[OPINIONS NEEDED] Should I get this device?

Hello all! My name is Terence, and I've been dealing with Android devices and rooting for years now, so the first things I always look at when I'm searching for new devices are the Dev community, and the AOSP scene. Right the the device I have is the LG G2, and while its an amazing device, flashing ROMs (or hell, just owning the device in general) is a lot like playing Russian Roulette with the display. What I mean by that is, there is a known problem with this phone where permanent black lines would appear on the right side of the device, with no real explanation so far. At first, people thought it was because of flashing certain ROMs, or the phone overheating. Then people started vetted screen damage being just on stock. And I am one of those people with screen damage. So I started thinking, I can either get this fixed for $130, or search for a new device. I've found a good condition HTC One M7 for $150. My question(s) to you is, should I do it? Is it worth it just to buy this particular device? Are there any crazy issues such as my screen damage that pops up? I know the One isn't quite as good as the LG G2 on paper, but I'm not really a power user like that. I just love me some AOSP ROMs, and there's work being done on Lollipop, which is also a huge plus. I've never used the G2 so it's hard to compare, but I like my m7. The only crazy issue that pops up is that pictures taken in the dark can get a purple hue to them. The consensus seems to be that it's caused when the phone gets hot. Since I usually don't take pictures at night, it hasn't affected me much. As for the developer scene, we have some great developers here still. I can't think of a single ROM that was not created/ported to this phone. Also, HTC is still actively developing for it, so that's a plus.

I would go for the G2 simply due to the combination of performance, battery life, and awesome bezelness it provides.
The purple hue is actually a VERY widespread manufacturing defect. Sending the phone in for warranty repair fixes it - I have no idea how much it would cost without warranty. And really, the camera isn't all that spectacular even in good conditions. However, HTC seems to be committed to providing a great UX, with their Play Store apps, timely updates, and Dev support.
So it comes down to this: would you rather have a mediocre(honestly, that's being generous) phone with great dev options or a great phone with mediocre dev options?

I think that is a rather harsh.
Frankly if you are going for a used m7 which doesnt have a camera issue I think it is a very good choice to have because frankly this was awarded the best phone of 2013 and we will officially get the lollipop. Sense UI is one of the better additions as opposed to the rest

The thing is, the whole reason why I'm even considering doing this is because of the G2's seemingly random problem with permanent screen damage on the device, which I will upload a picture of. People have gotten their displays fixed and either had black lines again straight from boot, or had everything be okay. I simply do not want to waste my money for a fix, so it'd probably just be better to get a new device altogether.
Maybe what I'll end up doing is fix the screen sometime in the future and then end up selling one of the devices, depending on which offers me better real-life performance and has a better development scene.

I did mention that HTC has really developed quite a rep for being Dev friendly and providing a great UX and timely updates.
However, they put WAY too much effort into making this device good looking and feeling (I'll be honest, this is, to me, the single best looking and feeling device ever built. Including the M8 and every other phone I have ever seen) and not enough into making this a good performer. The camera took the worst hit of all, along with battery life.
However, the G2 seems to have its fair share of problems. It seems that the tiny bezel may be the cause of those broken LCDs. The m7, however, is a solid phone, and will physically never fail you. It was tested to be one of the most durable devices out there.

These are the two things people ding the phone for and I understand why, but for me, the battery lasts at least a day with bad reception and two days with good. I do admit though that I'm not on the phone a lot, but I can usually get 3-4 hours of screen time. As for the camera, I've taken some really good low light pictures with it (see attached for my favorites, one has my wife and mini-me in it).

I think that HTC one is meant for people who want all rounder phone. Its not the best at any aspect but is very good in most
LG is meant for people who actually do benchmark tests and compare numbers. Count the number of pixels. etc
Its focused on power users.
But Frankly i think smart phones these days are over powered anyways. I mean do you really need a octa core phone to play flappy bird?
I use HTC because its comfortable and friendly and good looking its not the most powerful one or with the most number of megapixel but it works.

