Updating my rooted (using pph's super-bootimg) Nexus 6. - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there! I'm currently on 6.0.1 (build MOB31E) and would like to update to the latest version of Android available for this phone, which I believe to be 7.1.1. So if I have flashed phh's super-bootimg, can I just flash the system.img from the latest factory image to go up to the latest version? Or is there other things I'd need to do? Maybe flash the radio? Or the bootloader?

Flash system, boot, radio and bootloader. After that just root your phone again.

Thank you!

Just for clarity, radio is not required. They are interchangeable between releases.

But presumably the newer radio offer some improvement, no? Or better question: It would get updated with an OTA, right?

Yes, it would get updated with an OTA. No, it doesn't guarantee an improved experience. There's a thread here for recovery flashable radios which makes it easier to find which radio works best for your location/carrier.

Oh cool. Thank you! How would I determine which one is best for me though? Just signal strength measurements?

It's mostly trial and error. You get to one you're happy with, then maybe test a new release occasionally. If there's not a functional difference that you notice, use the newest that gives you good coverage and data speeds. It's all very dependant on your location (matters much less in NYC than Podunk Florida) and carrier.
Read through that thread. It's discussed over and over ?.

Why would/should I flash my radio?

I just don't get it, why does the radio need to be flashed? Doesn't the stock work the same as others? TIA
Location location location. Some people find that certain radios work better in their area than others.
For the average consumer the stock radio works just fine.
Whatever you do you make sure to never pull the battery when flashing a radio update otherwise you will become the proud owner of an official android paperweight

not completely true...Some radio changes allow better compatibility with OS updates. The G1 had an updated radio for 1.5 and Froyo comes with a new radio for the nexus with updated encoding/multimedia management handlers

[ROM] Stock Sense/Froyo v3.21.605.1 *Official* (Rooted, Odexed OR Deodexed) [9/30/10]

This is a rooted ROM built off the official HTC Sense/Froyo v3.21.605.1 release (pulled from signed RUU). As of 9/30/2010, this build remains the most recent official release for the Droid Incredible from HTC/Verizon. If you are looking for a completely untouched ROM with only the changes necessary to sustain root access, this thread is for you.
ROM Details:
Completely unmodified (odexed version) and sourced from RUU_Incredible_C_Froyo_VERIZON_WWE_3.21.605.1_Radio_2.15.00.07.28_2k4k_NV_1.50_PRL58006_release_143351_signed.exe.
Includes all system components and full boot image.
Rooted with Superuser 2.3.6.1.
Absolutely nothing removed.
Odexed (untouched) and deodexed (suitable for mods/themes) both available.
Installation:
You must be rooted, have nand unlocked and be running a 2.x radio. Follow dadicus' guide for details on how to perform these steps.
Perform a nandroid backup of your current ROM, in case you change your mind or encounter issues.
Apply the zip via Clockwork Recovery. It has not been tested with any other recovery.
If you are coming from another completely stock ROM (i.e. Sense 2.1 or 2.2), you may not have to wipe data. I obviously recommend wiping data (since it will eliminate any possibly bad/stale configuration), but the update script will not do so automatically during installation. Use your best judgement to determine what works best for you.
Disclaimer
As with any modification (ROM, patch, etc), you run the risk of damaging your device. While unlikely, it is important to consider this possibility before proceeding. I take no responsibility for any such damage, data loss or otherwise.
Changelog
Version R2 Odexed, R3 Deodexed (9/30/2010):
Fixed boot.img ramdisk to set ro.secure=1 and persist.service.adb.enable=1.
Updated Superuser to 2.3.6.1.
Deodex fixes for Teeter and Camera app missing shutter audio.

This has to be the official OTA
I looked at this pic

The pic states 3.21.605.1 is the version they are pushing.

I agree but until it's being pushed by Verizon I didn't want to make a claim I couldn't be absolutely certain is correct.
Downloading to my phone now. This is reversible to a previous nandroid update without issues right? Since it's just boot and system img? Both which are backed up by nandroid. I'm already running 2.15 radio.

Yes, no reason a restore wouldn't work just like any other rom.

Thanks!!
50% downloaded over Verizon 3G. Find it funny I'm downloading a leaked ROM over Verizon's network.
ARGGHHH!!!!! I HATE VERIZON RIGHT NOW.
Wife called so it switched to 1XRTT and stopped the data connection. Couldn't resume. There's 80MB down the tubes...starting over again.
ARGGHHH!!
So here's the million dollar question, did they fix the charging/battery drain issues?
Can you post just the radio update that is part of the RUU?
-Robert
is there any advantage of doing this the long way? via PB31IMG to update the Hboot to .92? I'm happy with the last leak at the moment but dont know how the hboot update will effect anything
flashing this as I type and will give follow up.
Thanks man. This makes things easy.
First off, I'd like to thank rmk40 for throwing this together as fast as he did.
And, just an honest question looking for an honest answer.

Yes. As soon as it's ready I'll provide two versions of the package -- one dexoded and one not.
Is it possible to host this elsewhere, for better download speeds?
To those who are running this:
What's the difference between this and the 8/1 leak? Other than the latter being deodexed.
Thanks!

A few informations..

