[Nougat] App Twin - any application in Settings Menu - ROOT

There are a lot of guides with ADB and without Root.
For example:

In HOME are displayed Icons with the little number 2, and in Settings Menu there is nothing.
But I don't want this...
I want the Toggle in Settings --> App Twin
How to have this?
In system/emui/oversea/xml there is hw_clone_app_list.xml

IMPORTANT:
Clear DATA of Settings to apply!
(Settings --> Apps --> Settings --> Storage --> Clear Data)

Not working for all apps... i was trying to twin WordPress app, it appeared in the setting/apptwin but the toggle button didn't work...

Hi Millo, hi all,
I am considering to buy a Huwaei P20 and I am extremely interested in the App Twin funcionality you were discussing here. The main interesting app for me to duplicate is just Whatsapp, so I actually don't need to follow the previous procedure to create additional "twin apps".
My doubt is about the choice between buying single sim or dual sim version of the P20, considering that I currently have two phones with two sim cards and the second one is used ONLY for having a second whatsapp, i.e. for making/receiving calls I use only my primary phone where SIM 1 is inserted.
My target would be to have a dual sim P20 where I can put my two sim cards, if there is a real benefit, otherwise I go for the P20 single sim version where I simply add Whatsapp 2 through App Twin functionality.
So, let’s assume two cases:
1) I buy SINGLE sim version of P20
When I duplicate the whatsapp version via App Twin creating whatsapp 2, I then login using the whatsapp code received in SIM 2 that can be inserted in secondary phone, different from P20 single sim.
In this case, will both Whatsapp 1 and Whatsapp 2 (the duplicated one) use data of SIM 1? I guess yes, as there are no other SIM in the primary phone….
What can I do if I want to TEMPORARILY mute whatsapp 2 (not just some contacts but ALL whatsapp 2)? If I switch off the only sim inserted (SIM 1) obviously I disable everything, including Whatsapp 1, right? Is there an alternative?
2) I buy DUAL sim version of P20
In this case I put SIM 2 in the second slot of P20 and when I duplicate the whatsapp version creating whatsapp 2 I just need to insert the code received in P20.
Question:
- will both Whatsapp 1 and Whatsapp 2 use data of SIM 1? If that is the case, it’s the same situation of having a single sim P20.
- will Whatsapp 1 use data of SIM 1 and Whatsapp 2 use data of SIM 2? If that is the case, if I disable SIM 2 from the phone menu I easily reach my target of TEMPORARILY muting whatsapp 2 when I prefer, right?
Sorry for having poor experience on dual sim phone and thanks in advance for sharing your suggestions.

Bugs i found.

Good Morning.
I bought this phone 3 days ago from amazon, i noticed some bugs i want to share. Maybe i'm just a noob but i can't find a solution so i ask for your check.
1. It's impossible to disable WhatsApp notification. Everyone can read msgs' previews even with the phone locked. I didn't test notification from other apps. Just disabled sound and lock screen preview but it still show it.
2. can't turn off touch-disable function. It's impossible to use the phone inside arm-bands. It seems they forgot the otpion in the Smart Assistance menu.
3. FM radio has not the RDS function.
I'm sorry i can't add attachment with system infos but i'm not allowed to do it cause forum policies about new users.

@muse80 i woild recommend you get rid of emui. it got replaced after just 20 hours on my honor 9 lite. fixes all your problems and many more

HI, for notifications I still can't figure out how to set WhatsApp notification only with flashing led, without sounds...
And in the settings I haven't the option to set the touch-disable function... Could you tell me where you found it please?.

Notifications - Do try it Yourself, remember that You have to manage it inside Whatsapp itself as well.
Touch-disable is in smart assistance at the bottom od the screen.

regarding the touch-disable function, this is the smart assistance menu... i can't find it.
Also searching "touch" word in the menu gives no relevant results.

That's the problem with different phone versions.
I do own an Indian/Chinese version 3GB/16GB.
Model LLD-AL10. CUSTC675D3
I do have PRIVATE SPACE, APP TWIN , DOUBLE TAP TO WAKE, touch-disable function. etc
Sadly I do not have an NFC which was one of the reasons I bough't this phone.