Well I ended up getting it, and I'm... Well, I'm slightly disappointed. The phone is definitely smooth and fluid for being an older device, but what I did NOT know was how damn small this thing was. I really can't even type too well with this device because of the screen size. And I have he purple camera bug as well, but luckily for me, I actually don't use the camera too much, and all definitely points to heating issues, because once the phone cools down, the pictures go back to normal. Speaking of heat, this phone gets HOT. Like, hot for no damn reason. I could simply just have the screen on for two minutes and it'd already start cooking eggs. Which leads me to my next point. Battery drain. Holy Christ this thing doesn't know what it wants to do with it's battery. I could be at 15% then plug the phone in, reboot to recovery to flash a different ROM, then suddenly I'm at 52%, then I'll drop down to 36% after just setting up all of my apps.
In conclusion, I've come to terms that this device isn't just for me, and I will be selling it to fix my G2 screen.

You have a defective device lol that's sad because I honestly love my m7 and I don't feel the need to upgrade yet. My old m7 had horrid battery drain and the speakers blew put but my second one has been running smooth on stock for 6 months now (old one was 6 months but I dealt with those issues for about 2 months) . My battery life still amazes me. I love the size the form factor and the hardware keys. Honestly the only deal breaker for me is no SD card slot. I'm no where close to filling up 32 gigs but I like having the option for on the go pr0ns and what not.
Another major problem is the camera. I've come to the conclusion all m7's have the purple hue problem and its very annoying. I can't send nice pics unless I use the flash but sometimes it gets white washed its OK I deal with that fault because everything else is perfect especially the 4.7 inch 1080p. I was lookin to upgrade to the z3 compact but its only 720p

Nothing about that sounds normal. I have an M7 and I have no intention of upgrading until "the next big thing" arrives. Maybe silicon anode batteries. Or lytro cameras that can do live HDR and supersampling.
This phone is really solid, and I can't imagine anyone actually hating it. Maybe you need to calibrate the battery by running it down completely then fully charging it (without turning it back on)?
And hey, 4.7" is perfect!
I dunno, choice is yours. Fixing the G2 sounds great, whatever.

You have a defective device. I did advise you to ensure you have no issues with the used phone before getting it
That device isnt meant for anyone I guess.
If the price is too good to be true I guess it really was too good to be true unfortunately for you

Nice to see y'all came to the same conclusions hahah. The g2 is a great phone none the less so you should prilly stick with it.

I'm a fan of HTC and I only buy their devices but not some of there craps. I bought a used HTC One m7 4 months back and I love it. Its solid, slim,easy to handle and excellent quality. It has very slight pink tint issue or almost not. I haven't had problems while taking photos day/night so far. It has ST sensor. Only problem is green tint when flash is turned on but I believe its software issue and will be fixed soon. Apart none of the issues I have that you have stated. I play Traffic Racer, Turbo Racing 3D and even Real Racing 3 for hours but the device will be hardly heated, Thanks to aluminum body. It is having CM11 official Nightly and I always update it.
Battery life is at-least 1 day on heavy usage and 2 days on light usage.
LG G2 has 5.2" whereas HTC One M7 has 4.7 so a difference of half inch makes you feel HTC One M7 is small. I did not had problems with typing but I think you have bigger hands so you need more then 5" of display or a note. Still bigger mean difficult to handle daily and its the reason we call smartphones for small devices and note for bigger.
Used devices will never be 100% working conditions unless seller is trusted. Sometimes seller hide the issues and sell it to get best price, so you have to be careful.

I never really post much but I do have to agree that if you do a little work this has been my favorite phone to date. I have viper one for my Rom. Took some time learning getting customized the way I want and have kangaroo kernel for double tap to wake.
I hate the sleep button so the screen wake was my last hurtle. Battery could be better I guess. That may be a sign how much I use it though.
I tried the Moto x for a while and it's a really nice phone however with my setup I'm not looking anymore for a while. Gave the moto to the wife.

How much of a concern is the battery life (specifically, SOT)?

