Hi,
When I activate Edge lighting and there is incoming message (Viber or SMS), edge screen is lighting and the notification message is displaying in a small rounded box on the top of screen.
But when I deactivate Edge lighting and there is incoming message, the notification message is displaying in a bigger rectangle box on the top of screen.
Honestly the lighting of edge screen is not useful too much and I don't need it.
But the problem is that when I deactivate Edge lighting, the notification message is displaying in a bigger rectangle box on the top of screen and it cover a big area of screen that interfere so much.
So the question is, how to deactivate Edge lighting while keeping the notification message in a small rounded box?
Thanks.
Open your edge lightning settings
Go to advanced lightning settings
Switch the upper width slider to the left to minimize and the lower transparency slider to the right to maximum.
You also can change the color to a custom color near to background colour

Don't think that's possible with simple settings. The smaller notification is edge lighting's notification taking over while the large box you get with edge lighting turned off is the messaging app's notification.
Or you can try changing the edge notification color to black. But you will still get a black screen instead of the popup on screen on whatever page/screen you are on.

Notification Pop Ups.. missing on Note 8 SM-N950U1 :crying:
For the life of me I can't figure out how to get Pop Up notifications to show up on screen. When a new item comes it , it just flashes a color but not PopUp I was used to on previous phones.
I tried everything, even booted in safe mode to make sure it wasn't an app causing it.
I use systemtuner ui, it gives you the possibility to manage how notifications are handled, search for it it in the "app themes and mods" subforum
Go to Settings->Display->Edge screen and then toggle "Edge lighting" off:

If you want every time you have a message notification your screen to turn on and see lockscreen with the notification details this isn't working in most of Samsung mobiles.... You have AOD instead....
But if you want this like me you have to use a free 3rd party app from playstore that works perfect with zero battery infect "glimpse notification"....
Just install give permission and ad to "white list" all the apps that you want to wake up your screen when a notification arrives... Don't forget to mark notifications led to work with the app (in app settings)
Default notification head-up doesn't work if you turned on Edge lighting. You can choose either one only.
Edge lighting off - default style notification head-up
Edge lighting on - a small samsung own overlay pop-up will displayed (not the default style) and edge will light up
i use Heads-up Notifications by Simen.codes from playstore

Hello All,
I have bought last days a galaxy note 8 snapdragon version, but i have seen a bug (maybe is not a bug) that when using AOD enabled with infinity effect enabled (blue theme) screen on aod stays blue with stars on top and after one minute it goes completely black and shows stars and clock only, that i love it... but when phone is charging and aod enabled, the infiniy effect on aod stays always blue on top of the screen and not black with stars only. Well im wondering if is there a possibility of screen burn from static blue color for all over the night if phone stays all night in charge?
Please Note 8 USERS check and reply if you have the same problem.
Dont ask me to turn off infinity wallpaper or aod bcs i like it and i want to use it, also i am all day out so i must charge the phone over night.
Pic attached.

If you do this regularly, yes it will burn the screen. Your top part the screen will be slightly greener (yellow-red) by burning the blue rapidly.
I do not think it will damage the screen, to the naked eye it looks static, but AOD does shift pixels, to avoid this
@xda_rosh is there any way to fix it?
@winol but why it is black in normal use and blue when charging?
Anyone with Note 8 if have the same problem?
Having the AOD numbers ON is not a problem as they move around a bit. But blue gradient definitely will ruin you display. I can guarantee that. My first Note 8 came one side little brighter (blue-white). I purposely made a blue gradient and left the screen on at high brightness a couple of night. It made the screen bit even by burning that side a bit.
The strange thing is that even the samsung agents that i spoke knew nothing about this.
Is very anoying that we cant use AOD because colored theme applied to AOD will burn the screen
Do you know that Mate 20 series has a variety of screen capture methods, in addition to screenshots through the phone keys, you can also take screenshots through the knuckles. let's learn together!
First, we have to turn on the smart screenshot switch.
Open Settings - Smart assistance - Motion control - Take screenshot - Smart screenshot, turn on the Smart screenshot switch.

