In less than 60 days I'm on my 3rd Note 5 and am out almost $900. PLEASE HELP!
I bought an unlocked, used Note 5 n920I (3rd phone) from swappa to replace my Note 5 n920A (2nd phone) because it can't be rooted ( I still have the 920A). I bought the 920A (2nd phone) because I got drunk and lost my original Note 5 920I (1st phone - lost, don't have this phone.)
N920I (3rd phone) arrives today. All seems great, I go to check pertinents notice the device status is "Custom". Ignored that.
Somehow I'm stuck on FRP blue screen. I only know the android number thing is 5.1.1. ummmm - what do I do?
Hi, you can try to download TWRP from here: https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxynote5.html and then flash it with Odin like this: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/how-to-install-twrp-recovery-using-odin/ and then after that you can boot into the twrp recovery and use it to flash a custom rom. After you flashed a custom rom it should boot up normally.
:good:
SOLVED: I downloaded the newer odin from your link (I was using 3.09) and was able to flash the stock ROM. My device status reads OFFICIAL. Don't really know what happened or why, but THANK YOU!

Morning there,
I've been reading all I've been able to since Monday here and also from search results in Google, but I still haven't got a clear idea if this is possible or not.
I live in UK and I've bought a new Galaxy Note 5, which I received last Saturday, the phone works fine, but it has a N920V firmware on it from Verizon US, and I want to get Android 7 on it.
Verizon hasn't updated the firmware for this phone since January this year, so no Android 7 on their network, at least I can't find any firmware on SamMobile.
I've downloaded Android 7 for it, but firmware N920C (for Turkey it seems...), I've tried to flash it with Odin v3.12.7, the phone has the FRP lock as OFF and I've gone into the developer options and turned ON usb debugging and OEM unlock, but Odin fails to flash it, I can still boot up the phone and use it as normal after Odin fails no issues, I just cannot flash it.
I don't want to root the phone, and I don't want to install any custom recovery or custom ROM either, I just want to install Android 7 and if possible have a firmware with less bloatware, hence I downloaded the N920C. I downloaded the latest N920C firmware available out of the 6 there is available, so if anyone here knows that I can use any of the other 5 and make it work I'll be happy anyway...
As always, many thanks for yourhelp in advance
Just contact me via whatsapp, and ill guide you. Because ive been pass the same problem with u.

Can you explain it here? I don't use whatsup, sorry.
I've flahsed the phone with the latest Verizon firmware from SamMobile, I tried to flash it again with the N920C but didnt work.
Now with the latest Verizon firmware it always throws me an error when I restart the phone saying that the "SIM is not from Verizon", but still works on my EE SIM, so not too worried about that.
Also, I see now a red screen with Verizon name when I restart it, something I didnt have before....
Anyone knows how to get rid of these 2 things? or better even, how to flash the N920C firmware to it?
Thanks
Hello,
I currently own a Note 5 that I have been using for almost a year now. I live in a Lebanon, a country where we only have two telecom providers, and Sprint is not even one of them.
In my Software Info screen, my model says SM-N920F, but using a boot loader, the model is: SM-N920P.
I tried installing custom ROMS for SM-N920C but they wont boot and get stuck on the Samsung logo screen.
Is there any way I can turn it into a SM-N920C so I can benefit from all the ROMS available for SM-N920C?
It's really hard to find any working ROM for SM-N920F/P ( I really don't know which version I am )
I bought my Note 5 second handed from a local store.
Thanks a lot guys!
I'm not exactly sure, but it sounds like someone flashed a secondary boot image (kernel) for the P model. The settings screen doesn't mean much because any dev can put any device model in the xml, most ports say SM-G955 or SM-N950 which are S8+ and Note 8 roms. If I were you I would try flashing back to stock with Odin, are you rooted by chance?
hello I have the same problem on the settings is the n920f but on the boot loader n920p please if you have found a solution thank you
I recently had to change my Note 4 motherboard as the previous one suddenly went off and refused to come on. On the new one, i found that the model number says N910F. However, in odin mode, it says N910T, i downloaded 6.0 firmware for N910T to upgrade the phone but it has been stuck in T-Mobile screen since then. I will attach screenshots i took before upgrading the phone to this post. Thank you
Hey all. I decided to pick up a Note 8 Snapdragon variant LDU on eBay to see if I can get it to work on a stock rom. After researching through numerous posts on XDA and videos on YouTube, I took the plunge and decide to see for myself. I wanted to use a stock rom to get past the 70% battery cap on LDU's.
Some people claimed they were able to get it to run a stock rom and some failed. (Yes, this is a LDU. I bought it from a liquidator on eBay).
Here's exactly what I did (I've tried flashing many different roms, but to no avail).
1. Tried to enable OEM unlocking through developer options using date method = did not work.
2. Found me2151's thread on rooting Snapdragon variant of Note 8 = bootloop with QVPASS = 1 QVDONE = 1 prior to Samsung Note8 logo
3. Found a comment on me2151's thread saying they had the same bootloop... Solution was to check "phone bootloader update" (link here)
4. Tried above method in the comments and checked phone bootloader update = did not work, still on bootloop
5. Downloaded a stock rom for N950XU with Frija. ROM is N950USQS5CRL1, released 2018-12-27
6. Flashed the rom using ODIN v3.13.1_3B patched = did not work, "Security Error: This phone has been flashed with unauthorized software & is locked. Call your mobile operator for additional support. Please note that repair/return for this issue may have additional cost."
7. I'm still able to go into download mode despite that error, but I have no idea what to flash now...
Any help is appreciated! Just want to get it to boot to Android, don't even care if it's the retail rom.
Hey ,I have the same issue, also bought the phone from a liquidator last week, Did you find any workaround?