Hello everyone!
Background (less important): So, I've been looking at getting a Oneplus phone for a while but when my last 2 phones died back to back, I got an S6 from insurance. Problem with the S6 being just about everything (no SD card expansion, no removable battery, no rooting abilities, etc). I've been keeping an eye out for the right time to get a new device and, now that my device memory is full, I'm looking at a new phone.
I was looking at picking up either the S7 or the Oneplus 3T. The S7 is under $500 on amazon, which is pretty surprising (thought it would be much more expensive), has expandable SD card support, pretty good battery, good camera, lots of RAM, etc and they just got the ability to root. It also has some cool options like medical sensor stuff, etc (not all that important, just extra bells and whistles).
However, the 3T appears to have a very active rooting/mods community, and overall, many people have said this is the best phone they've ever had so I'm leaning towards picking that up. The only downsides I've seen/heard are the camera on the 3T isn't as good (definitely not the end of the world, it's still an upgrade from my S6) and I've seen a number of battery drain threads and that genuinely concerns me. I understand that those with the issue are likely going to be a lot more vocal than those that have everything working but I was hoping to gauge how much of a concern this really is and if anyone has determined the cause of the battery drain and if there's a solution. What I don't want to do is get a developer friendly phone that dies super quick (I understand it charges fast too but I don;t want to rely on that).
Anyway, this is kind of an important decision for me as my goal is to keep a phone for 3 years so I'm looking for a phone that is pretty well future proof (for a while, I know 3 years is a long time in the technology field) and I don't want to "settle" for a phone that's going to give me nothing but headaches.
If you guys could help me understand how big of a deal the battery drain is, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Okay here's the deal. You're posting in the Oneplus 3T forum and people are clearly going to be biased, you're lucky I'm coming from a Galaxy Note 7 and my girlfriend has an S7 Edge.
The experience you're going to get with a Samsung is far richer in features and the camera is superior. The phone just yells premium out of it's every part. The microphone will record your voice better as well.
However, if you're looking for a future proof phone the Oneplus 3T is clearly a winner. People are crying about drain and SoT simply because they're more pretentious and pay more attention to details than Samsung users. All Android phones have some sort of drain and with time, stock ROMs get more laggy and battery consuming. The advantage you have on oneplus is that you can apply all sorts of custom ROMs, kernels and mods to squeeze out the most of your battery, while on Samsung you're more prone of getting stuck with drain sooner or later.
Here's where OP3T's top card comes, dash charge is amazing. At this point I don't even care about SoT since I can charge my phone to 60% in 30m. I'm getting 4-5 hours of SoT without tweaks and 4G always on data using stock ROM. Who even wants to stick their eyes in the phone screen for more than that?
You can't go wrong with the OP3T unless you're willing to wait for the next oneplus.
Bottom line, the drain people have been experiencing on OxygenOS 4.0.3 is of little concern, especially since it's improves with Beta 12 7.1.1. Stop overthinking and get the phone you like.

So just to be clear, you're saying that the battery drain people are experiencing is likely related to a version/rom/etc that they are using and they're too lazy to try different things to try and optimize it but even if I am that lazy, the dash charge still works well enough that it shouldn't be an issue for most people (assuming you're near a charging socket), is that a pretty good synopsis?
Just want to understand if you believe the issue is user error (not using the right software components/settings), user pickiness (IE they're perceiving a problem that's not really there) or if there are the occasional phone that experiences battery issues but it's a very small number.

I think that that's what he wants to tell you. To myself : I have the 3T since yesterday and since I'm coming from a M8 it's a huge upgrade for me. But for your comparison : my brother has the S7 and plenty of my friends have the S7E. S7E is in my opinion a superior phone in terms of camera, mic, display, waterproof .. etc. All the things that make the S7/E more superior is only because Sammy has done a better job, BUT what they didn't was to make the phone future proof. The thing with OP3T is that it also does/contains all of the superior things, it's just not that good. The camera is fine for me, I don't care about waterproofness, a 2K display is nice but you won't notice the difference anyway except for the brightness if you compare them both side by side. I'm pretty sure I've made my point.
Now for the 3T's battery drain : I was still on OxygenOS 3.5.4 because I didn't felt the urge to update. Woke up at 7 AM and plugged it out, somewhere between 10 - 11 AM I was on something like 27 percent. It was somehow strange but ok. Now that I couldn't resist to flash CM13 I've noticed a HUGE difference. I flashed CM13 at around 5 PM while I was charging it (was at 90% at 5PM) and now after 4h of using it I'm at 68%. Huge differnce no doubt and I'm staying at CM13.

