completely. Plus when you do wake up and turn on the phone, all the pent up alerts come through and scare the hell out of you. I hate doze mode.
Settings -> Battery -> ... (menu)-> Battery Optimization --> All apps --> Select whatsapp, etc... and select not optimized.
Test again.
You're welcome.
I already disabled optimization in the battery settings for all the apps that weren't working. They still don't work after sitting overnight. It looks as if that setting has absolutely no effect.

This is a real problem. I tested this on a Nexus 5. The device seems to enter Doze after about 1 hour and this is what happens.
What does work in Doze mode:
- Telephone: call can be heard.
- Alarm: alarm can be heard
What does NOT work in Doze mode:
- Receiving mail notifications directly: it seems to wait for the maintenance window. There is no "ping" from my GMail. No lock screen notification until I picked it up. I turned off battery optimalization as suggested. Like Claghorn says, it doesn't make a difference. When I was sleeping, the time difference between sending the mail and getting a notification can be hours. That is not acceptable: I want to determine whether or not I get a message. I got no control over Doze, except plugging it in. Also, when it sits on the desk at work I need to pick it up or turn the screen on every so often, because I don't know if it "dozed" off again.
Works partially:
- Notification light: It works once mail passes through the maintenance window. It does NOT work before the maintenance window.
I tested all of this with a unrooted, updated Nexus 5. Topic Starter and Claghorn have good points. Why can't I turn this off? I don't want this. I want notification on time, with ping, right now. If I don't I will turn the volume off or set priorities. They could have told me this behavior in a mail or during the update. Important mail from work, family comes in hours late. Not happy with this at all.
Tried all sorts of things, nothing seems to help. And no, battery optimalization is either not enough or has nothing to do with it. I love the Nexus 5. Marshmallow seems to be much smoother than Lollipop. I was happy with the update until I discovered this. Now, I am fustrated. I expect the phone to inform me when I need to be informed. Most days I don't need to save 10% of power anyway. For the first time I want to either root the phone and go back to Lollipop or even Kitkat. I don't know what else can be done. Fustrated.

A quick suggestion -
You may use Doze Mode Editor and edit the script so that your phone never enters Doze mode.
That way you can enjoy Marshmallow without Doze.

Thanks, I will look into that. I'd like to keep Mashmallow as a whole if possible. I think it is a good update in general.
OK, I've looked at the doze mode editor thread and I find that the descriptions of the parameters I can set to be totally confusing, however, the flowchart pointed at in that thread seems to indicate that if I set the "inactive_to" value to something like 24 hours, then all the other doze mode nonsense is unlikely to ever happen (because I'll probably turn on my phone at least once every 24 hours). Does that seem like the best way to essentially turn off doze mode?

I will look into this over the weekend. I find it odd that there isn't simply a switch to turn Doze off, which is a pity. It seems to me it's part of saving energy in general. A switch under Battery would do nicely. It should not be this complicated. That said, I think the UI of Marshmallow is silky smooth, much better than Lollipop. Marshmallow in general in good. It' just this that annoys me.
i'm baffled by google's aversion to end user config. This kind of b.s. is how I found xda and drove me to become a chronic flashaholic. All or nothin I guess.

I get the feeling Google assumes the customer is a developer. A few examples:
- The Nexus 5 does have a notification light: I didn't know until I read 5 reviews and even then I couldn't find any documentation on it. Needed an external app to get it working.
- Battery indicator: I like to have small numbers indicating battery charge: it could be done by hacking KitKat and Lollipop I think. Then at Marshmallow finally there's a (hidden) switch.
- I don't recall having any user guide in the Nexus 5 package. Not that I needed one. But some landing page doing a walkthrough would have been nice. Although there are some walkthroughs in every app
Not fatal flaws, but you wonder why does it need to be that difficult. It scares people away. Not me. I handed the Nexus 5 to some friends on numerous occasions and most found it too "empty". As for me, I want all developer stuff on. So it suprised me, there is no Doze fine tuning. Again, overall I give the Nexus a 8 or 9 out of 10. It fits me. In general I like it. So it's just constructive criticism. The empty layout and raw speed of the Nexus 5 works good in development of apps afterall.
Last night I ran an adb command (generated by the doze mode editor app) to set inactive_to to 24 hours (86400000 milliseconds). I then set an alarm for the next morning in the "Alarm Clock Plus" app (which completely ceased to function after Marshmallow showed up). This morning, the alarm actually went off on time, but the big "Dismiss" button it draws on the screen was totally non-functional. I had to hit the power button to get control (which then caused a popup saying alarm clock plus was non-responsive). I have no idea what caused all that behavior, but at least the alarm actually went off.
Also, with doze mode essentially disabled (in theory anyway), the power dropped from 100% in the evening all the way down to 97% in the morning.
With the exception to facebook and game type apps, Google's apps are the only ones I find that excessively waste resourxes and need to be forced to sleep. If they would get off the constant location polling, media scanning, and logging or at least tone it down a bit some they wouldnt need to implement thier half baked versions of solutions that they hijacked from xda devs

