Wow!
Switched on my phone to find an update to B853
Looks like a security update but still - it's the P7!
anyone still alive out there?!
How is it going with the update? Any issue so far? I'm guessing this is not your primary phone so maybe you didn't have enough time to test it properly, am i wrong?
@iobling
You're right, I'm on the Mate 9/Mi 6/HTC11/OnePlus thing right now and my partner is on the s8 plus so, yes, well beyond the POINT as my daily driver, however:
I loved this phone soooo much I got a septate SIM for it and still use it everyday.
The build is classic - I've had both front and back glass replaced for quite cheap, the 4G is excellent as if WiFi.
The phone is a little slow for today's needs but the update is smooth and though it looks like it's just security, there's more in there because it does a full boot thing including recalibrating all apps at boot.
It's still a lovely phone this, and this update is smooth.
I'm just surprised that Huawei is still handing out updates!
Reading the old thread it seems the b853 is only for asia. Are you in Europe?
I also checked on the website but no donloads avaliable (i can't get ota because of root).
Actually i'm still using the p7 as primary phone, couldn't find a proper alterntive yet. The major drawback of this phone is the lack of developers support, infact i'm waiting to be sure of support before buying another phone. So far the p7 is still performing well, a little slow but ok, too bad for the 5" screen that has become too little for my purposes.
Also by looking at that thread i realize it's not such a recent updated, so i guess you can be a little less surprise now about huawei updating the phone
It should be available in Europe. My German P7 got it a few days ago ota.
Cause of root I revert the phone to stock firmware to install the update.
It runs very well now.
So now it's available also in Europe awesome!
I'll give it a few more days to show up on the website otherwise when I have time I'll revert and look for the ota. Now it's my primary phone so it's not the best idea to mess around with the rom.
I'm stock everything....I think the phone runs great!
I'm in Kenya by the way, Africa and it came as OTA...
Tell you what, though; simply replacing the camera lens cover (extremely cheap from eBay) was an eye opener. I was aastonished at how good the camera is! I'd forgotten!

Hi all, as far as you know will this unit support the "over the air" software upgrade that other and less expensive devices already are said to support?
Thanks
Ps. I have an hd2 running windows mobile and I'm getting tired to soft reset the unit almost once a day. I saw android is really stable compared to win mobile 6.5 so I'd like to switch. I must confess, the only thing that prevents me from doing so is the lack of an offline gps navigator like tomtom, the best one.
No one really knows if there will be OTA updates.
Why dont you try flashing android on your HD2? Look in the HD2 section here on XDA.
Thanks, but I can't afford to brick my pda...
Yes there is an OTA menu
Thanks it would be a pity not having this possibility in such a device! But I'm doing a consideration: is it worth it to spend all this money when technology and most of all Android's development is bringing innovation at such a pace? I mean, one can buy a cheaper X3, Huawei. It should work without flaws and would mount the same os...what do you think?
Buying cutting edge stuff is always going to cost lots.
The differences between handsets aren't really that great. If you're worried about money, wait until this handset and others are released and buy one of the current handsets which will probably be reduced.

That was close to my philosophy, I mean when I bought my first pda in 1999 I wanted it top notch in order to last and I kept it until 2004 when I bought another pda top of the line. It lasted until last September when came the HD2. It is a beautiful machine but all of a sudden it seems to be old compared to all those android that are coming out with a continuous flow and I cannot stand anymore all those necessary soft resets and strange behaviours....
So probably it's time to spend the less possible and chose pda like to new X3 huawei, with all inside, ota and gingerbread. Mind changes and this is the case...
Android's too fast moving to really have anything be future proof. Check out the G1/Dream, released October 2008, Nexus S, December 2010.
Big difference. Admittedly the difference between the Nexus One and Nexus S isn't that great but it seems that they're 2nd Gen devices while this Dual Core stuff might be what you could call the third Gen.
Wether they are or not it'll be unlikely that anything you purchase today running Android will look anything but prehistoric in five years time.
As for your HD2 being a PDA, what do you need? Any phone will do what a PDA did ten years ago.
Well I call pda all those devices cause I saw them being introduced in the market more than ten years ago. I use the hd2 for push email, contact sync ota, calendar ota, sat navigation, documents in excel and word, sms sending via web with jacksms, web surfing and LOTS of other thing, among them, safe storage of sensitive data.
I still call them pda cause that's what they have been created for. Now they can communicate and even call, or allow you a call...but the core is that.
Nice chat.
Have a good evening, must go to bed now.
Yes. i used OTA for upgrading, yesterday.
There's also an LG updater Application which will check and install updates. So I guess both bases are covered.