Thanks for the advice, particularly about the future proofing. I honestly don't get why Samsung hasn't moved to a USB C connector yet . . . Seems like a no brainer, that's clearly the direction everything is heading.

Yeah, that's my opinion based on experience as a former Oneplus One, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and current Oneplus 3T user. People mostly started complaining about drain with OOS4.0.3 (latest current stock) and it will definitely be fixed with OOS nougat 7.1.1. This "battery drain" stigma that you're currently placing on the OP3T has been placed on all major flagships at some point. I can't be certain how well this device will be officially updated in the future, or how the battery will hold up after many many cycles, but i can assure you it will hold up better than an S7.

They did have USB-C on the Note 7. At the point of S7 launch it wasn't that widespread.

I'm actually really glad you mentioned that because, you're right, I have definitely experienced various stages of battery drain between updates on Samsung devices except I didn't get to choose when or if I wanted to update with those. At least I'll now be in control of those things! Made up my mind, ordering the Oneplus 3T now! Thanks!

6-7 hour of sot per charge every 22-28 hours.

technology is weird. people can get battery drains for all kinds of reasons. google services may be a reason. or some wakelock by some random app that never was a problem, but after installing it on a certain rom on a certain phone it suddenly is a problem. and weirdly enough you are the only one experiencing it. it might be something with the rom where a factory reset may help. some people go ahead and flash another rom and then it is gone. sometimes they make the wrong conclusion that it is the roms fault. or the kernels or whatever. it happens on every phone. just go to a random phones forum and you will find threads with people complaining about battery drain. and they will be the only ones with this particular issue. the vast majority of users does not have such issues. if they do you will find out about it soon enough and after some time there will be an update that fixes it.
my sot is around 5 hours depending on what i do. using media like movies gives you more screen time, heavy gaming gives you less screen time.

Mini review and damn impressed with the MATE-10

I got the Mate 10 last week (not PRO) and I'm very impressed with the phone, I've tried a lot of phones and this one is really hard to fault, the only thing is that it's not running stock Android, but with Nova Launcher on it, you can make it feel like it, so no biggy here, now the rest, damn impressed with it, amazing camera, had the S8+ before this one and in my opinion, the pictures are simply amazing... great 6" 2k screen, with the regular 16:9 aspect ratio, so no letter boxing when watching videos and because the bezels on the sides are very, very slim, it feels great in the hand too... headphone jack output quality is clear and loud, not as loud as the V30, but very close... IR blaster (missed these on phones), it's awesome when you are in the sofa chilling and the remote is gone on a mystical journey again and no where to be found, but hey, just use your phone to control your TV =D... And now the battery, wow, very impressed, never had a phone that lasted me a full day off the charger, I use my phone heavily, so I always had to top up my other phones around 3pm, after unplugging at 6am, with the Mate 10, I'm getting 8hrs SOT, enough to last me 18hrs off the charger, simply amazing battery beast.
If you are looking for a new phone, with top of the range specs and without breaking the bank, I recommend the Mate 10, right now the true flagship killer IMHO.

absolutely correct! im also getting around 8h SOT and i play alot of heavy games. first i though that the phone is draining battery fast but after seeing SOT i realized that it was just my illusion. the 12 core gpu drains the battery faster but actually not that fast. i have set the screen to 1080p mode and power saving toggle is turned on and the phone is still blazing fast even in heavy games. the camera in DxO mark scored 97 (100 in picture quality) and that is truly amazing. knowing that at this point i can respond to those note 8 and iphone x owners who brag about their phone being a camera topper and performance beast. in newer antutu 7 people say that kirin 970 already beaten up the SD845. if thats real then i dont know why would someone not get this phone. the audio quality is just jaw dropping. not to mention the powerful theme engine huehuehue.
also the charging speed is insane. 0 to 100% in just 80 minutes is awesome.

