Are any of your S8 devices lagging? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions & Answers

I really want to jump back in and do Samsung again, but my S6 Edge lagged so bad that I swore off Samsung because of it. Just like every other Samsung device I've had for more than 6 months - lag, lag, lag and bad battery life adding to the misery.
Now that some of you have gotten acclimated to your S8s, how are they holding up? I'm really hoping that the infamous Samsung lag is a thing of the past.
Thanks all.

No lag here.
My S8 Plus is hands down the smoothest, quickest responding phone I have ever owned (& I've owned just about every high end phone ever made).
I installed Nova Plus launcher today but that was just so I could have more custom options etc. It ran super with the TouchWiz launcher also.
~~John

No lag here. Works fine. Have had the phone a couple months.

Had mine for about a month and a half and no lag at all so far.
This is my first Samsung phone and am pleasantly surprised given Samsung's Touchwiz history. I've always had either Motorolas or HTC-M8, M9 phones but have had numerous Samsung tablets and Touchwiz was horrible and slow which put me off getting a Samsung phone. After hearing Samsung cleaned up and optimized Touchwiz for the S8, I thought I would give it a try and am quite happy.

It's still lags depends what you all got on your phone as for smoothest phone is the pixel xl now the lg g6 don't lag n I got moto z force droid it's ok device

Is this supposed to be English??

The S6 was a terrible phone in my opinion. Not only was the battery weak but it overheated after just a few minutes using Gear VR. I got rid of mine after a couple of months and went back to my S4, a much better phone. My S8 is the best I have owned. As far as lagging, you will not find a phone where there isn't someone complaining about lag. Just check the forums.

Using Unlocked S8+ G955U1 or UA1, and probably smoothest and fastest phone I've had, even though when I had the LG G6,probably as smooth or smoother, but I did return it.

Getting the note now?

I noticed that amazon were having a sale on the note for £375. Do you think there is any point getting it now? I did have the galaxy s3 and one x. I returned the galaxy s3 because I didn't like touchwiz really or the phone in general. I also returned the one x because of quality control issues. I loved the one x but quality control issues put me off :/. So is the note a good buy for that price?
Galaxy note also has touchwiz. But if you dont like it just install a custom launcher like nova or apex.
What else is it you want info about? In my opinion the note is outstanding and is a good buy at almost any price.
Can you elaborate on the One X issues?
I'm thinkng of going the other way. I have the Note, and I'm getting annoyed with the "Super Bug" issue that causes risks with ICS.
I would like to have a so called "Safe" device running ICS like the HTC One X. It seems on paper to be as good or better than the Note, albeit with a slighlty smaller screen.
thanks
Oh there were some issues with quality control. Some models had screen flex some had gaps which gathered dust. Some had screen flickering which has now been solved. Someone has found a wifi issue now, this happens when the device heats up the metal contacts touching the wifi chip to the back of the phone come lose and wifi strength/signal lowers. & yea my sisters gs2 has the eMMC problem, thats the only thing I'm wary about :/.
Hi. I had a One x for 3 weeks. Well 4 of them. Had constant problems with signal. It would lose signal then never regain it unless restarted. The phone was brilliant when working and felt nice in the hand but wasnt willing to keep restarting all the time. Got the Note and am amazed with it. I prefer it to the one x.

Note 4 or iPhone 6+

Hey guys my mind are messing with me, I'm so confused I had android since 2009 and now I'm thinking switching to iPhone 6+ bigger screen, I had all mobiles from HTC to Samsung, I'm afride If I'm going to buy note 4 it will be laggy on touchwiz plus they never update there phone, look at iPhone they update there iPhone 4 and it 4 years old, what do you think is this note 4 gonna be better choice?

