I'm using the default Asus wall charger but my cable is breaking and going weird.
Are there any decent and cheap replacements on amazon/whatever available?
The few I've managed to find all have comments on how slow it made their Nexus 7 charge and they didn't recommend it
What should I be looking for to find a cable with decent charging rate?
The OEM HTC micro USB cables have worked great for my Nexus 7. I'm getting ready to order several more from online.
Sent from my DNA... S-Off like a baws
Authentic Logitech and Samsung usb cables work good.
Ditto for stock/OEM micro-usb cables from HTC, the ones that I owned have a sticker/label on the cable and the # DICMUSBT and Model DC1130 - OEM from Motorola from the pre-Android era worked just as good for me, YMMV.
Online vendors on eB*y such as eForcity dot com (NOT an endorsement, but has been buying from them for 10+ years) should net you quality items at a fair & competitive product and usually get them delivered w/ free shipping in 5 to 8 days, coast to coast.
Monoprice 24awg usb cables are the best I have found, when coupled with a quality ac adaper (or car charger).
Just bought a Nexus 5x off Swappa and it didn't come with the original LG charger, just a USB C to A cable. Are there any 3rd party charging blocks and cables that work well and provide rapid charging for the 5x? I've looked at a lot on Amazon and Ebay and there don't seem to be any that work as well.
There's this from SONEic....
Also, can anyone tell me if you'll get faster charging (like Type C to Type C) if you use a USB 3.0 to Type C cable, or does it matter?
Thanks,
Jank.
This CHOETECH power supply works well: link
You need a type-C to type-C cable to take advantage of the full speeds. I use this one: link
Check out this sheet for chargers, for cables and accessories.

Also Google"Benson Leung". He's put a lot of time into testing a lot of products and can probably save you a lot of headaches. There's a lot of really questionable cables and chargers out there for USB type-c so you want to be careful. It's not like the old micro USB days where anything worked. Bad cables can burn your phone, charger or worse
@adobeman - appreciate the reply. I have seen that spreadsheet but noticed nothing had a review date for this year, 2016. I had hoped something more current that was a sure winner would have been released by now. Maybe not, maybe it's just the SONEic and Choetec so far. There are a ton of the LG OEM cables/chargers on eBay but they all ship from China so are questionable at best, don't know if they're knockoffs or real. Oh well. The problem with the Google cable on the play store is that it's a single piece, the cable isn't removable.
Guess I'll give one of these other two options a shot and go from there. Thanks again!

I have tested LG OEM cable/charge on Nexus 5X, the charger support Quick Charge, it works well with device but it didn't charge as quickly as stock Nexus charger. I remember that it took me about ~1.8 hours to charge from 20% to 100% with LG OEM charger. LG OEM Charger output is 5V/1.8A, 9V/1.8A while stock one is 5V/3A.
If you want to take full advantage of Nexus 5X fast charge, you should choose charger that can output 5V/3A current. You can get more information in this article.

@SuperBoUDS - thanks. I went with this option this morning: SONEic USB Type C rapid charger & this Anker USB C to USB 3.0 for another cable. They should be here Friday and I'll review and confirm how well they work. CUrrently, I only have a legacy USB 2.0 to Type C cable that came with my used phone. It only charges up to about 1400 mA when the batter is really low.
FYI, since the spreadsheet is outdated as of 2016 the best (albeit disorganized) source for USB-C cables/charger/accessories that are compliant is probably benson leungs amazon profile feed:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/cdp/member-reviews/A25GROL6KJV3QG/
if you don't want to go with choetech or tronsmart, you can find oem LG chargers and cables on eBay for $15-$20
I have three choetech USB C wall chargers. I've had inconsistent performance with them -- at times the phone does not register it as a rapid charger, and so far one has stopped working completely. The USB cables are from Anker and I haven't faced any problems with them.
You can't go wrong buying an OEM or Google made charger.
I use this one while traveling. Benson Leung approved. It works great and also allows to charge another USB A device at same time. https://www.amazon.com/Charger-GMYLE-Adapter-Macbook-Chromebook/dp/B01193T77I

After using the SONEic USB C to C charger I purchased above, I can say that I've rarely, if ever, seen it charge faster than 2.15 mA. That with the battery fairly low so I would think it should be charging faster. It does come up as rapidly charging though. It works well enough, just was hoping for more.

