Search their threads...no damage but there are some issues with Samsung's software limiting charging to 80%...I should say that there is always a risk with rooting...you may end up with a brick if you do not follow what is stated to do...root at your own risk...

my note 5 just have battery problem
its SOT just 2-3 Hours with black theme - greenify and ....
and its health was 80%
Battery seems better than s8+
After 2.5 years, I rooted my Note 4. It was great. Great battery life. Then I tried to update the root to 6.0 and I lost root and was never able to get it back. Now it's the same pile of wakelock battery draining suck that it's always been. I have three apps on it and I get constant wakelocks. I got the same wakelocks when I had no apps except what comes with stock. I lost 40% battery today with it just sitting there doing nothing. I sure do hope that the Note 8 doesn't have the same wakelock issues.
If I hadn't blown root on the Note 4, I'd probably have kept it until it died, just for the removable battery.

Interesting because every reviewer points out the smaller battery in it.

Yeah right
Ya know, I'm kinda glad rooting is risky again like it was back when I started. Get rid of the new breed of noobs. Everyone expects root at the tap of the screen now. I remember part of unlocking the bootloader/permanent root of the eVo 3d was bricking it. Actually being nervous about destroying an expensive device. It's been way to easy for too long.

The note has 6GB of Ram which runs Android and everything a lot easier and cooler... I think this is the reason the battery lasts longer than the s8+ even with a smaller battery. As technology grows things get smaller not bigger
I saw a few youtube reviews too but they looked clueless to ever using a note before lol

Yeah everyone knows that it's smaller. But that doesn't mean it's worse than the s8+. Most of the youtubers say **** without even testing it out

If you go international root should be seamless with TWRP and the rest of the associated goodies functioning fine, Snapdragons are another story. There is some hope that the lessons learned on the S8 will be quickly transferable to the Note 8, seems like a reasonable assumption but an assumption nevertheless. I long ago learned not to bet against the smart guys that make the magic happen around here but nothing will change the fact that the vast majority of all development will be aimed at the international phones. Flashers know who they are and will be buying international knowing all this without me or anyone else ever having said it. I understand the desire to stick with Snapdragon and the reasons why some do it but new guys should understand that the advantages of development will not be leveraged on the Snapdragons to anywhere near the extent it will be on the internationals. That's a known right now, look at development over on the recent Samsung forums since they've gone to a universal locked NA Snapdragon and see where the effort is going for yourselves, you don't have to take my word for it.

Samsung knows what they are doing. The AMOLED Panel on the Note 8 draws less power then the panel on the Gs8. Remember reading that in certain condition it used up to 22% less power. They had to sacrificed some battery space for the spen but made up for it with an improved Panel and software optimizations . Even though the v30 has a similar display I bet the Note 8 will still beat it in battery life.

Believe me, I tried. I spent an entire day trying to get root back on it, and just ended up stuck in dozens of boot loops. I could not get it back. Frustrating. Rooting it was easy, the first time around.

I think what you are reffering to Ashman is better efficiency.
Efficiency allows less electron leakage by the transistors by a more efficient design. Its amazing if you look at the actual die with each new revision silicon. They have more transistors, usually less leakage, and require less power due to the transistors being more efficient. One major way leakage/inefficiencies surface is by heat.
So, by a CPU design that is superior than the last, it "should" require less voltage to operate at = to or greater than the clock speed of it predecessor, have an increase in transistor count (usually 2-10%), perform = or > predecessor in operations per clock cycle at any given speed, and cost less to manufacture.
Of course there are many other factors that come into play when designing any hardware/software, but I believe these above are the big ones on the bucket list. If not, then they need be! :good:

So.. in february i sold my iPhone 5s and was confused what to go for.. So I picked N4 Exynos as i wanted a good performance etc. Unfortunatelt, I am bit disappointed. I got a screen burn, the phone isn't butter-smooth and battery life is terrible. Still, we have not any AOSP/CM so.. no way surviving. I am thinking on what to replace my note with..i am looking at G4 and M9, Z3+ when it eventually goes available in my country... what do you guys think?
Okay as i dont have my own m9, g4 i can't say how they will behave in long term use.
But I have played with the both phones for some times, and I feel that m9 has much better performance, the camera is too good, and most importantly it is a phone with everything packed in a decent size of 5 inch.
If you prefer bigger(5.5 inch) and better screen the g4 is a better option..and I felt that the g4 battery gives you more time with screen on,though it has a better resolution.
And with the Sony,I personally hate Sony..:banghead:
My z3 became a paperweight as its faulty battery burnt the motherboard, and I couldn't claim warranty because of unlocking the bootloader!

