Hell no to this bezeless trend
This is ugly. Squeeze and fingerprint sensor on the back are pointless and annoying, and while you could potentially disable the former, later is a physical obstacle.
I'll be okay with bezelless phones when they'll have the FP sensor under the display. But I'm not going back to having it on the back.
I agree ... finger print sensor on the back is just stupid!

It's a question of getting used too, it, loved it on the back on the G6 and Honor 8 but on the front it's good too.
Hang tight, for the OP6
Bezeless phone can have issue with single hand operation. The sensor, when you touch the other side of the screen using your thumb, would be tricked because the other screen where your palm is resting will sense the body of your thumb finger. That is why little bezel is enuf. Thats based on my idea. Unless the manufacturer make a bypass precisely.

So, just to be clear, it looks like one type of phone and you'd prefer it to mimic another type of phone?

Are you just trolling?
Removing the 3.5 jack by Apple was nothing but a cash grab. Period. There's a reason high end Bose, Senheiser, Shure, Sony headphones come with an analog connector.
Bluetooth connection is inferior in sound quality, requires me to have to charge one more thing, and carry around an additional dongle to listen to music. Or buy another adapter to charge and listen to music at the same time.
If you want to use type c headphones, use them. There is literally nothing stopping you man..
But don't screw up what the high majority of others have been using and still want since before the Zune/iPod/Walkman.
I could see somebody making an argument about its outdated tech, which is arguable. But so is a ruler, but we people use that daily across the world..
What are some of the the reasons why you don't want a headphone jack?
You've posted pictures about the u11 pixel look alike, and I ask, what would it have cost Google/HTC to include a headphone jack on the top? While still retaining that awesome boomsound those speakers at the bottom have? Maybe an extra dollar on a phone that already is going to cost 800+

I just need a little something to hold onto though while gaming. If this is the forced eventuality, low bezels, I prefer the G6 approach over the s8. I can still protect my screen with the G6, unlike the S8. First time that thing falls, say goodbye to that beautiful edge glass phone.

The speaker is decent. It even has good volume.
Iff you've got the tablet facing away from you!
This is really terrible placement of the speaker on this device. It's not a speaker for ringing as on a phone. It's a speaker that's meant to be heard when the tablet is in use with the display facing you. Cupping my hand over the speaker slit and extending that beyond the edge of the tablet works ... but isn't something you can really expect or want to do.
That's probably my biggest gripe with the tablet.
The screen isn't the best but.. I'll take it for the money.
Really, you don't like the screen? I think it has a better color tone than the iPad 3 honestly. Didn't really notice much of a difference in the resolution either.
The external sound's not too bad. If you put it on a surface then it helps amplify it, just like with a phone. The headphone sound quality on the other hand is outstanding! :good:
I wish manufacturers would figure out a way to have forward-facing speakers... my G2x has a speaker on the bottom. Better, but seriously... watching a YouTube clip without cupping my hand around the device to reflect the sound to my face would be a nice change. Meh... not that big of a deal to me but I do agree with your frustration.
It seems simple to me, there is already a bevel on these devices. They just need to make the bevel a little bit larger on the side to let the sound out. This is what my TV does and it works very well.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2
I was looking at the design and from a "why did they do it that way?" perspective and two things are clear.
1. they want to present the face of the tablet as an unbroken sheet of glass (ohh, ahh!)
2. they don't want to incur the cost of putting a slit in the glass
They could reduce the size of the glass and have a very narrow molded plastic border on the top and bottom for stereo speakers. Would work a heck of a lot better but violate #1...
I really think they're destroying functionality for aesthetics.
Playbook (though bigger) does have forward facing speakers, and are probably the best sound that I've heard on a tablet mainly due to the placement.
its more so because on most phones, the microphone is at the bottom. putting a speaker next to a microphone never ends well. mainly because on calls where you use loud speaker, you'd get the endless loop/echo where the speaker feeds their audio back into the microphone. noise cancelling mics are useless for cancelling the audio since the noise cancelling mic is too far away from the speaker, so the latency doesnt help.
I somehow think putting a magnet aka speaker on the screen would cause problems with the capacitive touch.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
It sucks when you put the 7 on a stand and it is blocking the speaker and muffing the sound. But what can you do? Plug in some headphones that's what.

Wait. What?! Can you provide a photo comparison of your device next to a iPad. This display has hardly any saturation or contrast compared to the iPad. The DAC in this thing is also horrid; audio sounds extremely bad with headphones. A world away from the Galaxy S III DAC.

