On and off I see LTE+ on my unlocked Note 8. What does that mean?
It's for LTE Advanced. Here's an article. https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/what-is-lte-advanced-and-why-should-you-care/
I see LTE+ on my unlocked N8 on Verizon. When I measure the speeds, I get up to 100Mbps down.
I been getting 100-180mbps with tmo
I have att note8, I flashed to unlock firmware so I know it connected to lte or lte+
Thanks OP, been wondering this myself but figured it was greater speeds after running some speed testing.

I am considering getting a note. I know all the pros and cons of the att and international versions. My question was for those who have the unlocked att version, how good is the 4g speed on T-Mobile? I am ditching big red, and will be going with simple mobile which is of course T-Mobile. Just wondering, tia.

AT&T uses LTE, considered the real 4G.
T-Mobile uses HSPA+, some consider it 3.5g since a backbone upgrade isnt exactly deserving of another generation leap. This technology uses their '3g' frequencies.
Since AT&T & T-Mobile 3G frequencies arent compatible with each other and T-Mobile lacks in the LTE department.. the conclusion is:
You'll catch 2g on T-Mobile
I was on T-mobile in Orlando, FL with my Galaxy S, which got decent 3G speeds. When I got my unlocked international Note in November, I put my T-mo SIM into it. It only got 2G speeds, since the int'l Note doesn't have the 1700 band that runs T-mobile's 4G.
But there is hope. Rumor has it that T-mobile will release its own version of the Note on July 11. That's just around the corner.
Their 4G is only a rebranded 3G network that's been slightly overhauled. Max Mbps is 27. Regular 3G is 7.2
LTE is 100

Tmo's HSPA+ network has max speeds of 42mbps with real world d/l speeds of 10-25 mbps with good signal. Not as good as the 30-50 mbps LTE tests I've seen from ATT though

In that case, you should have asked the question in the I717 forum! ;-)

I'm thinking about picking up a used Note 3 to use on my AT&T account. Is there any reason to get an AT&T branded note over T-Mobile branded?
I can SIM unlock the T-Mobile, but would have to deal with locked bootloaders with AT&T. All the supported bands are there using the T-Mobile on AT&T, right?

I used the T-Mobile Note 3 for a while. I unlocked it using Chanfire's app. When using my AT&T sim card in it, I found the LTE to be horrible, despite supporting band 17 (700mhz) In places where I had average LTE on the iPhone, the TMO N3 would be on H+ or have the worst LTE signal. This was frustrating. I took it back. It was fun to flash roms and kernels though.
I got an awesome deal on a new AT&T note 3 where I couldn't pass it up haha. At first I noticed my AT&T LTE signal was not as good as it should be. I then created a thread about it. I cleared the cache in my phone and did a full factory reset. Now my LTE seems fine. Constantly sitting on -93db on my desk where my iPhone gets the same.
I'm pretty happy now with my AT&T Note 3. Rooting was so easy and gives me everything a custom rom would.
Yep, the LTE (band 17) on my N900T is horrible. My neighbor has N900A and we compared them side by side (with punching *#0011# and monitoring signal on both devices) and my N900T was always showing signal that was ~15db lower than the N900A. Gonna sell it. Will wait for Xperia Z2.
I agree completely with Matt and bormasina.
I just sold my N900T and bought a N900A and have noticed a dramatic improving, specifically in LTE bandwidth.
Hands down, the AT&T version performs better on an AT&T network. Go figure.

Yeah. Is it a coincidence that the ATT version perms better on the network it designed for? I'm sure ATT optimizes their signals in their phones for the proper frequencies.
I'm actually sitting in a place where my N900T would sit on a -105dbm signal and right now my N900A has been locked on a solid -89dbm. Night and day difference.
Go with the At&T version. The T-Mobile version is fine though if your on their network. But AWS still does suck in general when it comes to signal strength.

My Tmobile Note 4 runs on AT&T unlocked. Will I have similar luck with a Tmobile Note 5 on AT&T if I can get it unlocked? One thread points to a missing Band 17 on the Tmobile device, but I don't have a definitive answer. Looking for the benefit of rootable and unlocked bootloader.
what exactly is Band 17 used for though? 2G, 3G, LTE, Talk/Text?
is your N4 missing Band17 as well?
why not pick up an unlocked intrnational version?
(Sent from another Galaxy via Tapatalk)
It is missing band 17, which is AT&T's low band.
Otherwise, it works great on AT&T.