The problem is, I didn't have any HTC in the past, and - as I read forums - I can't understand the procedures to mod it. S-OFF's, CIDs, the hell is that I have had Xperia neo V back in the times, it was branded phone but somehow it had unlocked bootloader with testpoint method, so I was really lucky . Samsung is the easiest phone to mod, I am pretty scared of HTC level of difficultness in terms of modificating. Another thing is Snapdragon 810 which heats up as I heard. The positive is that I hope developers can get most out of it so there will be many custom roms etc

Yes I also heard that snapdragon 810 heats up fast..but I think this doesn't effect much on the device, like almost all the phones of Sony z series have overheating issues, but when I talked and discussed about it on the Sony mobile forum, they said that all phone CPU's got something inside to control heating issues,so nothing much to worry..
I had a HTC one before z3,the S-OFF,S-ON was a little bit confusing then, because I was at very early stage of phone modding...if you have used and modified phones deeply before, you can easily learn them ..they are not that much hard from unlocking bootloader or flashing ROMs in a Samsung device!

+1 ...nexus devices are the easiest to mod and the purest Google/Android devices there are. I still have an original nexus 7 running like a champ (aside from the screen being cracked thanks to one of my kids stepping on it lol) but software-wise you can't kill that thing!

Hmm have you tried installing a custom rom + kernel (+ init.d tweaks)? Mine is perfectly smooth now, with some slight stutters here and there when loading a bunch of apps. There are a lot of performance enhancements to be found here that your could try before switching. Personally I'm using Wanam's BOC5 rom with googy_anas's kernel, with the L Speed 2.2 tweaks (removed the VM and RAM tweaks) + fpsunlocker (but instead of setting it to -60 I have set it to -1). The s6 browser is also a lot smoother than the one that comes preinstalled on the Note 4 so do install that as well (found here). I would also recommend turning off location history and uninstalling chrome as chrome tends to use a lot more battery than the stock browser (also try uninstalling facebook + messenger and use the web-apps instead).

Really don't get it as I normally achieve around 7h of screen on time (using the minimum automatic brightness setting). Of course if I use my Gear VR I won't come anywhere close to that. Have you thought about getting an external charger + extra battery? Really convenient as you never need to charge your phone, and switching batteries only takes about 10 seconds. Samsung External Charger

You can achieve around 7h and when I go to school I can hardly achieve these 4h. The pauses are like 10 min, I usually use LTE, browse internet, read something. Screen is usually set to 50% brightness. The drain is really high. My phone can eat 10% per these 10 minutes.

Have you tried resetting the phone? You've most likely got an app that is not playing ball and using a lot of juice. Try resetting your phone, and using it without any extra apps and see if that helps, and then start installing them one by one.

I have maximally tweaked my phone now. Installed SweetROM, applied L-Speed init.d modifications, installed googymax kernel. Maybe it's a bit better, can't really tell. One thing that annoys me, whenever I connect to WiFi/LTE, FB Messenger says "Waiting for network". I have to go into settings>force close and re-run to fix this. Any ideas?
ATM i'm considering Nexus 6/LG G4, or wait for Xperia z3+
I currently have an S4 on Sprint. The screen cracked a couple weeks ago and I'm ready for my upgrade. I would like to stay on Sprint and I don't mind using my upgrade eligibility to get a big discount (which rules out a phone like the Moto Pure).
I want a bigger phone, ideally 5.7. I want something with an improved battery life (shouldn't be hard my s4 has a SOT of like 3 hours at most). I don't care about not being able to swap the battery or expandable storage. I want a better camera. I want something that will eventually be able to flash custom roms (seems like the note5 is getting close to this).
Why shouldn't I get one in about a week? What phones are better? Again - whatever phone I buy is going to come from the carrier, so something like a used note4 is not an option. Thanks!
The note 5 will work well for most of your needs. But I'm not sure about custom roms though. I'm not sure about the future but right now, development is slow. There is one custom rom at the moment it looks like for sprint. Something like the moto x or the next nexus may be better if development is important to you since they should work across all carriers. The exynos processor and multiple carrier versions will hurt development. But camera and battery life have been amazing (for me at least, some may disagree).