Hi,
I recently switched from a Xperia X10 to the Nexus One due to the lack of update from Sony Ericsson.
We can't unlock the bootloader the X10 so even if I flashed a lot of custom rom and root ect... It's my first time with kernels ect...
So I was wondering on how the kernel is important and if I well understood, he is the one that will put the driver for the hardware as it's the one that can increase audio and put 720p ect..
And I also see a lots of threads about radios ect... I totally understood how to flash it ect.. but what is it exactly ? Is it like a better frequence for your antenna or ??
I'm currently running kernel version : [email protected] and baseband version : 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2 and I have Passion Recovery.
Could you please indicate me a good combo of kernel/radio/rom that would give me 720p, running at least Froyo or Gingerbread (for flash) and that is stable with a good linpack/quadrant score.
Thanks in advance,
Zyryck
Simplest thing for you, CyanogenMod 6. It is FroYo, has the audio mod and 720p camera kernel. And you should already have the best Radio.
There is no reason to really mix and match stuff at all. The state of the development scene isn't that way anymore.
Some people do fiddle with kernels and Korean radios and such, but they do it because they like doing that sort of thing, not because they have to.
90% do not have to worry about those things. Install CyanogenMod 6 or some of the other popular mods in the development section and you should be happy.
Don't worry about the individual parts until you get used to things, and even then it won't be needed, just a hobby.
Ok thank you it is certainly what I'll take. But Cyan 6 or 6.1 ?
But I still don't know why Radios stand for.
And yes I'm one of those Guys that will flash to another roms every 2 Days but since Nexus S and new Phones are out I know Devs are leaving Nexus One so that's why I was asking forr a fast and a stable one.
So I'd just like to know what's the Radio ?
The radio is hardware/software that deals with the communications side of your phone. GPRS/HSDPA/WiFi etc.
That's what I was thinking about but then what are the differences between a radio on an other one ? Are there some faster than others ?
Plus Radios are generic ? It doesn't depend from your Carrier or Country

If you're go to run Froyo you'll be required to update your radio to 32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08.

Well I'm running 2.2.1 with 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2.
Should I update it to the one you said because I don't see anything going wrong. Except perhaps that when I connect to internet without Wifi it's written 2G but when I had my X10 it was either 3G or H so I don't know if it is related or not since I've only been able to connect to 2G with the Nexus even when it was not rooted and flashed to any rom, radio or kernel
Wild monks have pretty good kernels but I have no idea about what radio to choose cuz theres literally a lot of them. I just get really confused with them and
Still looking for a good radio tho.lol. But cyan mod is freaking awesome. Combined with inexus theme and it's the best ui interface I can find. plus I have swype too so I'm not going to give up my nexus any time soon until tegra 2 phones arrive
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I'm gonna wait before putting my hands on the Atrix and other tegra 2 phones because I want to see if there won't be any problem with the bootloader ect... Because getting stuck with a device that can't get bl unlocked is very very frustrating.

That's actually not true.
There's no need to be messing with your radio unless you are having a specific problem. If your custom ROM requires a certain Radio to work, it will probably be included in the package anyway.
Flashing custom ROMS is almost completely safe but flashing Radios can lead to a bricked device in short-order.

[RADIO] I9020XXKF1 Full Image [FASTBOOT] [UPDATE.ZIP]

Hello everyone.
I've extracted a full image of the new I9020XXKF1 radio, so it's not necessary that you are running I9020XXKD1 and upgrade via patch. You can now flash this radio from any other radio.
It has only been tested on the i9020t.
Currently, I've only released it in fastboot (raw) form. If there is an interest for update.zip format, I will release it as such.
You can download it here. Enjoy!
UPDATE: I have packaged an update.zip of the full radio image. You can grab it from the same link above.
Flashed this this morning and can day without a doubt people in the Houston Texas area should flash it right away. Much better signal for me.
P.s came from kd1.

You are 12 hours to late, I already did that and even more - its the CWM zip file. And since we have a thread for radios - why are you opening a new one?

Three things:
There is no direct exposure in the other thread stating that I9020XXKF1 is contained within.
Some people prefer their radio images in a format usable directly by fastboot.
Your image is about 1.5MB too large, as compared to all other full radio images released by Google directly. I've stripped mine down to conform with that format.
I'm not trying to criticize your release. Please, don't think that. I just want to offer the community options.
can anyone report different data speeds or just signal?
thanks

I'm not criticizing your work either, I'm just telling you that you could have posted it in that thread, since it is a radio thread.
Why do we need a new thread for one radio release?
Yeah I know what you're saying.
Just trying to make things more convenient for others, with the exposure on the main thread list. That is all.

i can report that my data has been connecting faster. i flashed the zip this morning that brainmaster provided. i came from the KD1 radio. data speeds are exactly the same for me though.
Subjectively, it feels as if my radio has been more stable.
I haven't really done much testing in the speed department. I'll check it out, and report my findings. I will do both speed tests on the phone, as well as some tethering. I am located in an area where I consistently get 3-4 bars of HSPA+.

Can i apply the update (through flashing by cwm) with custom roms (nscollab)? I read somewhere that it was meant for stock only, and still confused about that fact.

working fine here. custom rom/kernel. its for the i9020t.
Awesome. Now I just gotta fix for double bln light and youtube playback issue
EDIT: Just curious if I did this right. My build number still says GRJ90 even though the baseband clearly says I9020XXKF1. I'm also on 2.3.5 android on nscollab .41
Radio won't change build number.
Good job

Has tmobile gotten a proper 6.0 OTA radio yet?

has tmobile pushed a OTA for 6.0 yet and if so did it include a new radio? the radio that came with 6.0 on googles website was really bad for me and dropped a lot of calls so i had to stick with the 5.1.1 radio.

the ota comes from google. but tmobile does have to aprove it. or you can manually flash the facyory image, since its the same thing this time around. has it been pushed? no idea, since im always flaahing custom builds and not stock.

According to Des, the build IS different. The initial build from Google may have been unified, as you have continuously argued, but this doesn't seem the case now. That initial build was NOT unified, insofar as it hadn't been approved by all carriers collectively. I won't be one bit surprised if multiple builds happens again.
This of course, remains true, unless the 58X build Des mentioned is Google's new unified build. Or is a security update build. In which your argument would hold true.
I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong
