Stop Screen from coming on when fully charged - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Does anybody know a way to prevent the screen from coming on (to the lock screen, not the always on screen) when the phone is fully charged? I have my phone on a wireless charger on my desk all day and it keeps topping off the battery but every time it hits 100% the screen comes on. So it's constantly charging up, screen on, discharging a little, charging up, screen on, etc...

I tried so many things with my N7 and nothing worked. not on my N4 either. it'll take something like root or other things to accomplish. I gave up and just deal. N8 due here shortly.

There's an app called SnooZy Charger. It's a Canadian app in the Play Store but not available for us in the United States Play Store for some reason. I have the link to the dev's page though. Download the zip (non flash-able of course) and extract the APK. Save it to your phone, install it and open settings, change "Connection status" to have the screen turn off when you either plug in the phone, unplug the phone or both.
Visit the entire site here.
If you just want to download the zip (the apk link no longer works) click here.
Best I can do with no Xposed or root. Hope it helps.

Thanks for posting this - I downloaded it and it works well. I usually charge in my phone after I am bed - and it annoyed me when the screen would light up.

I fixed it! I'm using AutomateIt Pro and I have a rule for charging/not charging and part of the rule on each is lock screen on/off and screen dim low (still playing with the number) and then screen back to normal when removed. it may not be perfect, but I am so tired of Sprint turning on my screen when it's finished charging or at random times. since I keep it on a wireless charger when not using this handles it for me. hope you all find your particular solutions. best of luck.

This should be a phone setting. Particularly annoying how it will routinely turn the screen on. Why doesn't it do that when connected to a charging cable?

Tasker isn't for everyone. I tried to make it as easy as I could by going step by step.

I got it set up and had it enabled. Something buggy with the app since other things are also not working. I'll play with it later. Meanwhile AutomateIt is giving me what I need until root.

I turned it on and then I tested it multiple times. did a bit of troubleshooting, uninstall, reinstall, add the item back, etc. something is buggy with my app. and it's really different from the first time I tried it years ago. really straightforward now, but won't let me do any kind of customization, etc. and save it. later I'll go clear my cache and see if that does anything. since my needs are handled atm I'll deal another day.

Thank you! This was also driving me nuts! I ended up having to leave it on the Wireless Charger in the kitchen overnight because the spouse is a light sleeper and threatened to shove my phone where the sun doesn't shine if the screen comes on again at night

I do not understand the screen turn off. Hoping you guys could help?

So i just got the Tilt last week. Been using it every day and would say that I am in pretty good understanding of how it works.
My understanding:
Screen dim is set to 10seconds - Meaning after 10 seconds of no use screen will dim (wont be as bright) this works perfectly every time
"Turn off divice if not usef for 1min" - From my understanding it should turn off the screen after 1 minute of no use and shouldnt come on unless I press the power button on the right.
This is where I am having issues. It wont turn the screen off.. it just stays at dimmed.
First let me explain how i have the phone set up since I think it has something to do with that.
I use it for phone calls, email (through Exchange), and text messaging.
Ive tested it a couple times and the screen turns off just fine if I have direct push (email feature) turned off in the Comm Manager.
However with the Direct push ON it seems to not wanna turn off... just dims.
At first I thought... well maybe it cant get email pushed to it if its turned off... but nope, if I manually turn the screen off (by pressing the side button).. and email myself.. sure enough the phone comes out of the turn off state and tells me I got an email... same deal with texts.
So I am dumbfounded. What is not letting it turn off the screen? The only thing that is running in tast manager is ActiveSync.
Thanks in advance for any help
Where do you leave your 400$+ device that it is unattended for over a minute? Mine is out, on, check mail, off, back in pocket.
it has nothing to do with being unattended... i just feel like i should be able to..
Pick it up -> Turn on -> Glance for new emails -> Put it back down.
Without having to turn off the screen every time... seems like it should do that on its own.. otherwise it would be kind of pointless to have that auto turn off after 1 min function.. right?
So... since that function is there.. and its not doing it.. that means something is wrong. so im trying to figure out what is wrong.
It could be a lot of factors so its going to be time consuming to find the exact cause of the problem. Not sure if your willing to hard reset the device to attempt troubleshooting from a hard reset with no other programs installed to rule out the ROM itself your using or if its third party software or possibly other changes/tweaks you might have made.
I know it works as it should for me with the Q-Mobile 1.2 ROM. Both the dimming and device power off setting work fine. And I have Push email enabled so activesync is always connected.

Some of us have a life...
I have the same issue... stock ATT rom, with lots of stuff on it. I'm pretty accustomed to using the power button to turn off the screen when I'm done. All 3 tilts I've had have this issue. I know it also happened running the stock HTC rom.
I am interested in a solution if anyone has any ideas.
I believe I had the same problem. There are two places to change the dim settings. One setting is under:
Settings\Systems\Power\Advance
Another is under:
Settings\System\Backlight\BatteryPower.
At that point I would make sure all these numbers match up that way you know it will dim and shut off at the correct time. One time is to dim, the other is to shut the screen off. Hope were talking about he same problem, and see if that helps.

Welcome. I had the same trouble, as I was irritated that the screen would shut off at 1 minute. Sometimes programs or installations take longer then that and with Wifi it can disconnect. Glad I could help.
The problem is related to Activesync and Exchange direct push.
I had the same problem. As long as Activesync is connected to Exchange the phone does not enter standby.
Try disabling direct push and kill activesync and then see if it works.
I had to configure activesync to check for mail every 30mins instead of direct push to work around the problem.
If anybody has direct push and standby working please let me know. I'm sick of this workaround.