Huawei messaging app

Hi does anyone have huawei messaging APK?
I preferred that to Google sms app.

No, not really.
If you really want the Huawei sms client, someone has to extract it for you from an older handset. I don't believe the app is released on Google Play.
I've searched apkmirror, but I can't find any.

i searched for it but couldn't find it as when i used phone clone to port my messages across it said it had done them, but there was no messaging app, so not sure where stored as not in the google android messages app - luckily i have sms backup+ to backup text messages

Nope only Google Messaging, I prefer Textra anyway so use that instead.

Tried it get same error message.
Glad I'm not the only one who prefers Huawei messaging sap.
Prehaps need to root phone.
Don't know why Huawei didn't give the option to install either.

I've not tried chompsms in years. I think it's the intrusive ads which puts me off and eat great fan of the ui.
I'll revisit it see if it had improved much.

i don't have that option switched on, but it's under notifications, but remember notifications on the P20 Pro is hit and miss....
update: thought i hadn't had the option on, but i got the pop-up notifcation with the options to do quick reply, etc

Chinese version of p20 pro is using stock Huawei message app instead of Google... Maybe someone can find a way to find it and install it

I agree with you. Huawei messaging app is far better than the Google one.
So I extracted the Huawei messaging app from the P20 Lite model and sent it via bluetooth to my P20 pro but the phone doesn't let me install it.
It doesnt have to do with unknown sources. I think that the phone is programmed to block this app.
The must have had an agreement with google to use their messaging app instead.
It doesn't make sense that the P20 Lite model has the official one and the P20 Pro model doesn't.

Yeah, I used the Huawei Messaging app too on my P10, and when I moved on the Mate 20 Pro I was really disappointed to see that they replaced it with that ugly Google Messages app...
If there is a way to get rid of the Google app and install the Huawei one instead, please tell us how !

For some time now I've been looking for a smartphone that has a call Recording function that records incoming and outgoing calls without downloading any third-party app . Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The funniest thing is. There are ZERO regulations in India with regards to that. It's in fact promoted, to prevent personal/professional abuse. And still Xiaomi and OnePlus have moved to the crazily Orwellian Google dialer.

You're right, reviews shows that the CE 5g comes with a Google dialer too=hopefully not in every region)

Hey! I got the phone and yeah, it does come with the google dialer,m personally i like the google dialer over others but oneplus dialer was GREAT. Why would they do that?
Also it does have the call recording here in India. I think there is a little alert that tells other person that the call is being recorded but other than that it works great.

I am using oneplus stock phone dialer app , you can also use recording function install oneplus stock phone app and disable the google dialer .. Using from past 15 days working good ... I am only using oneplus dialer.
Root not needed install it like simple apk.

All Samsung phones have call recording built-in since last 2-3 years incl S8/9/10/20/21 and their variants and M or A series of last 2-3 years at least incl M31 etc.
Before that I had been using some apps I think on S6 and such but it was frequently a headache with issues like low volume of other person voice etc.
Now it works perfectly

I am just using phone app it is working fine and i am using google contacts and google msgs ... You can also search on youtube for same lots of people are suggesting it.

In the following thread they explain two ways to have the OnePlus phone app. The first is without root (you will also need the jtools application and make the call recording work through a fastboot command) and the second with magisk and a rooted terminal. Both work on Nord CE 5G (I have tried both methods)

I have second whatsapp for work purpose. Apparently it did not detect any contacts that I have in my phone. How do I fix this? (pic 1)
And is it possible if I click "Message [phone number]" , I can choose which whatsapp I would like to use? (pic 2) Like xiaomi, can choose which dual apps to open.

Hi, I am using WhatsApp Business as a second instance of WhatsApp. Contact sync is working fine. I did not try cloning WA for that reason. Maybe you can try the business version as well. Works for me.
EDIT: As for your second question, both WA and WA for Business appear in the contacts section, so you can decide which one to use. Also, they have different icons so it is easier to distinguish.