Providing it works.
FOTA updates are not working for the T-Mobile branded unit. Comes back with validation error.

From 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 I guess??
Thinking about getting A7 ,but want to see the new ones first,I know I can preorder but when will they be out
I heard it was suppose to be March the 7th, but other than that I am not sure. SteamTV has been promising to release A10 since January 18th and than in Feburary so don't be too shocked if it still shows up as Preorder.
Its 3/8/2011 and the A10 is STILL on the pre order list at Tiger!. I wonder if it will be at stores by 2012?
Is this about accessories?
I don't trust the company, or the specs on the A10
The reason why I don't trust the company is obvious - repeatedly delayed, with no explanation. This is not the way to build a customer base.
The reason why I don't trust the specs is that Apple is releasing the iPad 2 with a 1024x768 screen, and the new Malata device is also being released with the same. So, am I to believe that Stream TV managed to get a higher resolution IPS screen into their A10, whereas Apple could not? I am not convinced.
If this ever gets released (I'm still guessing EO this month or April), I want to hear reviews first before I decide to push the button. Bottom line: If they backpedal on the specs and add a TFT screen instead of IPS, there's no way that I'm buying this thing.
Stream TV, prove me wrong here. Get on XDA and tell us what's going on - this is a situation where I WANT to be proved wrong.
10" Elocity release? Have a 7", wishing not...
I wouldn't put much credence into anything Elocity says at this point. We've had the A7 since January, and thanks only to Dexter's mod making this thing truly usable, we didn't return it. Usable, that is, until I did Elocity's latest FW update. Mistake. Can no longer download from market. Did cache clear, data wipe, tried reinstalling Dex's mod, all to no avail. I'ts like the standard POS we got back in Jan all over again. Spent hours messing with this thing today and I'm pretty sick of it. Tried restore after restore of backups and it runs and runs for hours before finally blanking out and going to home screen, not having done the backup no less. Anyone else having the same issues with the latest Elocity FW update?
Don't expect Elocity to do anything about it
I'm waiting until the end of April, and after an initial review before I also buy the device. Dexter did a great job keeping us appeased with A7. I am not sure whats going on lately with SteamTV, somehow I think they wanted to get honeycomb and couldn't so now they might be waiting again. By that time I will probably find something else of interest.
I love my A7...
I think a 10" would be too big. But agreed, they need to stop delaying on everything. This is why the customer base is so small. Solid product though.

having the same issues today. Elocity only says to do the factory reset, which takes me down to the original awful firmware. Any updates or mods I try to install won't run and the A7 gets stuck at the word "Android" without moving forward into booting up all the way.

