Persistent lock screen note? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I really love the lock screen note feature but would prefer to have one persistent note that comes up every time. I don't want to have to start a new note every time that I pull out the pen and would prefer to use one note that has all of my TODO on it so that I can cross things off once I finish them.
Is this possible/has anyone been able to do this?

Having tremendous issues with the Gear Fit

Coming from a Galaxy Gear and still using my Note 3.
Unfortunately, I'm having to significant issues with my new Gear Fit.
1. Sometimes, the auto-lock-unlock feature does not work. In other words, the ability to unlock my Note 3 with just a swipe up while wearing my Fit instead of inputting my pin/pattern without it. Simply, the feature just stops working out of the blue.
2. The Gear Fit synced with my AccuWeather.com app yesterday and the weather was visible on the clock screen, but not today. Today it shows a message and no weather for whatever reason (see pic)
Anyone else??

Sounds like you connection problems between the two devices..

Here's what I've got so far:
1. The Auto Lock feature is not consistent. Even though the G-Fit is in range of my phone, it sometimes still makes me do the pattern unlock. It was my understanding if my Fit is in range that would automatically unlock the phone.
2. S Health is not updated to the version that will work fully with the Gear Fit.
3. The wake-up gesture of raising my arm to turn on the screen doesn't work consistently. I had the original Gear watch and that seemed way more consistent. I'm hoping a firmware update from Samsung could make this better.
4. The Find My Device feature will locate the phone but only makes it vibrate, not ring which would be better. It also turns on the flash which is useless if your device is lying flash side down.
5. The Find My Device feature only works one direction. If I misplace my G-Fit there is nothing in Gear Fit Manager to make it buzz.

{HOW TO} - TIPS for improving fingerprint scanner on galaxy s5

HELLO FRIENDS
THIS IS MY FIRST how to THREAD SO PLEASE HAVE SOME MERCY ON ME
I HAVE TRIED THESE TIPS ON MY GALAXY S 5 SM G900H VARIANT AND I AM 100 % SURE THAT THESE VERY SMALL BUT HELPFUL TIPS WILL ALSO HELP ALL OTHER MODELS TO IMPROVE THERE FINGERPRINT SCANNER
1 JUST MAKE SURE KEEPING IT IN STRAIGHT DIRECTION
make sure that you have kept it straight
i know not being able to use the fingerprint scanner with one hand is a pain but if you adjust that way the you’ll have much more success and comfort with it
2 USE THE SCREEN ALSO FROM UPWARDS
i asked some people that how they use the fingerprint scanner and was shocked to see that many dumb ones don't use the screen mentioned above main button which holds the fingerprint scanner in it
so please start sliding finger right from the upper tip of the dotted space shown on screen to get good results
3 REGISTER SAME FINGERPRINT PATTERN TWICE OR THRICE
this is the master trick for improving accuracy believe me friends
in our s5 we can register up to 3 fingerprints { I BELIEVE IN FUTURE THROUGH UPDATE FROM SAMMY WE CAN GET MORE }
register the same pattern thrice and believe i get less error while unlocking the phone by fingerprint method
THE LATEST UPDATE ALSO PROMISES OF IMPROVED FINGERPRINT SCANNER AND HEART SENSOR
I CANNOT MAKE SURE OF FINGERPRINT SCANNER BUT HEART RATE SENSOR HAS BECOME MORE PRECISE THAN BEFORE
SO MY FRIENDS PLEASE TRY THESE SIMPLE YET HELPFUL TRICKS TO IMPROVE YOUR FINGERPRINT SCANNER AND SEE IF YOU GET SOME GOOD RESULTS
HAVE FUN WITH MINSTER GALAXY S5 :good::good::good::good::good::laugh::laugh:
A SIMPLE THANKS BY YOU IS ENOUGH FOR ME
TL;DR?
Debloaded guide:
1.Keep it(???) in straight direction. (?)
2.Drag finger on screen and downwards, as instructed.
3.Record more patterns.
:good:
Tips from me.
You can register several fingerprints in one "pattern", every swipe you do that is "successful" is recorded and will work fine. 'If I remember right there is 8 or 9 swipes, that will give you some room to have several prints in one "save".
Don't do the same swipe over and over, do some variations and you will have a easier time to unlock.
I recommend you do your thumb in a one hand grip aswell as your index-finger in the two and grip as instructed(but only use that one as a backup if thumb happens to fail).
I really don't see why people have such difficulty with the fingerprint scanner. Straight line down, not too fast...
LOL ?! I see no sense from this post ! Please close it !
The scanner is already pretty accurate. I can use three different fingerprints.
And i think the title sould be " How to use the gs5 fingerprint scanner properly."

You have not really told us much here, this thread is just patronising, the majority of people in these forums know what they're doing when it comes to smart phones

+1 buddy good tips
thanks for the tips :victory:
Is there any way to register more fingerprints?
Id like to use both my tumbs and both my index fingers, witch is 4 on total and we are limited to 3...
Quick question about unlock with the scanner - Is it possible to have the scanner unlock activated but also show a pattern/pin code unlock on the screen?
The reason i ask is because i have read that sometimes it isn't that accurate and so instead of just keep trying to use the scanner, i would just unlock it with a pattern
Mine always works, I must say though, the fingerprint scanner on the iPhone 5S was MUCH better and MUCH more accurate:crying:
I think so to,and more practical because you dont have to swipe your finger. I do have to say that i was expecting it to be less usable and it works better than i thought but still not at the same level as the iphone.
Anyone knows if there is a mod to have the screen showing the pattern unlock also? Just because sometimes the fingerprint doesnt work and i dont like the password metendo, so it would be more practical to just be able to unlock with pattern right away
Just to add a little to this. I've never had a problems getting the scanner to work and was pleasantly surprise as to how good it was but having to swipe down makes using it one handed a bit of a pain and I was searching to see if there was any mod to be able to swipe up without any luck though.
Then it dawned on me that down is only from the phones point of view so I now just flip the phone over as I press the front button to get the lock screen and can then use my thumb to swipe up to unlock the phone then spin it round again as the phone wakes up.
I have of course registered other digits so I can unlock it normally but being able to use it one handed increases the use for me quite significantly.

Anyone use the fingerprint scanner while having a case on the phone.
By the way fingerprint unlock also works perfectly when swiping up and holding the phone the right way up! ☺
Nice! Helpful thanks
working fine for me...
Mine is hit or miss....sometimes fail sometimes accurate...
Is it possible to wake up and at the same time open by using only home button....becoz for the first time im testing it on my galaxy s5 running lineage os 14.1.
Pressing home button while swiping is always fail to ooen lol...is there any way to fix this....
I want the way like s7 fingerprint wake and unlock with just preeaing the home button....

Just picked up this phone

I wanted something more durable especially when it comes to water and since I was switching to AT&T the Active was an obvious choice. I've had the phone for a few days now and I'm really pleased with it, especially the camera and battery life. The first day I had almost 4 hours of screen on time which was close to full brightness and still had over 40% battery left. I thought that had to be a fluke or something but it's clearly not. Now to the point of my post, why is this phone not very popular? Why anyone would choose the regular S6 over the Active is beyond me. Does anyone think we'll ever see root on this phone? I'm very pleased with it out of the box but there's a few things I'd love root for. Like why does there have to be a persistent notification telling me I'm connected to wifi. That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I couldn't believe it couldn't be turned off.
Edit:
Gotta change that sig as its all wrong now, lol.

What are some of your cons for the device?
I've heard various things about it, such as there's some faint line down the side of the screen on most all models.
Some people claim that the speak on speaker call sucks.
etc etc. Anything you don't really like about the phone that could be most people's gripe about it?
Mine works great. Nothing to complain about...