I won't talk you out of buying a Note 5, simply because this is the best phone I have ever owned.
The camera, the hardware, the speed, the customization, the sound coming through headphones, the call quality, the battery life, and dat S PEN! Well worth my upgrade and money.

The new note afaik has an issue with the pen, which when inserted backwards makes it stuck. There are ways to carefully extract it, but you can easily break the S-pen sensor.

As I said, I want to take advantage of my upgrade discount so I can't get a note 4. I could find one, but I would be paying 400$+ as opposed to the 250$ i can get the note5 from Sprint for.
oy yes TW, lag and very few custom roms.
My old phone was also a Galaxy S4. I used my upgrade to get the Note 5 and couldn't be happier. To be honest on Sprint the Note 5 is probably the best phone you can get
well...something to consider before buying..the AT&T and verizon variants come with locked bootloaders...
if you have small hands...this is not for you....one hand text sucks big time! Speaker isnt that loud as far as notification goes, unless you root your phone and modify some values. Battery is Decent, you get about 4-5 hours SOT. Dev is so-so on tmobile and international version. I think thats about it. This is my first Note series, all the past note are way too big for me, even this one is big for me, but I can work around it.

I had it all...all s series and note series and i was a litle sceptic about removing sd and battery but now I have note 5 in my hands and I have to say it is the BEST phone I had and I had it all and I am from EUROPE
I swore myself off TouchWiz after I owned my S4, it was my least favorite android phone. But after I had a really bad experience with the LG G4, I returned it and swapped it for a Note 5. Absolutely loving this phone. Never have had a phone this snappy even after loading it up with all my apps etc. I always notice that out of the box phones are great, and invariably after a week of use they bog down... Not this thing. Software is way toned down as far as TouchWiz is concerned. The S Pen is a pretty great touch. After having it, I realize if you're going to have a large device, might as well maximize functionality and have a stylus and some decent software to go along with it. I give this phone a solid 9/10, 9 because of the no expandable memory but really is a moot point with cloud storage being so good these days, and free. Also, if you're looking to flash custom stuff, consider that Knox will trip and you'll lose out on Samsung pay and other features requiring intact security flag. Definitely cruise over to the Note 5 sprint development page to see what's available before making a jump.
Really I don't think you can go wrong with this device. It's very well done, and has a very premium feel for a device, a first for Samsung... Finally I feel like I'm getting what I pay for
Love the hardware, hate the software. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to the hardware, it's really fantastic. But I can't get over how much this phone lags for me and how quickly the battery dies so I will be switching back to an iPhone once the 6s Plus is released. On my old 6 Plus I could end the day with 50% battery, on my Note 5 I have to charge around 5 PM, extremely disappointed. But if you can deal with Android the Note 5 seriously is probably the best out right now.

I've been surfing this forum and am shocked seeing how many people are complaining about bad battery life. I honestly think it is certain carriers. Which model and carrier do you have?
Because I have AT&T and my battery life is exceptional. It is to the point where I don't even worry about battery life anymore.

