Xperia Z1 freezes very soon after startup! - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Since yesterday I got a problem that soon after startup my phone freezes. When it freezes I have to hard reset the phone(power button+vulune up). Before that my phone was working fine. but I wanted to reset my phone to clear up some space. I did that by going into the TWRP recovery and wiped cache, data, dalvik, internal/external storage and system. Because I deleted the system partition TWRP said there was no OS installed. This was very stupid that I wiped the system partition. But I thought that I could just flash the stock firmware back in flashtool so i did that. But now my phone freezes very soon as it started up. so I cant even complete the setup of the phone.
There was one thing that stud out to me. That was an error that I got when flashing the firmwares. the error was: warn - unit 2212 not found in bundle. Maybe this means something. I googled it but couldn't find a solution to the error message.
The things I tried:
-Flashed the stock firmware(centrel europe 1, central europe 5, customized netherlands)
-Flashed the stock firmware + flashed 2 different(kernel 1 and 2) custom kernels(centrel europe 1, central europe 5, customized netherlands)
-Flashed this kernel and installed this rom
-Flashed the boot.img from the lastest CyanogenMod 12.1 build and installed that rom
I did all this and it was always the same problem. I don't know what to do anymore. I hope you guys can help me. If u need more info I will try to give that.
Ive spend my whole day searching for an solution for this problem. But still I havent found any solution.

3rd: You should use the tool Emma. It's been free for a few years now. You can find it on the web, I remember having seen it on chip.de some time ago.
This tool is exactly what you need and has saved my phone's ass more than one time.
It basically un-does any software modification you've ever done and enables you to start from scratch!

Thanks you for your answer on my post!
Unfortunately Emma didn't solve my issue. I tried it several times with 3 different firmwares(those were the only available). I also relocked the bootloader and tried reparing the phone through Xperia Companion. But that gave the same result. I made a video were you ca see the problem. The link will be in the post 60 minutes after this post. I hope my problem will get solved!
Thanks for your time!

I think I found the problem!
So I think that the SD card is the problem. When I installed a firmware trough Emma I took my SD-card and Sim-card out and put them in my backup phone(so people could just call me etc.). And then suddenly the phone worked. I first put in my Sim-card in my phone so I could install whatsapp and have my contants loaded. Then I plugged my SD-card in and after 3-5 minutes the phone froze. So I think it's the SD-card. I am not sure yet but I am going to do some more tests with different SD-cards. I will let you know every update!

Bricked Knox'ed i9305 HELP NEEDED

Hello community,
I have actually came across a difficult situation with my Galaxy S3 LTE i9305 (international variant).
In order to give you a high level view of what happened im going to write a few topics of what I have flashed to the phone since I bought it (new) back in March 2012:
1. I'm from Portugal and I bought the phone on an online retailer because I wanted the grey version. So far so good I ordered it on the UK.
2. The phone I received, although being unlocked and sealed/new, had software branding from MDA germany.
3. At the time we were on Android 4.1.2. I went to sammobile and installed the TPH version (Portugal) of 4.1.2 in order to have the full stock experience. Eventually I rooted the device.
4. Later on came the 4.3. At the time I was not aware of the bootloader complications and ended installing the UK or German version (clean) that was on Sammobile. Installation went fine and I immediately rooted the device without issues and disabled Knox in the Rom.
5. Yesterday I had this great idea of flashing 4.4 (still unaware of bootloader issues) and downloaded the spankin new 4.4.4. from the nordic countries from sammobile. This is where it gets interesting.
6. I have tried a zillion combinations and either I get stuck on the samsung logo or I get the error of binary 3 and device 2 (or the other way around). All the flashes via ODIN have been done using the AP/PDA option.
What can I do to unbrick it? I don't remember which ROM I flashed for 4.3 and I have tried to flash the german version of 4.4 (set 2014) and the nordic countries one. Also tried flashing 4.1.2 via CWM recovery directly from SD card but still no go and stuck at bootloop. Have also tried software repair using Kies (manually inserting serial number under the battery) and still no go for my dismay...
Is it recoverable? Is there a way to upgrade it to 4.4? If it helps so far I have been able to fash stuff via ODIN and still have download mode. I dont care about data as I did make a backup before setting off on this "adventure"
Thanks in advance.
Eventually solved using Philz recovery. Turns out that during the flash process for some reason the /data partition could not be formatted.
Now recovered and running the clean 4.4.4. of XDA

HELP: Upgraded from stock 4.2.2 to 4.4 and lost network connectivity

Hello All,
Tried searching for a case peculiar as mine, wasnt able to find one so here is the lowdown.
1. Xperia C6603 , originally had 4.2.2 stock ROM which was working fine with my local network. Dont remember the baseband version.
2. Used XperiFirm to download the latest firmware as reported in the list. Dont know what does the suffix RxD (R1D--R8D) means. Anyone please explain. As per the below screenshot downloaded version "C6603_Customized HK_1270-5695_10.5.1.A.0.292_R1D" .
3. Before flashing the downloaded firmware I flashed the dualrecovery from XZDualRecovery. I made a TWRP backup of the 4.2.2 stock ROM on an external SD card, for all partitions including TA,system, boot etc.
4. Used Flashtool to convert the downloaded (step 2) firmware "FILES" format to a flashable FTF file. Flashed the firmware , which went on smoothly.
5. At the first startup I got the following screen , telling me that it is a prototype device/firmware . I went on to see that the network which was working fine with stock ROM 4.2.2 was no longer available.
I tried to go to settings to check and search for networks, which shows available networks, but unable to get itself registered to the SIM providers network. Tried all the settings combinations in menu "*#*#4636*#*#" , nothing makes it work to get the GSM network connectivity back. It is supposedly on the correct setting of LTE/WCDMA/GSM which my current operator supports. Following is the "About" screen for current baseband version.
Tried going in the "Service" menu via "*#*#7378423#*#*" , with the following info, having an unknown modem configuration.
6. Tried reverting back to the old TWRP backup, for which I needed the TWRP recovery loaded on the phone. So ran the XZDualRecovery script again (with the new 4.4 ROM on the phone), however the script hangs around in the end and never reboots the phone with the TWRP recovery. So i am unable to revert and use the stock ROM backups .
7. I dont want to root/unlock the bootloader, however I tried installing TWRP via its "XZrecovery.apk", but it requires busybox (which requires a rooted phone). So i tried the rooting script from [GUIDE] How to root 10.5.1.A.0.283 / 10.5.1.A.0.292 [Locked Bootloader], but it also hangs around in the end and never delivers a rooted phone.
8. Tried looking around for assortment of xperia Z baseband files to check and see if flashing it separately can make it work, however to no avail the the condition persists.
Either ways having a prototype version on the phone which transmits all data back to sony is not desirable at all. So need to replace it for sure. Currently I am stuck in the middle without a clue of how to go back and restore the 4.2.2 TWRP backup, or to actually flash a "non-prototype" or retail version of 4.4.x .
Any help/guidance/suggestions to remedy would be appreciated.
Thanks.
=====================UPDATE
Ok followed the instructions at [GUIDE] How to root 10.5.1.A.0.283 / 10.5.1.A.0.292 [Locked Bootloader] , read carefully again to flash the .230 kernel. Flashed the XZDualRecovery and got the TWRP recovery back.
Restored the old 4.2.2 TWRP backup , hoping that everything would go back to normal. However with a successul restore and a reboot, I was amazed to see I still have no network connectivity. The baseband version is "9x15A-ACEFWMAZQ-30110068-44" . Another noticeable thing was that after the restore and first boot, I still got the "prototype device" message again, which was not there when I first booted the device with original stock 4.2.2 ROM before this flashing adventure began.
Any ideas what may have gone bad.
Thanks.
=======================================
Just got to know that my device is a BROWN device, its IMEI number starts from 0044 so it is a prototype. Any ideas is it really good or bad to have one. Also I see that after another restore of the original stock 4.2.2 ROM it is barely getting the signals indoor (1 bar only). The signal reception is very weak and sporadic . Should i keep the device or not and is there any remedy or network signal strength.
Thanks.

