Not sure if it was the new UI or Android 9 but has anybody else noticed that the start up seems to take ages? Certainly longer than previously?

I experienced the same issue as you after pie upgrade. However sorted it by wiping the cache. Now it's back to normal. Give it a try.

Great thanks for the speedy reply. I'll just google wiping the cache and let you know if it worked

It's very simple. Turn off ur Note 9. Once it's off wait for 10 secs. Then press the volume up + Bixby + power button together. Once you see the Samsung logo let go off the keys. Now you select wipe cache partition with volume up and down keys. Press power button to confirm. Once done select reboot now. That's it.

If wiping the Cache Partition doesn't work. Back up your device and perform a hard factory reset. That should resolve your software issues.

Wiped Dalvic using CWM to prepare to restore an older kernel. Now frozen on screen with Reboot Recovery as top choice. No buttons do anything. How do I unbrick?
I have had the same thing happen a lot with 3.0.1.0. Just hold down the power button until it shuts off, and the turn it on like normal.
Not sure what is going on with wiping cache and causing this, but I hope a fix comes out soon.

I run into this problem every single time when doing any kind of CWM work. As posted above, just hold down power button, and if you need back in CWM just hold down the power button and the N button for 5 seconds after the reading screen.
Worked! Thank you!
I found a way to keep it from locking up when wiping dalvik.
Go into wipe dalvik as normal but don't press yes.
Back out of the menu (power button) I then wiped battery stats (I don't know if this step is required) .
Then wipe dalvik like normal and it won't lock up.
If this works for others please post it in the dev forum (not enough posts yet) .

Just tested it again, no need to wipe battery stats.

So just hit "Wipe Dalvik Cache," hit the power button to back out of the menu, hit "Wipe Dalvik Cache" again, and then hit "Yes"?

Wat exactly option you seen in rcovery?
Can you post pic of recovery?
And are you sure you are in recovery mode?
Switch off device
Press Home + Vol up + Power
release power once you see samsung logo
now you will have few option and select wipe data (select with vol up/down)
enter choice with Home if you are on GB/ power if you are on ICS
I can't do anything at this point. What I can see is on the picture. Before that I just press volume up + power and home, from there factory reset, wipe everything and this is how I came to what you can see on the picture. Any suggestions

Pleease help me i have problem with galaxy advance in charge jake i used hot air on it without remove it then home button and back and setting button all of them does't work any more what problem?
I'm trying to clear the system cache after the OTA 4.5 update but when press volume down and power I don't get an English option only text in Chinese (I think). Any idea how to get/find the English menu? I'm running stock and have a European version of the Oneplus 3t.
Sounds like maybe you're holding the buttons down a bit too long.. the initial screen for the stock recovery defaults to Chinese if you accidentally hit the power button to make the selection.. if you just hit the back button it should take you back to the main menu to select English.
And whipping your cache is not very nice!!! But wiping it gently is the way to go.. HAHA!

Whip it like this, whip it like that. Oh yeah!
Now to the original question, just enable advanced reboot from developer options and you can directly reboot to recovery.

Try from eRecovery
Power off the device, hold volume up and connect the charger, white EMUI screen should appear with a wipe cache option

Thank you for your feedback. I tried that, I only find the option Clear Data. I do not know what exactly happens by clicking that....

Try it without the charger, power off the device, hold volume up & power until you see that same white EMUI screen
See if the clear cache option appears
Why do you want to clear the cache anyway? It automatically does that after installing updates
Click on clear data, then open the second page, to select clear cache