First, fingerprint sensor. I need security but entering pin/code every time I wanted to unlock the phone was cumbersome.
Second, is availability at the time of purchase. It wasn't apparently available with carriers in Canada.
Third, popularity, and community development and support. Galaxy s6 has more users, and therefore, more developers working on its rom.
Fourth, availability of accessories due to Galaxy S6 owner population vs Active.
I can overlook all other points, but missing the fingerprint sensor was a deal breaker for me.
For me, the lack of a fingerprint scanner isn't a deal-breaker. I guess I'm 'old school' or something. Though I understand the convenience of it.
I'm on the edge of picking up this phone, but, kind of worried about what type of specs the S7 Active will have and will it be worth the wait.
Currently with the S6 Active, my concerns are:
No Root (not a deal breaker)
Slowness of AT&T updates (not a deal breaker if ODIN is reliable and we can get timely firmware updates outside of AT&T)
Length of time it's taking to get to Marshmellow
Quality of speaker and using the speaker phone (I've heard that it's not too hot)
Lack of accessories (agree with you on this, doesn't seem a lot out there)
What I don't like about S6 Active:
Placement of the audio jack port. Really should be on the bottom, like the S6
No expandable memory option
No removable battery option (Not really a deal breaker if the battery has no issues and will remain effective for at least 3-4 years.)
Not enough bands to support international carriers and carrier aggregation support to the fullest by having as many bands possible (Not really a deal breaker, as I'll get a few where I am).
Touch-Wiz. Rather to to some stock android OS rather than have all the crap on the phone. (relates to having a root)
But beyond all of the above, the phone looks really really nice and I'll likely pick it up anyways, for lack of anything better, IMO.
I was thinking Nexus 6P, but it's just too big for me.
Nexus 5X, just kinda of too weak for me. (has less bands than Nexus 6P, actually)
I was thinking just a regular S6, but like the Active design better.
Just bought one,for durability, came from the V10 and loving it so far.
Succumbed
Well, I picked up this phone(64GB Version). Got it to update to 5.1.1.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this phone is simply beautiful.
The weighting and feel is also very very nice.
It's a quite zippy and fast phone.
So far, on the whole I'm liking this phone alot.
However some points I've come across. Any suggestions or resolutions welcome.
Minor Dislikes:
Forced to see carrier's name on top-left of lock screen (Not just specific to this phone)
└ I'd prefer to see useful icons on the status bar(left-hand side) during the phone being locked.
Notifications Management
└ In order to remove Heads UP notifications, I've had to download an application like: HeadsOff└ Some applications, in order to see the icon in the status bar, the rectangular static notification remains on the lock screen, wasting screen real-estate. There's no way to remove this static notification from the lock screen without adjusting the settings to remove notifications from the app, and then that removes the icon in the status bar.└ Some applications like Accu Radio won't show the player controls on the lock screen. No matter what combination of notification settings are used. (Not really the phone's fault but..)
Fingerprint Scanner Lacking
└ While the Active doesn't have a fingerprint button to scan fingerprint to unlock the phone, I thought Samsung had some models that used the actual screen to do this. If so, the option would be nice to have on the Active
Headphone Jack Location (Not just specific to this phone)
└ I still don't see why phone makers are putting the jack at the top of the phone. Many people put their phone in their pocket. The natural insertion direction is the way one is holding it at the time of use, the top goes into the pocket first. Yet if the audio cable/jack is jutting out from the top, it makes it hard to put in the pocket, as well as decreases the life of the cable, etc. (not a deal-breaker, but an annoyance for sure)
Touchscreen SUPER sensitive
└ I've found that the screen is simply overly sensitive to touch and find myself many times mistakenly activating something else, before my finger even touches the screen.└ Currently I do not have a screen protector for the phone, so not sure this will matter.
Other's Pain points:
Speaker Location/Quality
└ While the speaker isn't in the best of locations, I haven't really noticed and sound degradation/quality. It's a mini speaker. We can't expect blasting Dolby 7.1 haha
Active Key easy to press accidently
└ I have not found any problem with this, and I typically don't encounter having this button activated unintentionally with my day to day use.└ Some applications like Accu Radio won't show the player controls on the lock screen. No matter what combination of notification settings are used. (Not really the phone's fault but..)

Add another dislike:
Samsung Touchwiz and how it handles, doesn't allow handling of LED definition.
Unfortunately, Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, have blown up their Touchwiz and made it virtually impossible for applications like Lightflow, to define custom LED colors for applications.
The best that can happen is that some 'workaround' by the author of Lightflow can be used, but that just leaves the Badges and Notifications icons on the status bar for you to clear out manually, after reading your email or messages.
Price to pay to have any control over LED.....
Just one more reason I want root....

HELP PLEASE! SPEN sensitivity issue.

Hi everyone,
So I got my brand new note 5 yesterday. It's a gift actually. I love it till now specially cause I have been using a note 3 since quite some time now so the note 5 seems like quite an upgrade.
The issue is that my spen isn't working properly. I don't know why but it requires too much pressure in order to write something. The hover feature and the button work perfectly but when you want to use it to write or to scroll or when I want to touch it to the screen in order to select something or draw etc it requires too much pressure. I have tried changing the nibs but that doesn't solve it. I used the spen on my note 3 in order to check if it was the phone or the spen and the note 3's spen worked fine on my note 5 while the spen of note 5 required a lot of pressure in order to write on the note 3. I even checked another note 5s spen today on my note 5 and it worked fine. So I'm sure it's my spen.
In the previous versions of the spen, removing the button on the spen showed a small screw which was used to adjust the sensitivity of the spen but in this one that sensitivity is not present beneath the spens button and removing the button on note 5s spen shows up nothing and instead ends up removing the button which I then had to put back using some scotch tape.
So does anyone of you have any idea how to adjust the sensitivity on the note 5s spen because I don't want to spend $35-50 on purchasing a new spen.
Thank you for reading through this long as essay but in my defense, I didn't know how else to explain the whole problem. Thanks in advance.

Lock Screen Notifications

Picked up a Note9 yesterday, and while I'm 99% sure I know the answer to this question (I found a single reference to this being possible on pocket-lint, but hours of Googling didn't turn up how to actually do it), I figured it was worth asking:
Is there a way to simply double-tap a notification on the lock screen and have it open the app, like on stock Android?
I love Samsung hardware, I always have. But the one thing that has bugged me with every Samsung phone I've had is that you tap a notification, and then have to unlock, even if the phone is unlocked already using Smart Lock. I seem to remember on my S8+ (this was over a year ago, so I could be wrong) with the original Good Lock app, it enabled a much more stock-lock lock screen experience, allowing for double-tapping of the notification. It also gave stock status icons, and the new Good Lock doesn't do that, so that could be another feature that was depreciated.