Has anyone noticed in their Note 8 or S8+/S8 what has happened to Smart Lock?

Recently, in my Note 8, no matter what I do, I’m having issues with Smart Lock. Specifically when I’m at home with Trusted Places. It works with the other Smart Lock areas, just not the Trusted Places. I thought if i shutoff WiFi, I fixed it. But, no. It still doesn’t work. About 2 weeks ago, it was working flawlessly. Obviously if the phone wasn’t used for 4 hours, I would have to use a method to unlock my phone, but after that when I was at home it would open without entering any method to unlock the phone. Anyone have this issue? If so, any solutions? I’ve tried so many and I’m getting tired and frustrated. I really don’t want a feature that’s been working on many Android phone including this one for years, make me resent this phone. Not sure if resent is the right word, but I’m sure everyone knows what I’m talking about. What is with Samsung, from how they handled the Note 7 fiasco (I got a lot more help through Verizon), not bringing back the original S Note app, constantly giving us great features then taking them away, etc. I can keep going on and on. If there was another Android phone that had a S Pen comparable to theirs, I really think they would be in trouble with how they are treating us consumers. I’m just really frustrated. Hopefully someone can help with this issue, that shouldn’t be. But based on my Google search, it looks like I’m not the only one. Thanks in advance for your help.

Do you have an Exchange account of some kind on the device? My corporate email disables Trusted Places in my device, but sometimes it kicks in and works for a brief period of time.

Unfortunately, that’s not it. It’s been working flawlessly since I got the phone on release date. It’s just been recently, approximately 2 weeks, that it stopped working. Even then, I’ll get it to work for a dat and then it will stop again.

Oh okay. Only other thing I can think of is software update that was released about that time. Can you try a factory reset after backing up your data?

Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate the thought, but I was trying to figure out another way. I finally got the original S Note app with Action Memo, Photo Note, Idea Sketch, Sketchbook, Easy Chart, etc. on the phone and I really don’t want to take any chances that I lose that app. It’s my favorite app for the Note. Still shocked that Samsung changed it to Samsung Notes. However, you gave me an idea. I normally wipe cache partition when I do updates and I forgot after the last security update. So I just did it and Trusted Places is working so far. Hopefully it continues. Thanks for the suggestion! If this holds up, I will let you know and then I’ll just have to remember to do that after each OTA.
My wife and I use smart lock location at home, hers stopped working 2 days ago and mine stopped yesterday. Must have been an update to an app that is killing it.
Just spoke with a Samsung rep and have a possible solution
Settings >> Apps >> more options ( 3 vertical dots) >> tap on System apps
scroll to "google play services" and clear it's cache, reboot the phone and then check for the issue.
This worked for me.

I just tried this idea for my phone and I thought it worked, but unfortunately I was wrong. I wanted to double check to be certain because one of my work arounds to fix this issue was just rebooting the phone and making sure my location was working and then it would work. So of course since your idea involved rebooting I knew that would help my phone. I was just hoping the added step of clearing the cache would make it work permanently. Are both of your phones still working? I may just forget it and set it up for either the Google Home or mini as a trusted device because this is getting very frustrating. If you could think of anything else, please let me know. Thanks again.
I had the same problem at home and I narrowed down to the GPS not locking down properly in different areas of the house. Open Google Maps and you can see.
So, the next time it stops working, simply add the trusted zone of your area again even though the coordinates are the same.
I have the same coordinates registered 4 times in my device and haven't had an issue since.
It's a stupid solution but works.
i have an N950F running 8.0.0 and for me it stopped working on Nougat. After i clean istalled Oreo, smart lock worked for about 3 days. Now it doesn't again . I already cleaned cache of google play services and since then it works when it want's sometimes it workes sometimes not. is there no way to force it ? i mean once we have unlocked the device we can tap the lock on lockscreen to lock the device again . Is there nothing similar like this to unlock the device if the Automatad way isn't working propertly?
Adding more locations around my home area also didn't helped.
it is also very frustrating that we only can add bluetooth devices to trusted devices instead of i.E. my home router so it would know that i am at home not only through GPS location.

I have the exact same problem! I'm not sure when it started happening, but it has annoyed me more and more over the last couple of weeks. I'll try to add my home again as a second input.
Note8 950F w/ Jan security update (nordic).
edit: it seems to work now when I've added my home two times.
I’ve actually tried all those ideas. I have a paragraph of locations including addresses as well as coordinates. I find that interesting that you mentioned about having four of the same coordinates because I noticed something quite interesting. Sometimes when they’re the same coordinates it will say it’s a duplicate and those I’ve dismissed. However, others that come up don’t come up with that message and I end up having multiple items with the same coordinates. Later on I erase them because I figure they’re just duplicates. I won’t going forward to see if that works. I’m assuming the ones the system catches as duplicates are the ones to not have included. I’m thinking about trying my home or one of my minis to use as a trusted device. I just really would like to get Trusted Places to work, but if not I think that’s the only other option since we can’t use a router as an option and I don’t have any of my Bluetooth speakers on all the time (I’m assuming those won’t work because of that). Please keep us informed in anyone cane up with any other ideas (as I’m sure you all will) and I will do the same.

I haven’t installed Oreo yet. I was waiting to hear what everyone thinks of it. How do you like it? That was one of my ideas that I was hoping would work. The only reason I haven’t installed Oreo besides waiting to hear what people thought. I want to make sure the Note 8 runs as well on it. I know in the past sometimes you upgrade and it makes the phone run worse. Also, I’ve got Nova Prime running , so it’s seems like I have most of the features that come with Oreo already on my phone. Honestly the last and most important reason I haven’t upgraded is the original S Note app. I had it running with Action Memo for quite sometime, but finally after awhile I managed to get it fully installed with Photo Note, Easy Chart, Idea Sketch, Scrapbook, etc. It’s working in its full form. There’s one very minor thing that I never realized wasn’t around since the Note 4 (because I didn’t own the Note 5 since it didn’t have the SD slot). And that’s not being able to bring in a photo from your gallery to Photo Note. Other than that minor item, it works flawlessly. So I really don’t want to lose it. I know eventually I will take my chances, but I was really hoping someone else already updated their phone and it’s still working. By any chance, did you have it fully installed when you updated to Oreo? BTW, the only other option which I put in my other post which another person posted as well is to use the Google Home/mini/max as a trusted device as a workaround.

Ou i like Oreo. I did a clean install and can say that I have Better SOT( on nougat 4 h on oreo 5h ). Else is same as nougat for me... Some changes in Settings UI and some changes in ui here and there nothing interesting. I can't help you with Snote because I didn't use it in past with my older Note 3 or 4 or 5 but now I just learned to use Samsung notes because i am just writing some songtexts with it. I can understand also that users don't want to switch because snote had more features but they are making it harder and harder to get snote back with fully functionality so it is only matter of time until it is fully uncompatible. But I Can find it on play store so it probably still works. If you hold the s pen button and touch the screen with the pen twice you will get an action memo like note with Samsung notes but you probably know that and this is the only thing I need ^^ what do you mean with fully installed after updated to oreo? I did a factory reset before and after I flashed oreo with Odin. And then I restored all my files with smart switch from PC. If you want to keep your data you can wait for OTA update or try dirty flashing with Odin but if you get any fc's after you updated them you will still need to factory reset to get rid of these errors. Thanks for this suggestion but unfortunately I don't own any smart home or Google home devices except of chromecast and this is not enough ^^

I have the same issue lately (maybe 2 weeks at most so mid-March) that I've noticed Smart Lock no longer working most of the time when I'm at home or any other "trusted places". Seriously annoying because as mentioned above (by LegendSmoker) that they should allow routers to be added as trusted devices then it would solve this issue. I'm using the Canadian Note 8 (N950W unlocked) and it was fine from launch up until 1-2 weeks ago roughly and now it prompts the pattern or biometrics most of the time when I am at home. Nothing has helped so far in resolving this so not sure what caused it but hopefully it will start working again soon.
This is very annoying. I've done factory reset but the problem comes back after a few hours of use.
I've discovered something interesting, mine usually works late at night, like after 10p, coincidentally right after my AOD turns off. I've tried manually turning off AOD but that doesn't seem to help. I just realized that I have the do not disturb coming on at 10p also but my wife does not so I don't think it's that. It seems really odd though, that it works late at night, every night.

