When you have the main settings up (wifi/bluetooth/data usage etc) you can swipe from the left to reveal...a second list of exactly the same settings (minus the current value). Clicking on the corresponding option there seems identical. Is there any reason this second menu needs to exist? Seems like a bug, unless I'm missing something.
It's a nougat feature. See here.

Thanks.
I'm still not really getting it though. "...using the slide-out menu eliminates the need to tap the back button, scroll, then select another setting category." Yeah, but not instead of tapping the back button you have to drag in the menu from the left. I don't really see that as being any easier. Still, I guess someone must like it.

Well if you are deep inside settings and then wanted to quickly switch to another section, then instead of pressing back multiple times to reach the main page, you can swipe in (or tap the 3 line icon) and jump to the desired settings. It's not very useful though, maybe that's why it was not included in Oreo.

Ok, got it. Actually, I just went a little too deep into the menu (wallpaper) and the option wasn't available from there. But generally it is. And I still prefer just tapping back. I'm still puzzled as to why options (left drag, hamburger etc) are on the left when most people are right handed and so putting them on the right makes more sense.

Maybe it's on the left to maintain the Left-to-right UI consistency across Android (Like swipe gestures from left to right, or the brightness slider).

i dont like to use touch flo and would like to know if someone has found a way to disable it ?
thanks, eric
their is touchflo option in settings (under system I think), should allow you to disable it
Go to the the TODAY settings...
From the Today Screen:
1. Go to SETTINGS
2. Select TODAY icon
3. Select ITEMS tab (at the bottom)
4. UNCHECK the "HTC Home" item
5. Click OK and go back to the Today Screen
It should be gone!

the touchflo (finger panning) option is the one i want to turn off.
i still want to keep the htc home in my today screen.

there is only one checked box about the sound on/off when panning. no where to disable it.
I'd love to turn touchflo off. It seems pretty worthless. It scrolls a page to slowly and in PIE its hard to get it to stop when u get to a spot you want to view.

I had followed above with soft reset also, but still the "touch flo" function running in PIE. This is pretty annoying and useless function if you used to your finger scrolling webpages with PIE plus.
Another one can helps..Thank.
Try changing HKLM\Software\OEM\TFLOSettings\EnableScroll to 0 then reboot.
I haven't tried it yet.

That worked perfect neighbor. The touchflo scrolling made it near impossible to drag separator lines. I greatly prefer to tap in the scroll-bar field to page up/down. Thanks again.

Out of curiosity does that change also speed up PIE scrolling the normal way ? - cos it's super laggy and worse than TyTn in the out of the box setup.
Mike
Well if i hold my finger in the scroll bar field it will page up/down at 4 pages a second. The reg edit doesn't seem to have changed anything other than the touchflo scrolling
TouchFlO Scrolling and Sound
A Couple questions here:
Is there a way to tweak touchflo scrolling such that it only goes one page length at a time, instead of 4 or 5?
Is there away to turn of the clicking sound as it scrolls?
I'm assuming these are just annoyances of an immature feature that was rushed out the door, but hoping there are fixes available or that HTC is smart enough to fix the problems in future releases.

Have you even looked at the settings in your tilt\Kaiser? you would have found atleast on answer to your questions just by looking around and learning your device!
I guess to each his/her own, but I personally think the TouchFLO interface is a huge improvement in usability. Perhaps it just takes some getting used to. And with TouchFLO, you can still essentially do all the things you could without TouchFLO. E.g. the scroll bars are still there to be used if you like that. And you can still use the stylus for normal operations. There seems to be some confusion about how it works so let me explain the "use cases".
The way TouchFLO works is this:
- use a finger (not your fingernail) to "drag" the screen up/down (or even left/right if the page is wider than the screen). The page should drag with your finger. It's semi-smooth. Not truly smooth, but smooth enough. When you drag, DON'T lift your finger from the screen till you've got it positioned to your desired spot.
OR
- If you use your finger (not your fingernail) to swipe up or down AND LIFT your finger fromthe screen as you do it, then the screen with scroll by itself to the end in that direction or until you tap the screen again to stop it.
OR
- if you use the stylus or your fingernail, then it will NOT scroll like above. It will then behave like a normal stylus control (highlites and selects instead of scrolling).
So, the screen reads a broad touch (like your finger) differently than a narrow/pinpoint touch (like your nail or stylus).
once I got used to it, i found it to be an excellent upgrade in the interface. I don't think it was a "feature that was rushed out the door" at all. in fact that it reads the stylus and your finger differently speaks to the idea that thought went into it.
Use it on a web page to see the different use cases. If you browse a PDF file, it'll drag even with a stylus because you can't "highlight and select" within a PDF file, so it knows that use case is invalid.
Also, You can change the sensitivity by using a reg tweak: HKLM-DRIVERS-TOUCHPANEL-PRESSURE THRESHOLD. Increase/decrease it for more/less sensitivity.

Richard "Still Jonesing for a Tilt"
I wish there was a way to partially disable the Kaiser implementation of touchflo --specifically, the feature where if you drag scroll and your finger ends up at one of the edges of the screen (which is really easy on a 2.8" screen using your thumb) it goes into the continuous scrolling mode. I wish those edge regions of the screen were treated just like any other.

Thanks from me too for this tip. I don't use TouchFLO and I found the touchscreen on my TyTN II a bit annoying with this enabled. Sometimes it wouldn't react to tapping so I had to tap twice. This was maybe one out of every three or four taps.

