I'm trying to clear the system cache after the OTA 4.5 update but when press volume down and power I don't get an English option only text in Chinese (I think). Any idea how to get/find the English menu? I'm running stock and have a European version of the Oneplus 3t.
Sounds like maybe you're holding the buttons down a bit too long.. the initial screen for the stock recovery defaults to Chinese if you accidentally hit the power button to make the selection.. if you just hit the back button it should take you back to the main menu to select English.
And whipping your cache is not very nice!!! But wiping it gently is the way to go.. HAHA!

Whip it like this, whip it like that. Oh yeah!
Now to the original question, just enable advanced reboot from developer options and you can directly reboot to recovery.

I initially intalled CM7 after cleaning cache and Dalvik and backing up my current ROM using Clockwork. it went good unitil after booting I accidentally installed Gapps from 6.1
Now it boots and loops from the blue CM7 screen to the green andriod asking ' Touch to Start '
I dont know how to get out of this loop or to go bak to recovery manual mode. Please Help. Any chance we can fix this
Thanks
Pull your battery to get out of the bootloop. Then press and hold home while pressing the power button. That should take you to your recovery, where you can wipe and reinstall CM7.

EDIT: I am late to the party, nvm.
I did what you said. When i press power and home button the only menu option i get is 'Clear Storage' to which i pressed yes and 'Menu reset' which i pressed yes. it reboots and back to the loop. Back to loading CM7 and 'touch to begin'
The party is still on. As said installed CM7 with Gapps for CM6 accidentally and now stuck in endless bootloop. Trying to fix it. First suggestion hasnt worked so far
OK so you don't have a recovery (I'm guessing you tried to use rom manager = bad idea). Do you have ADB?
I think I do but have never used it ir dont know how
Is there any hope of recovering the phone or is it just better to get a replacement from Sprint

You need to pull the battery, press volume down + end button (at same time) in order to get to the bootloader. You should then see the skateboarding androids. Press the home button to get into recovery and wipe/format boot, system, data, cache (just to be sure) and then reflash and flash the right gapps.

I doubt sprint would even look at it, let alone fix it or replace it, once they see that you rooted.
Also, I've flashed older gapps with cm7 and didn't get loops. My guess? You forgot to data wipe before installing cm7.

Thank you so much. That finally got me into reboot. Now waiting for reboot with fingers crossed Thank you
Well something went wrong and for all you guys out there with Sprint. They did replace my phone. All i had to do was call and tell them that I was at their Service center to fix the phone and those guys couldnt fix it and it is stuck on the boot screen. But i think i will manage to salvage this before my replacement arrives
Lessons Learned
So the big lesson here is when you need to get into recovery press the volume down and the home button simultaneously and your home free. Thanks to all who helped
Update - Issue Solved
So i did mange to get into recovery and wipe everything off and reinstall cm7 again. Now i hope to flash the right gapps and ill be in gingerbread heaven

If you have a sprint hero, that is actually not correct.
hold home and press power = recovery
hold vol down and press power = bootloader
I don't know what's up with your phone, and I'm glad you fixed it, but if I were you I would reflash a good recovery image just to be safe. Also, make sure when you're getting ROMs you get them from a thread in hero cdma and use the gapps also linked in the OP of that same thread (don't use rom manager IMO). Always flash from recovery and follow the correct steps, that way you should not run into "issues" again. Also, my best encouragement for you, is to search and read. Happy flashing
If you have big fingers, pressing the power button can sometimes press the search button or back button, often causing you to boot into bootloader instead of recover.

Yeah, I have to use my thumbnail which will eventually chip off the paint or whatever it is on the button.
Ha. I actually place the phone on a flat surface a press the buttons.
Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
Hold down the HOME button and then hold the POWER/END CALL button til the phone screen comes on and that should boot you right into recovery if you're having problems with the volume down method

Okay, so first of all, thanks to all who take the time to actually look at this thread.
The Problem
Okay, so, my little brother has the Galaxy Mini, he set a lock on it (you know the one where you drag your finger to the points on the screen? the 3 x 3 block of circles?) Well, anyway, he forgot his password and has now had his phone "system locked". Anyway, there is an option to sign into his google account on screen though and that would solve the problem, but guess what? Yep, you got it! The little cretin has forgotten his email and password. I tried mine but that didn't work, so I guess it has to be his own.
My question is this: What if anything, can I do to solve this problem?
Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

You didn't happen to root using SlapMyMoto, did you?
If so, you might want to read up on what that rooting process does to your stock Recovery.

Volume up is select. I believe you scroll around with volume down and use up to select. Weird, I know...
Yes that's the way I do it.
By the way I rooted my phone with RockMyMoto.

If you're rooted, you don't have a recovery. Recovery for us bypasses write protection. You shouldn't have done anything to warrant the wiping of the cache. So, don't worry about it.

Yes seams so, i am booting into recovery when i want to change something in /system, which disables the write protection for the time being.
Thanks anyway.
I'm running deviant development rom (Jameson's rom I think). I would be specific but, i can't boot it up.
So what happened was... I decided to change kernals because I was getting some reboot issues.
Wiped cache and dalvik. Installed the Nadia kernal. Wiped cache and dalvik again just to be thorough.
Tried to reboot phone and the Samsung splash screen comes up for about 2 seconds. Looks like it's about to boot and then nothing. No matter what I do. Hold volume down button and power (no boot to recovery). Hold volume up and power (no download mode).
Wtf?
What can I do to get to recovery so I can install my backup?

ummmm you are the man!! I swear that since I've gotten my Note 4 that I have been using volume down and power to boot to recovery and it's always worked. Maybe I'm thinking of my SGS4?
In any event, I'm now in recovery and I should be good to go from here... thank you guys!
Ah yes, the good old finger exercise to get into recovery/download mode lol
lmfao... i can only imagine the sense of relief. amongst other feelings.
True ^ like stupidity and anger (from being so stupid) lol
But hey, I'm up and running so no harm no foul lol
nope... and your not out hundreds of dollars. glad youve got it going . be careful lol...
Not sure if it was the new UI or Android 9 but has anybody else noticed that the start up seems to take ages? Certainly longer than previously?

I experienced the same issue as you after pie upgrade. However sorted it by wiping the cache. Now it's back to normal. Give it a try.

It's very simple. Turn off ur Note 9. Once it's off wait for 10 secs. Then press the volume up + Bixby + power button together. Once you see the Samsung logo let go off the keys. Now you select wipe cache partition with volume up and down keys. Press power button to confirm. Once done select reboot now. That's it.

If wiping the Cache Partition doesn't work. Back up your device and perform a hard factory reset. That should resolve your software issues.