Don't get me wrong I am not fan of company, I just buy what deserves to be bought and fits my requirement, but iphone 6+ is not worth the money that's for sure, you might buy it only if you're a big fool and love to show off an expensive sh*t to your friends, better go with Note 4. And what makes you call touchwiz laggy? I had the Note 3 I never saw any touchwiz lag and with new gen of touchwiz it should be butter smooth, tho I can be wrong as I haven't used the new touchwiz just yet but I feel it will be smooth and Samsung does updates their phone, rest your choice.
Stay with Android. Trust me.
If you're thinking about gettibg a iPhone 6 why not consider a nexus 4. ???
Stay with android. After Android L update you will get speed boost.
If they weren't so grossly overpriced (over $1000 with tax for the highest range 6+, I mean come on), I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the new iPhones. For pretty much everyone I know, their lackluster specs are all they really need. But seeing as how you're on XDA, the Note 4 is without question the better option.
I bought the 6+ and note 3 and to be honest it actually sucks. I have had iphones and note series from day 1.
The 6+ feels cheap. the siftware has issues. Not all of them are optimized so it feels like when the ipad was released. Apps looked zoomed in. I will get rid of this and get a note for sure. It just has so much more to offer than the iphone.

I don't care about phones getting dropped from updates after a couple years for a couple reasons. First off old devices on new software (I'm speaking about iOS) run like a bag of ****. My sister is using my old 4 and it runs like garbage. Secondly most people don't keep a phone for more then 2 years anyway so updates become irrelevant.
iPhones are great if you don't mind paying a premium for outdated hardware on a platform that is always behind Android. Apple does provide a fantastic warranty though, I'll give them that. Granted my S3 has never had issues and in my circle iPhones seem to be more problematic (that may not mean anything though).
For me Android is about flexibility and features that are years ahead of anything on an iPhone (for the most part). I'm patiently waiting to replace my aging S3 with a Note 4 because I believe it is the best phone of 2014.
If you get the 6+, all you see is a bigger screen, no more no less, now even with the big screen the quality is still not compare to the note4. The note4 which I have read many reviews, they all stated that it has zero lags (using snapdragon chip instead of Exynos) and the more you're going to use the phone, you will appreciate all the new features of the note4, like wide angle front camera, super smooth Spen, mutitask/multiscreen. Multitask/multiscreen is a big deal for me, imagine, while you on the phone talking, you could search the web, looking for something, circle it open messager, paste and send. Basically you could open multiple apps and flip through them like on your PC. Iphone is way lack of multitasking (none), this is one feature where note 4 is on the top. Now you should ask yourself, with the iphone beside a bigger screen what else can you do???
I thought about the 6+... no I actually stayed up, pre-ordered, but cancelled it. While 6+ is a very nice phone, I am pretty sure the next iOS update will cripple it. Apple is pushing for software optimization while staying 1GB of RAM, I have to say it is enough for now, but higher screen resolution and richer multimedia content will push the it to the limit, doesn't matter how they freeze the app while it is in background, the next time you relaunch it, it will restart the app instead of resuming it, the same problem we saw with earlier Windows Phone. The next version of iOS might even be more useful (common Apple, give us default app option, and lock screen rotation per app), I will stick with Note 4 for this year around.

We can bet on that the L only coming for note 5 and s6 it always like that on Samsung devices
I got the iPhone 6, not the + but I saw it in store today. Although it's a nice phone the note 4 is the better device without a doubt. Just put the hype aside, you'll see that the note is the clear winner.

The Note 4 was my next phone of choice. I have now seen the Plus. Tbh these phones offer a different user experience. One is not necessarily better than the other. There are features on both that are unique. It really is a difficult call. I want to see evidence of both cameras in use. Not available yet. And full features of both. But features versus user experiences are two different things.

Touchwiz on note4 is super smooth, no lags based on all the review I read. The beauty with Android is ton of options/customization, you always can just pick another launcher ) , throw in another feature to convince you - super charge 0-50% in 30min and super power saving mode give you 2 more days with only10% battery capacity left. The list just goes on and on...BTW, I believe Android L will be on note 4 when it released. Based on the history, the S3 which is 2 generation old and it's running on kitkat right now, so I'm sure Android L will be on the note 4.

