wifi shuts off when phone sleeps? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

everytime when i charge my the phone, my wifi is turned off. I have to turn it back on, but it works fine. just wondering if there's a setting to leave it on.

Yeah it's in the advanced wifi settings. This is a setting that has been around on Android for a while.

check wifi control history, maybe there is some app that switches it off? Works fine on mine, are you using power saving mode?

Wifi Standby Policy

I was playing around with the Wi-Fi sleep policy settings and I am little bit confused how it really works.
The default setting is something like: "turn off wifi when screen is turned off".
So as I understand it it should disable wifi when the screen is turned off.
However when I checked my device list at my router it seemed that my n1 was still connected through wif, even after the screen was turned off. Only after 5-10 minutes wifi was really disconnected (when I turned on the screen again the wifi symbol in the top bar appeared after some seconds). I read somewhere that there is a difference between disabling wifi and disconnecting wifi?
BTW. the wifi sleep policy is supposed to save battery because it is said that 3G in idle mode requires less power than a wifi connection, but I read that with the nexus one the opposite is true. so what's the truth?
It's normal for the wifi to disconnect after several minutes of inactivity once the screen turns off. As for your very last question, I don't know... but I imagine that idle 3G is less power intensive than active wifi, otherwise it wouldn't be the default option...

Wifi Tweak ?

Hi
I am regular user of Yahoo and MSN and i use them over wifi but the issue that when i am connected to wifi i get disconnected when i chose "Turn off device if not user for * Min", but when i disable this option backlight turns off but still the light is on and this light is consuming battery uselessly
Any suggestion or tweak to keep wifi alive when Device is turned off..
Thanx
Use "Advanced Config" (3.3), go into "more settings" "Connections" and then enable "Enable Wi-Fi on standby mode"
That's what i've done, since i want to decide myself whether or not i want Wi-Fi active, not to let the phone decide... -.-
Thanx it worked .... Mods kindly delete the Post...
be adviced:
wifi running in standby AND charging the phone results in a really, really, really hot battery sometimes. so disable wifi when charging your phone over night.

Did you saved changes when you changed the wifi to be off when screen is off?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
Yes i saved the settings
I tried this on Kk2 and LA4
And same result not working
same for me with Cassie's Xtra lite and Franco kernel V5. Then as advised, i use now green power to switch off/on automatically wifi and datas connexions.. better than nothing.
I use Llama to do this. It does exactly what I want, shuts down WiFi 1 minute after I turn the screen off unless charging on mains, turns it back on on open, but only if I am at home or work.
That gives me everything I want (I have some apps that only sync when charging to save battery).

[Q] Wifi never goes off in sleep mode

I have a strange problem. I set the 'Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" to "Only when plugged in" but I see that Wi-Fi stays always on, also during sleep. In addition I noticed that the largest battery consumer is Android OS. Any ideas what's wrong?

Under Wifi Advanced Settings, you probably have the option for "Scanning always available" enabled. This keeps wifi available for location services, and makes it look like it's always on to the power monitor.
No. It is disabled

Your battery usage doesn't look off. Android OS is almost always the biggest battery consumer on mine unless I'm using the phone heavily. wifi is typically 3-4.
I easily get through a day on a single charge. Usually I've got between 20-40% left at night depending on usage.
As for wifi I don't know. Perhaps there is another app keeping it on. I would try turning all location services off and see if that changes anything.
I'm curious why you'd want wifi off. generally it will default to the mobile signal which will use a lot more power. only reason to turn wifi off is if you don't have access to it.

Mobile data turns off when I turn off WiFi!

Hi,
Anyone else having this issue with their note 9? So when I have WiFi turned on overnight and when I wake up and I go out of WiFi range (WiFi is turned off), I realize my mobile data is turned off. I would have to go under settings > connections > data usage to turn mobile data back on. I'm not sure what the cause is and it seems to only happen after long WiFi usage (like overnight). The weird thing is it doesn't always happen. I'm not sure if it is a battery saving things or something is turning it off. Please help! Thanks
