I don't want to sound like I completely hate IT departments, but I can NOT stand mine!
I go to me guys and tell them about an issue that I have verified with numerous people, but NOOOOOO, the problem is always with me. Really? My computer freezes because of YOUR update? While I'm busting my ass selling all day, they are in the back bs'n about football and browsing the web.
I can't stand them!
I love how people get soo mad at me when I ask them to restart their machine. Or not to have one hundred excel spreadsheets opened. I have people who will have anything and everything open then get mad cause IE is crashing. Hahaha. The best ever was I had a user that was offsite was really upset that she couldnt use her home networked wireless printer when she was 600 miles away. She kept repeating "It's wireless this is rediculous!!!!! I'm returning it as soon as I get home!!". I mean I could have set it up but come one Im not the at home IT guy.
Hi all.
People notice my phone and keep saying -
"What's that?"
"Who makes it?"
"What does it do?"
"Is it an iPhone"
So I am asking for suggestions, what is the best way and software to show off what these things are, and what they can do?
Thanks,
B
I show off TouchFlo
I show off Touch Flo, Skyfire, TomTom, remote desktop, vnc, the keyboard, the tilt screen, the copy and paste, ect.
turn the screen brightness all the way up. turn the sound all the way up. and scroll through manilla looking for something to do.
LOL !
I get the same damn iPhone question since I have the VZW Touch. First I say it's HTC, then it's WTF is HTC? Then they see my Vista WAD theme, and want to play with everything. The S2P, Opera, Multiplayer Poker, and some are amazed I can open '07 Excel and Word files. Not to mention, after ThrottleLock pops up, they have no idea what to do !
Some people are amazed at it, and we find it somewhat simple. There was a customer I was talking to once, and she was giving me a small order. I write down the order in notes, calculate the prices, then make a phone call. All the while she had no idea it was a phone to begin with.
But nobody knows my secret......GPS tracking with RT, shhhhh!!!!
Gremote, remote desktop to show off the hi res, gyrator.
If you have RemoteTracker, that is an awesome tool to show off.
Teeter is always a winner. If they're a gamer, COD2 in HW accel mode is pretty awesome.
Let's be honest, it's a geek's plaything and some folk just won't get it.
I got my hands on an iPhone for the first time today. It was very nice, and I played with it for a bit. We got it at my work as a test phone. The app support guy asked me if I wanted to take it home for the weekend to play with, as he knows I'm a smartphone nut.
You know what? I couldn't be bothered. For me, iPhone is not the future. I thought, great, a toy for the weekend. Then I thought about what I might play with and just lost interest. I love the way it's pushed the industry forward, don't get me wrong.
I think they're not so great for geeks like me who like to hack around.
Elite rom is nearly out (tonight? hopefully), and the linux guys are making amazing strides with Android. The exciting thing for me having the touch pro as a hobby gadget, is that the potential has nowhere near been reached.
Great thread!!!
LOL
I have the same question almost in any place I go (And my Uni is form 2005)
Nobody seems to know what the hell is that thing?
One day I forgot it in a taxi and the driver said to me: "Hey you forgot your calculator" LOL
I find almost imposible to explain what I have on my hands
Cheers to all

Haha awesome!!!
show it off in the club, and when ever someone needs to use a phone...you have one right here....then they are like "how do i use this?" oh...you go like this *scroll through manilla, and do a quick copy and paste....wait sorry i didnt mean to do that, here - you just do this to make a call
LOL
LMFAO!!!!
Well, here where I live, as soon as you meet people, i dunno, for lunch, you place your phones on top of the table. HTC is new here, but people are still fab about the iPhone and now the Blackberries, but I used "Manila" on my Elfin, and the phone is so small, light and Manila just ROCKS! Bar-None, as I said in a post, not only trendy women, but people who depend on their phones would flip through TouchFlo and see the Home screen, contacts, SMS, Email, weather, and Browser so FAST, SIMPLE and BEAUTFUL.....suddenly.....their phone feels.......like a stale piece of bread? LOL!!!!!!
Paul
*lol* I keep telling people "this is a HTC device I´m using, its not an iPhone, but in some terms better".
Apps to show-off in my oppinion: Browsing with Opera, TomTom, S2U2, S2P, S2V and of course Manilla2D. Nevertheless, since my brother´s got a Diamond I know that the possibilities to show off with my polaris are quite...limited xD
So my suggestion: Just buy Diamond/HD and pack it with G-Sensor apps, games, show Manilla theming and skinning stuff (which the iPhone is not able to do )

