Help in choosing rom for OnePlus 3T A3010 - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hello I hope someone could help me about my concerns.
1. Is there a chance for hard brick when installing custom roms? (phone become a trash)
2. I've bought this phone for 2 days, and I update to OOS 4.1.6 OTA. After the update, it seems it gets hotter than my first few days. It gets so hot on top back of the phone - area near the camera and I'm just using wifi for facebook (no other background app). (My redmi note 3 gets hot when playing heavy games but not on facebook)
3. If there is no risk in getting to new custom rom, could you give me link from where should I start? Unlocking bootloader? TWRP?
Thank you very much! and sorry for the spoonfeed.

There is always a risk of bricking if you go in without fully reading the descriptions and steps to follow, but if you carefully look over what to do it'll be a breeze. I'm not sure of the link but there are a couple of YouTube videos I followed to unlock my bootloader and install twrp.

I agree, start with the thread and read read read. Research, learn, and understand everything before you start.
A spoonfeed (step by step guides, Youtube, etc.) is what you don't want (at least not by themselves - only as a supplement to real research and learning). As such things just show you what to do, without giving you any real understanding, or telling you how to get out of a jam, and often skip important steps. Guides and videos often don't tell you to backup your data or stock ROM, or how to restore to stock - I can never understand why those critical steps are glossed over!
This phone is very hard to brick by flashing a ROM. And there is an unbrick tool that can help, even if you do brick it.

HELP: MotoG 2nd Gen (xt1064) suddenly stuck in boot

Hello.
My motoG 2nd gen XT1064 just passed the warranty date about 2 months ago. I'm on marshmallow 6.0, and bootloader is currently locked and running stock rom.
Yesterday I rebooted my phone for the first time in about 1 month. Upon startup, after the moto boot screen, a box popped up with "Android is starting.... Optimizing app xx of XXX...."
I let the apps optimization take its course, (about 15-20 minutes) immediately afterwards the screen turns black. Not off black, but backlight is on kind of black. Eventually after 5 minutes it reboots, and continues the same cycle over and over and over.
I let it do it overnight, uncharged, and eventually the battery died. I let it charge completely, started up the phone, deleted cache partition, but still the same problem.
I will attempt to wipe the phone from the recovery option, and hopefully that fixes it.
My question is
a) IS there any way to access the internal storage of phone via usb connected to my laptop while in bootloader screen and extract some important files and photos I did not get a chance to backup...
b) I plan on unlocking bootloader and rooting now that my warranty is done, but if I cannot get the phone running properly with the wipe/restore option, do I have to flash stock factory firmware before unlocking, rooting, and flashing something like CM?
Please be patient with me. I'm not computer illiterate, just very inexperienced with this stuff. Any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
To whom it may concern:
I went ahead and unlocked my bootloader, which wiped my phone clean.
Phone is working great now. My question is, is it worth to root the phone and install a custom ROM? I'm a novice, and these XDA forums are information OVERLOAD. So many different methods, opinions, ROMS, etc etc.
I think most people install CM13. Is there a noob friendly, comprehensive guide to rooting and installing CM13 the clean and proper way?

Can someone explain to differences between 'apps locked in recent tab' , 'protected apps' and apps that 'ignore battery optimization'?
From what I understand:
-apps locked in recent tab just "stay there" after you press trash icon for quick access later on, but are closed when you lock your phone;
-protected apps don't close when you lock phone, if you keep all it's like having regular phone with stock/CM;
-apps what ignore battery optimization will be closed when you lock phone, but when you are running them they'll use all resources like if you were using "Performance" power plan.
Am I right, or did I get something wrong?

Will someday any CM (Lineage) based ROM fully support this camera? Like in EMUI stock, with dual cameras, manual controls etc. I mean is it even possible? Or for best camera experience you're forced to use EMUI?

Sorry if this sounds silly to you guys as I'm not as adept as others, but in order to run these updates successfully, do I need to be:
1. Unrooted
2. Running Stock Recovery
3. Have the Bootloader Locked
I have issues trying to update from B136 to B182, where the update fails at various percentages.
Can I go from B136 to B182 or do I have to gradually update? Any help is really appreciated, TIA!

UPDATE: I flashed the Full B166 - not the OTA - and this worked straight away. It then allowed me to update to B182 OTA and that worked without issue also.
Bootloader remained unlocked. Not that it is an issue as I would have unlocked it anyway.
From B136 ..
1. Unroot
2. Stock Recovery
3. Flash B166 Full (not B166 OTA)
4. OTA Upgrade to B182
5. TWRP Recovery
6. Root

Hello, i'm frontera Argentina and my LG G4 finally got his bootloop problem, so I'm going to buy a new phone (not LG) and I'm deciding between Huawei P9 or Moto Z play. I know there are completely different phones, but my only doubt about the Huawei are the updates of the firmware, how is it? I know that Moto have their phones up to date, and that's something important, how about P9? Worth it?

