Move data from old phone with Samsung Switch - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I am waiting for my new Note 8 and currently have a moto z play. I wonder how I'm going to move data and everything to the new phone.
Is it worth using Switch?
Will it move every app data or just a few things?
Thank you.

Switch has always worked great for me. I even used it to move stuff from a Kyocera flip phone to a S6 for work. Lots better than Kies.

Yep, I have used it the last 3 or 4 times and it's better then before.

It causes problems

I used Switch when I got my S8+ and it caused me to have terrible battery life. After a factory reset and manually installing apps, everything came right.
I stayed away from Switch this time with my Note 8

Not for app data. For apps it just installs a fresh install of whatever app you had on the old phone.

Use it from Samsung to Samsung devices multiple times. No issues.

Just helped someone transfer content from a Note Edge to a Note 8 this past weekend; used the wireless method and everything went flawless.

Upgraded to tizen. Now connection issues

As title suggests I did the upgrade and now I have connection troubles. I place my phone at work in an area that has good reception and I come in and out of the room (kitchen) to do my job just as I was doing before when on android and it's not reconnecting. I think it connects via bluetooth ok it's just gear manager but I'm not sure. Thinking I might go back to android at least I had no problems then. Unless anyone could shed some light?

Me and the wife both have connection issues, with the Gear and Note 3's not each other. She's not that bothered, but it annoys the hell out of me. Am on V700XXUCNF1 and Gear Manager 2.1.14071502 using Note 3. When I forst switched to Tizen there were no issues, but with 2 updates the connections have gotten worse. i unpaired the devices and repaired and it made them better, but now battery drain is worse than before, only getting 48 hours or so, before I was on for about 72.

You guys are not alone with this. I encountered the same exact issue with Tizer edition Gear1 and that version of Gear Manager with my Note 3. Samsung is absolutely no help at all, and actually took my watch in for service. What they sent back was my watch (all cleaned up- was pretty nice actually), and back on stock version w/ Android. Of course, zero connection issues after receiving it back.... initially. After 2 days of being on stock Android version, I missed the "iPod" functionality of the Tizen OS with the other apps I used. I reinstalled Tizen on the watch, GM updated to the version listed above, and again- can not connect. I tried a few different things but to no avail. I also called and attempted to b*tch out Samsung, but they don't care. What's even scarier, is that they absolutely no idea this is happening.
I found the Tizen downgrade Android thread in here, put Android and Null 23 on my watch and I'm not looking back. once GM updates again I will try it, but if it doesn't work I'm glad that with at least Android on here it is a usable smartwatch. Hope that helps.
Believe me, you guys aren't alone with the connection issues.
Yup that's just confirmed me to move and try null rom. Don't mind battery life as charging most nights anyway. J
Hi, I upgraded room for tizem, however can not get past the initial menu, the configuration with the cellphone.
I have a Samsung S7562 Duos, which only worked with Gear with Bluetooth connection.
I can connect the mobile phone with bluetooth for gear, but I can not exit this menu, what can I do?

Come back to Android?

Was a long-time Android user with several various phones, then switched to an iPhone 5 for a short while, came back to Android with the Note 3 for a while (which I loved), but then switched to the iPhone 5s. After using that for a while I'm thinking about coming back to Android for good. I'm contemplating getting a Note 3 since I knew it so well - even had rooting & ROM flashing down with it. Though about the Note 4 but can't root it. Then thought about the Galaxy s5 or Galaxy s5 Active, but not sure if I want to go back to something I've had experience with it try something new.
I know, I'm kind of all over the place here. I just like trying new tech toys, but iOS 8 sucks and I think I'm done with it.
Would like to hear some s5 users' thoughts/ suggestions. Thanks.

I love my S5 it's a fantastic device with great battery life a fantastic camera and with root I've debloated the apps I don't use. This of course is just my opinion as I'm sure you'll get others that don't like the S5. Yes bootloader is locked so no AOSP Roms but for me I prefer the stability of T/W.

Wait and buy a Nexus 6 when it is released.
S5 is a good phone but not worth using an upgrade. My opinion.
Got mine free from Samsung so it's a good free phone. [emoji622]
we own all of the above
My wife and I owned every apple and every s phone between us, her with the iphones me with the s phones.
First off lets talk batteries.
Her Iphone 5S lasts about 8hrs off the charger per day in 1 place without WiFi.
MY S5 is hitting 18hrs on powersave mode streaming Iheart radio in a moving semi truck 514 miles deep off istate 14hrs to 16hrs a day without WiFi UNPLUGGED. All I did else is turn off AT&T apps.
Memory.
I just ordered a 64gig 90mbps sd card.
her new Iphone 6 plus is still only 16gigs.
Freedom of files.
Her Iphones universally BLOCK us from transferring ANY file via USB. You MUST upload your personal information to Itunes then download it all back allowing ALL of it to not only use data but be stored someplace.
S5 has a fire wire USB and transferred over 20 gigs in less than 5 mins (without anyone else seeing my nudy pics.)
ROOTING!
We don't even want to try rooting hers cause she sold her sole to the company store.
I am rooted without triping KNOX and have adaway, root explorer, super user, WiFi tether, Titanium Backup, my choice of any recovery I want to add.
buttons.
Iphones don't have a back key. It's extremely frustrating!
Bluetooth.
All of our S phones have superior compatibility and sound quality over Bluetooth.
OTA
Up until last month Apple never gave her a bad update. Now she has to backup all her files to big brother apple again on iTunes and then reset her phone to fix it to 8.1.
If I get a bad OTA I just flash over a different one from XDA that's better.
These are some of the things I noticed. Hope it helps.

