Tasker appears to be changing the volumen even though I disabled it. - Tasker Tips & Tricks

I'm on Nougat 7.1.1 now.
I used to have tasks for turning down volume at home and at the office, and also turn the ringer off in the night so it only vibrates. A couple months ago I started noticing some weird behaviour where the phone went to vibration mode when I left the house which I didn't intend for it to do and which it hadn't done before. But it wasn't too bad, so I carried on. Recently though, I started walking to and from my office and listening to stuff using my bluetooth earphones. I noticed that, after a while, presumably when switching off the 'home' or 'office' profiles, my earphones gave me a loud beep and then the volume would be turned up all the way. Not great for my ears. So I started to think something's wrong with my tasks. I ended up turning off all volume settings in every task, but the behaviour wouldn't change. I figured I might've broken Tasker because I used to restore Tasker data from Titanium backup on every Android version upgrade. I've always been on Cyanogenmod and now on LOS. So I used Tasker's in-built backup mechanism and reinstalled it, restored the backup, but the problem still persists. Now, I'm at a loss.... Do you guys have any idea what might be wrong?

Are you sure this is caused by Tasker?

Edit: I did the test. Thes issue doesn't occur with Tasker disabled.
I'm not 100% sure, but the timing of the behaviour matches up with the usual profile switching timing. I don't know what else I might've set up that changes the volume. I'm going to disable Tasker and make sure it's still happening.

I tested if the issue occurs with Tasker disabled. It doesn't.

Enable Tasker and start disabling profiles one by one until the misbehavior stops.

Yes. Will do.

Ring problem - solved??

OK guys,
I just had my "faulty" Diamond replaced - it wasn't ringing on calls, but all other sounds were OK. This is not the same issue that people have had with SMS notifications etc etc.
Basically only a hard reset cured the issue, but it came back after a few days.
Since using the new one I think I worked out what it could be, and it might be very embarassing.....part of it is to do with the stupid way HTC have implemented the volume behaviour in Touch Flo, and their philosophy of "why press the screen once when you can press it 3 or 4 times"! Dismissing email, missed call and SMS notifications from the Home screen anyone? - need I say more.
Anyway, the problem <I think> stems from the way they changed the volume feature. (and operator error).
In WM6.x native, if you turn the system volume off, then the ringer turns off - if you turn it up the ring stays off - BUT both volumes are seen on one screen. So it's obvious.
In Touch Flo there are 2 separate screens!! System Volume, then an Arrow left to "Ring Volume".
Anyone who has the apparent "no ringing" press the up or down volumne, then make sure you hit the arrow left for "Ring Volume".
My sample size is 1, so this maybe coincidental, but I hadn't realised it worked this way.
For those of you with the problem, please check the "Ring Volume" level and get back to us.
See the pic attached.....
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the 'no sound on calls' problem has been seen to happen when the system volume and ring volume have been at maximum. Indeed this has also been seen to happen on WM6.x native, where as you say, both levels are visible.
I was meaning the incoming calls do not ring at all- the sound when speaking still works.
Is that what you meant?
If yes then that's a pain - I was hoping it could be the end of my troubles!
This may or may not be relevant, but, I never change the volume (system or ringer - they're both set to max) and indeed I've even remapped the volume hardware buttons to other functions but on occasion I find that whilst my system volume remains on max my ringer volume has gone right down to zero.
It certainly wasn't me that did it - at least not directly through any positive action related to changing the volume anyway.
I cannot seem to reproduce this problem, and so for now it seems to occur randomly (of course I'm sure there is a definite trigger - I just haven't found it yet!).
Mathew
that is odd - whatever is causing it then, it might be ringer volume related...
This Has Solved The Problem On My Touch Diamond...will Probably Post In A Couple Of Days To Indicate Whether The Problem Has Returned...if You Don't Hear From Me In This Thread Again Then The Problem Can Been Seen As Solved For Good.

no sound.
hi. just got my new diamond. it powered up alright, installed all the necessary apps and sounded great. I also adjusted the system and the ringer volumes to around 80% of max.
but if i use the phone after around 15 minutes, there is not sound. no audio player sound, either songs or incoming calls or sms or anything. its just dead silent.
wanted to go to the shop to have it replaced, but before that, i wonder if anyone can help me and tell if this problem can be solved myself.
i guess i will wait for a reply before going for a replacement.