Touchwiz will lag. It always has, and always will. That's not to say that the note 4 won't be great.. Samsung just adds so many useless features, and makes the ui look trashy.... So it weighs down the interface. I'm ecstatic with what the note 4 brings, and the fact that it releases on my birthday.. Happy birthday to me!! Ha! Also, L may not come to the Note 4. It takes Samsung too long to catch up to Google with firmware.. And then you have carriers that get their grubby hands on it. If it comes? Awesome! Just means it needs more optimization.. Cuz art

I would get G3 ?

Note 4 & Android M

In a couple of days Google will show a preview of Android M ie Android 5.2 which going off rumours is more about memory optimizations & bug fixes & better battery life....we've heard that before!!!! basically what Lollipop should have been from the off.
So the Note 4 as we all know it isn't the greatest smartphone when it comes to getting updates, moreso if your in the UK when we with BTU handsets have to wait until most of the carriers have released updates first before the simfree gets it.
Obviously Android M will be on the Note 5 first at launch, then next the S6 & S6 edge will be next in line to get the update sometime before Christmas.
So what about the Note 4?
Well if the Note 3 is anything to go by then I think we be forgotten well into next year, the Note 3 BTU in the UK still hasn't received Lollipop yet while all of the UK carriers have had it a while now.
I personally think if we see it before the S7 launch next year, then we done well
but I'm not holding my breath tbh.
One of the many reasons why I now regret getting an unlocked Note 4.
I'm waiting for I/O before I make a decision but it's likely I'll be going back to a Nexus or flash Cyanogen.
I'd really like Google to hold the OEMs to account on updates, most are committed to 2 years of updates but if it takes them 12 months to release said update it's likely they'll get away with doing the minimum.
HTC are the only company to commit to a 90 day rollout atm, others should follow suit.

Try Cyanogenmod, if updates really matter to you then you won't regret it, and stock android is amazing

No point in guessing. Get the Nexus 6/Note 5 if you need android M (guessing it'll launch with lollipop and be updated in feb/march to android M). Updating older phones isn't really Samsung's thing, especially when they are busy working on newer handsets.
But the Note 4 isn't a old device it's only just over 6 months old now.
What i think the problem is with the Note series is 2 main reasons.
First they don't sell anywhere near as many as the S series because for alot of people the Note is just to big or to expensive on launch even with contracts.
Secondly because there is more going on within Touchwiz on the Note series ie S pen ect, it takes longer to debug the software before they release it.
The Note 3 is still a powerful & very capable Phablet, but now updates for that are few and far between, I wouldn't be surprised if the Note 3 doesn't get Android M even though it supposed to me more optimized, the likes of the Moto G & Nexus 4 & 5 will get it though.
What it points to if you like Samsung smartphones and want regular updates then don't buy the Note series while they are great on launch they soon forgotten by Samsung while they concentrated on the next big thing in case of the Note 4, the S6 now takes priority & the Note 5 to a certain degree in the Autumn for the first few months at least until the S7 launch next spring.
To me Samsung have a 6 month product cycle with the Note series in regards to regular updates before they put on the back burner somewhat, after that they concentrated more on the S series because even the S4 & S5 got lollipop before the Note 3 & Note 4 did.
Even though I really like my Note 4, I don't think i go down this route again with either the Note 5 or Note 6 depending on when i decide to buy a new phone, it probably be a Nexus next time around.
I am pretty sure that our phone will get android M if it is just a 5.2 release. Samsung may take a while, but eventually they update all their flagships. HTC may be faster but they promise updates for only a couple of smartphones. Even the One Mini 2 wont get lollipop...
I switched from two years with Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 combo to Note 4 a month ago. Even though Nexus 4 has android 5.1.1, it was full of bugs from the start. When you use a nexus you are kinda the beta tester. You get all the updates first, and all the bugs that come with new untested versions. Also Google can and will take months to release a point update to fix big bugs like camera crashes.
As someone already said, if you want nexus experience install Cyanogenmod or similar rom and you wont be far off.
I have BTU's (3 and 4), you just take whatever rom you want from Sammobile and flash with Odin, no need to wait at all. Knox at 0x0, job done. I'm currently on the French Note 4 ROM as it's the newest one out that's official.

