Recommendations? - Samsung Galaxy Gear

I just got a Gear and kinda wanna **** around with it.
I saw a few ROMs.. null, tizenmod 3.0, some cyanogen previews and such around.
Do any of them work better than others? I don't personally care if it's Android-based or if it's Tizen based.

Null is what I personally use, I have tried tizenmod and gotten it to boot, but it won't connect to gear manager.

Is it possible to Root and Install Cyanogen MOD for the GTi8190L S3 mini?

I bought a S3 mini recently however the samsung UI is horrible its so sluggish and laggy you won't believe it you can't even open a web browser properly without some kind of lag.
My friend then told me you cannot install any custom roms like cyanogen MOD for my S3 mini because there is a L word at the end of it.
L meaning latin America.
Man I didn't know they had different versions of this thing all the S3 mini looks the same. And I got a good deal on it so I went ahead and bought it.
Its true its a little small at 4 inches but after a while I got used to it. I like it a lot and the shape and heavy feel of it is quite nice.
But wish I could get rid of this bloatware and samsung rom and put in a light and fast custom ROM.
NOT TRUE!
You can flash TWRP or CWM Recovery in Odin and then flash CM, PAC or AOKP even in i8190L.
Those rom's doesn't change your baseband, and as long you're using a i8190L baseband you'll be fine
(You posted in wrong section. It should have been Q&A)

WOW so you are saying I am not screwed? the L don't mean anything and I can actually use all these S3 Mini Roms on my L version? WTF
I taught you needed some sort of Ported ROM for the L version?
Not only CyanogenMod, but also PAC ROM, Ilussion ROM, AOKP ROM.
The ones that didn't work form me were Paranoid Android by Oliver, PAC MAN ROM and CM10.1 by Oliver.
Download the best roms from maclaw's webpage.

Install this S3 Mini Toolkit and install the recoverys and root and everything you need, after, download any rom that you desire, and just flash it through the recovery.

WOW thanks a lot man
One thing the thread said you need a specific model number for the roms meaning cyanogem mod designed for L versions else it will brick
Its best I do like everyone else and leave the stock rom and don't interfere with this phone. Cause if something happens I will be wishing I didn't interfere with it.
Doubt any rom can solve android lag anyways. Thats just how android is, only windows phone and ios are lag free.

Bahahahaha that's the stupidest thing I ever heard man.
Just flash AOKP from maclaw.pl and get it over with.
ok I did it
I installed this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400402
was this a good fast rom?
anything else faster?
I noticed its really fast. And the uploader says it works on L version
I can't believe the massive difference it has had. so glad I am rid of this nasty slow ass samsung original rom
I'm using AOKP from maclaw.pl, it's faster and more customizable.
I'm using cyanogenmod 10.1 from maclaw.pl. Its a very great rom without bugs.

WOW thanks a log holy crap this is even faster than the other one
So happy about this website and this new rom
I was gonna sell my S3 mini because I was disgusted with performance you had to wait 2 and a half seconds to return to home screen when you press the home button figured its cause of the garbage Nova Thor CPU in these phones
Then I installed these roms and wow it flies like blazing fast hooooly moly
I still miss my i9100 S2 though. Cause this Mini is much slower in 3D games than the S2. But say what. Main thing is this rom has solved most of my problems.
I kinda miss the shortcut for the brightness adjustment slider in the drop down from samsung rom.
I was afraid of flashing at first but you guys has held my hand every baby step of the way.
I believe this is all I need now, no need for me to put anything else. Vanilla android is pretty much what I wanted.
So happy that nasty 3 second lag delay in the samsung rom is gone like everything you did took an additional 1 to 3 seconds to respond

Glad to hear that
Just so you know, the delay when you press the home button is caused by S voice, you can disable it and its faster
theres also can option in aokp that you can slide across the status bar to set the brightness
How to install ROM 5.1.1

[Q] Just got an unlocked Samsung s4 Active!

Phone is great and already rooted it. I wonder, should i install a custom ROM or keep the stock one? What are the benefits of installing a custom ROM on the active? In the past i always installed customs but for the Active i'm not sure i need it at the moment. Thoughts?\\

There are countless articles on the benefits of Custom vs Stock ROMS. I personally love CM10.2 that I currently have installed on mine. I'm waiting for CM11 but that looks a while off. If you leave it stock, though, you'll easily be able to update to 4.4 soon. I personally HATE the touchwiz interface, but I'm jealous of some of Wanam Xposed's capabilities. Other than that, you've said you've already used custom ROMs before...

