how to remove N950N Camera shutter sound? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi everyone, I'm using a note 8 N950N here and the camera don't have the option to remove the shutter sound, with root i am able to remove the shutter sound by removing the shutter.ogg from system/media/ui/shutter.ogg but for camcorder start, stop and multiple shutter it is still having sound,
Here are few things that i had tried,
1) remove shutter_multiple.ogg, camcorder_start.ogg,camcorder_stop.ogg
2) add in <CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>true</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu> in csc but still dont have the option to disable it.
Is there anything I'm missing here? is it possible that the shutter sound location for N950N is different compare to other version, if yes what could be the correct path?
Thanks

Hi, I am aware of the thread but the solution inside can't help me, or can u enlight me is there any solution in there that was overlooked by me? I open a different thread because my device is rooted while that thread the op obviously doesn't have a rooted device thus I'm expecting some different answer compare to that.

If you are rooted you can either flash a different CSC, or just delete the sound file.

Hmm. That is strange. Mine has the option to turn off the shutter sound in the options menu through the camera app.

Before I had the toggle I removed the shutter ound file but I never throught to remove the sounds for video & bursts shots. On my F they are not named camcorder, they are cam_start & cam_stop. With the toggle, all the sounds are turned off.
Where & which xml file are you adding the csc feature line to?

Try this camera.apk!
I've removed the sound, but not tested yet.
Now it should be fully silenced.
Edit:
Tried it, got FC. I'll take a closer look later!
Edit 2:
If you also want to look for this, the audio files are in camera.apk/res/raw

Stop camera from starting on boot?

Anyone know if the Camera app can be prevented from starting on boot? (Perhaps a little contrary to the spirit of the camera, but I use it more for development than for taking pictures, and I don't like the lens motor wasting its time and wearing out its parts). Does it use the "normal" autostart mechanisms that might be disabled by something like Gemini App Manager, or is the camera start up built specially into the guts of the android version on this thing?
Don't know about the details, but enabling the screen lock (swipe to unlock) in settings stops the camera from starting when waking the device with the power button (doesn't stop the start after boot though).

Well, it stops the lens cranking out immediately on power up, but as soon as you do swipe the screen, you are in the camera app and the lens pops out. I'm looking to avoid the camera app completely. I guess if I get up the nerve to root this thing, I can try out an app manager and see if I can disable it on boot, but I'd hate to do unnatural things to the camera and then find out it didn't do any good .
If you are on the home screen when you switch off it will not open into the Camera app.

That depnds on how "off" is is. Once the suspend or hibernate or whatever it is expires and it goes "fully" off, it always starts in the camera.
Are you sure you really turned it off when it went to your homescreen without starting the camera app?
When starting from fast-startup or on a clean boot it will always start the camera app.
The only time it doesn't is if you had it in standby.
A work around is to use this app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.notificationToggle
Use it to set links to your favorite applications.
When you boot to the lock screen pull down the notification bar, select the app you want, then swipe to unlock and it will open in the app you selected.
Of course it would be much easier if Samsung had simply enabled lock screen shortcuts

It would be really nice to disable the camera on boot. It would also be nice to get rid of this stupid mesage:
"SD card inserted. Change storage location to SD card?"
I thought there was a thread for that, but can't find it now.

I only started to get this message since the new update, it appears as though the SD card doesn't get initiated before the camera app loads and in turn thinks you've inserted a new card, when it finally does get loaded. Either they need to put a delay in place or somehow not load the camera app until it's established whether there is a card installed or not.
Disable the BOOT_COMPLETE permission in the camera app but make sure something else has it or you boot to a blank screen.
how can we disable a permission ?
is there a simple app for that ?

The app that I should change permission is com.sec.android.app.camera , right ?

so ?
Get the latest files a quick Google search for Xposed Framework should get you to the right thread as I don't have it to hand and try it then. The settings asp changes from "Xposed Settings" to "Asp settings" in the latest version.

[Q] Sound when quick opening camera

Hey guys. stupid question.
If I start the camera by pressing its button or from the lockscreen i hear a stupid loud sound when its ready.
How can i get rid of that?
Greetz
It's a legality thing if I'm not remembering wrong. For the environment to have a chance to react to creeps taking photos when they shouldn't.
I remember it from a thread on SGS3 forum I think. The shutter sound was there even if phone was muted. Only way to stop it was removing the shutter sound file and for that root was needed, or a repackaged firmware.
I think it's a good thing even if it can be annoying for some.
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
But I don't get this Sound when I just open camera from homescreen and I can deactivate the shutter Sound
Just rename the corresponding wav file then.
Located in:
Code:
/system/media/audio/camera/sound1/
Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk
The sound file used in this case is located in the SemcCameraUI.all file, so you can't just delete it I guess. Plus it's odexed, if that makes any difference...

