[Radio] Unnecessary fallback to Edge from LTE. Help needed. - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hey Guys,
I really hope you can help me here.
Some days ago I changed my contract from O2 Germany to Vodafone (which is supposed to have a good LTE coverage here). Anyhow my mobile reverts from 4G/3G most times to EDGE and I don't understand the reasons.
I tried via the hidden code menu to force wcdma preferred or LTE only and I have stable LTE connection. It isn't very fast (2-6Mbps) but at least way faster than edge.
Now the question. Why does my mobile revert to edge? And can I save the setting for wcdma preferred for reboots. Right now as soon as I reboot the mobile will again connect to edge.
I really hope someone of you's got an answer.
Baseband is: MPSS.TH.2.0.c1.9-00102-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.88834.1.89286.1
Thx

Whilst i'm in the UK and not Germany, since the unified builds (e.g works on the 3 & 3T), i have noticed this too. 4G is super fast, like 100mbit down in some areas but 99% of the time it will drop to 3G (my network doesnt support 2G). If i use a copy of LineageOS, i'm totally fine and have 4G in 99% of places.

Kaiser keeps switching from 3G to Edge

A friend of mine just purchased the Kaiser to be used on the at&t network. He lives in a 3G area in the USA and for some reason, his phone will not hold the 3G connection. It wants to switch to Edge. Is there a manual setting to stop this from happening or a new utility to enable/disable certain connection. Is this normal for 3G to do this. Any information I can pass on would be greatful.
Thanks
I think it's an indication that 2G is stronger than 3G in your area. My Kaiser always hold 3G connection all the time where I live. You can "manually" force 3G. Here is one the many ways to do it: on Windows Start menu, go to "Setting" then "Phone" (on the "Personal" tab), click "Band" tab, then use "WCDMA" for network type selection (default is "Auto")
Thanks for the help. I'll pass it on.
While the Kaiser is my first ppc type phone and I cannot claim to be expert I do think that this is a normal reaction of the phone to what networks are available.
I live in San Jose Ca. and must, perchance, move up and down the peninsula in the normal course of work and life.
I see my Kaiser switching from Edge to 3G to unnamed all up and down the peninsula. It is best for 3G in the cities and worse up in the hills -as one might expect. I also get the best 3G connections in the evenings and night vs. the daytime when, I assume, more 3G users are taking up bandwidth.
It is unfortunate that where I live is an Edge (during the daytime) area though I am paying for the 3G data plan.
3G issues with the TyTnII
Hello all:
I post on the AT&T HTC forumn and had this thread sent to me by another poster there.
I also have a TyTnII newly aquired from MobilePlanet on Weds. I am having the same issues with 3G. It briefly flashed the G icon on boot up then switches to Edge with all 5 bars. I've tried the manual mode fix, no luck. The wcdma gets no signal and the gsm goes back up to 5 bars same as auto.
Then theres the inability to register my serial # on HTC's EU site. Says SN is invalid... MP has had several reports of EU devices doing this.
I'm in the US, NorthEast NJ area. And in the middle of a known 3G area.
Bill
Can anyone help Bill out? How many of you CAN use 3G on the USA at&t network without a problem? He's trying to see if it's a setting issue or a phone issue. I'm not in a 3G area so I can't help him here.
Thanks

I get a 3g signal when I go into Philly (I live about 45 minutes outside the city) It holds it just fine as well. Is it possible you just have weak 3g coverage where you are? I actually shut off the 3g on my phone as I have no 3g coverage at work or at home and the 3g connection discharges the battery in a hury.
I'm on AT&T as well.
Oh - BTW - I also can't register my phone with the eClub either. I sent an Email to the HTC Webmaster but have not had any reply in 3 days. I'm not too confident in HTC's support.

