Hello I have an S6 Edge for Verizon, is there a special process to utilize this on T-Mobile or is it easy as swapping SIM cards? If it is a special process then shoudl I just do what I did with an S7 and change the firmware to be from a SM-G935T to a SM-G935U
I am using Verizon S6 edge on Tmobile now. No problem. Just insert the sim card. It will tell you the sim card is not from Verizon. If you want to update the system, you have to use Verizon Software Upgrade assistant with PC.

I also am using the Verizon S6 Edge on T-Mobile. The problem I have is I can't send MMS (group text or pic messages). Are you not having this issue?
Different carrier software...

I'd like to know this as well!!!
I have 2 S6 edges on Verizon (only one activated) and would be interested to know if using the base software of one carrier on this phone would mess it up.
I'm about to give it a go since I did what many said could not be done... Loading an older software on Nougat....
Thank you for putting the question out here!

Setting up with service provider?
Hello. For those of you who hate noobs in this forum, prepare to cringe a little bit. So I plan on getting the International Model of the Galaxy Note 5, but I have NO IDEA how it works, setting up the sim card and all. I've had some pretty extensive issues with phones and setting it up with my carrier and such. Is it as simple as popping in the SIM card, or do you have to do more than that?
Thanks
What carrier are you on and which model specifically are you looking at?
It's been a while since I get an international phone (I'm with AT&T). The last time I did, all I have to do is insert the sim card. Likewise when I bring my phone out of the U.S., all I have to do is insert a local sim card.

Can I take the SIM card out of my current Note4 and put it into my Note8? My Note4 and SIM card are just about 3 years old. Is there any lost functionality by not getting a new SIM card or should I just go to a Verizon store and get a newer SIM card? Any advantages or disadvantages to either approach (current SIM card versus new SIM card) like an activation fee or anything like that?
Thanks!
The SIM card is a nano compared to the older micro in your awesome Note4, I had one too before the Note8
You can cut the SIM card to size but there is a chance you can cut it incorrectly and have issues, also a cut SIM card is not covered when you bring it into a store.
Your best bet is go get a new nano SIM at your provider.
I cut my SIM and I am not experiencing any issues but I do want to get a new one soon.
Ok, I figured there was likely a change in something over the last 3 years. Do you know if they will charge me the ridiculous activation fee ($35, i think?)?

It has been suggested by all carriers that new SIMs be used because there have been several issues with previously used SIMs and provision functionality...in other words, there is better connections and access to carrier functions when using new SIMs...most are free from your carrier...I tested my s7e SIM and a new SIM and while they are both from my carrier, only the new SIM provisioned WiFi calling correctly and there was a considerable change in data speeds...just an idea though...

Thanks. That makes sense. I understand that the SIM is likely free. But, does anyone think Verizon will charge me the activation fee to put provision my Note8 on my account to replace my current Note4?
Thanks again!
One more question... Do i need the SIM card installed in the phone to actually go through the phone setup? I'm guessing not, but wasn't sure if it had to go through the setup all over again once the SIM finally is installed. I should get the phone today but probably won't get to a Verizon store to get a new SIM until a day or 2 from now. Thanks.

In most cases you shouldn't, and don't require a SIM card to get through the setup wizard, however I'm not sure if the process is different for US carriers so don't take my word for it.
Popping a SIM card in the phone after setup is complete also shouldn't be a problem.

I just did this yesterday went from the Note 4 to the Note 8 and Verizon gave me the sim for free. The only thing is they had to activate it while in the store so bring you Note 8 with you if you have already bought it. They didn't charge me anything however if you are upgrading through them (getting the Note 8 while there) they may.

This is perfect! I just got my Note8 in the mail today. (came a day earlier than expected)! I'll take it with me over to the Verizon store and hopefully I have the same experience as you did. Thanks!
I have a Verizon branded Galaxy S8, and I may plan to move to T-Mobile in the future. I know a lot of folks have either flash stock Samsung firmware or T-Mobile firmware, but I read that thanks to a recent update, the phone will adapt to any SIM card that's inserted into the phone. Is this true? Will a T-Mobile SIM work in a Verizon branded phone without flashing the phone first with features like MMS and Wi-Fi Calling?
Would there be any added benefits to flashing a stock or T-Mobile firmware at this point?
Thanks!

For the most part yes they adapt themselves now. Some have to be SIM unlocked but I believe the Verizon model already is. It should say SIM inserted please restart. It will install all the t mobile junk including any volte or WiFi calling. They might have.
I actually put in my Simple mobile sim card into my unlocked Verizon S8 and calling works but im not getting any decent data even tho i live in a area. With good coverage. Would i have to somehow flash tmobile radio? I been corrected the apn settings
Professor may have to manual add the access point. I had to when I did a verizon Z force 2 to Att.
I bought a note 9 that is currently a SM-N960U1 but my IMEI shows as Sprint unlocked. Is this going to have any trouble on AT&T or Tmobile? The phone works fine right now with an AT&T sim, minus VoLTE and WiFi Calling. Am I going to have to flash carrier firmware depending on who I am with or does the sim card take care of that? I apologize I have been out of the phone game for a few years.

You should have no issues if the device is unlocked. Boot the device, insert sim card, and follow on screen instructions. Itll reboot and change the software compatibility over to the carrier belonging to the sim card you insert.

I put my at&t sim in and it did all that, phone works fine. I just didn't know if I had to flash at&t firmware to get the bands or functions.

Good. All the US Note 9s are the same hardware and software. Just depends on which software is active.??

Nope. The options aren't in the settings either.
I bought an unlocked Verizon G8 and I inserted my old xfinity SIM card then factory reset, (which on other phones, converts it to the xfinity variant) but this time I just keep getting the verizon splash screen and I cannot get OTA updates through Xfinity.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated

Inserting a Sim will not convert it to any other variant. There's nothing you can do

I helped someone else who had a s10e that had verizon firmware. I just put in a xfinity sim card, factory reset. And it booted with xfinity firmware. The G8 wont do that though

Yeah... Most phones will definitely not do that. I'm not sure what the huge benefits from having Xfinity firmware would be though.

I suppose it's not. I'm just having trouble getting the latest updates. The Verizon update assistant only gave me the update before the most current one. Know how I could get the updates ?
I'm using a Verizon G8 on XM. To get updates, you need to insert a Verizon SIM, and after the update put your XM SIM back in.
Galaxy Flagships (S8 and up, if unlocked) has multi-carrier support.
I'm sure none of LG phones does that yet.

What do you mean? It's just a matter of supported bands... Depends on each carrier, and sometimes some other hardware matters too, but if the band is supported, it will use it if it can't default to whatever the original carrier's band is

When I meant multi-carrier support, the device converts its firmware to the carrier firmware of the sim card.
ex) Inserting an T-Mobile sim card into Unlocked Verizon Galaxy S8+, then it will reboot and install whatever T-Mobile Galaxy S8+ has (default apps, apns, volte, everything only T-Mobile version has)

Oh. That does not work for all phones though since there's slightly different hardware
