So we know there's a couple of ROMs for our beloved Mi5.
But it's really confusing which one should I use as a daily driver.
Lets see what they've got.
MIUI 8
We all are known about this one. Perhaps We all used it.
Excellent user interface with a lot of**features.
Battery management is good enough but RAM management isn't what we expect.**
It looks really nice and unique having MIUI8 on our phone.
Lineage OS
The successors of CyanogenMod. Most of us might use this one as it's the most popular Custom ROM out there.
It provides full Android stock features with many mods and features.**You can customize it like hell.**Installing Xposed will let you feel the heaven of Android.**( Though Xposed isn't released for Nougat yet. But it will.)**Using a suitable Kernel as your need would boost you one step up.**Now Lineage OS**doesn't contain CM theme engine anymore but Substratum works well. Actually they're planning to add Substratum as their new theme engine.
AOSP
This is similar to Lineage OS. Also a Stock Android based Rom.**But it doesn't have any extra features like other. It actually**gives you a Nexus/Pixel type feel. AOSP provides what Google provides. Though now AOSP works with Substratum. That mean yon can switch between different themes and layers if you want.**I'd say it's**better than old CM Theme Engine.**
So, now this is your task to select the best choice for Mi5.
[Currently I'm on Xiaomi.eu 7.2.24.**Now I wanna switch.**And my confusion make me to post this thread
Since you've already tried MIUI, I suggest the next ROM you try must be AOSP (as the poll suggests).
Try running SlimDragons 2.0 with your partitions (System, Data and Cache) formatted to F2FS and flash DragonXia 3.7 OC

Exactly, it's as simple as that. You'd be amazed at the speed of this setup. Just change the animation speed in Dev Options (all except window animation) to make use of it.
Personally I like MIUI and AOSP (with preference to AOSP). MIUI has lots of features (like dual apps, second space, themes) and the camera is great. AOSP is clean, fast and fluid with a much better UX - notifications always comes through, you can directly reply from the status bar, you can expand any notification and swipe away individual ones, multitasking is great, double tap last app and split view is nice, etc.
Thank You.
AOSP!!!!!!!
To me, less is more, so i choose AOSP. I've tried MIUI 8.2, the battery is good enough (4-5hrs), but the ram management is bad, I don't feel like I have a powerful device on MIUI 8.2 because the apps load kinda slow same as the wifi (max: 1mb/s) and my country 3G is bad on MIUI. Lineage is awesome, extremely good battery (6-7hrs), fast app load, fast wifi (max 4-5mb/s), a lot of customizations but the 3G is MIUI alike AOSP is same as Lineage but not so many customization and the 3G is awesome. Sorry for my bad English.

Yeah works but you have to make your device unencrypted first by doing a full factory data reset. Actually you have to wipe your internal storage.
then it would work with TWRP.

XOSP is one of my fev rom. Never flashed it on my Mi5 though. Used it before on Xperia SP.
Maybe it's now unofficial for Mi5.
There is an official Thread now, so this Thread is out of order!

NitrogenOS!
Important!
I am NOT the owner or developer of this ROM!
All credit goes to @xyyx
We are all very thankful for his work!
Please if you want to post something on this thread, do NOT
-post something that was already said before
-tell us bugs which are already well known
-ask for new features as I am not the developer!
-blame @xyyx for bugs or better, don't mention him at all!

unofficial TWRP

What is currently not working?
- VoLTE, but Vo2G is working fine.
Please do NOT tell us bugs which are already well known!
It can be very annoying if everybody is reporting the same bug again and again.

hows Camera qualitie, and hows sot?
I'm using modded GCam and quality is good enough.
Battery life is just okay , Mobile Network Standby is my biggest drain . I have 43mins SOT with 77% remaining...
How do I flash this? I'm on latest TWRP and have RR Android 7.1.2 installed. When I try to flash this (or other 8.x-based ROMs, I'm stuck at "Patching System unconditionally at about 7-10%).
Android 7.1.x-based ROMs flash just fine. Any suggestions?

OpenBeta or Stable Oreo Firmware?
Something short.
Build: 20171124
I'm happy :silly:
Bugs
- Sometimes, Home button stop working after deep sleep, just reboot or use add fingerprint to got it working again.
- Some random FC messages (2 today) (doesn't affect daily usage).
- Can't share files via Hotspot with Solid Explorer (Classic and Material) Give FC and keeps draining battery in Background even deleting app data and force stop.
- Same with Camera Roll, after opening it keeps draining Battery in Background doesn't matter what.
Avoiding these little things, nothing to reproach. In terms of BB is working better than any Nougat ROMs for me and performance and smoothness is totally decent. Some things doesn't appear in battery drain list (ADM and others little things, nothing to worry) and obviously the three I uninstalled (Solid, Solid Classic and Camera Roll)
By the way, H+ all the day.
new update from 27nov is up! :good:

Root, Unofficial Snapshot Magisk 14.5.2 by Kantjer. Official should work too without problems.
Only Servicely, but its no really necessary, the ROM by itself have a great BB.
I haven't used Nitrogen since I had the Hammerhead, but damn, this is nice. I'd say the best Oreo alternative so far for our OP3.