Uhm...i dont have the arrows at the bottom of my map to easily cycle through the multiple search results. Was it taken out? Do i need to enable it (can see options/layers/labs)?
I am missing this as well. As a slightly less useful alternative, you can swipe left or right on the "detail" screen after clicking into one of search results to rotate through the results.
I was just looking for this too. Did they take it out? It's not there anymore when you do a search. How else are you supposed to scroll thru results? Seems like a very stupid thing to remove.

hey, in most other KK roms you have an option that the pull down menu goes immidiatly to settings if pulled from the right.
in sony FW it's only available if you use two fingers, but using the right corner of the screen is far more comftarble than two fingers, did anyone found out how and if this can be changed? i tried gravitybox for KK and it didn't work...
Thanks for the 2 finger mention, I didn't know that and I really like it.
In response to your question, gravity box does not work on 4.4 anyway (Breaks volume buttons) and it is unlikely to be fixed by the dev of GB.
I am sure there is a mod for it in the Home.apk, someone will look into it.
If you pull down from the right side of the screen you'll go the quick settings right away, if you pull from the left it goes to the notifications.
You have to put your finger on the screen right away, not pull down from the bezel down (in that case it works if you pause when the pulldown menu starts showing. The 'glow' initially is at notifications but goes to 'quick settings' after a very short time. Then continue the pulldown.
But as mentioned if you start the pulldown on the top of the screen itself you'll immediately see the glow at the quicksettings if you start at the right.
Hope this is clear
ps. sucky about gravitybox messing up the volume buttons btw, hadn't noticed that yet but you're right. Launcher crashes :/ Too bad as I use various mods of it (rescaling navigation bar, advanced power menu...). Hope a fix will be there soon.

That's also my idea. Until I have installed Xposed it worked that way. Now with Xposed it doesn't. But if you keep your finger on top of the battery while sliding down you are able to switch while sliding down. Got to get used to it.
This works for me
Just pause until the 'Quick settings' tab goes white (is selected) and then continue to slide down.

That was indeed part of what I was trying to say, but in my case it immediately goes white/selected (and thus to the quick settings) when I start swiping from the statusbar on the right side of the screen (not completely right, say where the 'quick settings' words are)..

Hey,
Not sure if anyone else has noticed but after the OneUI update I cant swipe down from top left to resize windows.
This was a really useful productivity feature when multitasking (especially at work).
you used to be able to enable "popup view" then you could swipe down from top left to "pop-out" windows but now the only way to do this is a long-winded long press on multiview window then long press again on the top of app then select pop-up view... its much less effective than just swiping down (also you need to follow this same process for each window you want to have floating...
Does anyone know how to get the older much better way of working again? - or has it gone for good?! :crying:
Cheers

It was already discussed a few times. It's removed, all the good multiwindow features that we had in nougat/oreo in galaxy phones are gone. The oneUI solution is close to the google stock one. No swipe from corner, no menu between two split screen apps, no fast way to split screen via holding recents or swipe/hold (but it fires google assistant for example), no hold card in recents for fast split or popout. Everything was removed and this is really bad for my productivity. Feature that was marketed, especially with the note 9 that is phone for productivity and multitasking, feature that samsung were praised for how much better is vs the other android makers solution - removed. Well, good job.
Wow, I had not realised all. Of that is now gone... Sadness!!

Wrong, if you mean split screen mode it still exists. On OneUi you gota open recent apps and then hold down on app icon to get a menu and from there you got split screen mode. Also popup window exists still aswell. Which can be found in same menu as split screen. Swipe from corner can be enabled again in settings on One UI

Read my post again, I never said those features are removed. We(I) were talking about the shortcuts that were fast and convenient. Simple two examples:
I am watching youtube, decides I want to also msg on viber. Before I can only hold recents - open viber and start typing without the video interruption. Right now you will go to recents, video WILL interrupt, you will press the icon on the card, select split screen, then viber, then you will press play and wait for the video to start. Second scenario is when you decide you want to switch two split screen apps place - there is no mid menu anymore, so you need to close/open them. pop-out is also a lot slower to do and with more steps. Generally it's 3-4 times slower to do the same now vs oreo and the funny thing is - they easily could had avoided that - popout from corner option in the advanced menu, swipe recents and hold for instant split screen (right now it's like that for google assistant - swipe and hold, never mistrigger it so it's good) and return of the mid menu between two split apps. Simple, but they removed it all. They even removed in the newer second base that was released after the first one a leftover for hold recents when navigation bar is on for instant split screen.
I am still expecting this option to be reenabled by samsung. It was seriously useful as hell and now i feel my phone is half broken

Try Nice lock from xda:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-9/themes/nicelock-module-download-links-module-t3923844
It's Good Lock for the places that can't get it from Galaxy store.
Everything you need is on first post, the launcher and modules...
Edit.
It doesn't bring back the hold down recent key for multiwindow though. You now have to have an active app running, tap on recent key, select and hold down the second app you want and slide it to top or bottom of screen to activate split screen.
Not sure who knows, but if you do a vertical "pinch out" gesture on the default OnePlus launcher, it brings you straight to the Hidden Space. I've linked a video explaining what I mean.

I did not know this.
Thanks!
I was playing around and just decided to try it. Who knew? It's like OnePlus his their hidden space gesture, waiting for someone to discover it.
Long press on an empty space on the home screen and enter the home settings. There is a selection at the bottom "Hidden Space". It explains this.