I've put a shortcut to a mp3 i made at zedge.net using the voice tool called hello phone
in my start menu. Then using microsoft voice command the coversation goes like this
Me - Start hello phone
Phone - Hello darren, how are you?
Me - I'm fine, now shut up.
Phone - ok, I'm sorry for disturbing you
Gonna try to make a really long sophisticated one soon
I press a couple numbers and press Send. They're amazed by the voices on the other side of the phone.
Jesus, there's like two or three of them a day now. Between all the "Don't download this, I'm just testing" apps and those ****ty $5 apps by Khalid Shaikh the market is rapidly going down the toilet.
Really y'all, stop that. Just sayin.
I can see why they'd publish them. I can't, however, see why they leave them for more than 5 minutes. On my first publish I did exactly that. Tested to make sure that I could do it properly, and that it could download and install properly. Of course, I published my finished app and not a test version... I agree though...
yah i hate it. especially since google's plan is for a user managed market place.
That Khalid Shaikh is getting annoying with his lame apps indeed.
I have to agree with you guys. True, its a user-managed market, but I think users really ought to realize that if they want a good market, they gotta put up good apps! I don't want to be hating on Shaikh, considering he actually knows how to make apps and has the SDK environment all setup and I have absolutely no idea how, just, he really oughta do a quality check.
I can understand as a developer wanting to get your apps on the market asap to have all of your hard work recognized. But yeah, releasing apps before they're at least usable and pretty stable does nothing but hurt your reputation. You only get the "Sort by date" promotion once. I made that mistake on my first app..

So true... And if you waste that opportunity with unfinished work (particularly more than one unfinished work) you can really screw up acceptance of future works... Oh well, i guess that's up to those devs, I just wish I could weed them out of my view.
Right, why dont we just have Market Sections specifically for things like test apps, and fart apps, so we dont hafta sit there and freakin look through an infinite list of fart apps to find anything good? I mean, seriously, there should be some kinda category besides "Apps" and "Games on the main market page that you can lump all those LAME, annoying, USELESS apps into so that serious android users dont hafta filter through fifty fart apps to see decent work by serious devs...we should Just have a category called "Nonsense Apps", and all those apps should be kept separately from the regular apps section so you can browse through frickin fart apps all day long if thats what floats your boat, but if you actually wanna find something USEFUL, all that nosense crap will get filtered out...And honestly, its freakin 2009, people, there are Gays and Lesbians everywhere, openly expressing themselves as such, theres a black man running the white house...and somehow FARTS ARE STILL FUNNY?! I guess i didnt get the memo, cuz if i wanted to laugh at a fart id just fart, considering that the human anatomy is a generator of such sounds...why waste all that effort writing a program that makes fart sounds, when you can jusr rip one whenever, and its WAY funnier than a stupid phone app, cuz ppl can actually smell it...so what is the problem with all these moron devs that come out actin like they didnt know anyone else had put out a fart app? I agree with OP...JUST STOP IT...
Memo to bmfc187. Farts will always br funny. Fart apps, on the other hand, are pretty lame.
No farts were ripped during the creation of this reply.
/Liar
They do have a demo section for random bullcrap like this.

I'm not sayin i cant appreciate a good rip, but why go to all that trouble to digitize a fart sound that your own body already makes naturally, knowing full well that your little sound machine could NEVER reproduce the funk from those Supreme Burritos i had last nite at El Tapatio...
-BMFC
Right on, the G1 speaker doesn't seem to have enough "low-end" sound to do a good rip justice.
I must confess, I did get a kick out of one of the apps that let me put a fart alarm on my phone when anyone moved it. My girlfriend wanted to kill me after I set it and went to the mens room at Outback. Guess she moved it when the waitress brought out my salad, aanf well, many lols were had at her expense.
I sent an email to Jay at Cyrket.com to see if he'd be willing to do anything to allow us to apply filters to the data provided by his site. In the mean time, I set up a Yahoo Pipe for myself that filters out all apps with the words theme, skin, fart, or soundboard.
My "big idea" being an interface to the market which uses allows for very customizable seort and filter settings. Of course the actual market app would be used for purchases/downloads. This would only be a market browser.
It would be nice if we had the option to filter out certain developers (IndiaNIC, LLC and Khalid Sheikh) who are flooding the market with nonsense that obviously isn't selling.
ryan75: My Pipe does that.
The main problem with the Pipe approach though is that it's a work-around and as such is limited. Particularly in the case of sorting... You have to get all of the data first before you can reliably sort it, that can take a really long time with Pipes.
These developers should just provide links to themes, comics and icon packs etc. Test apps should go in the demo section. Finding 50 comics/books/storys/bs or themes or icons a day is friggin annoying. The farts I can deal with because there aren't 50 a day.
I just realized how much I use google to search for inforomation, it makes me think how annoying it would be without having "google it". So, I want to know anyone else loves Google?
Dont really care much about Google to say I couldn't live without it. I used yahoo or AOL before Google, to me its just another search engine, although its the one I always use first. Does my post make sense? I love Android to death.
Google is the best search engines .
Don't wast your time whit bing.
I love Google.
School kid here, Google litterally has saved my grades tons of times.
yeah, google helped alot in book reports, essays almost everything even calculus lol.