I pulled up an LTE band tester and I am using band 17 at my house on my N4. I take it that means the TMob version is out.
That's right, the TMO Note 5 left out Band 17.
Just wondering how did we know that our devices connected to LTE advance? or where should i enable it. In Samsung S7 Edge the sign in the status bar will show 4g+ when its connected to LTE advance, and only 4G when it is on Normal LTE.
In Xperia device it is like always show only LTE sign without anything like LTE+, or it should be somewhere to enable it anyone has a clues? please show your screen capture if you able to connected to it and how Thank you
I only have 4G icon all the time, never seen 4G+. I don't know why. Maybe because there's no LTE advamced around.

I'm in Thailand and ww have 2 operators now support LTE-A which is TrueMoveH and AIS. attached is my TrueMoveH carrier with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge you can see the plus sign just next to 4G means it is connected to 4G+ (4.5G LTEA whatever it called, but same tech of Carrier Aggregation AKA CA combine two band of 4g together to get the higher speed). Anyway speed wise for this post is slowww hahaha (notmally it is easily reach around 150-250mbps).
But my Xperia just show LTE and no any option to enable ot anywwhere so i would love for anyone to share in your country how it is looks when xperia x performance connected to 4G+ or any screen shot to enable it.

Do you have the Truemove Sim card in your S7E and an AIS Sim in your Xperia or are both phones using Truemove?
Have you swapped the Sim cards to see if the Sim card in your S7E will provide the settings for Enhanced LTE?
I have read through several threads about the Xperia X Performance and found that some users don't have the options in their settings to enable Enhanced 4G LTE unless the Sim card they are using is provisioned for it from the carrier.

I can confirm this.
Its not the phone that enables 4G or LTE but the sim card.
If your sim doesnt support 4G etc, you wont be able to access it.
I have tested it myself with a new and old sim card on the xp.
1 sim only alowed 3G, while the new sim gave me 4G.
fast69mopar i try swap things and did not see anything.
XxKYNGxX Thank you for answer, what i mean is LTE adavance not 4G LTE. All my sim are running normal 4G LTE but my S7Edge running LTE advance (4G+)

Okay. So, from everything I have read about TruemoveH and their networks, the Sony Xperia X Performance does support 3xCarrier Aggregation on their network. Even though the device supports CA and does work on their 3xCA there is not anything that will show up on the display to alert you when you are using it. The only thing that may give you a chance to see it is the LTE Discovery app from the Play Store. For example, here in the United States on Verizon networks, when I was connected to band 4 in my area, the LTE Discovery app listed band 4 as XLTE which is Verizon's was of telling customers they are using Advanced LTE. When you open the app, the LTE band is located in the top left box in the app. Below the band number could possibly show if you are actually using Advanced LTE. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I see 4g+ sometimes but the speed is not noticeable as 4g is fast enough.
4g+ on European nordic ?

any speed above 150mbps is LTE Advance.
Okay so i am not worrying about this anymore but in my openion they should show the most advance technology they got on screen for the user, like we have H and H+. We still got the best speed on towm on this device though
Thank you for all comments

If I remember, I think I did see H+ and H on my XP.
Guys, today i saw 4G+ icon on my XP for the first time. I suppose that was a LTE advanced itself.
I am interested in buying US version (Snapdragon) of factory unlocked Note 8. However, it's full specs on network/radio bands are not listed yet even on Samsung official site.
I looked in full specs for Galaxy S8 unlocked (SM-G950UZKAXAA) vs carrier version such as Galaxy S8 for T-mobile (SM-G950UZKATMB), and noticed that carrier versions all listed support for 4G TDD LTE: B38(2600),B39(1900),B40(2300),B41(2500), while unlocked version does not. As the screenshots show.
So will Note 8 unlocked (Snapdradon) also be missing the 4G TDD LTE bands (B38, B39, B40, B41)?
Or maybe the specs listed on Samsung official site are not accurate and unlocked also supports those bands? Wishful thinking.
4G TDD LTE is used in some countries like China. So anyone with unlocked S8 on tmobile traveled to China can confirm if 4G data worked in China with t-mobile SIM?
If the unlocked phone only has the benefit to switch carriers in US but has limited band support internationally, then I will have to think twice.
Yeah I was trying to figure this out as well. So far, from other sites, I have seen mix messages. One site FrequencyCheck.com states that it does have those bands and other show them is missing...not sure which one is correct. Also, for other sites I have seen that the T-Mobile version also has 3G TD-SCDMA: B34(2010), B39(1880) and the unlocked version has 3G CDMA: 800/1900. I really can not make heads or tails of this information....is it correct, who is wrong??? I called Samsung that they don't have the information yet, so I don't know either way. I'm leaning to go with the Unlocked by Samsung version, but I am in the same boat with regards to this matter.
Looks like it, i have a Unlocked verdion of the phone.