I shared it for treble users, not know it could have impact on a dev that ported a ROM.
I shared it for this ROM also, maybe it give more advantages compared to vendors we already have and where is not known which one to use.
Oh wait we don't need to flash vendor for this ROM,lol I forgot
Viper OS it's a good thing, I remember my HTC m9 with viper on it, was amazing, but how it can compare with latest pure stock mod rom? maybe someone trying this one already
Dolby atmos does not work, but dolby digital plus does.Combined with sauron mod and custom config file, the audio quality is ok (come close to dolby atmos)
But this rom got same bugs as earlier los15 builds.Turning of wifi acces for apps force close settings.Security patch is on reboot random from 2018,other time its from 2019.Random safetycheck fails/true in magisk
Also on every reboot, magisk modules are not shown in app drawer.I need to wipe cache and dalvik everytime in twrp to fix this issue (dont know the cause).
The vendor partition also contains files where i have my ? on it.What does the vendor/etc/perf folder do? Well i think it boost the vendor system, but its not needed? Ive just wiped the folder from vendor partition (ive notice this folder boost display touch also to 1036mhz on any moment you touch it,and it stays on that freq)
And the feull gauge problem still persist.
Perfect rom for me, very smooth, light, include enough tweaks and optimization, after long time searching I have found what I need.
Now I got guaranteed 6h of comfort watching youtube vanced, it can be even 7h, with my old ~80% life battery , for me it's success, compare to other roms, so I can recommend it for trying to everyone, thanks for this topic
PS. Can't find any problems with magisc modules, I use this rom without any kernels or vendors, just flash it with beangapps, ainur, and etc. Audiofx to me it's not ideal, so I remove it with installation musicfx, By the way, can't find working Dolby Atmos, DD+ works but sound is terrible, I like what I hear without dolby, and even do not want to go back to a clean and optimized latest stock mod, because viperos suits me good

Switched to this rom from DotOs after I found out my banking app doesn't work with any of the 9.0 GSIs. First impressions seem great. A few features Dotos had are missing but there are other ones which it didn't have. Battery life seems better with Schwifty kernel v5. Thanks!

That was really the best answer i could get thank you very much you are the man wow
Im testing this Rom for 1 day straight now and I have to admit for me, it is the most stable and even the fastest Rom. :good:
I never thought that the build in camera app is so good, even has hdr and slow motion, 1080p 60 fps and 4k recording is no problem at all
Extremly light, no junk apps at all and lots of customization options. Though, i miss a few tiny things
1. Turn on Torch LED when phone is sleeping with holding down power button.
2. A more advanced power menu
3. Screenrecording (Idk if its possible in 8.1 though, ive used it a lot in some other Pie roms)
:good:
With this ROM my bluetooth headphones playback control sometimes don't work or it lags pretty bad. (Next/Prev Track, Pause/Play) Didn't have this problem with any other ROM before. Now I can't easily skip tracks anymore.

Is there a way to get Pixel style navbar icons instead of Xiaomi's?
Thanks for the development. I am using it since 1 day and I am quite satisfied. Everything works fine (including dt2w) and the ROM seems stable so far. Battery idle drain is around 1 to 1.5 % which is okay, but I will check during the next days to get a final conclusion. Again, thanks.
Do the screen refresh overclocking mods work on this?
Do you have more information about the OP gestures? Trying to get this to work.
I spent some time to flash COSP BUT i still rolled back PE+ with Los kernel base. Some reasons here:
1.Security is outdated.(It' still in Sep-2019)
2.Phone and message app are outdated as well and cannot be changed into black theme.
3.Cannot install Dolby sound mod.

Yes, battery is good. I was on 0,72% overnight.
@RuinWMD666 Thanks a lot for building this rom. Its clean, fast, easy to use. The clock with notifications in it is very nice, did not know that it existed.
Two minor things:
- Android Auto will cause trouble. Disable hardware overlay in developer options fixes this. This is a problem on every AOSP based ROM.
- Charging in my car is very, very slow. This is also a problem with all AOSP roms. On MIUI charging is faster. So, when i'm in my car it seems that voltage is turning down by AOSP rom.
Is there a fix for charging?

