How to set default SIM when connected to car Bluetooth? - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Is there any way by which I can set a default SIM for calls when connected to car Bluetooth. When I try to make a handsfree call using Google Assistant, it fails because I haven't set default SIM for calls. I want to set default SIM for calls only when connected to car Bluetooth.
Can anyone help me with this?

You should be able to work around this missing feature using Tasker automation, I haven't had the energy to try it out yet, but since you can automate almost anything else using Tasker I don't see why this wouldn't be possible with some automation hacking/scripting. ?

I am pretty new to Tasker. As of now I have not done a single tasker task on my own. I wanted to know if anything was readily available to accomplish this. Will try to do something.

You can check the app called Dual SIM Selector. According to the screenshots in the Google Play store, you can select what SIM to use for calls when connected via Bluetooth.

Unfortunately Dual SIM selector is not compatible with OnePlus 3T. Also the app is not supported in India.

It seems Tasker does not have an option to control SIM.

I believe this app has Tasker integration: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pt.joaormf.mtkcontrol.free
No idea if it works (hasn't been updated in a while).

So i have always been fine by turning on the automatic selection. Ensuring Manual selection is also on for those not in my automatic groups.
It works flawlessly outside the car. I do now and then get some oddness happening inside the car. Now this Beta room does have the option in sim options for "smart callback" which has seemed to work as well. However I haven't tried that one in the car. I will later though.
Edit: using Smart Callback instead of Dual Sim Selector for now

Is there a way to auto turn-on hotspot when Bluetooth device is connected?

Hi,
Is there an app that will auto start tethering when it detects a bluetooth connection? I have used Trigger with my previous SM-G925I and it was working great but it is not capable of toggling the hotspot on the T-Mobile device (SM-G920T)
I need this because I want to use it in my car so whenever i enter my car it would auto turn on.
Any sggestions will be appreciated.

Yes. Download Macrodroid and setup a macro beginning with bluetooth as the trigger. Lots of other great macros you can setup as qell.
Tasker?
The IF app might also work

Turn on/off mobile hotspot

I know I cannot be the first to ask this but I cannot find a good answer. I have a verizon phone and I tried to create a tasker action to turn on the mobile hotspot and it fails. I used the wifi tether option. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this to work?
I'm pretty sure toggling radios needs root? I can't seem to find it right now, but there should be a "use root" checkbox somewhere in the action edit.
Can anyone confirm this? My Motorola Turbo 2 never had a root solution. Believe me I've been waiting 2 years for one.

I just setup a simple profile to test this. I had tasker turn the hotspot at a certain time. No issues, root wasn't needed(doesn't even give option to use it). What conditions are you using to turn it on?

I can't find the "use root" setting in mine...actually I can't find it in any of my profiles/actions, which is weird because I know I used it for something .
I've been using this for awhile to connect to my car head unit (Honor 6X/Cricket Wireless):
Profile State BT Connected CAR KIT ==> Action WiFi Tether Set On
with an exit task to turn WiFi back on/hotspot off when the BT connection drops.
Well, I am using Verizon Jetpack mobile WiFi Hotspot device and it's working pretty fine. I have it for 6 months now.

All u have to do is make the profile task and tap play button. That way it will tell you if Tasker is denied/granted SuperSU rights. No need to install secure settings anymore. Just tap Grant to SuperSU. Also, check your SuperSU app as sometimes it denies Tasker automatically

When BT Connected, Turn on WiFi HotSpot

Hello All,
Looking for a solution to the title. Need to make my phone turn on WiFi HotSpot when it connects to the Bluetooth in my car. I tried this with Tasker and a guide I found online, but it fails and says error executing action: WiFi Tether.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
OP, I've tried to replicate the problem and it seems that the app doesn't have the proper permissions. Although all app permissions are enabled in the app settings, I think it's missing an additional permission. See screenshot below. You might want to contact support for the app to get the issue resolved.
As for a work around, it may be possible to do what you want with NFC stickers.

Yep, same thing I was getting. None of the automation apps for this particular scenario that exist on the Play Store work either. SecureSettings plugin for Tasker also will not enable WiFi Hotspot. Seems to be by design. I'm just going to go the NFC route since there is a particular spot I put my phone in the car every time. Thanks for the reply!

NFC will not turn on WiFi Tether it's an issue with the app not requesting the permission or Something with the Samsung Software. I had an LG G6 and it was working fine. The way I resolved my issue I use autoinput. Now it's working fine. see the attached:

I did it backward this time. I created the task first and then I create the profile. I use the state connect to BT to trigger the profile. Also it's very important that you enable smart lock, so your car BT can disable the lock screen and autoinput can do the job. You would need to buy the full version of autoinput since the lite version won't work.