Bing Maps completely destroys Google Maps. Can't tell you how often Birds Eye view saves the day. And the new Silverlight version is extremely slick.
Bing search is pretty good but still not as good as Google for computer related queries. I've come to appreciate Bing's homepage, Google has taken simplicity a bit too far with theirs I think.
I view Google and Microsoft similarly. Both have products that I use all the time and others that I don't care for. But at least Google is picking up the ball that MS dropped in competing with Apple.
Bing got cashback
Lets just say that if Google were a man...I would go gay for him.
Google has more cash than most countries and is into every new technology. It is the most progressive for me!
World domination, yeah!!

anyone mansioned google pacman is banned on some internet access accounts in depertment of education &training NSW Australia?
Other than that, Google dominatez!
I used to be a google fanboy.
now, i can barely stand them. They've turned evil.
on that note, if i wanted to use the bing interface, i'd use bing. it's prettier. google and their new search page and their web2.0 internet-based android irk me to no end.
Hello, I recently switched from ios to android, google disadvantage now see that (in my opinion) do not fulfill specific functions, we changed the English but still not correctly answer general types: how's the weather today nearby restaurants etc.. What is your opinion about google now?
I always think that google now is in development, cuz first of all is the voice engine its pretty "mechanical".That's all
You will be told soon comparison threads are not allowed.. Prepare for thread closure..
Let's put it this way:
Siri:
"What's the weather like today?" "Are you sure you want to delete all contacts?" "No! No! No! I didn't ask you to do that!" "Delete Confirmed."

Click to collapse
Google Now:
Open the app
Look at the weather card. (Usually the first thing you see when you go in the app)
Click to collapse
Google now has handy "cards" for you to view wherever you are. Like what restraunts are nearby, Photo locations, Traffic information, ETA to Home/Work etc.
You don't need to ask it anything most of the time, although you can ask simple questions such as "How old is (Insert famous person here)" or "How tall is (Insert Famous Person here)" or "When was (Insert building/landmark here) built?" and it'll often tell you the answer
What I've heard from people is if you live in the US and speak US english, like me, it's by far better than anything else out there. If you don't live here / don't speak US english, it's not that great. I've never tried any other language or country so I can't tell, but for me, Google now is miles ahead of siri. Cortana is actually pretty good though.
Thanks for the opinions guys, one more question, I have to search the motor google.us or have active locations to benefit from all functions of the application? thanks

Google search is normally set to your local one (I.e if you are in the US, you'll be automatically searching with the US one)
You need to have active location (GPS) to get the best benefit from all the function.
It needs to know where you are so it can show those cards with information relevant to your current location but hey, at least you don't have to keep on asking it questions!

Siri feels like an assistant.I cant say the same for google now.Its my personal opinion

To be honest I don't see much of a difference in what they do, besides their names and companies. After all, Google is my favorite search engine and database, and I definitely prefer Google Maps over Apple's, so Google Now does a pretty awesome job for me. Siri/Google Now would not really affect my purchasing decision in any case.
I really like the functions of Google Now. It's more helpful and able to provide information when I need it. However, to enable the full functionality of Google Now means Google Service Framework is running all the time and producing a huge amount of wakelocks... Which means a lot of battery drainage.
So I would say neither one of these meets my expectation...Hope GSF could get better
I think Google Now "understands" your requests better, but maybe it is microphone related... I dont know anybody using any of these services because it affords more time getting what you want.
i prefer google now. looks a lot cleaner and more accurate imo.
Although I have never used an iPhone except for demo kiosks, I hear nothing but terrible things. Can't remember who did it but there was a Youtube video comparing the two when they came out. Siri for some reason kept wanting to talk about horses.

yah i like google now
I don't like any of the Google Apps included Google Now because it's waisting all your RAM memory!
And it stays running in the background.
I have only used S-Voice when i was on stock but i'm now on custom rom and now i'm don't using a siri anymore.
Siri Apps are defenitly better then any other !
I have had the iphone 4s firmware updates and enjoy siri, was an addition more than useless over to the friends. I have now and s-voice s4 is something less mechanical than siri in the sense of the daily use
rivalstorm v.1 with Tamirda's mod
I know this is very unscientific, but whenever I meet someone who uses an iphone, I ask if they use siri. Most don't. Not everyone uses google voice search either, but it seems like more do. Take from that what you will. As for me, I love google's voice search. It has rarely failed me.
I have to admit, Siri is fun. And many people just use it for entertainment purposes.
Google Now is mainly used for help and knowledge. And I use it everyday. Its a great way of doing tasks while you're a bit busy.
Defenitly Siri