Guys, if we ever want LG to act properly and fix the issues on the G2x/O2x then we need to stand together and put as much pressure on LG as possible.
One way of doing so is to post replies on their official global facebook site for everyone to see.
http://www.facebook.com/LGMobileHQ
Every time they put a new marketing blurb on this site claiming how great they and there products are - everyone should post a reply demanding them to act and fix the G2x/O2x and release a proper Gingerbread like the competition SGS II and HTC Sensation allready have.
This is a sure way of getting heard at LG, with 310.000 viewers and potential new customers reading it, LG cant continue to ignore the issues.
Who says LG is ignoring the issue?
LG Global HQ promised a update in may on Facebook, this was later postponed (by LG Italy) as the update was not done.
I hope LG (global HQ) will inform users what is going one in next week (well, I hope they do). Because at the moment they have promised an update which possibly is postponed to mid or end of june. But a official statement from LG Global HQ is still missing.
Im saying they are ignoring the issues because
1. They initially promissed the phone would be launched with Gingerbread when first announced. But it was launched with Froyo because they weren't finished with Gingerbread, however with a promise of Gingerbread being released very soon after and everyone then expected Gingerbread to be released atleast before the competitions phones would be released. This is not happening, and Gingerbread are now possibly due some time in june/july long after competition have released their phones with Gingerbread. Even older models from different manufacturers are now receiving Gingerbread before our new "dual core super phone"
2. The issues are not only rebooting, but also a number of different other bugs in the phone causing it to behave poorly both in comparison to the nearest competitors but also in comparison to even older single core phones for certain operations. LG has not at any time responded in any way regarding any other issues but the rebooting which they have only responded to with first a baseband update stating this would fix it (but it didnt), then after more pressure a promise of a new firmware mid/end may to fix it but now postponed indefinately because of problems finding the cause.
3. Problem is, if they still havent been able to identify the real problem then its impossible to say when they actually will, or impossible to say if it really is a software or hardware problem that should demand a recall. And still there are no response whatsoever regarding other bugs in the phone and regarding fixing these.
4. Information and response from LG is virtually non existing, meaning noone has a clue if they are simply stalling and hoping for the bad press to drown in the new press for their upcoming models like the optimus black and the optimus 3d
5. We need to get more commitment from LG on these issues, not only the rebooting, but also the rest and they need to speed it up. Im not accepting to buy a phone that will take a year to get working the way it should have worked from day one. By that time we are moving on to the next phone.
Manufacturers need to learn that it is not ok to release beta products that take the products whole lifetime to get working fully - noone would accept to buy a car where the brakes didnt work or the wheels fell off and just wait patiently 6 months for some update to fix it.
Also - I really do like this phone, or rather I really do like what it could be and I want it's full potential to be released. Its such a shame to have an unstable firmware with stupid bugs making it look bad.
Good idea

Well to find a solution and nothing official why and how and waiting for two months on an 500 Euro phone yes I feel ignored
LG is totally ignoring these issues in Switzerland. Furthermore, the repair service is totally unaware what to do with infrequent reboot and freezes. They simply flash firmware V10c and send the phone back to the customer. This does not fix anything, because I had V10c already installed before I sent the phone in. I returned it to the shop last Friday for a 2nd attempt to repair it. And I know what they will do to "fix" it, they install V10c and send it back.
I am forced to play this game 3 times and then I can ask for a refund, this is how the law works against the customer here in Switzerland. And this is all LGs fault, because it is their call to simply replace a defective phone, but no they only authorize their repair service to reflash the firmware.
What is not helping, there are still people out there with working phones, praising the 2 day runtime of the battery and how fast it is. Mine is lagging big time. I did not pay 555 CHF to turn off every useful feature of a smartphone to make the battery last a day.
Besides, LG Switzerland does not even reply to mails. They may be aware of the situation in other countries, but in Switzerland they are not.
It is exactly the same situation here in Denmark
Talked to LG support many times, they dont know anything and only send me back to the retailer for repair, the retailer says to talk to LG or send in the phone for reflashing (i wont call it repair) and only after doing so for 3 times will they make a refund. This could take months. So instead of having to go through that process I would prefer if LG could just get their act together and fix the firmware.
The more pressure we put then the sooner the gingerbread etc will be out, but it will end up being buggy as hell like the software we have now, just let them get on with it, and they will release the updates when they are stable and 100% working
The pressure on LG should continue, yet I do not want them to replace one faulty firmware with the next one. I want my money back. The high scores in artificial and silly benchmark tests are completely useless if the phone is not stable.
Furthermore, the preinstalled LG crap programs should be made customer uninstallable without being forced to root the device.

