Okay - I searched and have yet to find an answer - if this is a repeat I have missed, I apologize. Here goes.
On my T-Mo N4 5.0.1, I would like to encrypt the device but do not want to be tethered to a password (long story). The PIN mode for screen unlock is what I desire. Without rooting and running a custom ROM, is there anyway to modify the security policy to allow the PIN mode to be used with an encrypted device?
I tried encrypting it after reading somewhere else you can change to PIN once it is done (requires password or fingerprint for initial setup). The understanding was that you would have to input a password on bootup but after that screen unlocks could be done via the PIN. This was not the case and would not let me change after encryption. Decrypted, I have my options back. This is the security policy at play.
I am sure its somehow possible. My Nexus 9 tablet is encrypted (had no choice in the matter - how it came from factory) and allows any unlock method you want, so long as one is used.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance!
Just an update in case it helps anyone understand this better - still could use some help!
Had to do a factory reset on my Nexus 9 tablet thanks to a botched OTA update. It is forced encryption and does NOT force you to set any sort of unlock method. While I agree that is lousy security, it makes me really think this is policy based which leads me to believe it can be changed somewhere on the note 4. Thoughts?
I encrypted my S6A but it forced me to use a password (6char+some numbers) at first I thought this was to unlock it upon restart, but it requires the password whenever I want to unlock it. I factory reset it to see if that would help but it won't let me set just a pin if I enable encryption. Entering the password each time is extremely annoying to say the least.
Has anyone figured out how to enable encryption and use the pin unlock instead of a password? My Xperia tablet allows it so I know it's not a lollipop limitation...
Looks like it's a Samsung limitation. 3 Samsung tablets (Note 8, Tab 4 and Tab S2) require the stupid long 6char+numbers password for encrypted devices.
Ridiculous
Hey guys!
So I got my Mi5 around a week ago, last night I got around to finally unlocking the bootloader and then installing TWRP and rooting the phone.
This morning I noticed that I now have to log into my online banking app manually with a username and password as it no longer asks me for my fingerprint to login.
This is extremely frustrating, is there anyway to fix this so that I am still able to log into certain apps via my fingerprint and not a username / password?
I know there were some warning, however it just mentioned that it would be less safe. Not that the feature would be removed.
Thanks,
Psy
Hi all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 SM-N960F.
I use fingerprint recognition, face recognition and a pin number so hadn't needed my pattern for a while.
My battery ran out. I charged the phone, restarted, it asks for pattern and after a number of failed attempts, have 1 left. Before I try one last pattern and have to do a factory reset (and lose all my family holiday snaps over the last year), is there any way I can get into the phone and recover the data?
There is a dearth of rubbish and click bait on the web. But if anyone can help, I'm told it's XDA. I have a samsung and google account - both linked to phone, remote access, a backed up OS (but not photos), but can't connect - presumably because it has not booted up. Any help appreciated! - & no I haven't enabled any development options....
is it rooted, do you have twrp on it?
i am copying this from other website. you can try this method.
If your phone is connected to a Wi-Fi network and it is linked to your Samsung account then you can unlock your device’s screen remotely from the Find My Mobile website.
Use any computer or mobile device with Internet access, open a web browser and go to http://findmymobile.samsung.com. Click on SIGN IN.
Click on MORE.
Click on UNLOCK MY DEVICE.
Enter your Samsung account password and then click on UNLOCK.
Depending on the network and the state of your device, this process may take a few minutes. You will receive a notification and the screen of your mobile device will be unlock.

>>Thanks - yes I have tried this already, but the phone isn't picked up because (presumably) it is not past boot loader.

>>Hi, no it doesn't. I can put it on, but I understand that you need to have USB debugging activated on the phone (which I do not recall ever doing) to be able to connect and remove pattern file. Happy to hear if that's no the case.

I don't think it would be possible sadly. You have not enabled USB Debugging so you can't flash anything. Also OEM Unlock is turned off. It doesn't work via remote control as the phone is not booted up pass the lock screen at least once. How can you forget your pattern ? Try to remember it or guess blindly, maybe you'll catch the correct one. Also if you do eventually get in again, turn on auto restart once a week. That not only helps to keep performance in top shape but it will ask for the pattern once per week when it auto-restarts so you won't forget it again.

Isn't it you need to enter pin number, not the pattern? Pattern is more secure than a pin?

Hello Team,
I recently changed my lock screen password and forgot it. I was able to unlock my phone so far with my finger print scan.
Yesterday my phone was stuck so I had to reboot it, and now its asking for password after reboot. I remember old password and my finger print should work, however can't bypass this password screen. I do not want to lose ay data.
I checked samsung find my device, dumb me have not registered it.
Please help retrieving data , I don't want to wipe out everything.