Get a Note 4 or....

Hey guys just a quick question. Idk if any of you have other devices such as HTC, but i was wondering, im about to upgrade and im not sure if to get a Note 4 or wait for the HTC One M9.
Any help. I haven't used a sense phone since the HTC Evo 3D.
What phone are you upgrading from? I've had several phones including the late iPhone 6 plus and once you get Note and its features, you can never go back. Multi window even with third party apps, ir for remote control, S-pen for notes(there's no substitute), camera is one of the best for a phone. I just use Nova in place of TouchWiz and I'm good.

Note 3... and i love the note 4 (wife's got one) just was wondering if now was the time to switch to HTC, considering i dont know much about what they've been doing lately.
Get a black me 4 or a white note 4. as of today those are your best options but March 1st will come and give me options but even with my 2 jumps this year I'll probably keep my note 4

Wait to see the M9 and Flex 2. Note 4's a very minor upgrade from your Note 3 except for the camera.

Not sure about the Flex 2, but the only advantage of the M9 is that it's supposedly 64bit, however the Note 4 is far superior in all other aspects (SPen, Gear VR, for example). But then again, they are two different kinds of niches.

Avoid the Qualcomm 810 it has heat issues that cause it to under perform. Most tests have show the 805 (which is what is in the Note 4) out performs it.

I agree and that might be a reason (or one of the reasons) why Samsung is dumping the Snapdragon altogether on the S6 (and future devices?).
Cheers!
I came over from the HTC ONE_M8. I've had my N4 for maybe 2 months now and am starting to warm up to it. When I first got it I didn't like it too much. Compared to the M8 I found the N4 to be laggy, sometimes even complete freeze ups. After turning off a few things along with some changes with the settings it's much better than it was. Since I use the S-pen for work, I do like that cause it works well with what I do. The battery is pretty good, it gets me from wake up to bed easily, pretty much using the phone without worry about it running out. In fact I'm just over 5 hrs screen time with 11% left. One thing that I do like is how the screen is, especially in sunlight. Overall it's a good phone

If I hadn't gotten the Note 4 awhile back and was just now getting ready to upgrade I would most likely get the M9. Had the M8 and loved it.
Get the note 4.
There won't be another good rootable cell phone til the s6 or note 5.
I say if you find a good deal on the Note 4 get it. If you're paying full retail then I rather have the latest and greatest. M9, or GS6
I'd get the note 4.
M9 seems like it won't have a lot of devs based on m8.
S6 seems so far away.
S5 wasn't any good anyway.
Last cool rootable cell phone was s4.
Just a note we are waiting for the lollipop update, while HTC already has it. Not just the M8 but also the M7

Get the nexus 6 or HTC M9. The n4 as is is laggy as ****. I had to flash CM12. while it works fine, it has is fair of issues. Samgsung/Tmobile take forever to release Lollipop. I would take my business else where next time.

Someone else sees this the same way I do. I'm really hoping that the update fixes the lag and unresponsiveness

The m8 and s5 didn't have devs.
Firewater broke almost immediately on the m8.
I think there were 2 roms for the s5.

I'm on FireKat with the N4, and can't say I've noticed any lag whatsoever.

Snapchat "lenses"?

Does the "lenses" feature work for any of you guys? All I've seen so far is it on iPhone. However, their update on the play store states that it's only available on newer phones. Can SnapChat just not detect my face or did they leave us out?
same problem here with the note 5. works fine on the note 4 tho.
Note 5 AT&T here. Snapchst Lenses isn't working for me either. Trying to find out why, but nobody seems to know the answer yet. Tried it on my sisters Note 3 and it worked great.
Having the same issue. I'll try to reach out to Snapchat for an answer

Same issue here with my Note 5. I really was wanting to try it out.
I have the same issue as well - does anyone notice when using the back camera a white circle appears if you hold your finger down? I never noticed this before.
Another note 5 user who is left out with this new feature. I'm supposedly a Beta tester for them too!
Samsung S4
Here is a Samsung S4 rooted phone with Stockware from samsung, android 5.0.1, who is also left out. I got it to work on an xperia z2 android 5.1.1 non rooted.
Does the version have anything to say? Or the rooting?
Snapchat fixed it with Wednesdays update via play store

Yup works for me too. They released another update the same day the original update came.
What I'm more interested in is the ability to change cameras while recording a snap.
I have a Note 5 & I am experiencing the same issue with both filters and lenses. Anybody with a solution please tell.
Mine works on tmobile

New to Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and the Android ecosystem. What to do next?

Hello,
I just got my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 a week ago or two weeks ago. It was really a big decision considering the fact that I was supposed to get an iPhone X. It is the best decision I've made so far!
Now, I don't know if it is possible to reinstall my phone like a fresh installation? The usual thing that I do on an iPhone. Backup via iTunes. Manual installation of the firmware then restore via iTunes. I don't know if that is possible with an Android phone, most specifically a Samsung phone. It was shocking though that I transferred stuffs from my iPhone to the Samsung phone using an actual cable and without the help of computers. Even transferring of stuff can be made directly onto the phone itself without the use of a desktop suite. Going back, I'll be getting the memory cards that I ordered, I heard the firmware for Android must be placed there?
I believe that my phone is locked to my carrier, and I have no idea where to get the actual firmware from my manufacturer. Does Samsung has a database of modified firmwares? My Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a dual-sim edition.
My previous post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3744101
Thanks.
Tis worth to start from 0.
Welkome to freedom
Samsung smart switch allows to restore your pho e from a iCloud backup. It will copy contacts photos etc and scan through app you had on the iPhone and find the Android equivalent. Worked great for me when I switched recently