Yep, I swap phones very often, every week or 2 weeks, but I don't know what to get now, because I'll feel like I've just downgraded and there will be nothing new to try, the only one I'm considering right now is the Mi MIX 2 or Essential phone, because of the narrow top bezel, but other than that, I know I'll have a worst phone compared to the MATE 10, so there is really no reason to get another phone, when the Mate 10 is this good. Oh well, guess I found the perfect phone for me, finally xD

This looks like as good as any place to add my thoughts on my ALP-L29 (Mate 10 non pro).. I'm not going to rattle specs, just highlight features I enjoy..
1 month in, 3 firmware updates thus far, unrooted and still content..
Design:
Though the idea of a glass sandwich makes for slippery surfaces, drops, constant fingerprints and extra weight, it is stunningly beautiful. The ergonomics are very good with no sharp edges, balanced perfectly and is one of the few devices with a symmetric design. The volume/power button placement isn't ideal though, I prefer a better separation or texture to identity what I'm pressing, and using these for screenshots is awkward. Thankfully there are several ways to bypass this minor issue. I use my device on a desk and appreciate the front fingerprint scanner location as well.
Hardware:
The inclusion of an ir blaster wasn't a feature I looked for, but find myself using frequently. My daughter constantly leaves the TV remote in odd places and I save stress/time just using my phone instead. I really enjoy the desktop mode, and the added functionality of the usb 3.0.. I travel frequently and am looking forward to leaving the laptop at home. The headphone jack was and is still a main reason I didn't choose the pro model. The rest of the hardware is as described, awesome battery life, great camera and blazingly fast fingerprint scanner..
Software:
Emui is different, not bad, but feels a bit heavy.. I forgive most of this due to its included theming, functions like gesture/voice controls and uniqueness over not just being another "android".. I still threw Nova on it because the stock launcher is too limited (as most stock launchers are). The updates have been regular, no rogue apps eating battery and everything has been super stable. There are flaws though. The non removable battery notifications of heavy apps is annoying, the knuckle gestures (while sometimes useful) rarely work as accurately as I'd like and there is performance optimization problems. I find small lags sometimes while scrolling, slight touch accuracy/unresponsiveness several times (across updates, maybe hardware related), and its aggressive ram/battery management sometimes reloads even single apps..
Being a phone:
At the end of the day this is a phone, and as a phone it works very well. I travel through Paris daily by metro, and signal strength has been good and keeps cellular connection better than my old phone. I don't miss messages or calls, though the mobile data cuts out a bit more than my last device which I find odd.. It'll have reasonable signal but doesn't try to keep poor mobile data connection, maybe to save battery?.. This happens as well with the switch between 2g/3g/4g, often preferring the lower band unless signals are ideal (toggling airplane mode helps coax it to grab the higher band). Call quality has been excellent, loud and no complaints about the microphone output.
Conclusion:
As I've stated, I'm very content, and recommend this device. It's a powerful flagship, great for media consumers, gamers, photo junkies and those who need a bit more productivity out of their device. It has stamina for a full days usage and charges in mere minutes for a few extra hours if needed.. The positives far outweigh any minor annoyances. This is the first device I haven't eagerly wanted to unlock, root and mod..

Not going to rehash what all the previous users have already stated. Even the little quirks can be ironed out with a little research and playing around with the numerous settings. Great phone! Highly recommended. I do believe that after many years of phones going in the opposite direction from what I wanted that I have finally found the one that ticks all the boxes for me! I cannot imagine another phone satisfying me as much...unless Huawei makes another one with all the same ports but with newer SOC's.

Question Thinking about getting the ZenFone 8, is it worth it?

I am thinking about switching phones from my OnePlus 9. I like my OP9, but it is very glitchy for what it is supposed to be and really the only thing that impresses me is the WarpCharge feature. I am very fond of smaller phones, such as the ZenFone 8. I haven't purchased an ASUS device at all before, not even a computer.
Who has it and do you think it is worth even considering? My daily use consists of social media, internet browsing, and watching videos. It is very rarely that I download a game and play it on mobile. I also prefer somewhat swift updates, but have been an avid Motorola user before and was perfectly fine with their update timings.