Firstly I love the detail you have provided which would save you and me a lot of time to pinpoint the exact problem and work it accordingly.
Firstly, I would suggest that if you have a box or any other receipt that shows your exact device name with its basebands. Where did you buy it from and what is your exact location so we can guess your region. This is the time to show it now. Also which basebands work in your location can also help us out.
The problem you have made it flashed basebands of a different variant which has resulted in loss of network. So to fix it we need, and there are three ways about it.
First, download Sony PC companion and try to repair your phone and see if that helps.
Secondly, download flashtool and ftf for your device (make sure you select the right variant this time. Choosing for wrong device can hard brick your phone. so beware) and flash your phone with it.
If all this fails, you go to Sony flashtool called Emma. Download it and try to flash it with that.
You can google how to use every tool on xda and I am sure you would find a lot of guides for that.

SM-G900F - Need original firmware

Hi guys,
My S5 was on 6.0 and have upgraded to 9 Pie but something went wrong (or I screwed up something) and I need to re-upload the original firmware, unless you have better suggestion.
Currently, I have TWRP installed as well as Android 9, however, when I turn my S5 on, I get: Set Warranty Bit:Kernel
It stays there for 30 secs then the phone boots up and everything looks fine, it connects to wi-fi etc.
One other strange thing is that I get a message on the home screen saying: unsupported SanDisk SD Card
I tried a new one, same message.
Before I started this process, I connected the phone to my PC and copied both the Phone and the Card folders, so I am good, data wise.
Basically I was thinking to go back to the very first OS, I think 4.4.2 and then re-load Lineage 16 using TWRP.
If I read the baseband version # is: G900FXXU1ANCE
If the procedure above is correct, would you be able to provide me a link to download the firmware?
I tried all the known sites, but their speed sucks, so I thought to ask here as somebody may have a link.
I will use Odin latest version to install it.
Thank you!
Alex
Access to the original/official firmware for SM-G900F would be extremely helpful for me as well.
I'm running LOS 16 with pico GApps very happily on my S5, however I have mobile data connectivity issues. Data connects and disconnects at random; this is device-dependent (swapping the SIM into other devices gives fully functional data connectivity).
My baseband is G900FXXU1BOA3; I believe updating the modem might fix this?

Fox, you may download the official firmware at https://samsung-firmware.org/model/SM-G900F/
Select your region to get the right ***.md5.tar file to flah via Odin latest.
This will reset your handheld to out of box - original recovery reinstalled - you must reflash it also via Odin if you want to go back to custom Rom..
Good luck
.
Thank you.
What would be my region?
I purchased it in the US unlocked, but US is not a choice when it comes to region.
Would I be able to see the region the phone is from from the baseband #?

If your reference to the baseband version# is correct -> G900FXXU1ANCE, then the region is BTU -> check this address to download the original firmware:
https://samsung-firmware.org/downlo...agon-__/1806/BTU/G900FXXU1ANCE/G900FOXA1ANCE/
After flash via Odin, reboot and optional reinstall TWRP via Odin to use other custom Roms.
Are you sure you did everything before resuming to scratch. Personaly I would have done the following:
- back up in TWRP (at least data) + back up in google drive if you use google or titanium, (anyway save your picts, ...) if rooted, it is possible to save the file containing SMS, ... search in XDA,
- format (not wipe) !!!! WARNING THIS WILL ERASE ALL !!!!!
- clean install the ROM (lineageOS or else) + optional Gapps (I use Pico),
- reboot and restore data (as shown in 2 above)
(The Roms I use on my two KLTE by personal preference order are Havoc, DotOS, Bootleggers, Resurection Remix, MSM-Extended. I also use LineageOS.

That site is very buggy, if I search my model and enter all the other info I get to Lollipop 5.0, if I click your link, although I am registered, it does not allow me to the link you provided, I mean I can get to it but when I try to login, it takes me back to the home page, so there is no way to get to your same link while being logged in.
How do I get do the download page it is a mystery to me.
Also, how do you know from the base band that it is BTU region?
Thank you
Alex
PS: I managed to use your link in IE, this site is stone age! Unbelievable, never seen a website like this, there are bugs everywhere.