Excellent.. changing the setting in both of the places mentioned above to 1minute fixed the issue.. now i have direct push and active sync on.. and it turns off after 1 min yay
Just curious, anyone have any problems with their screens turning back on after being off? I'm pretty sure this is related to my check email interval. Its not a problem for me anymore since I've been using slide2unlock, but before then Id pull my device out and all kinds of programs would be running...but I still get awakened in the middle of the night by a bright screen if I do not put my phone face down on my nightstand.

I've had that. Mine's related to SPB backup which runs at 3AM. Also, pressing any key brings this device out of standby as opposed to my Hermes where only the power button would do this. I don't really like this "feature" much as I now need to have keylock enabled to keep the phone from waking up.

Hi:
I hope I understood your issue correctly.
If you want phone to ONLY wake when you push the power button, you need to go to Start/Settings/System/KeyLock There, select the first option, which is lock all buttons except power button.

That is really strange. I'm using Dutty V3 and just tried activating Direct push. Setting Backlight and power timeout to one minute. After leaving the device for one minute the screen dims but does not enter standby.
If I kill activesync it does enter standby but Direct push stops working.

[Q] Power button not working, charging LED light always green and always on

Hello everyone, this problem happened randomly yesterday. So the power button doesn't work at all when it worked fine before, and the LED charging light is now always green and always on. Also, when I remove the battery and put it back in, the phone automatically turns on! So, does anyone know what the heck is going on here? I don't think it's a ROM problem since i've been using my current ROM for the longest time (Kang-o-rama with CM6). If anyone has any clue or hints, please share! I'd like my N1 to work again Thanks!
That is definitely your power button that died on you...I've read you can turn the phone on by charging and taking out the battery then putting it back, I guess it works for you.
Maybe you could try another ROM/kernel to see if the battery led issue gets fixed...can you turn the screen off with the power button or what?
Nope, I can't use the power button at all. Can't turn off the screen, haha, so I have to wait until it times out.
Well then, there's your problem
I highly suggest you use a sleep widget for the sake of your battery and you probably are using trackball wake anyways I guess ^^
sigh, all right. so what do you think i can do to at least get rid of the constant green light?
Actually, I can't find that sleep widget you were talking about. Can you show me one on the market or somewhere? Thanks!
I use one called Lockscreenwidget. You can find a version that has simply changed the icon here: Link. I changed the icon to suit my own purposes (You can see in the screen shot thread) but if you'd like one made using your own icon gimme a buzz, it's easy enough to change.

Certainly start by leaving it on the Google charger overnight. May take that long to charge up.
Also, hold the power button in for 30 seconds.
Purchased mail order? In-store exchange is the one advantage to purchasing local.

How To Shutdown WP8 ?

I have Lumia 520, with "soon to be broken" power buttton. Is there a way to turn it off without using power button ? by some kind of app perhaps ? I can turn it on by plug it in to usb cable and can reboot it by using quick tiles app. Only shutdown is missing.
Any suggestion ?

Cool your attitude, it's not gonna help. If you have a faulty unit, why not seek replacement or repairs?
I think tier3 apps can't shutdown the phone. There may be something useful in Nokia Care Suit, as it has the ability to put phone into various modes and such, maybe there's a way to shutdown the phone as well. Let me check...
EDIT: Yes, there's an option to shut down the device. However, because it's charging it'll want to turn back on, so you'll have to unplug the USB cable as soon as the display goes dark.
Which part of the power button is "soon to be broken"? If it is the part on the body of the phone, that's no good. Is it just the shell?

Okay, good suggestion. But it doesn't exacly what I need because it requires me to plugin my phone to pc just to shut it down. The application I mentioned before able to perform restart, and there is some application here on XDA for shutdown too (but for WP7). If a tier 3 application can do restart, why it can't do a shutdown ? How about native toast launcher, is there some kind of code I need to put there so "the swipe down to shutdown" appear on my phone ?

It is the body, not just the shell.
Apps aren't actually supposed to be able to do shutdown, I think... there are OEM drivers that support it, but there's no public API for it and it *should* require capabilities not available to third-party devs. There's a capability that an app can have to add it, but it's not even available to OEM apps...

As I said, NCS is your best option. But the phone is really useless without a working power button, so as I said, seek replacement/repairs.
If the 520 is just like the 521 the button should be attached to the shell. Just buy a new shell.

On the AT&T model there is an option, assuming you are referring to the capacitive buttons. Seems like a silly thing to remove from carrier specific models.

I tend to just be in this mode most of the time. and when I'm just listening to music, I'll triple click (setting on) to greyscale for some extra power savings without disabling almost everything that U. Power Saving does.

Carriers and their ignorant choices.... On AT&T "Wallpaper" is its own separate heading under settings, which is honestly just stupid. I can think of no reason they should remove the option to disable the capacitive light timing.
Just turn on power saving mode in the settings under battery
look at my thread, I done a tutorial on how to do it.
There's an app you can called "Galaxy Button Lights", it'll disable them for you. I've been using it since Day 1 of my Note 5 without any issues and I know many others here use it as well.
It's pretty much the only way as mentioned on Page 1,
Hope this helps.

no its not there is more than 1 way, I can count 3
Trying now will report back.
Touch key
It worked for me. Go to touch kry light and turn to always on. Then go to power save mode turn it on and then set to immediately. The lights should pop back know on.
International models are representative of Samsung's software that's clean and bloat free and if the setting to adjust keylight duration is not on those models than no other variant should have it. ATT software is cloneware .
