I've been getting this more and more lately. The app I'm using will do a "minimize" animation to the top of the screen, then come back. Sometime it will be just once, other times it will happen several times in a row. This happens when in my hand or in my car holder, seemingly at any time.
Has anyone had this happen?

I posted a similar issue here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/moto-x-qa/unknown-app-flashing-toggling-wifi-t2672301
I believe it's related to wifi switching on and off, but have not found what app is causing the screen to flash.
I think it may be related to the OTA waiting to install, as it started happening around that time, but I'm not sure.
Yes! I had the minimizing problem also--it went away as soon as I disabled/froze the OTA app. It was horribly annoying! So glad that fixed it!

What was the name of the app which needed to be frozen? I have tried freezing all "updater" apps and it is still happening.

The "friendly" name is MotoOTA, not sure of the full name.
Yeah I have been delaying the updating app. That must be it. I'm waiting for my unlock code, should I just update to 4.2.2, or wait for unlock.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I can't say for sure that being on 4.4.2 fixed it, but I am on 4.4.2 now and it is not happening anymore.
I unlocked my bootloader and did the 4.4.2 SBF, unlocked and rooted. I installed probably 99% of the same apps (only ditched 1-2 that I never used anymore) and I am not having the flashing issue anymore.
Hard to tell for certain if the pending OTA was the cause, but it may have been.
Does anyone know how to fix an issue where the screen never locks? It just shows the last app when the phone wakes up about half the time.
I have a Galaxy S5 unrooted and stock.
Haven't run into that but I'm having issues with random sleep of death and random reboots. Stock unrooted here as well. I've already done a cache clear and that seemed to work for about 24 hours but I just had another SOD.

That doesn't fix the problem. I adjusted that setting as soon as I did the upgrade. It's a lollipop issue.

Was this listed under 'Lock screen'? I checked where the amazingasian stated, and couldn't find the option. That being said, it doesn't seem to be consistent enough to be a setting.

Yes it's under lockscreen. To be able to see the setting, 1st u must select a lock screen type, not the regular swype screen. Then go back to the lock screen setting and the option will be available. But lime I said, doing that doesn't fix this issue. Yesterday I turned my screen on and off 3 times just to get it to lock.

Have you tried a lock screen from Play Store? That might solve the problem. I'm using Hi Locker currently, with no problems at all.

I haven't tried it, mostly because I actually like the look of the lock screen and its integration with the rest of the OS. I think it is more of a problem with the OS not recognizing that the screen has been turned off. Therefore, I think it is a problem that would affect all lock screens.
Could it be an issue with Smart Lock? I do have a smart device set up (the Sync system in my car), but the locking isn't being consistent in my car.
I am having an issue where the Samsung Keyboard crashes when used with some apps. Notably Facebook messenger. Anyone else notice this? Also, on occasion when opening the stock SMS app after unlocking the device, it automatically opens the bottom most conversation. I've cleared both data and caches for the apps. I am fresh install rooted lollipop the day it came out.

Will do, I have been so busy lately, I did not even notice. Thank you.
my lollipop problems
Stock s5 with lollipop AT&T. Since update and even after cache clearing, I am suffering from extremely slow charging, too fast battery drain. Occasional sluggishness, and occasionally notifications don't work until phone unlocked.
I used muniz_ri's flash fire method keeping root which installs fresh and lollipop works flawlessly with no bugs, nothing broken. After install, google reinstalls your apps which many rediscover their stored settings on the internal sd. Most lollipop issues seem to be related to the stock update method or manual tibu restore... muniz fresh install lollipop is solid.

This makes me wonder then, because I was a fresh install with the original method Muniz had up. I only TiBu restored a few apps (none affected by my keyboard issue) and let everything else stay fresh. I am going to try the new method for the reasons Muniz pointed out to my prior post that listed the issues I had.

Last night and today it completely froze had to press power and volume down to reboot removing swiftkey just to see if that is the cause anyone else with freezing issues.
No freezing issues here at all. Been using it for two days now. Maybe a restore will help?

Had mine since the 19th of September with no freezes or reboots. You can boot into safe mode and if it doesn't freeze it's definitely something you've installed. If it freezes in safe mode I'd see about getting it replaced.

Maybe the fact that there are 2 Swiftkey apps that can cause the issue of freezing

Yes--Secure Folder has been freezing frequently on me. I am wondering if it is related to my Xfinity wifi or my NordVPN or strongSwan VPN. It seems to freeze less when I use 4G. Do you use those VPNs or wifi? Reply to [email protected]. Thank you
.... All I was doing was watching a YouTube video and the phone completely froze. Only way out of it was to press and hold the power button to force it to restart.
Even though your scenario is unfortunate I’m actually quite happy to hear that I’m not the only one who is experiencing crashing with this phone that tells me that it’s a manufacturer problem and hopefully more users will report on it thank you so much for reporting your issue with this phone.
Was this your first crash?
If so, I unfortunately believe that you have many more to come. The only good thing is when it crashes it doesn’t happen that often but for a brand-new phone it should be happening at all
Yes it was my first crash. I am just hoping firmwares will get better and better over time. I am Huawei fan. Had Mate 8, 9 and now 10.
Was just thinking, I was using a modded YouTube app. Surely if that would crash it would not bring the entire phone to a standstill?