This is really annoying - I guess rooting is the only way to get rid of this sound?
Find that hard to believe, but if someone could confirm I'd be grateful.

How to turn off camera shutter sound on Note 8

Hello Everyone,
I live in Middle East but I bought My Note 8 SM-N950N from South Korea because 256GB is not available here.
Everything is fine till now except I noticed today that I cannot turn off the shutter sound even if the phone is silent.
There is not option in the camera setting to turn the shutter sound off, although my friends who bought their phone locally have it.
In the volume setting I mute all the volume bare (System, media, bixby ...) but still the shutter sound appear.
I asked Bixby to turn the camera shutter sound off, but no change.
My phone is not rooted and I will not root it soon, so I don't have access to system folder.
Any suggestion?
Delete this file
Wysłane z mojego SM-N950F przy użyciu Tapatalka
I just asked Bixpy to turn off shutter sound and she did it......not sure which setting she changed though as I can't find the setting anywhere. I am not a huge Bixpy fan, but I she does do a good job with settings
I heard that also & tried telling Bixby to turn off my shutter sound on my N950F, Bixby wouldn't do it. After root I simply renamed the shutter.ogg audio file to shutter.bak. No more shutter sound.
Later I flash the tmobile volte/wifi calling mod by Kalm_Traveler & that enabled tbe shutter sound toggle in the camera settings.
Renaming or deleting the shutter audio file is the easiest but you can try adding the following to get the toggle.
<CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>TRUE</CscFeature_Camera_ShutterSoundMenu>
I think in some countries, it is not allowed to silence that sound. So, the only way is to root and delete the system sound file.

Yup, that is true which is why I was not surprised when I found out my UK variant didn't have the toggle. I heard they tried to pass the same law in the US but I guess it never passed as all my US variant phones have the toggle.

I didn't see where the OP said he didn't want yo root. Normally you can't disable it without root. However I believe you can do it using Tasker. I've never tried it so I have no idea how to do it but if you search you'll find a number of threads.
There's also this, not sure if it'll work. Just a FYI, the post says Note 8 is compatible but I'm pretty sure that's the Note 8.0 tablet as the post hasn't been updated since 2013.

You might be able to add that CscFeature tag to your phone via ADB without rooting but I have no experience with that... my devices are rooted pretty much as soon as I get my grubby paws on them.
On my European SM-N950F Duos I used Tasker to set System volume to 0 when camera is open, then again set it to max when closing camera.
Try to put in a headphone plug (dont need the actual headphones) and attempt.

Ok, I get there could be privacy issues, but then how do you take pictures where sounds aren't allowed? For example in a library it is now becoming common practice to simply use Evernote to scan a page instead of going to the photocopier and making copies.
In quiet museum or at shows where photography is allowed all come to mind. If you can't shut off the shutter sound how are you supposed to take pictures at these locations?
Luckily in the U.S. it is a simple as asking Bixby to turn it off for you, but there are no settings to be found anywhere for it, so I wonder if she essentially does this work around.

Disable Shutter sound?

Hey,
I had to buy a new phone (P10 VTR-L29) in Japan and I have an japanese SIM card. Japanese phones and SIM cards always make the shutter sound. By rooting my phone and by flashing a magisk module, I could delete the shutter sound for whatsapp and other apps. But the stock camera still makes the sound. Is there a way to disable it? There is no option in the camera app to turn off the shutter sound.
Thanks!

Like I already said: "There is no option in the camera app to turn off the shutter sound."
There should be mute in the settings (drag from right in camera app).
I haven't yet rooted this phone so can't be sure but there should be somewhere in "system/media/audio/ui" to find the camera .ogg files and either rename so you can easily put them back or delete. I would just rename to play safe camera_click.ogg.backup or something (for all camera sounds).
Obviously remember to backup before fiddling in /system

In the attachments is a screenshot of my settings.
I also replaced the system/media/audio/ui files by flashing a magisk module. It worked to some extent. Snapchat, whatsapp and so on won't make a sound, but the stock camera app still makes a sound.
So I am guessing that Huawei hardcoded this setting into the stock camera app if you bought it in Japan.
Maybe someone can extract their stock camera app so I can install it on my phone?

I wouldn't imagine be hardcoded into apk. If you are rooted there is no reason I can see you not being able to turn it off. I would try changing all the sounds off manually rather than through module in case is slightly different names or something, only verified working for Lineage.
Also I think you can change the camera names in build.prop
As I say I haven't rooted this so can't be sure where it is, what it's called or indeed even if there is something there.