Hello XDA.
This is my first post on forum and as you can tell, i'm a noob and a proud owner of EVA-L09 running on emui 5.1 (android 7.0). I'd like to start my adventure with rooting this device cause custom ROMs like "ressurection" are very tempting. There are some guides on how to do this but considering date of creating these, I feel that it might be outdated.
I need a step-by-step (for a total idiot) guide according to my version of os etc. It would be awesome if someone who owns custom tweaked P9 shared some personal advices and recommendations on best ROM possible for this particular device. I hope that it's not too much to ask I'm just really careful so if I'm throwing my warranty to trash, I want it to be worth it.
Thank you for your time

Urgent: how to backup photos and contacts from a hacked Huawei P30 phone?
I have a Huawei P30 phone not rooted and never been in strangers hands.
Few months ago this crazy woman shared a fake video on my Facebook page. I clicked on it but won't open unless I installed a "flash plugin", obviously fake. I did it and the video won't open anyway. Few hours later she started to tease me about things I said privately to my friends via Whatsapp and Instagram, and in the following months she started insulting me with fake Instagram profiles every time I chatted privately with other girls, once making a clear reference to a picture I held in my private gallery.
I believe that the only way to get rid of this trojan/RAT is to factory reset my phone. But, considering I have more than 10 thousands photographies, 700 videos and 1500 contact numbers, I would like to save these datas, even manually.
To do this, can I 1) plug the hacked smartphone into my PC with a USB cable, while keeping them both OFFLINE, 2) then manually export contacts, photos and videos? Then 3) transfer these datas, always manually, into a brand new Iphone?
THANKS

Help needed with new phone

Hello
Just got myself a new piece today. I'm afraid to do anything wrong and afraid to use without installing a new ROM myself.
I have read on different forums that when you buy a global version they are often infested with malware and you have to do af fastboot update to remove it all.
I haven't powered the device up yet because I want to do things right the first time.
My intention is to have the newest official stable global rom on the phone. I just not sure which step i need to take.
If a helpful soul could advice me I would really really appriciate that I have found several guide but I need to know the exact right steps. It is okay if you link to a step by step guide.
Here are links that I would go with, but I'm not sure if I need to unlock and if I have to wait for 2 weeks to be approved or if there is a quicker way

Hello welcome to the yard. ?
If you're still afraid of beginning with all these great guides, better do not power on though.

Well eventually I will have to power it on - won't I
I'm not affraid to use these guides or some other detailed step by step procedure. I'm just a little confused about the order and if these guides can be used if I want newest official global stabel ROM. I guess It is more the steps than what you do in the steps - hope it makes sense

You'll have to get it powered up and registered. Xiaomi impose a 3 day embargo on you where you cannot unlock the bootloader, I'd at least get that timer ticking away and then apply to unlock it asap.
Then you need to install TWRP. I recommend searching for the Mr Raine's version.
Pick a ROM and then off you go!

Think they're trying to scare you, just look about phone check ROM number to see if it matches 1 of Xiaomi official ROM. I had vendor ROM and my house hasn't been stolen, just don't turn you're data on.

A fastboot update wouldn't remove anything that's on the device. As it sounds, it would just perform an update.
As others stated, you should get it powered on & start the unlock process through Xiaomi. You don't need to sign into your Google account, so the only thing they would have access to is the Xiaomi account you register with.
After you are able to unlock the device, get a custom recovery (TWRP) installed. You may need to try a few different ones, i.e.: The "official" one doesn't have the touchscreen when booted into it.
From there, choose a ROM, flash, & you're good to go.

Thanks for the help so far and good advices.
Update of the situation is that I powered the beauty up. I could see that it took me through the entire setup phase from the beginning like it is normal for a brand new and untouched phone. Shortly after it was updated twice via OTA and is now on the newest official global ROM.
Everything is working perfect and I am extremely happy with the phone.
Two days ago I requested Xiaomi to unlock the bootloader as I would like to root the phone.

Let me know how it goes when you do, & what you end up flashing. I'm done the latest MIUI Beta & now the Pixel Experience 8.1 ROM, & I keep losing voice call server. Looks like I can still text, but no outgoing or incoming calls. I'm running on Project Fi too. With all these issues, I'm considering a switch to the Essential Phone. Arriving today for me to test out.

New S10E (Exynos) owner: questions on root, TWRP and first basic operations

Hello,
sorry if the questions may be redundant, but with all the threads on this matter I am a bit confused as to what "macro" operations to perform in order to have a rooted and fully operational device.
So, let us assume that I am going to buy a new, unbranded S10E (Exynos) tomorrow. What I aim to is the following:
have my device rooted
have TWRP
have no bloatware
being able to turn the device on-off normally, without having to perform any "specific" operations (in the rooting guide, I noticed that you have to power on the device with a specific combination of keys in order to boot it with root. I would like to turn it on - in rooted mode - by simply pressing the Power button)
have the latest official updates (at least those compliant with the points above)
So, having said this, can anyone tell me what macro operations to perform in order to meet all these "requirements"?
By "macro operations" I don't mean to describe every individual step; just something like "(i) update firmware normally; (ii) root by following this guide; (iii) TWRP by following this guide; (iv) then do this by following this guide; ... " and so on.
Any additional tips are (very) appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
This is fairly easy.