Bro, something is wrong. It's either verizon royally screwed something up in their software or you have a defective phone. No joke.
My Note 5 sips battery and all I did was disable all the AT&T bloatware, I didn't even use that app. I am consistently getting 20-25 hours off the charger and 5-8 hours of screen on time. I'm not over exaggerating either.
Losing 75% in 3 hours of not doing much is definitely a problem. I would see if other verizon users are experiencing the same. If not, I would exchange it for a new one unless you are already hell bent on getting the iPhone.
Good luck!
I purchased the Package Disabler Pro app a few hours ago, I'll let you know how it goes on my end. Im on a Verizon Note 5

Hahaha damn got caught.
I've been a Samsung user since the note 1 days because I was attracted to the screen size. I forget which phone I originally had but it was an HTC phone with a 5 inch screen. Back then that old outdated phone and the note 1 were the largest phones available.
Anyways to my question, I currently have a note 3 and battery life is dreadful. I've always had 2 batteries for my phones since my Nextel days. I've never owned a phone without a removable battery so my question is to anyone that's owned a battery removable phone or owned an android phone without removable battery, how does the Nexus 6 compare? I've been with android since donut and it's always been a hog on the battery, especially since I'm a heavy user.

well, I'm a heavy user and my battery makes it through a full day without issue. I see about 5-7hours sot depending what I'm doing. but, then again, how you setup your device makes a huge deal, so does your signal quality. most everyone that I've seen doesn't knuw how to setup a device properly, some I've seen do.
Also a large screen guy that always had removable batteries. Note 2 and LG G2 were my last two phones. Not a heavy user, I get two days on a charge.
Highly suggest Franko's Kernal for battery life.
The new features in the last couple of Android OS iterations like Doze and Battery Saver really make the most of the Nexus 6 battery.
Doze is great but I really like Battery Saver. It automatically kicks in when your battery hits 15% but if I know I'm going to be away from a charger for awhile I engage it manually. It limits the notifications I get but it really stretches the battery.

well, I'm a heavy user and my battery makes it through a full day without issue. I see about 5-7hours sot depending what I'm doing. but, then again, how you setup your device makes a huge deal, so does your signal quality. most everyone that I've seen doesn't knuw how to setup a device properly, some I've seen do.

Ok see knowing someone else that's a heavy user and can get anything better than I can relaxes my mind before I dive in and make my purchase. thanks to all that have commented.

just remember, the brighter you keep your screen, the fast battery will go. most of the time I keep my brightness from 0-15%, if I raise it to 35% then I lose an extra hour of screen on time.
I'm not sure why everyone says the battery life is horrible on the Nexus 6. I've not had any issues, esp with Doze in Marshamallow now.

I NEVER have battery issues, at all. AND my n6 never ever uses doze. to use doze, it has to be laying flat, and motionless. when I'm not using my phone, its in my back pocket.

Idk if you're speaking about me or others, but I was saying my N900v has bad battery life. I'm gonna be purchasing a nexus 6 since I no longer need the SPen. I just wanna make sure the battery is better than previous android devices that didn't allow removing the battery.

Is the doze app and doze feature in marshmallow, the same or very similar?
Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Well, I consider myself a heavy user, and I also once used Note 1 and 3.
Here is the thing, I only read ebooks alot on phones, not facebook.
Note 1 and 3, I got 10+ hrs SOT, reading (Black background and light grey text), disable auto brightness. I use LUX instead.
I also disable Google location history. (So no Google Now) (and I also disable all the Google stuff I don't use)
I get 2 days battery life on all three phones. With 40%+ battery life left.(Note 1, 3 and Nexus 6) - No root, stock.

I used to have a Samsung before myself. The battery swelled and Samsung wouldn't replace it. Nonetheless the Exynos chip and Knox pretty much did it for me so I'm done with Samsung.
Btw, for some reason I love that avatar LOL. Where did you get that ?

Battery life has been great with Pure Nexus and ElementalX. Usually get 6-8 hrs SOT over a full day of heavy use. I can go 36+ hrs between charging with moderate use.

Nice nice. I have had 1 Motorola phone and that was the first one they had on Verizon. Think it was called the thunderbolt. Only reason I didn't keep it was because I couldn't get H+ speeds on my GSM carrier, but the battery was awesome in that phone.

Hello everyone!
Background (less important): So, I've been looking at getting a Oneplus phone for a while but when my last 2 phones died back to back, I got an S6 from insurance. Problem with the S6 being just about everything (no SD card expansion, no removable battery, no rooting abilities, etc). I've been keeping an eye out for the right time to get a new device and, now that my device memory is full, I'm looking at a new phone.
I was looking at picking up either the S7 or the Oneplus 3T. The S7 is under $500 on amazon, which is pretty surprising (thought it would be much more expensive), has expandable SD card support, pretty good battery, good camera, lots of RAM, etc and they just got the ability to root. It also has some cool options like medical sensor stuff, etc (not all that important, just extra bells and whistles).
However, the 3T appears to have a very active rooting/mods community, and overall, many people have said this is the best phone they've ever had so I'm leaning towards picking that up. The only downsides I've seen/heard are the camera on the 3T isn't as good (definitely not the end of the world, it's still an upgrade from my S6) and I've seen a number of battery drain threads and that genuinely concerns me. I understand that those with the issue are likely going to be a lot more vocal than those that have everything working but I was hoping to gauge how much of a concern this really is and if anyone has determined the cause of the battery drain and if there's a solution. What I don't want to do is get a developer friendly phone that dies super quick (I understand it charges fast too but I don;t want to rely on that).
Anyway, this is kind of an important decision for me as my goal is to keep a phone for 3 years so I'm looking for a phone that is pretty well future proof (for a while, I know 3 years is a long time in the technology field) and I don't want to "settle" for a phone that's going to give me nothing but headaches.
If you guys could help me understand how big of a deal the battery drain is, it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Okay here's the deal. You're posting in the Oneplus 3T forum and people are clearly going to be biased, you're lucky I'm coming from a Galaxy Note 7 and my girlfriend has an S7 Edge.
The experience you're going to get with a Samsung is far richer in features and the camera is superior. The phone just yells premium out of it's every part. The microphone will record your voice better as well.
However, if you're looking for a future proof phone the Oneplus 3T is clearly a winner. People are crying about drain and SoT simply because they're more pretentious and pay more attention to details than Samsung users. All Android phones have some sort of drain and with time, stock ROMs get more laggy and battery consuming. The advantage you have on oneplus is that you can apply all sorts of custom ROMs, kernels and mods to squeeze out the most of your battery, while on Samsung you're more prone of getting stuck with drain sooner or later.
Here's where OP3T's top card comes, dash charge is amazing. At this point I don't even care about SoT since I can charge my phone to 60% in 30m. I'm getting 4-5 hours of SoT without tweaks and 4G always on data using stock ROM. Who even wants to stick their eyes in the phone screen for more than that?
You can't go wrong with the OP3T unless you're willing to wait for the next oneplus.
Bottom line, the drain people have been experiencing on OxygenOS 4.0.3 is of little concern, especially since it's improves with Beta 12 7.1.1. Stop overthinking and get the phone you like.

So just to be clear, you're saying that the battery drain people are experiencing is likely related to a version/rom/etc that they are using and they're too lazy to try different things to try and optimize it but even if I am that lazy, the dash charge still works well enough that it shouldn't be an issue for most people (assuming you're near a charging socket), is that a pretty good synopsis?
Just want to understand if you believe the issue is user error (not using the right software components/settings), user pickiness (IE they're perceiving a problem that's not really there) or if there are the occasional phone that experiences battery issues but it's a very small number.

I think that that's what he wants to tell you. To myself : I have the 3T since yesterday and since I'm coming from a M8 it's a huge upgrade for me. But for your comparison : my brother has the S7 and plenty of my friends have the S7E. S7E is in my opinion a superior phone in terms of camera, mic, display, waterproof .. etc. All the things that make the S7/E more superior is only because Sammy has done a better job, BUT what they didn't was to make the phone future proof. The thing with OP3T is that it also does/contains all of the superior things, it's just not that good. The camera is fine for me, I don't care about waterproofness, a 2K display is nice but you won't notice the difference anyway except for the brightness if you compare them both side by side. I'm pretty sure I've made my point.
Now for the 3T's battery drain : I was still on OxygenOS 3.5.4 because I didn't felt the urge to update. Woke up at 7 AM and plugged it out, somewhere between 10 - 11 AM I was on something like 27 percent. It was somehow strange but ok. Now that I couldn't resist to flash CM13 I've noticed a HUGE difference. I flashed CM13 at around 5 PM while I was charging it (was at 90% at 5PM) and now after 4h of using it I'm at 68%. Huge differnce no doubt and I'm staying at CM13.
Hope I could help you

Thanks for the advice, particularly about the future proofing. I honestly don't get why Samsung hasn't moved to a USB C connector yet . . . Seems like a no brainer, that's clearly the direction everything is heading.

