WIFI signal very poor. Drops out if not in 2m range. - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I've read a lot of WiFi issues here on the forums and net but have yet to find a solution. My phone has had its WiFi range slowly reduce over time to the point where I can't go 2 meters away from the router or else it would just drop out. The problem started happening a few months back where the signal got weaker and weaker as the days went on. I was not too sure what was going on and flashed Kit Kat on it but it did not solve the issue. Went back to Marshmallow and still happening. I've tried adding a WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini to "/system/etc/wifi" and "/system/etc/firmware/wlan" to no avail. I have also tried using legacy DHCP client in developer options. I had heard on a Sony forum that this might be hardware related and required a new motherboard. But I still don't know if it is the actual issue. If I can't find a software solution I was thinking that I can buy another Z3 Compact where the screen is broken but the actual mobo is still intact and working and replace it into my current phone.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

probably u droped ur phone from hand and did some damage to it...or problem from motherboard. go to a service

Milestone Wi-fi/3G connects but not send data

Hello there,
As a newcomer, I found out these foruns filled up with great information and guys willing to help, so came here to ask for some help ....I am both excited and dissapointed with my brand new Milestone. Bought the handset about 5 days ago, which came with Android 2.0. Then updated it straight away to version 2.1 via "Motorola Software Update". So far so good ...here´s the problem I am facing :
While connected to wi-fi or 3g(issue is easier to notice due to 3G icon at the task bar, which points out in those small arrows data that is being sent/received) phone stops to receive data out of the blue. All connectios are cut off(it also happens when the handset is locked up). Some basic trouble shooting i did:
- tested all pcs connected to the same wi-fi network. No issues detected for these
- reset wi-fi router configs. Didn´t work
- tried other wi-fi router. Presented same issue
- swapped another carrier chip to test 3g connection. Presented the same issue
- tested my GSM chip on ther phone. Worked properly
- Reset phone to default settings. This time the connection took longer to drop, like 30 minutes, instead of the usual 10 minutes. After the first drop, it´s started behaving the same way again.
It seems pretty much that there an issue going on here (obvious...hehehe). I am considering the following:
- Might be a software issue. So, right now i am downgrading it back to 2.0 version, check if it works properly and then move to 2.1 hopping to get the issue fixed.
- Use retailer warranty and claim for a new phone =/
Could you guys help me out ??
Thanks in advance and Best Regards !!!
Guys, after downgrading version to 2.0, phone stills presenting the same issue. I think it´s turning into hardware issue =/....does anyone have a clue about it?
Thanks and Best Regards!!!

[Q]N7000 wifi problems after replacing micro usb part

Hi all
I bought a note 1 from friend last week and I ve got problem with it. He was replacing micro usb part because the micro usb was not working so he get it fixed. Phone shop charge him around 50 pounds dont know why, and from that time there is a problem with the phone.
Wifi is only working when you are in the same room where the router is and when you go somewhere else in the house the wifi is discconected from network. I bought new antenna cable because I thought it will help but it didnt. So I dont know now how to fix it, and also the signal is very poor after replace that part.
Can anyone help me please ?
Thanks
Search for "usb port wifi" and you'll find a lot of threads related to this, like:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421145
As far as I remember only the use of original parts from Samsung might solve this.
Okay, Thanks. I contact samsung service center and I am just waiting for them to call me back to give me a quote how much it will cost to fix the problem with signal so in other words replacing usb board for the original one.
But Does anyone had similar problems as me with wifi. I was checking wifi at my girlfriend house and it seems to work perfet I had wifi signal everywhere but when I am at my house the wifi signal is poor and its only work few metres from the router and also sometimes is working slow, but when I go somewhere in the house the wifi is disconnecting with the network.
I heard that Kernel is responsible for the wifi I changed kernel to Philz one and its same problem. I replace the antenna cable but that doesnt help me.
Any ideas what could I do about it ?
Thanks