Men, the subject of resuming to firmware has been discussed and is described in the net literature! e.g. in XDA Q&A.
This discussion is now not a thread anymore but a dialog and I’m sure it will be closed by XDA moderator for redundancy.
The warnings given when you flash a custom Rom are clear. It also implies “before all” to backup, but also keep all materials to resume to original firmware, …. Now I cannot help anymore because you have problem with downloading the firmware.
Last advice – google baseband# - there are probably other web options or torrents
!!!!Also use the thanks button!!!!

1. Its normal to have the "Set warranty: kernel" text. As my device does too. Just simply ignore it. It won't harm your device.
2. Basically you can search websites that had official Samsung stock firmware. Search your region of your device and (IMPORTANT!) your model, in your case, is G900F. (Wow same as mine but different region, Snapdragon rocks).
3. To your network problem, I think you need to wait. There is no other option.
Thanks!
Edit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2715487
XDA forums has one. Tip: if your region isn't there, the replies have all the filmwares you can have.

I have downloaded the firmware and this evening I will try to upload it and see what happens.
I still I have no answer to my question: how did you figure out that my firmware is BTU?
I mean, I gave you my baseband version #: G900FXXU1ANCE and when you eventually find it in any firmware sites you are given the choice to choose among many countries, expect USA and Canada.
Since I bought the phone in the US I still wouldn't know which country the firmware is from.
Would you mind to shed some light on this?
Thank you!

Thank you for your feedback John.
I am not sure that message is normal, if you google it they all say it is an issue with the firmware and that you need to go back to the stock one to fix it.
Is there anyone else with lineage having that same message?
Also, when I try to format my SD Card, it gets stuck to 40% and then it goes to the homepage.
I tried also a brand new card, same story.
It gives a message but it goes away after a few secs., I believe it is a Java message, but I can try again and take a picture of it.
Thank you,
Alex

I have downloaded the firmware and this evening I will try to upload it and see what happens.
I still I have no answer to my question: how did you figure out that my firmware is BTU?
I mean, I gave you my baseband version #: G900FXXU1ANCE and when you eventually find it in any firmware sites you are given the choice to choose among many countries, expect USA and Canada.
Since I bought the phone in the US I still wouldn't know which country the firmware is from.
Would you mind to shed some light on this?
Thank you!

I tell you my experience:
No matter the country you bought your device. As example, I leave in France, I bought mine in Hong-Kong, but choose an international device (G900F).
Before flashing anything, I checked all information in settings and recovery.
Pict below is original out of box G900FXXU1BOC7
Recovery information after latest update G900FXXS1CQD1
It happened recently 2 times my device was stuck because encription issues – I recover by reflashing original G900FXXU1BOC7 via Odin
I personally downloaded firmware as G900F – BTU, because I check the version at each updates and this sticked to BTU ONLY.
May be the site SamMobile will be more meaningful for you, because you see Countries/Operators and updates history.
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s5/firmware/SM-G900F/BTU/
For your device, you have to grab the search to find the closest original (which you have) to latest update (if you have it).
For the Kernel yellow tag at warmup, this is done when you flash TWRP. No issues since 2 years operation with that using LineageOS, Havoc, DotOS, AOSP, Bootleggers, RR, ViperOS. If you flash original firmware, it will disappear because twrp is erased and original stock recovery flashed.

When it said that you go back to stock one to fix it. Then want if it is not stock? The message is still there. Its normal if you want to install a custom ROM other than the stock one. I reinstall the stock and install custom ROM again once. It still happened.
I don't know how to remove the text but still have a custom ROM tho.
As for the SD card message, I encountered times before. Maybe you need to format using the computer.