Well, I have both an iPad 3 and a Nexus 7, and while I like the Nexus 7 screen well enough, it doesn't really compare to the iPad's. Colors and saturation aren't even close, and nothing has text as good as the iPad (I think it's as much to do with how Android renders text as the resolution of the LCD). Don't get me wrong, text on the Nexus 7 is plenty good enough, but you can't say it's nearly as good as on the iPad.
My biggest problem with audio on the Nexus 7, both external and via headphones, is volume. It just doesn't get very loud. That's a complaint with the iPad 3, however, and really I have yet to come across a tablet with decent sound. So, that's not a fair knock against the Nexus 7.
Hi Guys,
I picked up my Nexus 4 from O2 here in the UK this morning, for what it's worth here are my initial thoughts.
I'm coming from a Galaxy Nexus.
As per all the professional reviews, it does seem like a well made piece of kit. The glass back while being another fingerprint magnet is
a nice touch. When moving the phone suddenly or shaking the phone it does rattle. I took it back to O2 and they all the Nexus 4's they had in stock did it. It's loud enough to be noticeable, but not so loud i wanted my money back. The stores explanation was the accelerometer. I'm sure others will shed more light on this in time.
While the screen is crisp it is not as striking as some reviews would have me believe on auto brightness it is pretty dark (Much darker than my gnex on auto)
The sound is excellent but it does suffer from a muffled almost inaudible speaker when the phone is on the side face up on my desk. This has been a gripe of mine on previous phones.
Swipe style typing works really well, as does the new camera software. The pictures are a huge leap up from the Gnex
Battery needs further testing but so far has performed well. Wi Fi also has a FAR better range than the Gnex
My closing thoughts would be if coming from the Galaxy Nexus it may not be a huge leap up for you. If money is an issue i would wait....
But if you are an early adopter i'm sure you will love it.
I'm sorry it's a brief review, i'm no Shakespeare. If anyone has any specific questions though i would be happy to answer.

As per what was said above, it's underneath the glass. I was worried about it looking tacky. But it works well. Hold the phone one way and the back is pure black, then you tilt it and you get the speckle effect. Muck like a hologram on a bank card.
The rattling isn't fine, something is loose or not fit right.

I took it back to the store, they had 5 in stock. All 5 rattled (As crazy as it sounds i wanted to test all of them)
For anyone familiar with the problems on the Sony NEX 5N camera 'Clicking' it's a bit like that.
I have 28 days if it is deemed 'faulty' but until more info comes out on it i'm going to hold on to the phone.
If 5 out of 5 do it i would presume a huge number if not all will, that said i'm surprised it wasn't picked up in any of the reviews.
As google begin to deliver time will tell.

About 12 based on Anandtech's review.
How much would you rate it after buying the phone?
I think this will be my new smart phone when I upgrade my contract. But my concern is, as the title states, it's unibody's quality. The iphone5 was a failure.
For those lucky enough on xda that has the phone, your thoughts?
The issues with the iphone were evident straightaway from what I can recall..
This has been around for almost a month.. reviews have had it. No real issues.
Don't own one so cant give you a first hand account though.

Definately better than my iPhone 5. The only minor issue I have is that the headphone jack is a little fringed (really, not much, but it bothered me )... but I solved that issue with a scalpel But that's not a problem with the unibody... the aluminium is absolutely flawless.

I raised a thread on the Q&A thread. Some ONEs are coming with tiny nicks on the bezel edges of the aluminium, and one poster already said their Mrs managed to damage the metalwork edge just with her fingernail. So I have no doubt its better than iPhone 5...but aluminium is a soft metal.

HA! That's what I thought at first too.
I vote with 5th option: It's a phone ... as long as it has screen and speakers I'm happy.
These comments though :'D Anyway, the screen seems great to me but the display's white balance varies from phone to phone. The speakers are good enough for me. You really don't need louder speakers and right now only One M8 has louder speakers as far as I know.

I arrived at this phone from the LG G2 (which I still have, so have seen side by side) and I'm really quite pleased with the screen. I mean I'm aware that it is technically a downgrade but I honestly don't notice it during use in the slightest. The speakers also seem comparable really and I have no complaints but to be honest I use Bluetooth speakers alot and probably don't look for sound quality out of the phones speakers. Anyway, that's my experiences! ?
Is anyone else having an issue with no sound coming from the bottom left speaker? I tried a sound test on Youtube and the top and bottom right speakers work. When something that should be playing out of the left, it just plays through the other two speakers. I also went into accessibility settings and set audio to play only from the left and it still only plays out the right and top speakers.
Try an audio track where you know where a particular sound should be.. left or right speaker...
Not a you tube track tho..