Thanks for the quick response. I will probably wait for the OTA for Oreo since I’ve waited this long and I’ve heard rumors it’s coming very soon. Yes, I am aware that you are able to open Samsung Notes the same way you were able to open Action Memo.
The S Note app that’s on the Play Store is not the original version and is missing numerous features. While there still a few features that are better than the Samsung Notes app, if that was my choice I would’ve probably followed your lead and stuck with Samsung Notes. Luckily, I was able to get the S Note app with Action Memo installed on my phone pretty quickly and eventually found a way to get the entire S Note app that besides having Action Memo, it also has Photo Note, Easy Chart, Idea Sketch, Scrapbook, and the rest. So that’s what I meant I took me some time to find a way to get the whole app side loaded and fully installed on my phone. I actually found the answer on this site. So I was trying to explain that I am somewhat worried that when I update to Oreo, it won’t work or I’ll have to do it all over again. I really hope not.
I also really hope that Samsung changes it’s mind with Samsung Notes in that either they improve the app with all, if not more, of the S Note features or just bring back S Notes. I didn’t use the S Pen really at all because I was really unaware of all its capabilities, including S Note until I upgrade from the Note 2 to the Note 3. I really think if they expanded the features of the app they would leave a lot of phones in the dust. There’s a member of XDA, tah480, who has some really great ideas on how the could really perfect S Note and make a phenomenal app. I already feel it’s probably the best app ever and with his ideas it would really be unreal.
I hope that it explains what I posted better. Also, while my phone isn’t perfect, I’m wondering if there is a weird delayed issue with location. I’ve added a lot of places in Trusted Places and will always add more every time it doesn’t let me in, but I’ll also open the Map app or ask Google where I am and then sure enough it works, but again only temporarily. It also seems to work temporarily after a reboot.
Oh and to the other post, I actually found the complete opposite about the AOD. I had mine going off at night and I changed it because I though it was having an effect on a clock/weather widget. Now it seem the Smart Lock is actually working better, still unfortunately not like it did. I’m just disappointed because I was really hoping then when I updated to Oreo I was hoping that would fix it, but it sounds like that’s not going to happen.
The only other thing that’s interesting is I notice I have a delayed issue with updating/installing apps on Google Play. They download and then they sit there and either eventually get installed or I have a workaround to get it to work. The only thing I could think about is I disabled the DT ignite (or whatever it was called before). It was my understanding that you should disable it. I’m wondering if I put it back, if these issues would start working again.

Performance and app problems ? U.S. Version...

I am finding that my apps that send notifications, specifically that I send through LIghtflow, are either not notifying, or doing so 30 min. to an hour late.
I am also finding that installing as well as uninstalling apps are quite slow.
POwer saver is not on; battery optimization is not on for the offending apps; they are set to run in the background.
Anyone else experiencing this? Or any suggestions?
Regarding the slow downloads, I am finding the download finishes (according to the status bars, etc), but it then goes into a state of Install Pending. Can't find anything on that.
For anyone who cares, I have it resolved for the time being.
After 2 factory resets, I remembered back to the days i used to root my phones, and remembered that one strongly recommended task in that process was to delete cache.
So I did a final factory reset and deleted the cache also and all seems to be good.
When this crops up again I will try the cache delete w/o a factory reset and see how it goes.
Not getting much help here but I'll keep this thread upgraded.
It is again not working right. Lightroom is either not notifying or it's doing it 30 minutes late.
Play store downloads but then doesn't install for a period of time.
I'm beginning to think something is wrong with the phone.
This thing is driving me nuts. Following is what's going on, and have seen:
I've gone through 4 factory resets. All works find at first. Having decided that maybe there is an app interfering, I installed an app or two, tested, repeat...with delays between repeats. All seems fine.
But then late into the second day, w/o any installs, I goes haywire again. Symptoms are:
I use DGT GTD for my ToDo list. First thing I will notice is that when I add a new task, it will NOT show up in the widget list, and at the same time it stops notifications.
All apps stop sending notifications to Lightflow...or LIghtflow does not recognize the notifications. Not sure which is the case.
When add a new app on the Play Store, it downloads as quick as normal, but then it takes forever to install.
I installed AVAST, and checked for viruses. Came back clean.
I suspect it could be a phone problem. My Mate 9 works fine right now, with all the same apps. But, when a factory reset results in it working (at least during the short time a tech would evaluate), the phone can't be exchanged.
If anyone has any thoughts. I'm all ears. I'll keep posting, hopefully, ultimately, with a resolution. Maybe it'll help someone.