I am using a modded You Tube app as well. BUT, my latest crash happened when I tried to unlock my phone.
Phone was frozen, and then was greeted by the Huawei boot screen.
this phone facing few hiccups every now and then,
oftenly happen when i lock the screen with games still running,
when i try to unlock it later, it freeze for seconds, but managed to open after
sometimes games got killed and i need to force close it,
i think this is due to Oreo implementation as well,
huawei might still learn to take a grasp on EMUI 8,
hopefully it will get better
the same problem i have , non pro , non chinies rom and phone
I've had one crash. Was just trying to go to recents....
I've had no crashes whatsoever. I am running the Asian firmware.
I have Asians firmware too. Rather disturbing cause it is not my dd yet. That is, I'm not using much...

Same here. Phone dies secretly. Only holding the power button puts it on, and you're greeted by huawei boot screen. I could lock phone, go to unlock 3 seconds later and its dead. Huawei boot screen greets me. Very random. 115 software on the pro version only. The non pro never did this
Anyone updated? Any more crashing? What firmware did you experience the crash? At xT29c, no more crashes for you since 118 update? Saw your thread

I have the non pro version. Since the update, I have not had the random crashing happen. But hard to say if its been fixed since the issue was sporadic to begin with. If it happens, I will report it. So far so good.

Good. Thanks for the update
If you are watching you tube and it crashes it may be because you have had a message on FB messenger. This has been causing occasional crashes. Turn of your chat heads in FB messenger. Problem solved!!!
There seem to be a lot of bugs on BLA-L29 Build 127 causing crashes. So if anyone is running that, might be best to downgrade to 126 or wait for a new version.

i'm on 115 (c782)
Dec. 11th 2017 update.
Got another crash. First one since updated to FW Chinese 8.0.0.120 (SP2C00).
The crash happened after I tried playing a .RM video file in VLC media player. Admittedly, .RM files are absolute garbage file type. So, I credit that to the crash. But will report on anymore that may happen.
im on mate 10 lite and everything was smooth on emui 5.1 but when I updated it to 8.0 same thing happened it hangs and restarts countless times
Running latest stock firmware and at least once a day my phone reboots automatically. Auto restart is turned off. I have it on the table and next thing it just reboots. One time this week it turned off completely. Has anyone else experienced this and or know of a solution? Thanks
I cannot confirm anything you describe. It's either caused by a bad or disabled application or possibly faulty hardware. Test your phone at Safe Mode to see if the restarts stop. If so, you need to find out which app is causing it.

Can confirm. It happens to me as well. Not everyday. It is completely random. Happened twice today. After I charged it. Don't know if charging it is connected somehow to the issue. Every android phone I buy just has some odd quirks. No more. After this one I'm done. You barely see any problems like this with an iPhone.

You using a SD card? If so try pulling it.
If you did any firmware update flashes since getting it, factory reset.
At least clear the system cache...
A hard reset may also get it.

Yeah leave that junk turned off... power management is known to cause erratic behavior as well.
How it's going with the random reboots? Do you still have a problem or turning off "auto optimise daily" fixed it?

This is not normal behavior.
If it's under warranty now might be the time... at least get the documentation started.
Have you cleared the system cache?
Try in Safe Mode as pointed it maybe a 3rd party apk; power management apps and 3rd party launchers are prime candidates. Anything that runs in the background when the screen is off.
Factory reset time...
If that doesn't get try replacing the sim card and removing the SD card if any.
If you still can't find it try reflashing the firmware.
It maybe a hardware failure... and intermittent ones can be the hardest to track down.

Nova launcher premium or free and what version?
I'm using Nova Prime, I haven't noticed any reboots but there has been occasions where the fingerprint scanner was switched back to code unlock like it had just booted up. I'll check up time if it happens again.
Latest free from Play store. 6.2.18.
I might try amd reinstall it later to see if the issue reoccurs, but there has been no reboots since i uninstalled it thankfully.

Might want to quit while you're ahead. A buggy 3rd party launcher is a sure fire way to crash and burn a Android OS. Boot looped twice by one on my stock Note 10+.
Take any noticable instability seriously...

No doubt you're absolutely right about that, but on the other hand, with the Nova launcher, it's not normal behavior. Nova is rock solid, I've used it for years on various devices, and there's never been a problem.

While I found that it's not better than the native One UI launcher, Nova Launcher didn't boot loop my 10+ into oblivion... lol, a definite plus.
What I found was it was slower and that I lost some features I liked with One UI. It used a lot more battery but some of that was due to tweaking it, but even when I wasn't adjusting it's settings it's battery usage was high. One UI unlike some of Sammy's past launchers is a fast and very stable launcher... hard to beat.
Samsung's are very customizable in their stock configuration, other makes not near as much so.
So yeah I get why you might want use a 3rd party launcher and Nova is at the top of the candidates. Not being at the mercy of every new flavor of OS and native launcher is also more harmonious and productive... so yeah, I get it.
I don't use Nova launcher and I have random reboots. What I' ve noticed is that the reboots were happening when I wasn't using the phone for a while. Also when the phone turned back on an application was active in notification curtain. In the beginning it was TuneIn although I had it force stopped from settings everytime I was using it. After I uninstalled it I didn't had any incident for quite a while. Two days ago I had a lot of reboots in a day. The app working after the reboots was always Samsung Accessory Service, I have Galaxy Watch 3 also. My guess is that the UI is trying to kill an app and it crashes. When I find some time I 'll try a factory reset with fresh install cause my current set up is based on settings from my previous phone (LH V30).