I'm also in the same boat however 'm using Nord now..not very much satisfied with it..Oneplus really lost its glory now a days . Also 'm looking for compact phones..ZF8 seems to be perfect..would like to hear from real users..

I'm on the same boat except I'm using Xiaomi Mi 9T. Zenfone 8 looks like a perfect phone but I heard the thermals are bad and it gets hot af, like really hot.

I have it and the only down side is standby drain. Even after a few system updates my drain is about 50-100% higher than my op6. It's gotten better since the first version, but still not great.
I love it's form factor, GUI fluidity, Asus apps are great.
I haven't played any games so I can't really say anything about thermals.. never felt any temperature build-up.

The screen isn't the best and the battery drains a bit too quick, but I'd say it's worth it. I like the stock ROM. The power button can be customised to perform two different actions, Game Genie shows CPU, GPU, battery, temperature and FPS, Optiflex speeds up apps and reduces battery usage. Also, didn't expect to find system performance modes, dt2w, dt2s or gestures, which, if drawn while the screen is off, launch apps.

This opinion is very subjective and quite off.
The screen isn't the best? Maybe there are literally few phones with better screens but it's definitely among the very top. No idea what is wrong with it.
Battery drain? I get easily 6h SOT and whole day use. No issues at all. 8h during night eats me like 5-8 percent. The good is that all my smartwatches and earbuds are very stable and I get no disconnections like on Huawei flagship phones.
I can confirm that coming video in bright sun in 30 Celsius gets the phone hot, very hot. I think that's normal. And it's waterproof so I've just taken it underwater for 5s and it was back to normal.
If you can live with the cut out camera - this phone is brilliant.
I was using LG V30 and Huawei Mate 20 before this and I see no downsides. Everything is better than on those two. I like them all.

When I said "not the best" I had two things in mind. First the backlight issue at 60 and 120 Hz. As for the second one, few days ago my Zf8 was on a desk together with my previous phone (Xperia 5 II). I think I had some web pages open on both at the time because the screens were mostly white. When I looked at them while standing and almost at a flat angle, I immediately noticed that the Xperia's screen was white as a sheet of paper, Zenfone's wasn't. I assumed the Xperia's screen can be viewed without distortion at wider angles.
I played one game which is locked at 30 FPS, CPU and GPU usage was 10-30%, temp stayed at 36-37C. Will try something more demanding and see if it can go over 40C during the weekend.
Edit: idle drain 0.5%/h, but Franco Kernel Manager shows 0.28% for some reason

Right now i have a OnePlus 9 Pro and as i really like it I'm kind of done with big smartphones.
As i had the Pixel 5 before i was thinking about going back and then the ZenFone 8 came to my attention.
It's damn ugly but that's something that can be changed with a case or skin.
I'm in doubt about the camera's compared to the Pixel 5 but the reviews I've seen so far seems quite good, not the best but good and comparable to the OnePlus 9.
I also read that Asus's update policy is not very reliable.
Anyone can give their opinion about this parts?
Everything else about this phone seems really good!

After using the zenfone 8 and Pixel 5 I went for the Pixel 5 because of the insanely better battery life than on the zenfone 8
Zenfone 8 had a slightly better camera with gcam but overall I was more impressed with the Pixel 5

It is true that other phones may have better battery, the Mate 20 I have is much better but at the cost of unreliable smart devices connection.
I can't get 2 days of my normal usage out of any phone. If I go hiking and just have the phone with me the Zenfone will also last 2-3 days easily. For me 1 day is the requirement and Zenfone does it easily.
The cameras are really good and with gcam and the right settings in there it gives great, real to life pictures. The super wide camera has the same sensor as Pixel 5. The main and selfie are even better and newer.
And the main thing - here in Poland the Pixel is 290USD more expensive than Asus. At the same price I'd probably buy the Pixel as it is a more established brand and has better support.
People write here that ZF8 can be bad at getting updates but the initial month had 4 updates. Can't see anything wrong here.
If the ZF9 will be the same size and gets the flip camera I will 100% buy it.