We might have bought it from the same place then.
Which bootloader version is your phone on? If you didn't flash a newer ROM and is still on bootloader rev 1, then you may be able to fix it.
hi, i was able to remove modem fail error by flashing a modified version of cp file
Hi all,
I'm coming into a such weird situation and I'll try to mention all the aspects.
I bought my note 9 a week ago from an online store (noon.com in UAE).
Seems like the phone is korean variant. Here's what is weird:
1- Model no. : SM-N960FD
2- model no. In the software (settings): SM-N960F/DS
3- phone's back at the very bottom (small text) reads: *N950F*
4- the phone was sealed and had samsung sticker which states it has never been opened before.
5- I came to realize that the spen has no bluetooth as there has been connectivity issue forever.
6- as i opened the hotspot, the device name is "DrKetanRom_5e10" which is a custom rom i believe.
7- I can't fine phone update section in settings.
8- The device is rooted when using root checker app.
9- phone status is custom.
10- SE for android status mentions DrKetan as well.
11- the camera lens has variable aperture which proves it's a note 9
12- knox status is 0x0!.
I am very confused! The phone seems totally new and is scratchless all around. I don't know if maybe Korean or chinese version phone comes with no android basic stuff as other shipped phones so Samsung re-installed the software or somethinhg?
If any body can help, that would be highly appreciated!!
Thanks.
Anyone?

If you go to bootloader mode you will see that it is n960n, not n960f.
I think these are SKTelecom phones from Korea.
they are original phones but have been refurbished or I don't know the exact term but they are repurposed to be sold like n960f - ds phones.
I also have a similar phone but I got all things intact no issues, I am actually running Dr. Ketan Q rom.
Only My Download mode shows some Korean stuff and I'm used to it from my note 4 days. I had an n910s
Just put your IMEI number on https://www.imei.info/ and it will show your phone details.
I also believe there are certain apps on play store that gives out device info.
All the best, since its already rooted just, go nuts with a badass custom ROM already.
Samsung Phone Information app from playstore has a refurbishment check. And yes it has been rooted with custom rom.

You are definitely correct, the model number in bootloader mode shows n960n! And download mode shows "download mode" in korean.
So can i just flash the stock rom of sm-n960f/ds and recieve the android Q whenever sasung releases it for the note 9? Or I'm already stuck now?
Also i coming from a note 3, so i have no ideas what are some popular roms for the note 9, also I don't want to loose spen functionality, so can you recommend a rom to install that is stable and saves battery?
Thanks alot for your help!

I would recommend that you install the N960N OS back onto it. As the N960N is a single SIM device. I don't know what will happen if you install a the dual SIM variant's OS onto it.

SM-N960F firmware is the same used for SM-N960F/DS. He should flash the Original firmware meant for the phone. SM-N960N.
Also, if his IMEI that pops up when dialing *#06# matches what is on the back of the phone, then he can flash the SM-N960F firmware.
Actually my phone is dual sim, and sm-n960n is a dual sim firmware.
IMEI is consistent in everywhere, with the box, with the back of the phone, when checking it on the internet.
I know that samsung will not support the note 9 after android Q upgrade, so shall i install a custom rom instead? If yes which one shall i install?
Is there a need - as of now- to install a custom rom, or the stock rom is fine (battery and performance wise)?
Or shall i go for stock android experience (project treble) to enjoy maximum performance?
What do you think?
Sorry for annoyance !
if you dont want it i might trade u for a brand new tmobile branded note 9. but u probably dont want it. (long shot)
im currently looking into what i can do with it if anyone knows feel free im also utilizing att but phone is tmo with device lock app untouched as of right now. . (needing leads)
jus wanted to get in on this thread so i can follow progress
It is probably a real phone but with the software modified.
Just flash the boot loader for n960n from Odin and the Twrp recovery then flash any rom that supports n960n ds or f rom. It works. I've tried ambasadi rom, the galaxy project and dr ketan. All worked for me. Just backup using TWRP and read all dev recommended steps before you flash anything. Or if you prefer stock there was a particular thread I think. All the best.