I can't agree more with you. I left Samsung when I changed from the Note 2, which was the BEST phone I had ever owned. But it kept getting slower and slower, battery with every update was worse. So I changed to other phones and I really liked the other phones. I came back to the Note 4 thinking "Wow, awesome hardware, and Samsung is doing a great job with updates 2 years later" and I couldn't be more wrong. I'm thinking about just taking the hit and selling my Note 4 and going for the Nexus 6. But I see the Nexus 6 has its own issues. I also thought about the Xperia Z3 as Sony takes pretty good care of their devices in terms of software, and I see that they are also having issues. It seems like Android 5.0.1 is a terrible update for ALL phones. Since the Nexus 6 is on 5.1, and it seems to have fixed most major problems, I'll wait a month or so to see if Samsung fixes anything. If they don't, I'll just send Samsung off and never buy another darn samsung device again!!!

Not sure what a DBT is but my note 4 has had 4 ROMS so far, EE, unbranded X2 and the SFR and I just checked in download mode knox is 0x0.
Plenty of guides out there. As far as I know flashing official ROMs is fine, it's when you have to root to install proper custom firmware the knox trips.

DBT is the German unlocked model haha.
How's your battery life?
And if I might ask, do you have:
-lag when pressing multitasking button?
-lag when reviewing picture recently taken?
My 2 cents is, just because there is a new Android version doesn't make lollipop rubbish and it certainly doesn't make the note 4 a bad phone. If the note 4 got the new android a week after it was launched, the forum would then be full of threads saying how bad battery life was and how buggy the software was and "i'm going back to lollipop".
This happens every time a new Android version comes out, with all phones, without fail.
It is human nature to want what you haven't got.

The battery life isn't too bad - off charger at 6am, an hour's screen time and a few calls today in an area with very poor signal (countryside) and I'm on 77%. Graph says 2 days left at current rates. Hasn't been as good as that previously but I was running Nova launcher with the entire home screen full of widgets. I'm back on a more plain TW home screen with just a couple of widgets.
Edit: I have got rid of the multitask lag via this tip: http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/help/fix-lag-delay-hitting-multitasking-t2939700 and I don't really think there's a noticeable lag from camera to gallery.
every Android phone has some sort of defect or issue nowadays. Apparently theres some battery swelling issue on the N6 and whatnot, among others..Every other vendor gets poor updates, Nexus 9 was slower to update than samsung devices and that device SUCKS (i own one, and its the worst tablet ive ever seen).
Sadly, if you want that feeling that the manufacturer cares about your device and will update it/own issues...Apple is the only route...Ill probably get the 6s or 6plusS this year, AOSP camera apps arent as good as the OEM ones, but using TW roms is cancer.

I suppose in every batch there are some bad batches. I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4, which runs FASTER than my Note 4. This just isn't right. I can multitask like a champ with that tablet, and so much more stable and reliable...
I'm somewhat disappointed with my Sammy phone (Note 4)... But i'll give it some time and see if Sammy can fix some of these issues. If not, then I'm done with Samsung. I had the G3 and it was an awesome phone, too, until Lollipop ruined the experience with lags and battery issues. Why do these OEMs update if they know they're having issues? Samsung MUST know about these issues, and yet, they still release new ROMS that don't fix them.

Personally I think snap camera is better than the TW stock camera, way more options to fine tune.
I doubt that the Note 5 will ship with M, Its the Dev release that has come out only just now... the Note 5 is likely to drop around November so thats 5 months.
Seems a little too quick for Samsung.

Agreed, Android M will be released around the time that the Note 5 will be released, so no way Samsung will have it on their Note 5 already. They need at least 2 months to adapt it.