1. Full screenshot:
Use a single-finger joint to double-tap the screen continuously and quickly to take a full screen shot.
2. Scrolling screenshot :
Tap the screen with a single-finger joint and then press and hold the letter S. The screen will automatically scroll down. Touch the screen with your finger to stop scrolling and complete the screenshot.
3. Partial screenshot:
Knock the screen firmly with your knuckle. Drag your knuckle around the area you want to capture, and then return to the starting point. Your selection is displayed on screen, the area inside the blue line will be captured. You can also select the screenshot box at the top of the screen for different screenshot shapes. Touch the icon save to save the screenshot.
The knuckles can be used not only for screen captures, but also for screen recording. Use the two-finger joints and quickly and continuously double-click the screen, then select to enable or disable the microphone recording environment sound, click [Start Recording] to start recording, click the [End] button in the upper left corner of the screen to end the recording.

Hi guys,
I have this phone from a couple of days.
I have a couple of questions: in the lock screen I see 2 clocks, one from my land (italy) and one from korea. How can I disable the second watch? is it possible?
And then, when I receive a call the flash light flashing like on the iphone. I found the menu and the voice is disabled. I tried some apps that can control the flash, but nothing happened.
Have someone the same problems? any solutions?
and finally there's no option to choose the network, but I think is a common problem.
Thank you very much
I think maybe what you're referring to is the AOD Always On Display not the Lock Screen. To change the dual clocks to a single you need to change your AOD settings. Go to Settings - Display tab - Wallpaper & Theme - AOD tab and touch the far left screen option with the Settings Icon. Select any option but Dual Clocks.

Lastly the flash use to only be controllable in the Accessibility menu. Settings - General - Accessibility - Hearing. But they have added an option for the flash when receiving a phone call under Settings - Sound tab - Flash Alert For Incoming Calls. Interestingly I use this setting but it shows it off under Accessibility settings and still flashes. So it sounds like you were maybe in the Accessibility menu where it shows it off. When you should be in the sound menu where it probably shows it on.

thanks for the answers...I solved for the flashing on incoming calls, but not for the lock screen. It's not the AOD options, but still the lock screen (when you use the double tap on the screen and the image appear, before unlocking the screen I Have two clocks)

Interesting. Assume you tried a different theme with the same result? My lock screen clock is set by the theme I chose it seems.

The theme has been copied from the previous phone (v30); I have an image on the background and an image on the lock screen. Inside the lock screen I have 2 clocks instead of one. I tried to change the theme but nothing happened
so no solutions??
Hi guys
Since I got this phone I have an issue with notifications on lock screen. Sometimes they appear, sometimes not (only lock screen lights up when notification comes...but its not visible). The only way to know which app sent the notification is to either see the icon on Always On Display or unlock the phone and check the app icon "badges" or expand the notification bar.
Any ideas? It happens randomly...sometimes notification from one app work, 30 min later they dont...
Moreover, it happend few times that there was a notification (missing on lock screen) and there was not even a sound - only vibration and lock screen lights up.
To be honest pretty annoying bug.....
I have the same issue - came here hoping for a resolution.

I think i found one....
So for example I have Line application which is similar to WhatsApp but mostly used in Asia.
Basically I noticed that sometimes notifications from Line are under Silent notifications group when you expand the notification bar. A bit of googling and this is Android 11 feature. The thing that helped was to switch ON option Show in conversation section. Android 11 have now 3 groups of notifications...Alerting, Silent and Conversations.

So with mine - i have copied all the settings from my previous phone OP9 pro - everything on that works but on the oppo it doesn't. shows on AOD screen but when you open the phone its only in the status bar. very frustrating but its not specific to WhatsApp but happens a lot on WhatsApp.