Wifi, Wifi tethering and Bluetooth is not working

Hi,
I have Xperia ZR C5503 phone about a year. Until 2 months ago I was using Android 4.3. When Lollipop update distributed I upgraded it to 5.0.2.(official)
But sometime after the upgrade my phone started not connecting wifi. It sees the available networks but not connecting them. The signal drops to lowest level about a second while trying to connect and it fails. Also I was using my phone's wifi tethering feature to share my internet to my pc. However wifi tethering is also not working. I enable it but I think it can't work as router. And lastly, I tried to send a file to my phone via bluetooth and it also enables but no other device sees it. I also have low sound on the phone and I can't hear people I am talking to.
So I got frustrated this saturday and downgraded to official 4.4.4. But it was same. Later I unlocked the bootloader and rooted my phone, installed recovery software. With that recovery mode I cleared all caches but the problem still countinued. Lastly I installed an unofficial modified kitkat to my phone but those problems still appears. I don't know why this phone is so problematic for me. I don't know if it is software related or hardware related. Now that my warranty is no longer valid.
Could you give me some ideas to attempt to solve these issues?

Hi,
I had dropped my phone maybe 1 or 2 times but not from high heights.(~ a meter) But that was more than 5 months ago. I am having this issue since last 2 months and I am sure that I didn't drop or harm my phone in any way. However I wash my phone, do you think that could cause that? Just effecting wifi and bluetooth components?
It's not true about dropping the phone make that errors appear, there are many people with same issues, this phone have manufacturing problems, it's not software
My brother have same problem and he never dropped the phone. Just take a look in Sony forums.
Btw, my brother's phone lost Bluetooth connection, NFC, WiFi, Sometimes WiFi works making some pressing in the NFC spot some seconds, but sucks anyway :/

How can i make the wifi stable? it drops in and out sometimes.
Wifi problem
my sony xperia zr has the same wifi problem it says scanning trys to connect the signal drops and again starts scanning..
I stopped the wifi service and restarted my phone and the wifi worked for a day and again the same proble.
Do anyone has a solution for this??
I have been facing the issue of wifi not connecting, since my upgrade to 5.1.1.
My research has led me to believe that the issue may be software based. However I'm not an expert in the field. And i was thinking of downgrading back to an older version of lollipop when the wifi was not dropping.
Can anyone advise on whether this may be a smart move, or a completely useless one?
Also is there a diagnostic protocol I can go through that could help me figure out for sure whether my wifi is busted physically, as some of you suggest here.
Thanks
Josette
I've tried the method "settings global put tether_dun_required 0" but when i reboot my Z5, the value comes back to 1 ... (and of course wifi tethering is not working, going thru USB is ok)
I'm discussing various points here. Check out everyone of this point and get a fair idea from where problem is originating.
1) Go to WiFi Settings > Keep wifi awake during sleep. Here the string value should be "Always"
2) Under stock firmware there are numerous battery optimisation. Some of them kill WiFi so battery can saved. Now disable this features if you want no drops in WiFi.
3) If both of don't work, head over to Xperia ZR General > Search for your specific device FTF. Flash it via flash tool. This should reset all wifi drivers. Don't opt or apply any battery features and use WiFi. If still issue exits then you're in bad luck.
4) Check for other WiFi access points. Check your own router's webpanel and see somewhere broadcasting and multicast signals are ticked. Also check your WiFi is at 100% of it's performance ( 100% transmit power)
5) Hardware issue. Most of the software part is not causing issues so it's safe to say a hardware issue is causing this. Now, long time ago when 5.0 was released for our device I read article regarding ZR. The user had constant WiFi drops. His issue was that his WiFi soldering was poor inside hardware. He soldered it again and his wifi drops were no longer a problem.
People also experience various bluetooth/tethering issue. It's important that people should gain knowledge about firmware flashing techniques so that device would get reset and you yourself could diagnose the problem. 1 in 0.7k unit has software/hardware issue in manufacturing. Sony provides diagnostic app, search in play store ( I'm not sure about this). Hope this answer helps many.
hii.. so did u get any solution for the problem ?
i am facing this problem since one month. i tried rebooting my phone many times. i even tried factory reset. but nothing has worked till know.
if u have any solution please inform me.thanku

How prevalent is the WiFI connectivity problem?