When I reflash the stock ROM TWRP is still there. However no "Set warranty: kernel" appeared. Maybe its just when you install a custom ROM or something, I don't know.
OK guys,
Lineage 16 is installed, everything went smoothly, however when I connect the USB, the phone just shows as 'SM-G900F' on my W10 PC and cannot be expanded, basically no Phone and SD Card folders.
I can see them in the phone no problem, but once I connect it, I am not prompted with the usual message on what I want to do, like file transfer etc. and on the left menu appears only the model of the phone.
I had no issues when I flashed the original firmware, so it must be related to Lineage.
I also installed the Android USB drivers, but no go.
Changing the USB Preferences, to PTP or File Transfer only allows me to see the phone, no SD.
I also tried a new SD, no success.
I am stuck again... Jeez it takes days to get this stuff to work, you do one step ahead and another back
Ideas?
Alex
Anyone?
Shall I ask the question in the Lineage section?
'Set warranty :kernel' means you are running a custom kernel. Any modified boot.IMG can cause this message. It doesn't mean you need to use stock room. This appears even in stock rom with magisk or SuperSU.

loose imei, not detect sim card

Hello,
I'm french, excuse my langage...
I have 2 note 8, an N950F (single sim) and an N950FD (double sim). I specify immediately that the 2 have already worked and that I have only one sim (one being for me and the other as a gift for my wife lol)
- On the N950F, install via odin 3.14 of twrp 33.1.2, then hadesrom 12 then magisk 20.4 => everything is ok
- Purchase of the N950FD, hassle with installing twrp because I had to put my sim in it to change the time and have access to the usb options, in short, it works, then same as hades and magisk => everything is ok
I have well customized the N950FD, I made a full save (all partitions) with twrp and I said to myself I do a full install on the N950F ...
At the time I did not watch out ...
I calmly use the N950FD and then, I still hack the N950F, I install other custom roms to see, lineage 17, etc etc and all that I do it without sim, with the dex dock connected in ethernet, in me saying that when I'm done, my wife will just put her sim there ...
And then something bothers me, it's a small prohibition logo at the top left instead of the network. I tell myself that this is normal because I did not put a sim, so I take that of my N950FD and there bah it is not recognized ...
I do not panic, I tell myself that I made a false manipulation, I wipe, I reinstall hadesrom and same concern, I take another custom rom and same concern ... I redo a full install with twrp and same concern .. .
I take a stock rom (the last, then the first, always in 4 files either with the csc or with the home-csc), I flash with odin 3.14 and 3.13 and always the same problems, the rom remains blocked on the screen samsung, the first with "samsung note 8 powered by android". So I tried the last rom with 3.14 and 3.13 then the first and still the same problem, it does not start (I waited 5 minutes roughly) despite the wipes ...
Since I no longer have twrp, I reflash, it works, I tell myself that the custom was still installed and I reflash via twrp hades (I tried the stock rom file but it didn't work) and again same concern, the sim is not recognized ...
I try the flash of the hades kernel, it works but the sim is still not recognized ...
When I go to the phone * # 06 # I do not have imei, but a black screen, when I go to parameter / connection / sim card manager => black screen with the message "com-android-phone does not respond" ...
I looked a little on the net, but nothing conclusive, I specify that all my files come from XDA but that given my English I prefer to try to find an answer in French ...
I do not have a backup of the N950F it would have been too simple, I tried another sim than mine but ditto it is not recognized and before making a tablet I would like to try everything to recover it. ..
It would seem that flashing a stock rom solves the problem ... But as said above, my phone remains stuck on the samsung logo despite the wipes
I still tried other things like just flashing parts of a stock rom but I still have the same problem ...
I also tried the flash of a stock with the extra pit and the nand erase and distribution options ... and similar, no start ...
I even reinstalled twrp after a stock, save it, "mix" it with another backup I had (efs and modem from the stock and the rest of the custom) but then again, it doesn't work, such reboots well but still no network access and no recognized sim card ...
Finally, I looked at chimera tool, but no tutorial in French so no way to see how it works or if it will meet my need ... taking an exclusive samsung license on chimera does not cause me any concern IF it allows me to do other things than what I have already tried ...
I also looked at the prog to change the imei because there is nothing left, not even 0, no no, a black page just like when I go to the sim card settings, I have a black page. ..
I also flashed several custom roms from different countries but it didn't work ...
By cons I observed that I had the location for 2 sim, still inactive ...
How to put the note 8 in single sim and recover imei and then the network ???
there, I block ... if you have ideas I am taker, thank you all ...

If you didn't take a backup of your /efs folder which is where all of the phones important information is stored such as your IMEI then you are screwed because you can't flash any other phones EFS FOLDER.. However if you have a backup efs folder, restore it.
the concern is that I do not have a backup of the efs file ...
is it possible to put an efs file of another note 8 n950f and where to find this file on the net?