Question My phone randomly talks something about the time

My phone randomly talks something about the time, I'm not getting what she saying (woman voice).
Talkback option is off, I checked that one.
What is this, this is so annoying and creepy.
This is not the first bug, since I bought this phone.
Anyone can help me?
Something put into clock settings?
I found this similar problem, I have exactly the same:
"A couple days ago I started hearing a womans voice at random times, like I had butt dialed someone, but I could Identify where it was coming from. Then while I was scrolling on my phone I hear something something "time". Finally in the middle of the night when everything else was quiet I hear it clear as a bell. A robotic female voice saying "it is time". No notification. No background apps running. I've done a few things to check those things and can't find anything. It is slightly annoying. But more so, creepy AF. Any help would be appreciated."
It's Big Brother sending you subliminal messages
Don't see what it could be other than a notification related thing...something you already forgot that you enabled. There are SO many settings, I doubt I could bring my phone to the same exact config after a factory default.
Try using the notification history feature to track this ghost down.
This sounds like an accessibility setting turned on to me

Ah, yes. That must be it. Good thinking.
I'm betting that you will find the culprit in Bixby Routines. It's under Advanced features.
your question is your phone talks about time, for that u will have to search on google ..
I tried everything, but couldn't helped. I did a factory reset. I always hate to do that, because It takes to much time to put back everything and set up, but at least it helped.
Thanks to everyone.

Home screen weather app disappearing?

For the past two days the temperature display on the stock home screen has disappeared. Additionally, I can't figured out how to access the Google Weather app at all. Restarting the phone brings back the temperature/app to the home screen for a few hours but then it disappears again.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

Go to the Google app and tap the weather in the upper left of the screen. Then the options ellipsis "add to homescreen" and you'll always have access. Mine disappears at least 2 or 3 times / day then all of a sudden it's back. But I don't sweat it now with the home screen weather option.
Thank you, not a bad workaround..it still sucks to not be able to see the temperature at a glance on the lock screen though.
After googling it a little further I seem to have found a fix, clearing the Google App storage. As soon as I did the temperature return to the home screen, hopefully permanently. And hopefully I don't regret clearing over a GB of data from the app lol. I'm not sure what it had saved.

Lol it did disappear for a while yesterday afternoon but was back again this morning on it's own so...
Fortunately, I haven't noticed any other differences with the Google app. It did take a while to load and get back up to speed after I cleared the storage so I think most of the important stuff was restored automatically
Power management, destroyer of worlds.
Any power management apps are suspect, avoid using 3rd party ones.
Check to make sure this isn't what's picking it off.
No clue where or how many places it's found on this variant.
Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is active.
Individual app settings may also be misconfigured for battery savings and background data.
&
Clear system cache.

Yeah I was afraid of that. It has a mind of its own and does what it pleases. I've actually seen it disappear and reappear in the time it takes to get in and out of the shower. I also use a VPN but it doesn't matter, I've tried it both with it on and off. Same result.

Hmm, yeah, for troubleshooting purposes I should also mention I use an always-on VPN too (wireguard to my home network where I have Pi-Hole setup). Initially, I thought that it could be Pi-Hole blocking related but after restarting my phone with it the VPN off a few days ago, like you said it still disappeared eventually.
lol fwiw, I sent a feedback message through the Google app describing the issue, maybe at some point they find the issue.

Try a network reset... and clear the system cache (this cures many strange glitches).
I just had to do a full Factory reset, and still this get removed randomly. Pretty annoying since Google wont let us remove it, and I don't know of any good solutions to remove it like we can the Google search bar, thanks to eg.
I really like the work-around outlined above.

