What processor does the stock UK Note on contract have from EE?
I am sorry that this has probably asked a million times but I can't find the answer.
Thanks
All UK networks sell the Exynos 8995 model. Snapdragon is only USA, Canada, Japan and China (H.K. & Macau). It's on the Note 8 Wikipedia page BTW.
Just a word to the wise. I got my last phone, the Huawei P9, from EE on contract. They locked it down with their own BS version of the ROM, then withheld updates for it. Huawei released the P9 Nougat update and security patch in January, but up until I switched it off a month ago when I got my Note 8, there was no update. EE blamed Huawei.
If you get an EE one, be prepared to have to root it and get a stock ROM on there to stay current. EE are lazy assholes.
My note 8 is ee.and there is zero bloat ware from ee.no ugly ee boot screen and no nasty ee software. Built in.it looks like it's complety unlocked. I've all ready had 2 updates since I've had the phone for 2 months so it get the updates as soon as there released
There actually is a little bit of bloat on the EE/EVR firmware, they bundle My EE and Lookout Security. What you get over and above that is VoLTE, you can't get that with the generic firmware but you do get Wifi calling with both XEU and EVR, presumably with BTU also.
I haven't seen EE branding any Samsung devices for quite a few years now, so no issue there as haircut123 noted.
As for slow updates, it seems that EE's sluggish updates have been resolved for Samsung phones for a couple of years ago. Their updates for the S6 range were almost criminally slow, S7 didn't seem too bad and S8/Note8 are running just a few days behind from what I've seen.

Has anybody in the uk received the ota to august yet?
Or are the carriers still purposefully not allowing it. That's the official HMD reason they gave me recently . Lol
I'm on o2 no update yet
Whoever you talk to they will explain how updates work and you just need to be patient. 2 months I was waiting on my 6.1 with no update. Moved up to the 7plus as apparently there were no update issues. There is with the august one. They wont even look into it just give you the same spiel how it's the carriers etc etv etc. Android one?????? Still a good phone though
Strange, I am on EE and still no update on my 1055 but got the August update on my Nokia 8 1012, same carrier, 2 weeks ago. Go figure.
Sent from my Nokia 7 plus using Tapatalk
No update here on Tesco/02 either
On GiffGaff and no August update as yet
TA-1046 (this is the European dual SIM model) On 3 Ireland - no update.
Thinking to sideload.
Can you see any improvement after manually updated?
1055 in Ireland on 3 (Hutchinson) No update yet.
No update yet for 1055 on BT Mobile or EE in UK.
Sideloaded. Its definitely smoother and snappier.
No idea why HMD are ignoring this issue. These phones could steal market off samsung etc but the customer support is lacking here. Sad
No update with SIM card on the tray. After removing the SIM card and checking for update, the update appeared.
TA-1046, plusnet (EE)
Hey XDA, I've got a question about phone software updates that maybe someone could enlighten me on:
What determines when a particular phone will get an update? I guess I'm not entirely clear on how updates are rolled out.
For example: I have a Note 9 that I bought refurbished. It was originally running the AT&T version before I flashed the unlocked firmware. I currently use the note 9 with unlocked firmware (no carrier specific bloat, just samsung and facebook stuff) on the TMobile network.
Since I've started using the phone I've always been about a month or more behind on the latest updates. Currently I am on the December 1st 2018 Security update and I have been patiently waiting for the Pie update. Who/what determines when I will get this update? Is it Tmobile, At&t or samsung
OS Update releases are dependent on when the device manufacturer would release them in what country.
Being unlocked currently, you are waiting with the rest of us to get the update after the other 4 carriers have released it. Right now we are all waiting on TMO, once they have released we should not be far behind.
They do this to make sure there won't be any issues regardless of the carrier you are on. Sucks, I know.
I know in the past, before the S10, Samsung was pretty terrible about getting software updates to the unlocked versions. Taking several months longer, than the carrier versions.
So how did Samsung do with getting unlocked software updates on the S10? I'm curious to know before I decide which Galaxy S20 I preorder.
I have a Verizon S10 and I was quite pleased with the promptness of the software updates. I'm impressed we even got Android 10.
I was in the beta and my unlocked was a couple of weeks at least behind the beta people with locked phones when the final came out.
Same question here. I was looking at firmware listings on sammobile and it seems that at least for the latest firmware ...CTA3 U1 versions are dated 02-03-2020, whereas for U model only T-Mobile has CTA3 and is dated later 02-09-2020. Would love to hear from someone with unlocked model about their update experience. I've stopped buying unlocked precisely for these update delays, but would love to loose T-Mobile crap and silly 4/5g LTE icons if Samsung has gotten their act together.