I've installed nova, and themer and about me. all amazing interfaces. also found a workaround to enable wifi tether. what else can i do on a custom rom on the S4 Active that's worth reverting from the stock? I'm just trying to see if there's anything major i'm missing right now.
Also, i've noticed there's very little dev action on here compared to the S4. Is that because not a lot of users have it? or because S4 roms can be used on the active?

There's less action here because the Active has less users. S4 Roms are similar to the Active and can be, in a way, "ported". They are NOT interchangeable though.
Nova and Themer don't require a Custom ROM such as CM. CyanogenMod is the most common Custom ROM so I'm going to focus on that. There are other good ones for this device such as SlimBeam and Smasher X.
Here is an article with the Top 10 Reasons To Install CyanogenMod.
While the above article is a good article, it doesn't go into enough depth about it's Customisations and Usability tweaks which are (along with speed) the main reasons that CM is my choice ROM at the moment. For example, if you find that the auto-brightness is sometimes a bit too high or a bit too low while using your Android device, you can tweak this to your own specific perfection. There's hundreds of little tweaks like this built into CM that essentially make using TouchWiz afterwards somewhat frustrating.
In saying that, a lot of the things you can do on a Custom ROM can be achieved on the stock ROM through things such as XPosed framework with modules such as Wanam Kit or other third party apps such as All In One Gestures, or tasks created in Tasker.
I will also be doing a guide on how to get the AOSP Android 4.4 look on your stock TouchWiz Device.

[Q] Galaxy Gear custom OS or original OS?

I've just bought a galaxy gear 1 and noticed that its rooted with a custom OS on it,
My question is it work having the custom SO on it or stick to he original? i intend just using it as a extension of my phone to be honest as the screen is a little to small for anything else to be fair.

it depends, do you really don't plan on routing it and installing android apps on it ? do you prefer to have lots of apps developped specially for this device or do you prefer to have access to the playstore ?
there is also the battery concern, most people say that tizen has a better battery life, but it's not always true as I managed to have better battery performance (more than 3 days on a full charge) with android on it.
So yes, I think most people will tell you what I'll say.
If you want to be able to do anything with your watch and install on the go android apps on it, stick with stock os and maybe upgrabe to null_'s rom.
If you want to stay up to date, have a better support from samsung and maybe have a better battery life jump to tizen
oh and on tizen you get the ability to play music via bluetooth lol
EDIT: my bad, seems you already are on Null_'s rom, don't pay attention to what I say about upgrading to null_ since you obviously are... or are you under tizen ? you may want to start to tell us that
OK well Nul seams to be on it right now but i dont know how to get past the pairing screen as i am having trouble with it on (i have the samsung gear software on my htc one m8, to be honest i am looking for it be a extension of the phone, notices, quick replys, camera, maybe some play stuff like games and utilities, and maybe play music from it.
i don't mind a slight reduction in battery life over proformace as the charge time is a hour and since its a li-on battery part charging is ok as well
i guess since im using a HTC and not a samsung access to the play store is prefered.
so with this info what would you recommend

Cyanogen/AOSP is pure android without all the unnecessary graphics, designs and bloat from Samsung.
Minimal design = stronger processor strength.
Plus, pure stock Android is just better.

I see. I guess this is similar to Nexus phone.? Stock android?
Then stock stuff miss alot of things like no notifcations with running count, like on your voice messages or txt. Then we need to install launcher. Then we back to the same thing?
Why buy a Note device if you want stock boring Android? Never understood that.
IMHO - CyanogenMod is just plain boring. I understood the need for it way back in the G1 days. Maybe now in place of vanilla Android but as a rom on a Note 4? Hells no.

Because Note devices have the top of the line and updated processors. In other words, fastest/strongest processors on the market at the time of release.
You will never see the full capacity of this processor until you're on Pure Android.
And that's what I love. This beastly processor on bare Android.
Perfection.