Lightheart 1.0 - The key to speed.
Hi everyone. My name is Skulldron and for those of you who do recognise me, know me as the creator of Project Pixel, another one of the greatest ways to emulate the Pixel Experience, whilst keeping all the benefits of using OneUI and its stock optimized drivers as its base. Today I'm going to introduce something, different. Over the years of working on Touchwiz based ROMs, I've learnt the description of every little apk, every little permission, what it accepts and what it rejects, its pros and its cons. As a result of this experience, I have one of the best debloat lists out there, with each item on the debloat list, being tested, through extensive testing, and it goes over every file and every partition known in the OneUI OS. This exact same debloat script was used in Project Pixel, which has received positive review after positive review for how efficient and how lightweight OneUI became after the debloat. Today however, I present to you Lightheart OS, a new project that I will be building myself and updating monthly. Today I showcase Lionheart, the Lineage OS to my Cyanogenmod.
Key Features:
1. Heavily Debloated System: The debloat script that was made by me, has over 250+ debloated permissions, apks and other files.
2. Better Battery Performance due to Efficiency - With the removal of an incredible amount of bloat, along with better performance and lesser services, you should be looking at better SOTs and better standby times.
3. Kernel Power Control: With MTweaks and Magisk, you will be able to control your device’s clock speed and be able to force higher GPU and CPU Clock, when doing more intensive tasks such as gaming.
4. Better Kernel Performance - Due to the deepness of the debloat, the kernel now has more RAM and more space to be more efficient and allow it to focus on less threads at once.
5. Latest available patch with the promise of updates every month - Every month an update is released, the ROM will be updated along with it, with a time frame of 1-2 weeks.
6. Restored some stock Google Permissions - Some stock google framework was restored, such as the default setup wizard.
7. All Essential Samsung Features have been kept - All essential OneUI features have been kept alive, for the sole purpose of necessity.
8. Completely Deknoxed -The ROM has been Deknoxed and FRP lock measures have been disabled
9. VoLTE Supported
Individual Features:
1. AdAway
2. Eleven Music
3. Files GO
4. GBoard
5. Android Pie AOSP Emojis
6. Lightheart X Boot Animation
7. AOSP System Sounds
8. Samsung Gallery (Stripped Down and lightened to improve performance)
9. Samsung's Stock Camera with HDR parameter changes, debloated and additional video modes
10. SystemUI Tuner (Provides battery stats along with other useful customizations - Check QS icons and add it to QS Panel to view)
11. YouTube Vanced (Ad-free Youtube)
12. Mtweaks (Has Hardware Control - Similar to Kernel Adiutor but more tailored to Exynos)
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS: (Backup everything, including contacts, photos etc.)
1. Download the zip and download the latest Magisk (ROM will not boot if Magisk is not flashed due to encryption procedures)
2. Wipe System, Data, Dalvik Cache and Cache
3. Flash the zip and flash Magisk.
Notes:
- To view Battery Stats and Storage, pull down the Quick Settings Panel and on the top right click the three bubbles button and then Button Order. Then move the new Battery and Storage icon to the Quick Settings.
- Set Trebuchet as default launcher, for better battery savings. OneUI Home was only included for its app switcher.
Changelog:
1.0 - Initial Release
If changes are made, they will be highlighted in the next post.

I'm with you too, I love one UI but I hate the the one ui camera, It's down the quality and colors. I tried many one ui roms even different versions they released in my s7 edge like BlackDiamond, Note FE and FloydQ. These all roms are great and rich of new features but the cam is the problem.. It's not clear and quality than stock cam.. if you look carefully you can seen the deference of the stock cam and one ui cam. So I decided to go back my oreo rom.. please anyone can make oreo cam work with pie..

I will try it bro..
Very good start of the project because it is very compact, only certain things would have to be improved, such as solving the ug that you cannot play videos directly from the first screen of the vanced, or that the weather does not work correctly since it is fixed in another location without power replace because the gps does not start at all, and the camera libraries are not good since you can not change the video resolution of the rear camera. There are some details that I found but to be the initial one if it is quite good.

a new old rom
I'm very glade to see on tomorrow morning that a new rom project is coming : Lightheart.
I've download it, attempt to install it but I'm facing to a bootloop after enter sim code.
I've attempt 3, 4 times again to install it, after a deep reset but always the same bootloop.
Could anyone help me.
I've notice that when I install it from twrp, the first line is "Project Pixel P v1.0.1"not Lightheart 1.0. Why ?
Does lightheart starts to update project pixel rom ?
PS : A new official update is published :

Mod edit: Translation I also feel the same. Rom is very smooth, but sometimes it's a little stiff and then normal. Settings cannot enter Samsung account, so it cannot be restored. The messaging software does not show notifications ...
Thanks for your work, will consider trying it out. One question ahead: has this ROM WiFi-Calls? I have barely a cellphone signal at my appartement, that's why it is important for me. Thank you.
I've modded this rom,
- replace touchwiz or tribuchet by lighting launcher
- replace messaging by pulse
- video player by mxplayer
- files by es file explorer pro (new version is free and addon free)
- delete all samsung apk and replace samsung contact, dialer, callUi and telephoneUi by true phone dialer
This rom works perfectly at this time
Only one question : I've replace QuickPic by another one apk. How can I open photos directly from apk camera with this new one photo editor like it could be do with quickpic ?
Best regards