They aren't adding that many new features so Android M could potentially launch sooner.

Samsung updates very pathetic.

The updates for samsung note series has become worst than ever. They neither commit the updates for a date and even if they commit they never honor it. Never buy a Samsung phone after this.. Small companies are better off.
One of the reasons I switched to nexus 6p.
Yep but samsung is better than most other phone makers LG is terrible
I'm not complaining, MM will eventually released. Till then my note 4 still rocks and there are plenty CM13 roms here.
I really don't understand people moaning about updates. Grab a custumrom if you really want Android 6.0.1 so bad.
Newer firmware isn't always better. My note 4 does a really great job on 5.1.1
My iPad 3 has the latest ios 9.3 beta but it lags like hell which it didn't do when it had ios 7.1.2 on it
Stop crying like a little kid who wants candy but don't get it.
Mate you think it's bad for the note. Should see how bad it for the s5. My Mrs bought hers same time I got the note the 4 and hers is still on 5.0.1 and all her widgets seem to freeze up. She swears she's never buying a Samsung phone again and says she's getting a iphone ?

The note 4 isn't so bad for updates tho imo. Could be worse but I agree Samsung need to sort it out

LG does a great job in updating the last 1.5/2 years. My G3 got MM update around christmas and it rocked. Much more fluid and snappy. And new UX too (LG's TW). Didnt like the screen from the G3. Will see if we get the same MM as the Note 5 got today. Waiting for theme store because i dont like the green samsung uses in TW. Even if there is a MM update tomorrow, it most likely will not reach your device for quite some time. Unfortunately, the Note 4 is starting to show its age (Or Sammy is doing something to make it lag... Alot!), plus the Note 5 never came to Europe which is starting to get MM.
To be honest with the XDA community, Samsung Flagships were always my favorite due to the extra perks like removable battery and sd slot. If they decide to keep the s6 route and also prevent certain regions from buying their phones, then I will have to find an alternatives and there are very few out there without on screen navigation buttons. (My main problem with Nexus devices)
Yes their updates are very pathetic. I am currently on an AOSP rom, my next phone is going to be a Nexus.. never going to buy any Samsung phone again!

The updates for samsung note series has become worst than ever. They neither commit the updates for a date and even if they commit they never honor it. Never buy a Samsung phone after this.. Small companies are better off.

Your post seems to accuse samsung of being worse and smaller companies being better with no facts to back these statements up.
Its very hard and a bad choice for any company to commit to a date of when they will release an update. What are you looking for in an update and there was no agreement that you would receive updates after you purchased the phone. You just expect them to happen when you want.
I have no problems with my note 4, an update is welcome but more of a inconvenience and a risk. With the updates are you referring to Marshmallow?
Why dont you go AOSP or CM
If you wanted timely update you should've gone with a Nexus or an iPhone. I, and probably some people here, bought a Note 4 for its awesome hardware and knowing that update will come late but it will come eventually. Samsung has actually been better on handling update. Rushing things will mess things up, my sister's LG G3 got 5.0 a few weeks after Google released it but it was buggy as f**k and it's dead. I'd rather have Samsung play it safe and iron out the update first then getting a buggy update.

I considered all factory images on my Nexus 5 to be Beta version software. Honestly CM nightlies were better sorted out than the official firmware and were fixed when there was an issue.

even My LG G Watch R receive android 6.0.1 xD.....and only now Note 5 in South Korea receive the Android 6.0.1. Soo maybe at end of April or at April fools day, we receive Android 6.0.1
It's really pathetic how easy is for some people to defend Samsung's software incompetence.
Facts
Note series is a flagship, costs even nowadays a lot of money.
MM is out for quite some time, not even note 5 got it yet.
Custom rom ? Sure, I m in. Of course without the bloat my note4 is another device. But guess what: bye bye warranty. Thanks for this shamesung.
Personally, I bought the note 4 for the second time 1 month ago. New and pristine.
I swear to God I rooted it and kissed the warranty goodbye after 2 hours of wrestling with THE BLOAT. Samsung software engineers should die in shame if they check my note 4 and compare its performance with a stock device.
If this is not a problem for you, it's not my fault you got a perception issue.
but i want revert back to 4.4 :crying:
I'm staying on 4.4.4 for now by choice.
Had L and M on my Nexus. More of a fan of KK.