I agree with you. IMO (<- take note of that before anyone gets butt hurt.) I think "some" people don't realize how much TW has improved. It's pretty awesome on the Note 4 and for those who like TW can definitely tell how far it has come.
CM is boring and IMO it takes away from the Notes DNA of what makes a Note a Note. If I just cared about having the best piece of hardware with a big screen, I'd still want something pleasing to look at than a black and white movie.
Like I've said earlier....
...and it's nice to be able to drive a McLaren P1 and do the 1/4 mile in 9 seconds as oppose to driving a gutted Honda Civic fully modded with no interior w/ a welded roll cage and helment running 9's in the 1/4. Chicks dig luxury, performance and comfort..."
IMO for anyone wanting CM, they should just the Nexus 6 or an iphone LOL. The fact remains that the new TW is very efficient and there are enough customizations you can do with wanam/xpose to be able to enjoy all the benefits of CM or not, depending on your style and preference. I am confident to give CM a run for its money on AnTuTu along with other benchmarks, because the truth is, with TW already running 50K+ on stock kernel, anything above this wouldn't really be noticeable if at all. Heck even anything below that wouldn't really make a difference in the real world with normal usage. Therefore, although all this doesn't really matter, I think it'll be fun to explore the close race between TW and CM. I'm game for it....bring it on. There won't be a big enough gap to even make CM justifiable IMO. Plus, the girl will want to ride in my car, not the gutted honda civic. Be a gentleman, and treat her like a lady. LOL j/k.
At the end of the day, it's your phone and you can do whatever the heck your heart desires. :highfive:
Bottom line, just be happy to know that you own the best darn device available and enjoy!

I really want to try that Ron but I need Unlimited tethering so I don't think
That rom supports it
the great thing about Cyanogen for our phone will be that will open the doors for all sorts of AOSP roms; Cyanogen mod is a very stripped down version of AOSP, but there are fantastic AOSP roms out there, (SlimRom, ParaNoidAndroid,AOKP) are a few that come to mind, and, they come with mods and fixes that bring ALOT of the stuff you get on the stock TouchWiz roms, just with different software; and, regardless of what anyone says, NO touchwiz rom will be as light, swift, slick and fast as an AOSP rom.
I too would be curious to see how this phone would scream with an AOSP rom, and I'm sure it wont be long till a few of them start showing up; but, usually Cyanogen Mod will be the first one that gets ported for a newly released phone..

WiFi Tether Router, from the playstore works flawlessly.
I use it daily.
FireKatv3 is insane...
I've mentioned in another post where I would much rather use a 3rd party tethering app over a baked in one any day. More setting options....therefore, with me even if a ROM had it baked in, I wouldn't be using it anyway.

Yes it'll be screaming fast, no denying that. But unlike before where there was a huge gap between asop roms vs stock tw....from my crazy smooth experience so far with the newly refined TW (thanks to FireKatv3), that gap has closed a lot.
It's nice to finally be able to go fast and in luxury without sacrificing luxury for performance like before.
Most people buy the note for the note experience to enjoy the luxury that it offers while being equipped with a v12 monster.
IMO, Why buy a Bentley just to strip it of its luxury? Why not just downgrade and buy a Nexus 6? Answer? Because even in this scenerio the N4 is still better. Fair enough.
A stripped down Bently (asop) is obviously going to be faster than the one (stock) still having its hand stitched leather seats that does weigh a ton. But, thanks to a highly refined ROM like FireKatv3, that v12 beast is tuned to provide more power to balance out the power to weight ratio, while still being naturally aspirated. That's impressive.
All credit to Mega (the dev) of FireKatv3, but I'm pretty darn happy about my experience so far running on stock kernel and hitting 50k+. Now regardless of any opinions on benchmarks and real world experience, the fact remains that my real world experience is more than enough to justify my 50k+ bench score.
I've yet to see any other ROM do that.
So I'll see yall asop'ers at the drag strip and give you a run for the money. It'll be good fun. [emoji106]

ROMs for Galaxy K Zoom?

I was looking to get the Nexus 5 but I lost my camera the other day and I like taking pictures.
So I remembered about the Galaxy Zoom and I see there is a new version, The Galaxy K Zoom.
Is there custom ROMs for this? Only thing that is holding me back...
(BTW, why doesnt it have have its own section?)
nope. and never will
Why will that be?
too few developers on it, to little interest in device from consumers
we are just a bunch of enthusiasts needing such a camera phone
the broad folk is buying all that ultra slim hyper fast highend stuff
Well, if you want ROMs to start appearing, you might want to deodex the stock rom of the device. After that happens ROMs are bound to appear
Who needs custom roms?
There's absolutely no need for custom roms imo. I just rooted it, installed the Exposed framework and installed gravitybox. All your favorite customisations are right there and there's no need to flash anything
I know, but it seems like he wanted ROMs, so I gave him a way