I'm running an unlocked S10e on T-Mobile. Got the February security update on 4Feb. Wife's S10e we got directly from T-Mobile, it still hasn't had the Feb update pushed.
While those of us wiih unlocked phones were more than a week behind everyone else getting out of beta on Android 10, we received the February patch before some locked phones. It would be unusual for Samsung to push anything out to the unlocks early but they did on the last patch.
Hey guys, hope everyone is well!
I've been doing alot of reading of various posts and sites and am getting myself quite confused! I was hoping some of you may be able to point me in the right direction!
I bought an unlocked new note 9 from ebay (I'm in the UK). I'm currently on three and dont think I ever really did a factory reset when I first got the phone.
The details are SM-N960U , Baseband N960USQS2CSGB , XAA/XAA/SPR
My three wifi calling is working which is good, however I am still stuck on August 2019 update. I thought I could perhaps flash this with a OXM firmware or even BTU to start getting updates again. It would be good to get security updates...!
Using Frija I can only seem to find USA firmwares though, and can't find any firmware online for UK sm-N960U (BTU/XEA/OXM). Just wanted advice on what you recommend? Should I just download the latest USA firmware from any of the carriers and flash that using ODIN? Frija doesnt seem to be able to even find any firmware with CSC XAA. I'm worried that if I install a new USA carrier firmware it'll lock the phone and I wouldnt want to lose the three voice calling either.
Any help/advice/pointers are much appreciated! Just couldn't find this particular situation on any of my searches!
The N960U is a North American only variant, with a Snapdragon SoC and non-unlockable bootloader, you won't be able to find any firmware for regions outside USA or Canada, neither will you be able to install custom ROMS.
I believe that the UK models are using the Samsung Exynos SoC.
But... You get the FM Radio on the chip, with the App NextRadio, and with a set of wired earbuds you can listen to OTA radio.
SPR was the carrier Sprint, now gobbled up by T-Mobile, (CSC; TMB)
My carrier Xfinity Mobile, CSC: CCT (Comcast) has WiFi Calling enabled, and has September update in Frija.
However, if you are getting WiFI calling on Three using the SPR firmware already on the phone, you might as well download the latest one, which is the Sept 20 update also.
FWIW, Flashing ROMS using Odin doesn't reset the SIM Lock.
I pre-ordered our phones (my wife received hers the day before the official launch, mine arrived the day after the closing date for claiming the pre-order bonus, luckily they honoured it due to overwhelming demand for the model that I ordered) and Xfinity unlocked them a month after we received mine.
I have flashed other official US ROMs before returning to the carrier's firmware and was still able to slip a Vodafone SIM in at Heathrow Airport and still enjoy glorious UK LTE during my vacation through England and Wales last April.
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering how often Galaxy S20 FE 5G owners here receive their security updates, because my own unit (an SM-G781U1 US unlocked model) hasn't seen one since August 2022, and searching for updates via Settings doesn't net me anything new.
Is there a cache that I should empty to make sure I get the security updates in a timely fashion, or is everybody else getting the same treatment here?
I must add that I live in France, I have a mobile contract with a French provider, and I bought this phone new from Rakuten three months ago.
According to DevCheck, the phone was manufactured on July 26, 2021. It came with Android 11 out of the box, and is now running Android 12 (One UI 4.1).
I don't expect a switch to Android 13 / One UI 5 until sometime next year, but I was under the impression that this model would get monthly security updates.
FWIW, my unit received the October Security Update today, so I suppose I should consider myself lucky. Apparently, Samsung is planning on upgrading us to One UI 5 (Android 13) sometime in December, according to GSM Arena.
Thanks for watching and take care!
As it were, the monthly update must have also brought some power management fixes, because it seems that battery life is improved on my unit. I keep the screen at 120 Hz and do a lot of Twittering and the like, and battery will get me through a solid day and a half now, instead of barely a day before the update.
I feel like its getting less often, I know eventually its supposed to go to quarterly, but that shouldnt have happened yet right?
I also didnt get september and went straight to october.
My guess is we'll maybe get one more before we get OneUI5 update which in my guess will be mid late january if last OS update is anything to go off of
This seemed to happened last year too where security updates slowed down when samsung was working on UI4
I've switched to a OnePlus 9 that's now running Android 13, but I wonder if regarding Samsung, their monthly update policy doesn't differ from one market to another.
My unit has a US (unlocked) ROM that precludes me from getting 5G connectivity, so maybe in the US the update schedule is different from, say, Europe for this model.
As for One UI 5, it should land on the S20 FE sometime in December.
