Came across this new TWRP 3.1.1-1 mod by NFound.
Since i've contacted the developer to publish this mod but he's not responding and not on xda since september, i thought to share his work. All credits to him !
I've tested it and it's working OK. But back on 3.1.1.0
Some altering was made, fancy color....
Judge for yourselves

I think it's not a real 3.1.1-1 version.

Didn't look into themes. Will test that too.
Like i said : just came across, installed it, made some backup etc, wiped...all ok but up to you to test it more and make conclusions about it and judge
EDIT : I could install a new theme on this TWRP version. In this case the Mat.recovery.theme
So themes work or perhaps you mean something different/else ?
COMPARING 3.1.1.0 to 3.1.1.-1
In next pics you can see some basic changes that were made. Not sure they are new (i'm not a TWRP guru :cyclops but certainly different to 3.1.1.0
IMO this is another version/MOD since new themes do not change text and features.
Perhaps some testing can be done by other users and share their opinion.
I read on a german forum that a black-themed version of this exists and that 3.1.1.0 themes would work on this.

Backups of 3.1.1.0 are not recognized because the 3.1.1.1 saves to another folder. Any files also different.

Yeah the name of the save folders can be different. No problem there. Just put your old backups in the new folder created by 3111.

Didn't test it already with this version but had the same thing with other versions of twrp in the past. So I don't see any problem in that. Can test it tomorrow or you can test it yourself by putting an old backup in the new twrp folder :good:

Did the test to restore 3.1.1.0 backup with 3.1.1.1 (by putting it in the new TWRP 3.1.1.1 folder to be recognized) : it restored but gave an error : twrp unable to find file system (first period). After reboot everything seemed to be ok though and everything worked.
Did also take a system backup with 3.1.1.1 and restored. Restoring ok without any error message.
So ADVICE : when using TWRP 3.1.1.1, first take a full backup. Or when you want to restore older backup, flash 3.1.1.0 first and restore as usual.

Dear,
if you dont touch nothing by default dpu extension files gives you that. For example if you had a old backup just backup does a small update backup as in this screenshot.

Great concept. Got to understand the thing.
will it change the previous backup? can we still restore?
Does it have the same bug as the previous one that was corrupting cache partition?

This is further to my quoted post.
I made two backups of my ROM.
The first one to external card (I am on stock v20h modded by Flix) where I had previously two full backups stored - made with regular CWM. Out of the two full backups - one is of the default FROYO ROM when I bought the phone and another is of some other Custom ROM not related to v20h. Now this CWM made a backup of only 28+ mb.
The second backup I made to internal card where previously no CWM Backup existed. But again the v20h backup created by this CWM 6 (touch) which is only for 28+mb.
Its very good since so little space is being taken. But wherefrom CWM is taking its reference as the main backup on which this incremental backup is created?
I have no problems with this but only for the sake of curiosity I am wanting to know the details of this great concept.
I have still not tried RESTORE. I will try that from the backup created in my internal memory of only 28+mb and report back.

Its use the sdcard/clockworckmod/blobs files to check and recover if an error appears so its better to get all the backups in your sdcard, i´´ never use internal memory for do backups, and like you said its take that as reference from the blobs

Thanks. Now I understand. Once it stores all necessary information in "BLOBS" folder (which is of 790+mb in my case) and makes backups of <30mb each time I backup a installed ROM. Good one.
Tested it now, everything works perfect.

It was actually risky to try this root method for my aunt's A3500 HV as I had just bought it for her on 24 Sep 2014.
Originally I bought the tablet with android 4.2.2 and it was get rooted by RootGenius__lenovohome v 1.9.6. When I found this thread, I updated the tablet into FW version A3500hv_a442_01_32_140805 (android 4.4.2) by flashing tool. When it was successful updated to this version, I was noticed via OTA a newer version, FW A3500-HV_A442_01_35_140911 immediately after the first boot. I went ahead with downloading and updating the newer version by OTA. I felt it was so much better with the latest version with rapid lock GPS, better screen display quality and better sound quality as well.
As I was afraid to get brick the tablet in this thread, I tried to root the tablet again with RootGenius__lenovohome v 1.9.6 again but no lucky. As the result I decided to give me a chance to try the root method in this thread for A3500 HV with my own risk as I thought it can be unbrick by re-flashing a FW. Luckily it was rooted successfully with the instruction in this thread. It was a magic. :good::good::good:

Thanks for the reply well I new that they had put some extra security in the new kitkat version so that you can not root but when you use the recovery then you are installing the su file when android OS is is off so the security can't catch you
All right one last question have you tried making a nandroid backup and restoring it up until now if so and successfully please say so
Also if you do not know what a nandroid backup is it is just a backup of an entire operating system and can be used if the system gets bricked and it is totally harmless all it takes is 5 min since you had done the dangerous part and if that works can you check out nandroid restore because if the backup worked in success then there is a 97% chance that clockworkmod restore works o and there won't be any loss of data because you are doing a restore of all the data you backed up seconds ago
If there is a single error message after even after the backup and restore is finished please report it
The backup is totally harmless so if you can just check that I and all the HV version around the world would be very great full thanks in advance.......:fingers-crossed:

Actually I'm pretty sure that KK FW of A3500H does work on A3500HV then I think that the root method will work on A3500HV either. The only different thing between A3500H and A3500HV is call function, I think so.
I did try a Nandroid backup on FW 4.2.2 actually by using the recovery in this thread before upgrading to KK FW. It took about 10 minutes less for the backup procedure to be done without any error and it was written on CMW/BACKUP folder on external SD card (16GB was used). I noticed that the backup steps were similar to any Nandroid backup on CWM recovery: backup boot, recovery, system then data... later generating MD5 checksum. I haven't tried to restore this backup as the update KK FW works really great.
I also tried to flash zip FW (the latest one with build number A3500-HV_A442_01_35_140911) which was found on this link https://yadi.sk/d/KY44k2XDba5Mw from the Russian Lenovo Forum when the tablet was on FW 4.2.2. However, it was not successfull as the recovery said that there was nothing found on the zip to flash. I had no idea about it. Maybe we cannot upgrade to KK by this way when on JB FW or this CWM recovery (which is customized for A3500) can't be used to flash rom. Then I have to upgrade it by flashing tool and FW found on this link: http://lenovo-forums.ru/topic/7809-прошивка-lenovo-a7-a3500hv-a442-01-32-140805-row-call/
Link to the forum: http://lenovo-forums.ru/forum/289-прошивки-lenovo-a7-a3500/
The tablet is not with me now as I just bought it for my aunt so I don't have a chance to try Nandorid backup when it is on KK FW. If there is a chance to do so, I will report it shortly.
I think it would be great if we could have flashable custom rom for Lenovo A3500HV via offical custom recovery.
Good luck!
Cheers,

Use a more updated version of cm12
Go to the CM12 thread and go to comments and check some people have ported the updated version like 2412015 and various Valdius based ROM.
Use that and with same KERNEL boot IMG
Regarding installing APK, I think if you update to these version it will get fixed!
I couldn't get what really the problem is

So that means when we are using CM13, we can revent back to stock by just restoring our nandroid backup?
Works fine, but you made a mistake in assert lines il your CM13 updater script, you wrote hi2650 instead of hi6250 haha

Hi,
using the dns of google (8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4) the site is unreachable.
Solved thank to opendns.
Hey Meticulus. When I was going to flash your CM, firstly I wiped all the partitions including system. Then I thought maybe restarting the recovery may be good idea. Afterwards the recovery could not boot and the screen was flickering. After some time I figured out that the chinese TWRP worked. So if there is no system installed the recovery couldn't tell if there is stock or CM installed and so it did nothing. Could you look into that? Maybe I am wrong. Thanks.
twrp no full support selinux. how to fix? I'm on stock

Did you restore a back up while on CM without restoring the "dump"?

If you did a dump and have the files then restore the dump ( follow on screen instruction at the end ) and the restore your back up again. If you do not have a dump then you'll need to go through the process of restoring a stock ROM. To be honest, I've never flash a stock ROM but there should be plenty of info around here about how to do it, and plenty of people willing to help you with it.
Hey :good:
Ive got some questions and hope somebody can help me here!
I've got TWRP 3.3.1-46 installed.
I can backup the boot, recovery, system image and vendor image without any problems. However, when backing up the data, I keep getting "createTarFork()" with error 255. I have been searching on google for some time, but have not found the right solution. Has anyone had the problem with MI9 before?
Furthermore I use "titatnium backup" with the pro version to backup the apps. But since a few months I have a lot of problems with this apps too. During the restore the app hangs or the apps are not restored and I have to intervene manually again and again (out of 120apps this concerns about 30). Does anyone have a good alternative?
thank you so much!

1 I've had the same, you can find the problem in twrp log. For me it was the empty folder data pre_boot. Deleted and ok.
2. I've the same prob. Some apps didn't restore, only if you installed first manually the app and then restore is working.

Yep, same issue here fixed the same way:good:
You'll need to use a file explorer with root privileges to go to the /data folder, keep in mind.
Maybe twrp explorer could do it as well?

that would be good yes. I cant find a folder that name is "pre_boot"?
1) The official TWRP version for Mi 9 is 3.3.1-0, based on last version of Mauronofrio 3.3.1-52. So I suggest to first migrate onto the current version and to try again.
2) Many problems have been reported for Titanium Backup. I'm using Swift Backup instead without any issues so far.
Cheers

It's exactly Per_boot
(Unsure about the underscore)

I've been using Swift for quite some time and it certainly lives up to it's name. It backs up so fast compared to TB that at first you assume it can't be working right. I've never had a problem with backup/restores and the UI, especially in dark mode, is great. It will also easily backup sms messages, call logs, wallpapers and wifi settings.
Can't recommend this highly enough.
sooo guys!
ive tested swift backup and it works like charm! awesome no errors or problems. Bought premium directly.
after flashing 3.3.1.-0 twrp and deleten folder pre_boot now it works too!

Swift backup is really good, but I need to restore sometimes system apps and so I've to be with titanium. Also I'm using freezing apps and other things which aren't possible with swift backup.