[Q] m110s EDGE problem

hi guys
there is a problem need u help
I brought a m110s I9k's Kroean version
It said that it support to work in edge network
but whatever any roms ,there is only G!
i want to konw why?!!!!
and how to slove it
THX!
that sounds like an area reception problem
G (GPRS) and 2G (EDGE) they both run on the international quad band 850/900/1900/2100
I'm a little confused, you have 3g working but you'd rather have edge? 3g is the faster network and possibly the stronger signal, so your phone would prefer to connect to that network. If you are using an older firmware you can play around with the secret codes found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=721111&highlight=Secret+codes
best code for you to check out would probably be *#*#4636#*#* however Samsung removed or broke these codes 1 or 2 firmware updates ago. Also, you can look into the wireless and network settings and go to the bottom and turn off 3g. Please note that the phone and/or some carriers might not allow data over 2g, I know my carrier doesn't and this phone is designed to be optimized for SKT.
Please let me know if I'm confused about your question and i'll try to rephrase If I can better help you.

thanks 4 u answer,but my operator——China Mobile is support another 3G,TD-SCDMA,so i can‘t use wcdma。and CM is supply edge,so i don’t why,maybe samsung block it。
I was confused because I thought you were connected to "G" (I thought you saw a "G" on your notification bar). Have you tried to disable "3G", this might be able to force you onto an edge network, I don't think it'll work, but it's worth a try if the code I mentioned doesn't work.
Go to settings > wireless & network > 3G data call settings > select "no"

Try these codes to see if you can update the band

Doesn't china use different gsm networks?
I am having problems with internet all together. I have the Anycall Korean Samsung Galaxy S shw-m110s but I live in the United States and use AT&T but cannot seem to get the internet to work. I entered the correct APN settings but cannot even get an EDGE signal. Anyone have any ideas?
Can any one help to transplant baseband from i9000 to m110s?
Because EDGE is so important for China Mobile. It is hard to afford WCDMA. Thanks!

Calling to UK o2 customers.....

Hi everyone,
I am trying to find out if anyone in the UK on o2 is able to see "3G" on there notifcation bar at the top?
I have been trying to find out for a while and have recently changed my sim card to a 3G as i have had mine for ages and was still an old 2g one!!!!!!
Since swapping I still only see G all the time while downloading data. Does it actually change to 3G when its available?
My current settings are:
o2 mobile Web Post Pay
APN mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: o2web
Password: password (i think!)
APN Type: Internet
Any help would be great
Regards Jim
Well when I'm inside I get HSPDA, I some times see the 3G logo, not often, but HSDPA is better anyway, when I have a decent signal or it drops to edge, but outside I always get it, It could be due to lack of a decent signal?
Make sure in Mobile Network Settings you have Network mode set to GSM/CDMA (Auto Mode)
My Internet settings are the same as yours
So you actually see a 3G logo then.........humm
I checked my network settings and mine are on auto as well.
Im wondering if there something wrong with my phone????
The only reason I say this is because my m8 is on 3 network and when were next to each other he can pick up a 3G signal and I cant. I find it hard to beileve 3 has better network in my area. Specially I always have a 5 bar signal.
Cheers for replying

Have you checked your signal on the o2 post code checker? I wouldnt bash three's signal thinking o2 is better! as 3 network share nearly all 3g sites with tmobile now and have really good coverage so dont use that as a president.
Also best to try your sim in a unlocked/o2 phone in an area that you know gets signal like the o2 shop. Also i didnt think any network needed new sims for 3g apart from orange with the strange usim!
I see both H and 3G.
Yeah i needed a new sim. Got mine about 4 years ago and was told i had an old 2G sim. I didnt know they updated sim cards !!!!!
Ill check the postcode checker on the website and will probably go to the o2 near me. Hopefully Ill pick it near there.
Im not overly bothered about having it where i am, just want to know it works ok.
Regards Jim

I can't really help you but as far as I know LTE is already unlocked and working on all international S4 Actives. Mine certainly worked perfectly out of the box - although I turned it off promptly because I have ****ty 4G coverage where I live so it was nothing but a battery drain for me.
Are you sure you have a 4G sim card, and that you are in an area where 4G has coverage?
If you go in under settings > connections > more networks > mobile networks > network mode don't you have the LTE option at the top?