Bad news mate. But that problem is slightly different to the topic - it's only the ring volume which doesn't work for me and certain other people.
All other sounds work just fine.
Phone not ringing, vibrating or flashing for incoming calls
I am also having the same problem with my Diamond. The phone is not ringing/lighting up/vibrating or anything when someone is calling me. I have tried calling my phone myself to just watch it remain black. I REALLY hope someone somewhere finds a solution to this problem, or I may just throw it against the wall
I also had the same problem with my Telus CDMA diamond - sound worked fine, then after a random amount of time after power off, there would be no sound - no ring, no mp3 audio, nothing. Sound would be restored after soft reset, but would again disappear sometime after being powered down. I tried everything to fix - reflashed various roms, SRS WOW driver, everything - no fix to be found. The only way I could prevent the sound from disappearing was to use the "not suspend power" option of S2U2 - sound was maintained but it sucked battery like crazy. So, I returned the phone for exchange - they exchanged no problem. I haven't had a problem since with the new phone.
Phone not ringing for incoming calls
I've had this problem twice in the last couple of days. After testing a few scenarios I have been able to reproduce this problem on my TD. Like other users, the problem that I was experiencing was that my TD would not ring upon an incoming call. It would flash the screen and show caller ID, but no sound. Ring volume and system volumes were both at max.
I have been using an alarm application, G-Alarm v0.6.4. This app was installed to the device memory. After setting a test alarm and cancelling it, I then called my TD and the problem was reproduced. Are any other TD owners with this bug also using G-Alarm? (I also found that the G-Alarm was not stopping by pressing "Stop", so thought it was a bit buggy.)
I could restore the phone ringer by opening Settings -> Sounds & Notifications -> Notifications. I found that my original ring tone for an incomming call had changed by itself. When I restored the ringer to my chosen ringtone, problem solved.
I uninstalled G-Alarm and so far so good.
I'm interested to see if any others with this problem are using G-Alarm or any other 3rd party alarm app.
Regards,
Paul
Paul, I also seemed to have run into the same issue with g-alarm. I say seem because although I did a hard reset the issue has persisted. The issue seems to frequently crop up when I switch sound profiles.
I've the same problem. No Sound after some call or others sounds play. When this happens and if I receive a call the others not listen my voice. This means that when audio disappear, speaker and also microphone not work, like the system can't comunicate with them. The volume control not resolve my problem. I've done HR and with nothing installed in my phone the problem come back again after few minutes. So it's not a problem of third part bad software, but htc orginal software or hardware problem.
Anyone solve it o have idea?
Thanks!
Perfect solution sickboy555 - I feel a right twit!!!!
no sound
So, for me, the Diamond is a dead brick - just good to look at, with no sound after 15 or even 10 minutes of standby.
can anyone just tell me if this type of a problem may be related to 1. Hardware, or 2. software.
I've given it to the shop from where i bought it from, but they keep on returning me the phone after a week to 10 days, telling that it's been fixed now. But the problem still persists, and I keep on giving them the brick back again and again.
Frustrated, i wonder if I can fix it myself, or just go to the shop, and throw it against the wall and count the pieces !!!!!!!!

glad to have helped!
I'm not sure if there is a real hardware issue as well. Are the others with the "same" problem sure they followed the guidance????
Hi Sickboy555,
yes I checked your advice but this wasn't the cause of the problem for me. As posted earlier, for me it was caused by my G-Alarm application. It's been over a month now since uninstalling G-Alarm and the problem hasn't returned since.
you are the man,thank you.
Thanks. My incoming ring tone problem has been solved.
er...sorry..wat is the solution again?? i dun really get it...

Sound issue?

Hi Folks,
Happy HD7 user here, have had it a few weeks and really love it vs my previous phones.
However i have noticed that at varying periods of time that the sound seems to just stop working ? I noticed this most recently with alarms not going off, id often wake to the phone vibrating but no sound ? It wasnt set to vibrate either. When going to unlock the phone (Company enforced policy) the normal button taps also do not sound.
When making a call while the phone is in this state there is no sound what so ever on either end of the phone..
Soft resetting cures, but has anyone else had the same problem.
Phone is running o2 latest firmware (phone is unlocked and on the Vodafone Ireland Network).
I've had the sound stop working for music before, but I didn't try making a phone call or have an alarm go off while it wasn't working, so I can't say if all those things were affected. I assume they would be though.
Soft reset does fix it (until it does happen again, seems to be really random)
I came here looking to see if anyone was having this issue, to determine if it was just my hardware, or if it is software related.
I have noticed that at varying periods of time that the sound seems to just stop working; ie. vibrating but no sound on alarms, and the normal button taps not producing sound when going to unlock the phone.
However, when making a call while the phone is in this state, I can hear the called party fine, but they can not hear me at all.
A soft reboot solves these issues for me as well.
I am hoping that the Jan. update corrects this issue, because I do enjoy the HD7 very much.
had the same problem, it was caused when i set the alarm and the alarm was setting off but could not wake me, so the alarm was like ringing for hours, then when i woke up, i see in my screen the snooze and dismiss buttons. so i press dismiss.. but the all sounds from phone were gone...(rings, notfications, music).. i had to softreset the phone to get it working again.
I think that the problem is that the phone take a deep sleep if you push it off. Perhaps MS reduce the cpu power or clock speed in Standby-Mode to save battery life.
I dont know it shure, but the phone responds same as my old blackstone with installed
nueClockControl which allows you to change the clock speed.
Regards
gc
I'm having the sound issue but soft reset didn't help. Any other thing that I can try to fix it?