I can confirm that the Soneic didn't go above 2A using Ampere app . I tried the Choetech and it went upto 2.5 A once.
Both say charging rapidly. I'll be returning the Soneic
I've seen varying performances with all chargers, none of them seem to sustain the charging rate even if the phone is <10%
Not sure if it's the same behavior with the OEM charger
How about this one? Is good enough for 5x ,

A little confused about the USB Type C cable confusion, at least in my head
A OnePlus 3T should/can't use another Type C cable (reputable: Google or Anker) or is it the opposite, any other phone should not use the Type C from OnePlus. I have used them both ways but don't want any phone damage.
If I get the OP3T, I was thinking about getting the external charger. I had one before. It is Ok. Just OK. Could you tell me if it is as good as a high speed Anker or the one I was gonna get, the RavPower?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XC1W9H6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And the same for the question above. I believe I read in a review, another phone can use the OP3T Battery Pack just fine, but how about the OnePlus use the RavPower? I imagine if I can deal with a few more ounces, the RavPower 10000mah is the better choice
Thanks A Lot
Eric
From what I understand, there are two things at issue here, the OnePlus specific USB-C cable and the fast charging technology. So let me step back a bit and clarify.
One, last year the Google engineer Benson Leung was on the quest to test all the USB-C cable and point out that OnePlus default USB-C cable doesn't follow the standard and could harm your devices. [The Verge, Google Plus]
Second, OnePlus fast charging technology, eg: Dash Charge does not follow USB standard, and to be fair neither are other fast charging technology like QuickCharge from Qualcomm. Thus the OnePlus dafault USB-C cable has designed specifically for their Dash Charge technology. In fact, their Dash Charge technology won't work unless it use their specific charger and cable(technically it's their, it's licensed and other could make them too, who knows if we may have more of this tech accessories in the future from well known brand like Anker) The OnePlus have issue the statement in the recent AMA OnePlus 3T edition here regarding Dash Charge. That said, I would advise all OP3/3T buyer to read the recent AMA summery on the XDA article, or full AMA on reddit.
So, in short, keep the OP charger and OP cable stay attach, and buy a good USB-C cable for everything else.
I'll buy some C cables. My go to make is aukey great quality.

Sorry I has a brain fart I meant anker :silly:
Hmm. I used my 1+ Type C cable in my car to charge +3t.
Chargers
Maybe i'm oversimplifying but Dash charge or Quick charge or whatever fancy names seems to be just a fat 4 amp charger. (Regular ones are 2 amps, i.e. for Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets.)
P.S. There is a warning in Safety Information not to charge for more than 12 hours. That's kinda different. I don't see that with other devices (or never noticed).
I think one plus should implement Sony's charging optimisation reduces full charge to 80% and if left charging to long it reduces the current to just keep it level.
something to consider: the cable has type C on one end but it doesn't support Usb 3.1. the phone is Usb 2.0. According to Wikipedia the reason for a type C connector on a Usb 2 cable is primarily for power which is supported up to 5 amps. Dash charge uses 4 amps. I figured all this out when my computer wasn't seeing the storage drive on the phone while connected to a Usb3. 1 port.

I know there was a big issue with some of these and the Note 7 where the cables had issues with the amps or something and I-Orange cables were recommended, I want to pick up some more of them now for the Note 8 and apparently I-Orange has had some quality control issues or something happened where they are changing their name and I am seeing allot of customers giving them bad reviews now.
So Who has the best (preferred) USB 3.0 to USB C charging cables?

I-Orange is now Veckle and you can't go wrong with Anker Powerline Cables. I bought a couple Veckle cables on special and they seem to work fine.
as mentioned in another accessories thread...

i exclusively use these.

I've heard the QC for the Anker cables are pretty bad. Going to try CHOETECH this round.
I've stuck with Anker as their quality has seemed to remain high and these USB 3.0 and 3.1 type A to C cables are no exception.
To be fair though, the phone fast charges just fine with an old Blackberry usb 2.0 cable and micro A to C adapter as well. I am guessing you'd need a pretty awful cable to fail.
The stock charging cable is pretty short and I am looking for a longer cable. Here are my requirements:
1.5 mtrs +
Reversible Connector
Fast charging capable
Honor 8 Pro compatible
Can anyone recommend me a good cable meeting above requirements? I could not find any official Huawei made type c cables online.
Thank you.

Don't go by the words on the site. It supports both and I am using it for 9V-AMPs quick charge. It is of very good quality than MI. Flipkart too ships all over india.
My general understanding and experience, there is not much difference in cable for 9V-2AMPS and 5V-2AMPS, as long as copper on the wire is good, it should work for both.
i use no name MYR 10 ( usd 2.5 ? ) cable. bought 4 so far. highly recommended.
tested show fast charging. and top amp getting 3080mAh during charge. definetely supercharged!
here the cable looks like
1.5M and thicker durable than stock
https://photos.app.goo.gl/Mzspjf6KemeK0Yp13
i am using the honor usb type-c cable. not sure if it's 1m or 1.5m though. working good so far. in fact, i have two of it.
Try this Amkette PVC 1.5m Long Type C to USB A Extra Tough Cable For All Smartphones (Grey) it supports fast charge and is 1.5 meters flat long cable which supports fast charge. Tired and tested on my Honor 8 pro and works like a boss. I got it for Rs.350 under lighting deal normally it would cost Rs.400.
I found this one on Amazon IN. Ordered one today.