automatically unlock phone when connected to car

The goal: if my phone is connected to my car (and the car is turned on), unlock it automatically.
I keep a spare phone in my car connected to Android Auto (and hidden) so I don't have to keep plugging in my more expensive phone daily. Since it is also connected to my carrier and google accounts, I lock the phone. I have SmartUnlock set to keep the phone unlocked when bluetooth is connected to my car. This works for keeping the phone unlocked once unlocked, but it does not unlock the phone. I still have to do that manually with my fingerprint or passkey. Any idea how to automatically unlock the phone when connected to the car (and the car is on)? If my car is broken into and the phone is stolen I want the phone to remain locked. I am going to take the risk that if the keys are present (thus the car is on and the phone is connected to bluetooth & via cable), it's ok to unlock the phone automatically. If someone steals my car with the phone, then I'm screwed. But I'll take that risk.
Basically here is the problem with the built-in auto-unlock (from official instructions):
Important: When you don't use your device for 4 hours, and after it restarts, you'll need to unlock it.
Which means almost every time I use my car!
I've also tried google assistant voice unlock, but that only works if I don't have another lock method in place, which is not safe.
In case it matters, the spare phone is a Moto X4 with Oreo, not rooted. I'm on Google Project Fi, which allows multiple data-only SIMs on the same account. I have my voice SIM in the Android Auto phone and a data-only SIM in my main phone that is not directly supported by Project Fi.

Sadly, unlocking the phone is not one of the supported actions of this app.
Did you consider a different approach? Like using AAGateway ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...droid-3-0-proxy-gateway-android-auto-t3813163 ) for wireless AA connection?
It's the solution I use. I have an S4 mini running CM13 permanently connected to the car, only running AAGateway. No Google account and no other apps.
Using Automate scripts on both master and slave so AA connection starts automatically when I enter the car.
Android can do this already. Trusted Devices. Bt unlocks your phone when the trusted Bt device connects.

That's intriguing, but it doesn't solve everything I need in the spare phone.
1. The spare phone acts as a spare - if I forget or lose my phone, I can grab the spare phone from the car. Happens about once per month.
2. My main phone is not Project Fi compatible, and thus only works on LTE, no voice. I can use Hangouts Dialer to manually dial numbers for VoLTE, but that doesn't work through Android Auto. My cheap spare phone is Project Fi compatible and can dial voice via Android Auto.
3. My main phone is rooted and thus there is a thing or two it can't do - if I need to do those things, I can grab the spare phone (though admittedly playing PokemonGo is the only thing falling into that category thus far).
So the spare phone stays - I just need it to auto-unlock when I turn on the car.
Did you solve this? I have exactly the same problem. I need to have my phone unlock automatically when linked to my car bt. Not just stay unlocked, but actually unlock when connected.

The problem stays. If the profile runs, tasker will be set as default input method.
Is it possible to create an new task if the bluetooth connection get lost?
I've tried it with "Input" + "Choose Input Method" but I have no glue what has to be entered there.

Automatically turn on mobile hotspot when phone connnects to a bluetooth device

I've been trying to look for a simple solution to automatically turn on my Note 9's mobile hotspot when I get into my car. Unfortunately, I can't find any reliable working solutions. Especially, since it's impossible to root my phone (Verizon). I tried Macrodroid. The method it provides seems to only support old phones from a few years ago.
Are there any clever ways at all to automatically turn on the mobile hotspot on my phone when I go into my car? I don't mind occasionally manually turn on the hotspot. However, it's not a reasonable solution to manually turn on the mobile hotspot every single time I get into my car.

Thanks for the quick reply back. I was under the impression that Tasker can't do this anymore on newer Android OS's (8.1 and newer); at least, not on Samsung phones.. even with the "Nougat+ Tasker Tethering Control" plugin.
Has something changed that allows Tasker to work? Is there a new beta that allows this without rooting? If so, could you please point me to the URL that talks about this? I couldn't find it.

Hmm... doing this manually every single time isn't really feasible for me. It would be no different than toggling the mobile hotspot via the notification bar or telling Bixby to turn it on/off... it's still a manual process that I'm bound to forget to do.

I just set up a quick Tasker task to see if hotspot would turn on and it does, I'm not rooted.
This can be done with tasker, but I'm not sure it will work with the screen off (perhaps tasker can turn on the screen, though).
Create a task that does the following:
1. Turn off wifi
2. Launch Bixby voice (the 2nd entry)
3. Use autoinput to tap the keyboard icon at bottom left once Bixby voice is open.
4. Type "enable mobile hotspot".
I haven't yet found a better way to have tasker access Bixby for sending commands. Perhaps there's an intent or something we could use.
EDIT: I just tried creating a quick command, and using the Bixby button while screen off, was prompted to unlock the phone first. It would be amazing to utilize Bixby with Tasker, without unlocking the screen. Anyways, good luck.
Tasker is able to turn WiFi hotspot on perfectly with the screen off. No need to mess with Bixby.
If you're not using pie, Samsung good lock 2018 has "routines". I use for sounds profiles entering and exiting the work bubble.

The point for me was that it was automated, the Bixby button does work, but its just as fast in that case to pull down your notification shade and toggle it yourself. I just posted a response to someone else, Good Lock, Routines is the answer. See above.
