[Q] Various questions / doubts concerning the i9000

Hi everyone,
I have since a week a Samsung Galaxy S (I9000) and I find it a bit different from my previous device (HTC Desire GSM), so I am having some question and doubts concerning what I have done so far on the phone after reading many threads in this great forum.
First of all, when I got the phone, it had an operator layer, so I wanted it to have a completely stock rom. Hence, I flashed using Odin the phone using those files:
CODE_I9000XXJVU_CL851880_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar
GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar
The android version I have now is the 2.3.6, but I find it a bit (a lot) laggy, so I was wondering if this ROM is actually a stable ROM or a development ROM, perhaps can you help me choosing a more stable stock firmware?
Also, I am also having some concerns with rooting the phone. In fact, when I had my HTC Desire, there was mostly one method to root the phone (the most common method let's say) using unRevoked. But now I got really lost with the Galaxy S as the methods for rooting seem not only to be numerous, but to depend on the firmware I actually have on the phone. So I flashed a file in my phone that rooted the phone, but it seems to have a moded kernel with it. The file I used is the following:
CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS

So I am wondering if there is actually another method to root the phone that does not involve flashing a custom firmware?
Also, I might go back to a MIUI ROM, but I wonder if by flashing another ROM with ClockWorkMod recovery, it will replace my actual kernel (which would be great) ?
I'd like to use the phone for a while using a rooted stock rom, with no alterations nor modifications; and then I will go back to using a MIUI ROM. So can you please help me with my doubts; I really don't like no knowing what I am really putting into my phone so I don't want to spend a week doing trial and error
Thank you all in advance and please forgive my noobism
If you flash a new ROM the kernel should be replaced but I don`t know for sure if it`s he same on Samsung like on HTC. I rooted my i9000 with unlockroot( just google for it) and the phone is stock rooted and I flashed speedmod kernel with heimdall in order to have CWM so I don`t have stock kernel either.
Thank you for your answer !
What android version do you have on your galaxy ? 2.3.6 ? Is it smooth ?
Perhaps I will try MIUI to check how it works on this device (it worked great on my HTC Desire with lower tech specs )

[Q] Getting Cyangonmod on my Note

Hey all
going to be a bit of a db one, but I pretty much just want either links to guides, or a list of processes to get my note onto Cyanogen Mod 10.1, I don't want any custom kernals or anything, just a custom recovery and a custom rom on my phone before I go on
I flashed before using odin to sort out a update problem after my 4.0 ota screwed
I also flashed clockwork mod onto my galaxy s + back in the day so I am custom to software like this
Phone details
Vodafone N 7000 running 4.1.2
never touched anything before modding wise minus the stock reflash after 4.0 ota screw up
sooo pretty much, is it just a case of flash clockwork mod in odin then flash rom, or do I need anything else?

Please help, im having problem flashing ROMs

Hi everyone, I hope someone could help me with my problem.. So here's the thing, I have an S3 Mini (yeah is 2015 and i still using that POS phone (piece of...) but I live in Venezuela and unless you're rich or sucking the [email protected]$ of someone in the goverment, buying a new phone these day's it's almost impossible).. Getting back to topic, I want to flash a different rom than the stock one, I have my eyes on a MIUI one a saw the other day (yeah I like MIUI) and here's the problem, I tried to flash other ROM's before even that MIUI one that i just tould you about, and every time the phone do the first run with the ROM the Back and Menu buttons simply doesn't work at all, only the home button.. I already read other post of people with the almost the same problem but still can't find any answer, so I hope that this time is different.. What I did find was that the problem is and im almost sure that that's the problem, is with the kernel, because every ROM that I flashed is based on android 4.4.4 and with a custom kernel, and ofcourse my phone is stock with the stock kernel, here's some stuff you may want to know:
Model N°
GT-I8190
Android Version
4.1.2
Base Band Version
I8190XXAMG4
Kernel Version
3.0.31-1332988
[email protected] #2
SMP PREEMPT Sun Jul 28 14:54:47 KST 2013
Compilation Number
JZO54K.I8190XXAMG4
You may want to know that i have the phone rooted and with a custom recovery (TWRP 2.8.0.0) and all of that i did it without ODIN or Kies, for rooting i don't remember exactly what i used, but i think it was and apk that comes from here on XDA, that roots the phone with one click, and it worked because since then i never had any issues.. And for the custom recovery I think i flash it via Download mode or something like that.. The thing is that i don't remember at all using Odin or something for doing any of that (rooting, recovery and flashing a ROM).
So can you help me? do i need to use Odin to flash that MIUI rom in order to avoid getting my Back and Menu buttons damage? or what can I do? I really want that ROM I hate the stock one (i honestly hate Samsung but im stuck with this phone for now -.-)
Thank you! and yeah sorry for bad english blah blah, is not my first lenguage

HELP needed (can't flash stock rom)

Galaxy Note 5 SM-N920G I need some help here. After a long time using custom roms, recently I've tried to flash a stock rom to my device (it was an Indian nougat rom from sammobile) and I got an error on Odin when flashing system. After that I lost my recovery (TWRP) an my Note 5 went only in download mode. Then a I flashed TWRP again and installed a custom rom again. Now I'm trying to flash any stock rom and I am getting random errors like "device 1 binary 0". I've tried many different roms and 0 luck. Someone could help me here? I never have this problem before and I just don't know more what to do.

Peace..
I'm having the same exact problem--I found firmware that only flashed to radio--then abruptly stopped--wiping my system, so i'm stuck in download mode, phone will not power off. Instead of flashing Nougat ROM, i opted to flash "stock" MM firmware (6.01) and let phone update to Nougat on its on---then re-root it. As of now I have a paper-weight and it appears there's no support for 920G
Have you all tried Smart Switch?

Paper-weight? That's bad... Can't you flash a custom recovery on Odin and install a custom rom? I still can do that.

It's because you flashed Nougat and that's Android 7.0 and it now thinks you're trying to "downgrade", which is pretty much blocked by trying to use "stock" roms.. The only thing you could probably do is find the stock rom you're interested in flashing but make sure it can be flashed via TWRP.. I don't think you can use Odin now to flash backwards "downgrade" to another stock rom after flashing Nougat 7.0..

Good catch, I hadn't even thought of that.

Well I figured out you can downgrade from Nougat to Marshmallow but that's only to a specific firmware version. Depending upon what bootloader has been flashed (meaning if you flashed Nougat bootloader you can only go back to Marshmallow with the same bootloader level).. But this is only working (surprisingly) on the locked bootloaders of Verizon and AT&T.. The other S6 Edge Plus I have with an unlocked bootloader and tripped knox that I recently acquired will not accept nothing stock which is unusual, but I'm still working on that one.

How Can I Add Custom ROM/TWRP for AT&T

Hey,
So I have been reading around on this but wanted to ask here to be sure.
I have a Galaxy Note 5 AT&T version. Which is the N920A model. From what I can see flashing this with TWRP or adding a custom ROM onto it isn't possible? Is that correct? If that isn't correct I'd love to get the proper files and directions on how to do that. I was able to flash an updated stock rom (samsung stock) using ODIN which makes me think flashing a custom one is possible but don't want to brick device.
My plan was to flash this ROM onto it (https://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/development/rom-pixel-rom-t3570393). Is this the best ROM to flash if I'm wanting a more stock experience without Samsungs and AT&Ts crap added to it? Is there a better choice?
Thanks.