With a factory reset even if does work the issue is likely to reoccur. Best to find the root cause.
Factory resets are useful for viruses, rootkits, major firmware updates and boot loops.
The modern Android OS can be surprisingly secure, robust and long lived.
Those who update/upgrade will not see this longevity and will be forced to do factory resets for optimum functionality (assuming the upgrade doesn't ruin the user experience, frequently it does). Google can't help itself*... you can.
*constant change is the rule and frequently Google will maim and degrade their product usability even cancel it. It's their nature...

I have never had this problem, but I have wiped a couple of times now after updating to the next version of 12, and I've been on it since DP1.
Maybe a wipe couldn't hurt to try. Save any apps' .apks that you didn't get from the Play Store to G Drive or Dropbox or something like that. Force a backup for everything with adb shell to backup to G Drive (Google's backup system is surprisingly good now) and after restoring it, all you'll have to do is sign into apps again. Also, save anything you want to keep in /downloads.
Wiping is really only a minor inconvenience if you do preparation and/or prepare for the possibility of it being something you have to do beforehand.
That being said, I really miss the days of TWRP backups and an extSD

I don't use any Google backup, except Gmail which stores it automatically, on my 10+, all critical data goes on the data drive ie SD card.
That in turn is redundantly backed up on a flashstick and hdds.
Texts, AT&T backup.
Google play Services runs only as needed. Google Backup Transport, Framework and Firebase never run... I killed Google as much as was practical.
So the no cloud apps running draining bandwidth and battery. I took some time, used trial/error and thought it through. I've had it with big sister Gookill Hard experience has taught me not to trust Google over the last 15+ years. Got tried of getting burned. Gmail was so much better 12 years ago, it's zenith... a prime example of the incompetence of Google. Or Picasso
I backup all my apps and updates with ApkExport so no Playstore is needed on a reload. Homescreen and themes are backup by Samsung StartSwitch. All critical apps like Poweramp, ColorNote, etc have their settings saved the the SD card, etc.
Basically I can do a full restore with no internet connection save text messages. Apps that don't permit saved backups may be lost but in the case of malware or an unknown issue that may be a good thing. After 2 back to back boot loops and factory resets over a year ago... I streamlined the time wasting reload process.
I expect to reload at 6 months or so when the OS started to show signs of age. Not so. All I do is minimum maintenance with SD Maid and the old Samsung Device Care cleaner. Of all my XP, XPx64, W7, Kitkat loads over the years this stock Pie load has proven to have aged exceptionally well. There were a couple times I had to do some serious witch hunting because of a rogue app or a hidden setting issue but was able to resolve it without damage to the OS.
So I just leave it be...
In my experience the Android Pie has proven to be robust and very versatile.
Because I'm running a stock AT&T 10+, TWRP backups are not possible
And just like that my weather is gone. Two beers at the local brewery and adios. I'll ask the Mrs. what the weather holds for tomorrow. Can I say, Ok Google you win, give me back my weather?

Ok, I think some confusion by my post. I most certainly did NOT perform the factory reset in hopes to fix this Weather bug.. I was just stating that even on a fresh install this is still happening.. Google needs to address/fix it.

I'm very confused by your posts. They are completely OT.
Are you even using the Pixel 5.
Heck, are you even on Android 11?
Please start a new thread, or find one that suits what you'd like to speak about, as this isn't the place to talk about de-Googleing, as much as I agree with it.

All Androids share common problems and solutions. I cross platform searches between manufacturers/devices/Android versions frequently to find solutions... otherwise my 10+/Pie still be a mess!
If the issue still remains after a factory reset it just proves the original settings may be misconfigured from the get go. Putting it in Safe mode would have been enough.
You need to play with it and start looking hard.
Cross platform as I described when doing Google searches and use multiple search engines.
You don't see me posting threads about issues I have until they're fixed. I try to post solutions only. Occasionally I acknowledge a known issue as glitches are common... as are work arounds.
As for Android 11, you have my sympathy. A lot of 3rd party diagnostic tools were lost starting with Q making your task harder.

Just found this solution:
https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/comments/n6vxp4
That works for now The other tip I saw was rather than removing the new widget like in the video, keep it on another screen. For now I removed it but if it disappears again (which it probably will), I'm going to try that.

I wonder if this will even be a thing when Android 12 comes out. As of beta 5 there is no weather on the lockscreen but it's not certain it will stay that way for release.