MrMike has already answered this, you can't share or use any other EFS.
The fact you can flash a custom rom and it will boot tells me you don't have a hardware issue, try flashing stock again as this can sometimes fix the EFS file, it has done for me in the past and a few others users. Although I can't tell you why you get stuck after flashing stock, this is the best way for you to hopefully resolve your issue as you don't have a EFS backup.
Except by flashing a stock, is there a way to restore the n950f to factory condition?
because with odin, if I flash the last stock, it does not start even if I make the wipes and if I try an old stock, odin blocks ...
can the chimera program allow me to find an original n950f?

Not that I am aware of, I am only aware of restoring by flashing stock with Odin or by using Samsung smartswitch.
You can't flash older filmware than what is already on the phone, that is why Odin is blocking that, but when you flash the latest filmware does Odin give you the green pass?
I am not familiar with the Chimera program so can't speak on that.
Yes with odin I have the green pass, but then the note 8 does not start, it remains blocked on the logo, even if I do the wipe ...
I even tried to save right after with twrp and recover the efs but it does not work ...
If I find a broken Note 8 can I recover the efs file by saving it and then putting it on my own?

Thanks for your help, how to start it in stock rom?
I specify that it starts in custom rom ...
the first photo is before the installation of the stock rom with odin, the second is at the end of the installation (odin ok, pass in green), the third is after the restart which has not worked (blocking on samsung note 8)

Could you please explain to us all in here how you're going to fix his /efs folder when he never made a backup of it.. Where are you planning on getting him an /efs folder that held all of his phone's information when he accidentally deleted it?

By root device and download Root Explorer, browse to the efs folder the delete everything EXCEPT the 'FactoryApp' and 'prov_data' folders it should restore IMEI

I gave this a shot but it didn't work for me.

Really desperate for some help guys flashing note 8 stuck in boot mode:

MY skill with Android flashing: 3/10
Phone Problem: Boots to the very first screen with the phone model and then turns off itself, vibrates, and relaunches..... (repeat repeat). It did use to reach the Samsung screen before my (what I thought was) successful FW flash!
Hey, so im having a mare trying to flash some firmware on my friends Note 8 using Odin3 and pretty much guessing at firmware to fix this phone. I downloaded the latest version that seems to be available.
The phone Model number is not known exactly but its a single sim, UK spec (Carrier: 02) so am assuming it is the SM-N950F
Im slowly downloading fw files to try and get this phone to reboot - but no such luck! is there anyone with enough patience to try and help me install the "correct" firmwares?
I tried with my first attempt and it fails in odin with a message: SW Check boot loader 14 binary 13 (or something along those lines - which I tried a search for here in the forums and was something to do with the compatibility of the bl and fw not being correct)
My second attempt was a success through Odin (Cleared and Pass!) but now it only gets to the very first screen and reboot loops straight away without getting to the Samsung screen.... so not really a success my end!
Can anyone help a Android noob?
Not looking to keep any data what so ever Just want a full factory reset.
Phone last worked properly on 23/24th December last year and my friend hasn't bothered with it since when it bricked.

Hey bro I am not a pro either at this but doing this since quite a time now,
Your first attempt failed because you tried to install an older version of android whereas your device had a newer version installed previously....SAMSUCK does not allows you to downgrade your android model...
Your second attempt resulted in a bootloop , I will suggest you to reboot the phone into recovery and format it once, it might work.....

I can get into the boot menu and have tried all options as in:
Wipe cache partition
Wipe data/factory reset
reboot system now
still stuck in boot loop (1st power on screen)

It should boot after flashing that, it could be a hardware problem preventing a successful boot :-( Probably worth trying different filmware though, you could try BTU (UK) or XEU (UK & Ireland)
Bro i will advice you to just get over this stock rom and install some custom rom.
You can install a custom recovery like twrp through odin and then using that recovery install some custom rom made for your device.
All these you might find in your device's xda forum.
Brp i just checked and found that galaxy note 8 has plethora of custom roms available just install the one which you like.
You can see the installation process on youtube.