Pixel has a different sensor for the ultra wide. For the others i can't comment on that but it seems they are at least very close to each when it comes to picture quality.

It's all personal preference really. I'm a Samsung guy but have been trying other phones because, well, why not. I'm by far not an expert, but I most certainly will share my opinion with you. The wide camera sensor in ZF8 is the same as main in Pixel. At least I read that.

Anything that runs the CPU/GPU high. You have to enable performance mode (or custom mode for max performance/temp limit) to let it get hot though. Case mitigates its feel to an extent.
And it can get burning hot, try it on any 3d game.

That really riddles me. So there are non gaming phones that do not get hot in similar settings? Especially during summer?

Question Panel Gap between Screen and Frame on a brand new S21 Ultra

Hi Guys,
I just purchased a brand new Galaxy S21 Ultra,
I am loving the phone, however I have noticed a gap between the screen and Body of the phone and I can slide a piece of paper through it.
(Pictures attached below)
I am deeply disappointed with this, is this normal?
I previously had the s7 and s9 and both had similar manufacturing flaws, it **bleep** to see that Samsung Quality control has still not changed over the years.
Is this a problem? Shall this affect the water resistance of the phone or is this normal?
Please help and give your feedbacks

I'm able to slide a paper in between the front and back glass and the frame too. I guess it's by design...? Never really noticed it in all these months till you pointed it out and frankly, even after seeing it now, it doesn't bother me. I guess some clearance is required between the brittle glass and the metal frame to prevent stress fractures of the glass when the frame deforms under stress, like @adamlee2012 said in his post.

I'm not sure if this will be accepted by Samsung as a valid reason for replacement. But if you're unhappy, by all means try to get a replacement or refund. It's your money, and you should be fully satisfied with what you bought with it, especially for this kind of asking price.
If the gap is giving you sleepless nights, better to get it replaced, or refund to get another phone. If I were you, I'd leave it alone. But it's your decision.

Well I purchased it off Amazon and I can return it for a refund, however the problem is due to the semi conductor chip shortage, there are no phones in stock, I had to wait for 2 months to get this device, now if I return it I don't know when the next one will come.
Also I am concerned that what if the replacement phone has wider gaps, I mean if this is normal and every device has it then it makes no sense to return it, am I right?

Welcome to 4 years ago.

There is an app here in the s21U forum that checks the waterproofness of the device by asking you to press the screen hard so the app can check the internal pressure sensors.
It is made with the purpose of checking if the phones seals have worn out.
If yours is fine then you should probably just wear a case on the phone and move on

I did use the app, it uses the barometer to gauge if the water seal is broken or not.
However I do not know how accurate it is.
My phone passed the test though

I don't have this gap on my S21U Silver.
Everything is like molded and glued together

Well you already submerged the phone into water for 10 mins and all was fine so I see no reason to worry. The test must be accurate.
Honestly, given how tough it is to get a phone like that today, best case is to just put a cover on it and forget about the gap.
Unless you wanna try and go to the seller and ask for a new pone and see what they have to say. Soon new, or not...?

I purchased it from Amazon and I gave only return it for a refund as they do not have any stock for a replacement, I waited for this phone itself for 1 month or so.
Also the phone is heating a lot and the battery life sucks. I have the Exynos variant. The ideal temperature is 35-38*C with some camera usage it goes up to 45 *C. Don't know if that's normal or what
My battery is showing learning usage pattern and it's on day 3.
So I'm really confused

If you can get a refund for it then that's not bad. Don't know where you live but it might be best to consider buying it locally if it exists in any shop near you.