Overall speed

Would you say that the Moto Z Force is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Moto Z Force exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Thing is wicked fast. Haven't been able to slow it down yet. Purposely left 20+ apps open in background and thing just keeps on chugging away flawlessly when fast-swapping between them.
Running an n64 emulator in the background while playing a psx emulator...no lag, I am very impressed with the speed
Absolutely the fastest device I've owned. It feels better than the 6p.

Very fast and very fluid!
First Android I've ever owned that didn't ever feel laggy. I haven't been able to bog it yet. It's awesome. And the fingerprint reader is miraculously fast. I didn't think I would care about it before I had the phone. Love it now.
Maybe this is par for the current generation, I haven't used any other 2016 phones, but this is quite honestly the first phone I have ever owned that feels finally there from a performance standpoint.
Fast, smooth, responsive.
Fastest phone I have ever used. Came from a nexus 6p and s7 edge. Used a note 7 a little at a store and it felt like crap after using this phone. Hands down the best Android phone to date.

Phone is super fast. I had an HTC 10 for a few days. Returned it as the Moto Z feels much faster in normal use. Fingerprint reader is also much better than the one on the HTC. Being able to turn screen off with it is really convenient. Came from an unlocked Turbo running CFs ROM, very surprised how much faster the Moto Z is. On Antutu Turbo was at 86k, Moto Z is 151k. Battery life is also better on the Moto Z.

Interesting that you say that. I came from a Nexus 6p, and think my Z Force is noticeably faster than my 6p was!
While I'm sure the lack of updates from Lenovo will eventually piss me off and make me switch phones earlier than necessary, for now I'm super happy.

Lenovo did us right on the phone. And they did us right on the mods. And Lenovo dies have good support for the PC part so I'm hoping they won't drop the ball on updates. Microsoft under Google's leadership did drop the ball really hard and I expected so much more. I hope Lenovo gets updates right. They knocked it out of the park on the z for the hardware. Let's see how there software development is.
Nothing beats it. I played minecraft today, hosting over wifi using an 8bitdo nes30 pro controller over bluetooth with all settings maxed and not once was there any lag. Puts a dent in the battery but for the performance I didnt mind.
Battery stats I forgot to include
Coming from a Nexus 6 which in on now while the Z charges. Running Nougat on the 6 and I can say that the Z is just as smooth maybe smoother.
Nougat is gonna take the Z to another level in both speed and overall performance!
I don't miss root at all on the Z; even if it gets root I won't take the plunge there's simply no since in doing so
As fast as any phone I have used. On par with the Note 7 and faster than my LG G5.
Just got this Moto Z Force Droid on Monday (VZW Buy 1 Get 1) and I am very impressed with it! Battery life has gotten me all day moderate usage and the turbo charge is ridiculously fast (without heating up I might add). I have experienced a great/fast UI which is a tad different than Samsung which I was used too...and not laggy!
By far the fastest phone I've used, the UI is extremely fluid. Sometimes it hangs when opening apps but this is rare and I think it may just be the apps themselves not being optimized for N. I haven't done any multitasking tests yet but it keeps apps that aren't even open (Play Store, YouTube) in RAM even when I don't technically have them running.

I wish I could say the same but root is almost essential for me lol. Hopefully unlock codes come out soon because I'd love to get Xposed and V4A on here.
This phone is easily the fastest I've used. No stutters or hangs. Motorola hit it out of the park with this one.
Not much to say, other than it's fast!
Is this phone still worth it ? I'm coming from a s6edge plus