I'm thinking of buying a XZ1 compact, because I love the small size and battery longevity, but I am put off by the fear of not being able to use my WiFi without hassle.
Are disconnects really so prevalent, or are there just a few unlucky souls having connection problems.
In other words,
if there are people with no WiFi problems whatsoever, speak up in this thread and help convince me that a Sony Xperia is a solid choice for a new cellphone...
The wifi problem is not experienced by everyone, and even those that have the problem don't necessarily experience it to the same degree. It may be a problem having to due with specific production runs, and perhaps it is worsened by certain firmware versions and/or updates. It's a good phone in general, and despite occasionally experiencing the Wi-Fi problem I have decided to keep mine, but do buy it with the full warranty so that you can return it if you get a "lemon".
My 2 cents, as they say.
FWIW, I've never noticed any sort of wifi or connectivity problem with mine.

I think it more likely that there is a particular router chipset that the XZ1c doesn't like. It's way too random to be different components in production.
I did read that turning off 'power saving' in the router settings seemed to fix it for some people, again making me think it's related to router rather than phone. Also leaving the router dual band and not locking it to 5ghz only is reported to help.
I haven't done any reasearch on a fix as it's never happened to me.
I have not had any WiFi issues with mine. I was also a bit worried about this before my purchase since I'd been scouring these forums and reading about all the issues. As pseudonym suggests, make sure you will be able to utilize warranty services in the case you have issues. I bought mine from somewhere with a 30 day no questions return policy - in the case mine had these issues, I didn't want the hassle of dealing with Sony as I've heard they are a nightmare to deal with.
Does anyone still encounter this problem after a year and half since the issue has been noticed?
Did any update in the meantime fixed the problem for someone who struggled with it?
I ask as I consider buying the XZ1 Compact.
I read a lot about it and found mentions about two possible problems:
1. Problem with Wi-Fi on channel above 64 (5GHz band). Fix: Change router AP channel to lower. [source (RUS)]
2. Problem with using Wi-Fi with routers equipped with Broadcom's WLAN hardware. Fix: Change router. [missed source]

Redmi 4x trouble with connection and heat

Hello fellow members. I`ve stumbled upon a trouble with my Redmi 4X. I'd like to ask you if someone had similar problems with his Xiaomi. But first thing first...
I`ve dropped my phone few days ago. Guess what - broken screen :crying:. I did some research and decided to repair it on my own. I ordered orginial replacement kit (LCD + digitizer), watched few videos "how to" and I made it. But.
It seems that now I have some problems with network. Signal strength varies between full and the lowest (on 4G), but it feels like it's always the lowest. The internet is so slow, calling and sending messages is pure luck. Sometimes you can send or call, sometimes it's like out of range. I`ve tried setting "only 3g" setting, but it doesn't help. Factory reset didn't help aswell.
Additionally, the phone is overheating. I think it may be associated with the network problem, since phone can't find himself in range of mobile operator.
I called mobile operator and they didn't do anything, everything seems to be as before.
The phone is updated to the most recent OS (Global). I don`t have any necessary or strange apps, nor root or custom rom.
Before the change of LCD everything was running smoothly.
So, did any of you guys had some similar troubles with his/hers xiaomi? Could I broke something during the replacement? I think not, I was extremely careful, assembled everything as it should be but still..
Hope you guys could figure something out, since I`m really out of my mind what is wrong now.
Thanks!

Hi, the poor reception and overheating symptoms are typical of bad antenna or its connection, which were probably damaged during the impact. Without an antenna, RF transmitter has nowhere to dissipate its energy, hence internal overheating.
Please examine the PCB-antenna pairs of contacts on both sides of the connection. Good luck...
:highfive:
Try switching between preferred network 4G/3G/2G and see if you face the same issue.
you can also try using different network carrier sim into your device and your sim cars in other device and see if this issue persist
if issue persist try reconnecting antenna cable.