Yeah, that's my opinion based on experience as a former Oneplus One, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and current Oneplus 3T user. People mostly started complaining about drain with OOS4.0.3 (latest current stock) and it will definitely be fixed with OOS nougat 7.1.1. This "battery drain" stigma that you're currently placing on the OP3T has been placed on all major flagships at some point. I can't be certain how well this device will be officially updated in the future, or how the battery will hold up after many many cycles, but i can assure you it will hold up better than an S7.

They did have USB-C on the Note 7. At the point of S7 launch it wasn't that widespread.

I'm actually really glad you mentioned that because, you're right, I have definitely experienced various stages of battery drain between updates on Samsung devices except I didn't get to choose when or if I wanted to update with those. At least I'll now be in control of those things! Made up my mind, ordering the Oneplus 3T now! Thanks!

I am certain you won't regret getting this device. Let me know if you need any help or have any more questions via PM.
6-7 hour of sot per charge every 22-28 hours.
technology is weird. people can get battery drains for all kinds of reasons. google services may be a reason. or some wakelock by some random app that never was a problem, but after installing it on a certain rom on a certain phone it suddenly is a problem. and weirdly enough you are the only one experiencing it. it might be something with the rom where a factory reset may help. some people go ahead and flash another rom and then it is gone. sometimes they make the wrong conclusion that it is the roms fault. or the kernels or whatever. it happens on every phone. just go to a random phones forum and you will find threads with people complaining about battery drain. and they will be the only ones with this particular issue. the vast majority of users does not have such issues. if they do you will find out about it soon enough and after some time there will be an update that fixes it.
my sot is around 5 hours depending on what i do. using media like movies gives you more screen time, heavy gaming gives you less screen time.
Hello,
i love my Note8 but as i came from the Xiami Mi Max 3 i'm not really satisfied with the battery. But the Note9 is way to expensive at the moment and ( for me ) not a better device than the Note 8 beside the better battery.
I have found on aliexpress a battery for the note 8 with a 3800mah instead the 3200mah from Samsung. Anyone tried this battery yet? The 20% bigger capacity would be a huge improvement for battery life.
Probably fake, but its certainly unsafe to do it, you might cause a lot of problems this way - even destroy a phone .
Try keeping your battery between 20 and 90% and you might get longer lasting battery.. That's just it, dont experiment with these sorts of things like battery capacity...

I think the battery life is pretty decent already, you could just get a powerbank if you are that concerned, I would suggest that over you putting a questionable battery in, all while probably ruining the IP68 in doing so.
I Tried 2 bigger than original batteries in the past for a S3 and a Note 3, first, these batts lack the NFC and wireless capabilities, second, they were not even near the advertised capacity, furthermore, they failed miserably in less than 2 months
What the others said, but also, the batteries are, for all intents and purposes, none-replaceable. It's not as simple as opening the back cover and swapping out the battery. There's a lot of work involved in doing it and you could potentially damage your phone just from this process, much less even the battery itself.
I don't recommend you try this.

As I did not want to surrender my device, yes, I used bk disabler to avoid any firmware update, but, just as a precaution, because here in Mexico the largest carrier, Telcel did not force anybody to exchange the device, in fact, you could keep it and in the event of it catching fire or anything of the sort, they would then exchage it for any other device, provided the warranty period still alive
Telcel gave you a very good deal here. Whenever you are ready to convert your Note 7 into self-destruct (nuclear bomb) mode, I'm sure this forum has several interesting ideas. On an unrelated note (no pun intended): Have you ever taken this phone on a flight before? If so, have you had any hassle doing so?
I recall in 2017 when I was re-fueling my car at a local petrol station here in Jamaica (not self-serve, but a pump attendant). A pedestrian (on foot) was on a phone call on a Note 7. I instinctively started my car, slammed it in gear ,floored the accelerator, leaving my gas cap, and forgetting to pay the fuel bill. I was determined not to die that day.