[Q] Sound profile problem - rings in silent and vibrate mode

Phone is stock. What happens is, regardless of the sound profile, if I get a phone call my phone will ring at max volume. Right as the call comes in the phone auto-switches to a normal profile and then switches back to whatever it should be after the call is completed. Text messages and notifications all work correctly with the sound profile settings.
I've tried changing the profile through a widget, the volume rocker, and through setting>sound. Nothing works. Anyone else having this problem or have any ideas?
bump
Interesting timing, I just observed this with my One today at work. The phone was in silent mode and started ringing, I took it out and ignored the call, when I looked at the profile it showed silent mode. I did not notice if it showed silent mode even as it was ringing.
I am using Llama for location based profiles but it showed the correct location and profile through that time period, so I don't think it was responsible.
So I figured it out, at least for my case. I had to wipe the cache partition. I didn't realize you could do this in a stock phone, but I guess you learn something new everyday.
I attached the .docx file that HTC support gave me explaining how to do it for anyone else that has this problem.

[Q] Ringer Volume Resetting, why?

I feel like a noob asking this question, but I can't figure out why this is happening.
I like to have my phone on vibrate all the time, especially in the car. Since I'm used to it always being on vibrate, I never check to make sure it's muted when I go into a meeting, work, or car. I just got my XT1095 last night and I have been surprised several times now by loud notifications.
The phone is going back to a 3/4 volume setting without me changing it. What is changing this for me? It has happened after disconnecting from the car BT, or after connecting to it (or maybe it's enabled after car mode is detected?).
I'm seeing a bug where Moto Voice is setting the ringer volume to 60% (if it is set below that) every time it is activated.
Report it to Moto so that it gets fixed.

That might be it! This last time I noticed the issue Voice was talking to me and asking me to enable Ok Google commands while the screen was locked.
Same issue here, and I have also tracked it down to a Moto Voice Bug. It's set on vibrate, then I get in the car and use Voice, and then when I get to work it's set to 3/4 volume. It has to be the Voice bug.
I have been able to reproduce it. Use Voice, and the ringer goes back up. Last time for me it went up to 1/4 instead of the usual 3/4, but it's definitely Voice that is causing it.
I find this go be absolutely and incredibly annoying! I've reported it to Motorola, but am really pissed off that Moto Voice changes/overrides the volume settings that were in place. And that's adding to the fact that lollipop's volume controls are messed up on 5.0, anyway. Sorry for venting, but it's bothering me so very much.
Anyone else bothered by this:
I beg you to report it, since change is more likely to happen this way. Thank you.

You should probably bump the following thread in moto's forums too.

Tasker & BT Media Volume Automation

Has anyone got any experience with automating sound settings with Tasker on the Huawei P10?
I have a task that should turn off the WiFi & turn up the BT volume when connected to my car's WiFi. My WiFi gets turned off as expected when I connect, but the volume stays at 0.
This task worked flawlessly with my Sony Xperia I upgraded from.
I have experience with tasker service getting killed every few days on my p10. I have no idea why.

Some actually! I've used Tasker for several years on the P10, P9, HTC M9, M8 M7 etc etc and have similar profiles running to turn off WiFi, read out SMS's etc when I connect to my car.
Firstly is Phone Audio & Media Audio both turned on in the settings of the paired device (car) in Bluetooth settings?
What volume are you trying to change, phone call, media or both? (In Tasker... BT Voice Volume or Media Volume?)
I've just tested my P10 in Tasker, while connected to my car, and both BT Voice and Media change volume up and down with no issues.

OK, how about this bit then (shouldn't make any difference if you've allowed Tasker to ignore optimisations, but you never know!)...
Settings, Apps, Tasker, Battery, Power Intensive prompt & Close after screen locked both off
While I've not specifically noticed Tasker being killed, I've noticed the P10 (& my P9 before it) would sometimes randomly close things anyway, nevermind what ignore options were ticked! But they did usually restart of their own accord soon after. May just be a "glitch" with EMUI/Huawei phones!

Yep, both are already off. And it's the same for dropbox. Photos just won't upload anymore after few days.
Looks like huawei really is overly enthusiastic in closing background apps

My task is set to turn the media volume to max (15) then adjust the BT volume to max (again, 15) before turning the phones WiFi off. I've also tried to use the app Volume Profile, which has a Tasker plugin. I don't know if I need to set a delay? My old phone worked without one, but I remember I had timing issues in the past with other phones.

I had similar problems, they seemed to go away over time. I remember reading in reviews that Huawei uses machine learning to optimise app response and battery, so I don't know if that's influenced things improving over time. I remember my phone mysteriously revoking notification access I granted apps.

Don't think you need a delay, mine certainly doesn't, just done a test again changing both at the same time without a delay...no problems
This is the task I just tested....
Tester (50)

A2: Media Volume [ Level:8 Display: On Sound: Off ]
Try it on yours. The "Display" bit just shows it's worked. You don't actually need it, but it's a good "bug check" as would be the Sound option, to make sure the task is actually working. The 50 is just the number of my task.

Yes you may be right, certainly Huawei does seem to mess about with permissions etc that other android phones don't!