I live in India, the only feasible and best way to purchase it is via Amazon as they have a return period of 7 days if I purchase it from Samsung or any other local shop, there return period is max 24 hours which sucks.
I love the phone, love everything about it and especially now with the new iPhone out, I can still say that this crushes it, there is no other viable contender for it out there.
I can get it refunded and wait for the next bunch of stock, perhaps that might take another 10-15 days or a month due to the semi conductor shortage issue otherwise I can just keep this phone and use it however it pisses me off that inspire of paying 1200$ for it. There are such manufacturing flaw.
Also I forgot to ask and You didn't mention, does your phone have similar gaps where you can slide a piece of paper with ease?

I can get it refunded and wait for the next bunch of stock, perhaps that might take another 10-15 days or a month due to the semi conductor shortage issue otherwise I can just keep this phone and use it however it pisses me off that inspire of paying 1200$ for it. There are such manufacturing flaw.
Also I forgot to ask and You didn't mention, does your phone have similar gaps where you can slide a piece of paper with ease?

It is an annoying situation indeed... Mine doesn't have the gaps, no. It is the silver exynos 256gb.
I'd say this is a rare issue and getting another phone would 99.9% be gapless... 24h is enough to test it throughly as well, so... Definitely consider it.
It also beats the new iPhone and that's a fact.

Yeah that truly sucks.
My phone just finished the battery learning usage calibrating and I'm getting around 5.5hrs of SOT which is horrible compared to what others are getting and all the reviews out there.
I'm using adaptive 120hz refresh, wifi and 4g on, light surfing usage + Bluetooth on and always connected to the watch + WQHD enabled
Is this battery life normal? how much of SOT are you getting?
I was shocked to see that some people got 8-10 hrs of SOT while I only get the half

I'm getting around 6 hours of SOT with one and a half days of mixed usage. All features of the phone enabled. I'm happy with it.
There are users on XDA who've reported 8-10 hours of SOT but I've never been able to achieve that routinely. I have managed to reach 8hrs of SOT a couple of times, but I had to disable 4G, use only wifi, disable background sync, not use my Galaxy Watch, not open any app that used camera, stay in dark mode with low screen brightness, automatic brightness disabled etc etc to achieve that.
I didn't like the experience so decided to use the phone to it's fullest capability and forget about SOT as long as I got through to my bedtime.
I used to feel envious of these people initially, wondering why my phone didn't get insane SOT but after a few months of using this phone, I just don't care anymore, as I get to the end of my typical day with half the battery remaining.
Everyone has a different usage pattern, so battery life can vary wildly. If you're unhappy, you can try to disable some features, try debloating etc to try to improve it and see how it goes for you

I also can get about 6h sot with everything enabled including AOD. I spare nothing and 5-6h SOT is more than enough.
It easily lasts a day and that does it for me.
All the people showing how they got 8h+ SOT are basically using the phone at a very limited capacity. Lowering everything to show others how much SOT u got, is similar to cheating in a game. It's not realistic.
Your s21u is better than anything else u even had n the past. it is okay that the SOT is less than some other phones, they don't have what ur phone has.
So enjoy and don't overthink it.

I get 5.5hrs max of SOT with screen on QHD+ 120hz enabled, wifi connected and galaxy watch connected. I have been trying to limit background apps an so but can't survive for more than 5.5hrs.
Max my phone lasts is for 18-19hrs with 5.5hrs of SOT.
I have gone through several reviews of people claiming 8hrs+
I don't even have heavy usage, all I use is WhatsApp, YouTube and chrome and a bit of Facebook.
Considering how light the usage is surely the battery life sucks?
As enigmaamit above also said that he has mixed usage and still gets 6+ hrs and mine is light usage and it still struggles so I wonder is this normal?

There are too many variables into the equation...
FB uses plenty of battery for one.
Two, maybe where you are, your phone isn't catching great signal. usually when that happens, it drains the battery as the device is constantly trying to get better signal.
Maybe since you are not rooted you have plenty of bloatware that is draining your battery.
Additionally, putting usused apps to sleep, adaptive battery being ON, and also maybe you are using white mode instead of dark mode. Dark mode saves plenty of battery on our amoled screens.
Also I am rooted. So no bloatware. Battery fully calibrated. No draining apps. I use FB trough my KIWI browser with dark mode on for all pages.
If you get a full day, you are good.