I doubt we'd be able to put "pressure" on a multi-billion dollar company tbh
It's not like they've completed the Gingerbread update and are... well... simply not releasing it. It's simply not ready yet.
I'm hoping that they're not gonna do the Gingerbread update, not tell anyone and secretly update to 2.4 instead
Haha definitely would be great to have 2.4 straight
C'mon LG!
I don't know why LG always let their android phone become unstable. My brother used P500 always hang (black screen can't wake up)
Now I use V10D with 2X, it always black screen or reboot after I upgraded someone's android 2.3.4 mod. it's fine and good no more reboot and lag. (wifi function has some bugs)
I like my root and don't want to be the Guinea pig, but see the OTA is here. Have to do some research so I don't brick my G2...again
BTW I just added a screenshot of my system info.

I'm downloading the update right now! I unrooted my phone yesterday but was unaware I had to revert to stock firmware to update, so I had to do that first . For some reason it looks a little different from my old software's gui but I'm happy I'm getting the update!
Let us know how it goes! I'm quite happy with my g2, except for the GPS that needs a clear sky view to be accurate. Don't want to break a good thing!

Well after performing all the previous updates for my g2, I finally installed 5.0, and now my g2 won't boot up so I have to install the stock firmware again LOL
Yeah so I went through the whole updating thing a second time and the same thing happened. I learned that my phone tried updating to 5.0 one time and failed. The second time I tried to install it, after it finishes updating, after reboot it should go into optimizing apps and such before loading the screen, but it's just stuck at the lg screen.

And LG reps admitted on the phone with me and a Verizon rep that the GPS would be fixed with the Lollipop update. Ha. It did not work. Big surprise. I have yet to deal with a company who cares less about their customers (and I drive a *gasp* Volkswagen!)!

Likely a hardware issue, the last two Assurion re-furbs have had great GPS performance. Quick locks and 3m accuracy even indoors and solid navigation in both portrait and landscape orientation when docked on the dash. This one just got the lollipop OTA last night and GPS is still strong.

My GPS got worse and worse on this refurb (screen had dead spots on last one). Anyway, I tightened the screws under the back cover and it now works better than it ever did. (Motorola GPS seemed better to me, well, usually. Maybe all my screws keep coming loose--this is first time I've tried to tighten them--and it worked).
reading the laments over poor Lollipop battery life, i kept on KitKat until 23.4.A.1.200 -- which seems to be the one that Sony nailed.
just updated yesterday. system went through a series of updates, i think five or six. didn't know that for OTA, you actually had to do them incrementally, one after another. system would get done with one, immediately there would be notification of another, and so on and so on until 23.4.A.1.200.
after the first one, the phone got hot. and by the 5th of 6th reboot/update, it was REALLY HOT. never ever felt it this hot. i was really starting worry that i would eventually become a victim of the dreaded cracked glass syndrome.
i've swapped roms on tablets and Samsung phones, without noticing any heat dissipation. and for things like downloading and installing apps with Lollipop, my Z3c gets warmer -- something i didn't notice with KK. surely this isn't normal?
edit: just doing a several minutes of WhatsApp chats ... why is this thing getting warm now?

Well... Ive been using it since it was out (used @moly82 debloat script and some other modifications) and the phone definitly does not get hot. Maybe you should do a fresh install by flashing the FTF with flashtool (you can exclude data wipe... if that wont work try to do a full clean install)? Here is the newer 23.4.A.232. Try that one. Or use Moly82's rom V7.
At least with a clean install you can be sure if it is not related to your phone just being a little messed up (it shouldnt be but well... anything can happen with software).
Hope this might help you
thx. will look into this. i'm based in Canada though ... will CE and Singapore work okay given my locale?
was kind of hoping to keep it stock (my Z3c has been STOCK for 10 months! by far a record for me ... kind of hard to believe, actually), but i was *just* installing an app, and the phone rebooted itself. grrrr.
heat issues, and a reboot: never once had an issue with the phone until now ... hmmm.

Give it some time. Turn off "Scanning always available" in wifi settings. Turn off location/gps. Let it cool down properly. Then proceed to do your work.

If all else fails, perform a factory reset. Also if you reboot a modern phone that many times and update it would obviously get hot
