I saw today that the WiFi symbol and the LTE symbol were both displayed while I see the up and down arrows on the WiFi symbol working. What does this mean? What is it doing?
Thank you.
faster download option ticked.
when im downloading data, the phone will use both wifi and cellular to speed up the process.
you should see a lightning bolt (grayed out when not running).

Settings -> Connections -> More connection settings -> Download Booster
Or more easily, just use Bixby and say "Download Booster"
Of.course, it's not on my at&t version
Or check in Developer Options -> Networking section -> Keep mobile data turned on

Does keeping mobile data on really do the same as combining and managing WiFi and LTE connections for large files...Download Booster is needed for that, I believe.

No idea, mine is set to default (off).
Thanks for the replies. I am on AT&T, and I don't have that Download Booster option. In my developer option section, I do not have keep mobile data on enabled. And yet, I still get this dual icon (wifi and LTE) from time to time.
It would be nice to find out what exactly it is doing...
Download booster is a samsung thing. Carriers can elect to keep it or not.
Its not in dev options, its in the standard phone wifi settings as mentioned above. It does make a difference.

That's the thing sim unlocked versions without carrier branding may not have all the bloatware from carriers but they will be missing features that carriers enable or are carrier specific. I didn't have it on my unbranded exynos until I installed my carrier's features.
Download booster
Hi
I'm from italy and have no brand device note 8 exynos
Download booster don't start but the symbol above 4g connection appears....
What can i try to fix this?
There is some chance to verify of the download booster option run in a diagnostic mode?
Many thanks

I had the same problem where the 4G/LTE symbol remained ON even when on WiFi (S8/Verizon). Turned out to be a weather app that I wasn't even using (think it was Today Weather), but not completely sure which one. Uninstalled and LTE symbol is now off when on WiFi.
mine does the same occasionally. its called switching. means if either are weak, the other takes over. LTE shows and wifi, because i have both on all the time, and somewhere in connections is a setting for such.

My T-Mobile Note8 just started this 2 days ago. Turning Wi-Fi Calling On while connected to my home network removes the 4G LTE icon, and turning off Wi-Fi Calling makes the icon come back. One thing I've noticed is when I clear the memory via Device Maintenance tool, the 4G LTE icon disappears, but then reappears after a short time. I tried to watch the list of apps loading to see which one makes the LTE icon reappear, but the apps get shuffled around in the list. Anyone with ideas on which apps tend to cause this issue? I've uninstalled apps I assume to use mobile data and/or GPS location in the background, but I'm at a loss.

nvm... turns out that a June 26th update of the Amazon Alexa app caused the 4G icon to stay on at all times. GG, Amazon.
its Google Duo doing it, clear memory, 4g goes away as soon as i open Duo it comes on again.

I haven't got my Nexus 4 yet but I saw mixed comments made here and there that enabling LTE will result in GPS unable to lock at all.
What is your experience? Google Map still works with accurate location reporting? Google Now working or not?
What did you set the LTE to? LTE/GSM/CDMA? or LTE only? etc
Maybe indicate which provider you are with, looks like it is also a factor to consider.

I just went to a Bell store and picked up an LTE sim for $5. After I received the phone I went to mybell.ca and transferred the service to the new sim - took less than 5 mins.
GPS works perfectly fine. It is the cell tower location that doesn't work!
Go into your settings and disable GPS and Wifi and try going to Maps and you shouldn't get a location.
This has been discussed greatly in the LTE thread.
- *#*#INFO#*#* Phone Settings shows an Unknown under location and no neighbouring CID
- Since there is no location, Google Now fails to load properly
- HSPA establishes all locations as it should. Check *#*#INFO#*#* again

What is the real problem for Google Now? cant it get the location from GPS directly?
That's that I think. If you open Maps with GPS on, then get a lock in. The location will save into your cache or whatever. So if you open Google Now right after it will grab your location.

Happened once for me. I am on CM10.1, i have a button on my notification for enabling LTE, remainder of the time i stay on HSPA
I'm on Fido with rooted stock rom and haven't encountered any issues, then again, I haven't really done any extensive testing, I'll keep an eye on the GPS lock over the next few days and see if I get anything out of the ordinary.
so no one else is having issues with the gps when they are on LTE?
i'm on rogers in toronto... when i set preferred network to any of the LTE network settings my gps fails, gps works fine when its set to the default WCDMA preferred.
google now and any apps using gps locations fail for me on the LTE network... anyone have an idea on how to fix this?
I added these lines to build.prop in the flashable zip file's build.prop's end:
Code:
telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
ro.telephony.default_network=9
ro.ril.def.preferred.network=9
Factory reset the phone, and then flash the zip and gapps. in the Settings -> System -> Notification drawer -> Widget buttons
you can find LTE button there.
Once LTE is toggled, it hops on to LTE after a delay, it stays on HSPA+ first for about good 15-30 seconds before it shows full 4G and LTE in the settings.
Google Now works most of the time like this, but if you stay on LTE for too long, the location cache gets reset, Google Now wont get location until you go back to HSPA+

I only just made the switch today and I've been using it like the last 5-6 hours, so I can't really attest to signal strength away from home. That being said, my data speeds on LTE are consistent with what I had on the T-Mobile firmware (here at home), and WiFi calling may actually be working better now (not joking here, but again, very early here). VOLTE is working as it should as well. Call waiting is broken on T-Mobile, no matter what firmware you have... So this issue persists and it's known on the OnePlus Community forums.
I should also mention there is no quick setting to turn WiFi calling off (nor anything in the regular settings menu). Seems the only way to turn WiFi calling off would be to turn off WiFi, or use the log kit app (dialer code) to get into engineering settings.
Everything seems really good for me so far. I'll update in a day or so. When I go to work, my LTE download speeds break 100mbps... Let's see if that continues with the international firmware.