Im not 100% but i got the textmessage from my provider, so i recon they only send it to people who are able to use the 4G.
Yes, i am in a 4g coverage area
i dont have the LTE option at the top no. i have:
- wcdma/gsm
- only wcdma
- only gsm

Well then I really have no idea - the only thing I can think of is that you might need to replace your sim card if your provider didn't already do so in advance of the 4G rollout. Hopefully someone with more information might step in here, but the international version is LTE capable out of the box. If you don't hear anything else I'd suggest to try and contact vodafone and get a clear answer from them first.
If you check the mobile networks in your area and don't see anything that supports LTE, you may just live in an area that doesn't have it yet (people get 4G and LTE somewhat mixed up - 4G is the overall identifier for a whole class of technologies with "4th generation cellular networks" basically while LTE is technically one of those technologies so, it should rightfully be classified as 4G in most respects.
Having said that, the only way I got my GS4A to function in LTE mode - meaning it actually shows LTE in the notification bar under the 4 with a small G and LTE underneath it - was to go into the service menu (*#*#4636#*#*) and change the preferred network type to either LTE only or LTE/GSM auto (PRL). Once I did that the radio would reset and connect and then it would be in proper LTE mode. Doing a speedtest with the Speedtest.net app shows LTE as the connection whereas with my standard setting which is WCDMA Preferred (T-Mobile AWS) it'll just show as "4G."
I've had no luck making alterations in the Settings/Mobile Networks section, I have to change it in the service menu to get LTE functional. I don't use it because here in Vegas where I live (specifically my home location) the LTE mode gets me about 1-2 bars of signal (about 8-12Mbps) whereas the WCDMA Preferred setting pulls in 5 bars rock solid and 25-35Mbps.
Can't do screenshots or I'd add them, I'm running the pre-release MI2 ROM presently and that aspect is borked.

i guess my wcdma is sufficient then.. didnt experience speedboost tho..

That would be because you're on the i537 from ATT, rather than the i9295 that this discussion is about. I checked google and vodafone holland does indeed use LTE on the right bands in its brand new rollout, so it isn't that - most likely it's his sim that needs replacing or it's just not activated on his account yet.

[Q] Force phone to stick to low signal LTE rather than switching to 3g?

Hey guys
So I looked around the forum for an answer to this question and i found similar topics but not exactly what I was looking for. I have the HTC one with sprint and the only issue I have with it is how it handles its preferred networks. If have 2 bars of LTE but 4-5 bars of 3g its going to stay on 3g and not switch to LTE. Is there anyway to change how it gives each signal preference. Currently it will wait till there is no 3g signal before it switches to 2g but LTE is not giving the same preference. I know it's just this phone because I had the iphone 5 before this and when I was on campus at my university it would stick to the 1 bar of LTE i had rather than switching to 3g. If I force the phone in LTE only mode then it will pick the LTE signal but then I can't call and text obviously so it's not very useful.
There are two things that the iphone 5 did which I miss but otherwise love this phone. One is getting LTE in places that has low coverage and the other is roaming on verizon network on 3g. The iphone would always roam on 3g but the htc one only roams on 2g.
Is there a way to change those things with this phone? Thanks in advance!

Have you tried changing the preferred in the *#*#4636*#*# > Phone Information?
Hi thanks for the response. Yes I have messed around with that. That's how I got the LTE only option. It isn't a matter of not finding LTE signal. It's just the way the phone handles what is perferred. The phone first sees if there is a strong LTE signal and it catches that but the moment it goes to about 3 bars or less it will switch to 3g. I want it to continue sticking with LTE until the signal is gone completely like it does with 3g -> 2g.

I see. And who do I ask for that? Or how can I build one? Sorry I am a bit of a rookie in this. I don't want to mess around with it too much but can learn. I thought there might already be some sort of hack or a modded PRL.
any new insight on this by anyone? thanks
I have lte at my work if I do lte only but it will switch to 3g when i turn everything else one because 3g signal is stronger than lte. id rather use lte however but still have my texting and calling capabilities.

I know it's not an optimal solution, but have you considered using Google Voice integration in the meantime? With LTE only mode, so long as you're signed into an app of choice (Google Voice/Hangouts should be able to handle your calls and texts if you tweak at it a bit), you should have the desired service until you can get some dev help.