Thanks for the heads up.
I know that YouTube is a goldmine of guides, but I still asked my questions here because I was looking for some "up-to-date" answers. YouTube videos/guides tend to get old pretty quickly (especially those regarding techy stuff), and with all the changes occurring regularly, I don't want to risk anything on a ~500€ device
Can I ask you to kindly provide me with a link to the most up-to-date videos that answer all my questions?
I dont think u can break this device that easily. If anything happens reflash stock firmware, it is good as new.
Note: do NOT flash SNAPDRAGON firmware on to a exynos device. You will definitely destory it

Question Download Incomplete, Reboot every 60 Sec?

This was my first attempt at ever trying to put custom rom on a phone, so don't laugh too hard at me. I used the the twrp.img found in this forum, had it going right but when I did something trying to go back to stock for an update, it went into bootloader, but nothing else, no system no recovery. I tried to use the fastboot tool on here, and it reached this and stopped. Any help or is it done for?
PS, I did manage to follow one tutorial to a T, and did great my second time around.

So your second round where you stuck at..?
Have your tried getting factory file...boot img..flashing boot img through fastboot..?
have you tried...fastboot boot " fastboot getvar current-slot " see what slot you on...change to other slot ...see if it boots up...?
What model do you have..?
the more details you give to more people can help you..just saying
I'm sorry, I've not been back online. Single mom, busy. Kids getting older, I have a little more spare time during school hours but this past week has been hectic.
I tried to flash the original boot.img with no luck. It goes black when it connects to a computer but vibrates but isn't recognized on my adb or the fastboot tool. So far nothing.
My second time was another phone, same phone though. OnePlus 10 pro NE2015 model.
The issue also could be that there are no real custom ROMs for this phone yet... you might have flashed a malicious file and killed the phone. Unless you were hopping to GSI. Only real suggestion is to try a complete flash from TWRP or pay for MSM.
If you can't get into recovery, can you flip the boot slot with the hardware combo and get in then? May be your last hope besides EDL/MSM.
This issues happend to Oneplus 9 series with bad update (F.19), but I see this issues for the first time on Oneplus 10 Pro. Is it really on OP10P?

Yes, it's the 10 pro. I was too eager to root a phone and must have missed something, or done something somewhere. I've done several tablets, but not any phone. I've always had Samsung phones through carriers, so I couldn't figure knox out. But I've been researching and reading for months about rooting a phone, and decided that the OP 10 pro would be my first try. I'm not sure where I went wrong. I managed to get a second one, and followed the guide again, and well, that is the one I'm on now, and it seems fine.

AFAIK, according to @g96818 as well, you have to hold all three hardware buttons down, let it attempt to boot, continue holding the buttons and it should like shut off immediately right after the boot logo and switch to the other boot slot.

Yeah, the key to this device is basically do not flash anything to it, just boot from images. You CAN flash TWRP but I would personally recommend against it for daily use right now until data decryption is fixed fully. Just BL unlock, root it, and play with some Magisk modules like V4A, that's all we got on 10Pro for now.
Just some pics of the device...
But @Prant I'm curious to know, what is the difference between having the TWRP and not having it installed regarding rooting? Luckily, OP makes rooting for easier with unlocking the BL. But honestly, the confusion I've had the most understanding in the rooting process at this point is the whole difference between having TWRP and not having it, while installing Magisk.
(Y'all have to excuse me for my not having as much knowledge. I'm just basically a bored at home Mom with kids getting older, and tries to find something to get interested in that wasn't so old lady like. I've never been one to enjoy sewing, knitting, gardening, etc... HA!)

This is a bit of a dated thing from 6-8 years ago or so, TWRP used to be the gold standard for recovery on a phone. However, nowadays companies have gotten smarter and want more control over their device, so they add things like Knox (in Samsung) to keep the device "safe." OPPO/OnePlus has started doing this with the OP9 and the OP10 is their first attempt at keeping the device "basically" locked.
Long story short, TWRP is useful to do backups but I've even seen cases of backups on this device in particular failing when restored. And it used to be the main entry point, the first step to rooting any android device. However in recent years, it's become less and less necessary as you can do almost everything you can do in TWRP, through ADB and fastboot. Flashing is still a no go (on this device, thanks to OPPO magic) , but booting a patched image works for now. In the next years I'm sure even that will be secured somehow.
And, haha, there's nothing wrong with getting into tinkering, it's a helluva rabbit hole that's for sure.
Good luck and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Easiest answer is that there is no free / public MSM tool. Which means no way to recover from a bad flash without paying OPPO, essentially. That's not very developer friendly.