The international firmware does have *working* WiFi calling w/ T-Mobile, though the setting is kinda of hidden within the dialer app's settings menu (3 for button up at the top right, see screenshots). This is also where the VOLTE setting is found. Took me a while to find because there's like two different "SIM" settings menu, and I thought they were the same thing.
There is, however, NO quick settings tile. Perhaps an app like System UI Tuner or something similar could resolve that though.

I'm missing the option to set my device to 4G only. Under "Settings" -> "Network & internet" -> "Mobile network" -> "Preferred network type" I can switch only between "2G/3G/4G" and "2G/3G". I miss further options and especially to set it on "4G" or LTE only. Because my network provider is pretty bad at 3G but quite good at 4G, even when 3G signal is much stronger and 4G signal is weak.
I don't care if I can't take voice calls in this mode.
Edit: I see there are apps on the store to do this. Though would be great to do it within the ROM.

My old phone did, when LTE signal was weak (but still available), and I assume, any other phone will do so as well. But data was much more reliable within 4G than 3G, even when signal was weak.

4G+ Means LTE-Advanced aka True 4G, and it is faster than 4G. The only difference is the maximium theoretical speed, bandwidth and minimium latency you can get. 4G can reach speeds up to 100Mbit/s, while the 4G+ (LTE-A) can reach up to or over 1GBit/s, with less than a few milliseconds of latency.

Yeah, I had a feeling going with Vodafone is a mistake...
Working here with O2. They have a guide on the Vodafone website for the Pixel 4 so can't see why it doesn't work with the 5. https://deviceguides.vodafone.co.uk...ress the phone icon.&text=Press Wi-Fi calling.
Well, it's Vodafone. Apparently one of their geniuses has to add a line of code somewhere..
Anyway, the guide for P4 asks for activation from within the phone app's settings and the Wifi calling/Volte settings are missing from there on the Pixel 5.

Wifi Calling
works on my P5, also a 3 user
option is found under Settings, Network and Internet, Mobile Network, Advanced, Wi-Fi Calling
I'm on Vodafone and I don't have settings for WiFi calling either. Funnily enough when I got text message from Vodafone to download internet settings they didn't even have the pixel 4a/ 4a 5g or 5 on there.. so that's probably why people on Vodafone can't enable it because Vodafone themselves haven't added the phones on for WiFi calling

Okay so update for Vodafone users, I got it working.
Following the second link above, 1. Go into Vodafone app and turn off WiFi calling, restart phone. 2. Go back into Vodafone app and turn back on WiFi calling (wait for 3/5 minutes and then restart phone again (you should receive a text from Vodafone saying it's enabled on your account). 3. Go to call app > settings> calls>WiFi calling>enable.
It also shows on networking settings in advanced now too.
Now I'm connected to WiFi calling, hope this helps Vodafone users

What an arse i am, turns out the other caller was using their phone on speakerphone, made a few calls since and VoLTE is working just fine on BT Mobile.
Neither is working for me as well, but was working fine on my old phone.
What I noticed on my device is that it came from Google with the "KDDI only" build on it(see https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-5/help/kddi-variant-t4178033), which I suspect might be related to the issue.

As noted in the product pages and other information about the 5a, its being sold directly via Google. Has anyone ever figured out how to add WIFI calling to these devices?
I am under the impression if you want wifi calling on a certain network you MUST purchase a phone from that network (IE pixels, Samsungs etc).
I didn't really think about it. It "just works" for me on Mint, an MVNO on T-Mobile. I did use the USB-cable based method to migrate settings from the old phone to the pixel 5a before moving my SIM. But I don't think that was needed.
I was already using it w/ a previous phone, having gone to the Mint website to get the feature provisioned for my subscription. That phone was a retail phone I bought direct from Motorola, also not connected to Mint nor T-Mobile in any way. Originally, Once I provisioned it at Mint, the WiFi-Calling settings became available under Network settings in the phone.
Wifi Calling is working fine on Verizon.
Worked on AT&T pretty smoothly. Flipped the Wi-Fi calling switch under settings. Agreed to some at&t custom pages about 911, and 10 seconds later was calling on wifi.
Haven't been able to enable wifi calling with AT&T. Getting error EDS0060.
My T-Mobile US is working with wifi and 5g, no problems. I bought from Google to avoid crapware and locks from TMO.
I looked for the Wifi switch under settings and had none. It was the same with my Pixel 3a as well, and I am using Cricket. Signal at work sux so wfi calling would be good. I'm not there very often.
Still would be nice to have.

They hide it well - they don't want people to turn it off as it saves them a lot of bandwidth if everyone connects through their own wifi instead of a cell tower. Go to Settings/Network & internet/ then hold down Mobile Network for a bit, then go to bottom and select Advanced and look towards the bottom for Wifi Calling.

Thank You! I didn't realize you needed to hold the Mobile networks for a bit. Last time I just tapped it, went to advanced and nada. This time I found the switch and started activating wifi calling but errored out. I'll ty again later.

I don't think I can help further. Cricket is AT&T and does support wifi calling; the Pixel should be able to support their version. OTOH it may not be supported with your SIM card - if it is old you may want to see if you can get a new SIM card - just one possibility. There is a reason that wifi calling was not "on" by default. Edit: I assume your 5a came direct from Google, as mine did. Phones sold by network operators do have some modifications.
