Is it possible to hide videos in the gallery app from SD card?
I made a folder on my SD card with videos. But it also keeps showing up in the gallery.

Rename the folder with a . as first character. Like ".videos". This hides it from the gallery app.
You can also use apps like Vaulty which providing pass code security.

I can browse sd card using explorer apps no problem. Shoes in system settings too. But won't show music or pictures when I go to those apps, music and gallery. Ideas?

Go to settings, apps, music, clear data. Same thing for gallery. If that doesn't work you might just have a bad flash going. Reflash the ROM and go from there.

Also...make sure there ate no ".nomedia" files, if you see this file it will cancel media scanner for the folder its located in as well as its sub-derectories...spook...if its in root, you will never see anything.
Do you or did you have Rom manager installed? There was a version of Rom manager released a few days ago that created a .nomedia in the root of the phone...
To see the .nomedia file you may have to enable the "view hidden files" under settings...

Hi, Just wondering how do I exclude particular folder like cache folder or whatsapp picture folder from showing up in defaulted album? Before ice cream sandwich I can just put a .nomedia file to the folder that I don't want to show up but this doesn't seem working on ice cream sandwich. Please help. Thanks.
Download nomedia app from the market. Then you put a .nomedia file in each folder you do not want the media scanner to scan

Or skip the nomedia app and just create a file with the filename .nomedia (with the preceding full stop) in whichever folders you want to skip indexing.
You might need to reboot your phone or reset and re-index the media database by going to Settings, Apps (All), Media Storage and clearing the existing data. (The phone will need to be rebooted after clearing the database.)

Are there any apps available to run the media storage clearing and rescan? At the moment I am regularly clearing this data and using the rescan root app from market but would like this all in one process without the need to hunt through the settings. It's annoying that as new files are added to these folders with .nomedia the still appear in album unless I clear the data and rescan media.

Not that I know of. There are media rescan apps but they are largely hit and miss in my experience.
As I said above, you can do it by wiping your existing media database and then rebooting your phone. Not ideal but gets the job done.
How about this app...

Good for hiding p0rn from your girlfriend, not any good for getting your phone to rescan your media.

Oh, and that's not an endorsement by the way - just based on reading the app description.
I haven't used the app so couldn't comment!
Tried it..lol

".nomedia" also prevents audio files from being scanned... any solution to prevent only images from certain locations to be shown? I have a lot of album artwork stored with in my music collection and it keeps showing up in the gallery...
thank you in advance for any suggestion

Yep... right... I already have embedded album art in mp3 files... but at the same time I have same files (and some extra ones) in the folder... sometimes it's more convenient to have them handy...
I think I will delete all graphics files from my music folder after copying the music to my phone... that's probably easiest solution...
Thank you anyway...

Your main folder with its sub folder for pictures is not allowed to be named DCIM. Give it another name and the album app will show you folders

Thanks for the tip - helped me a lot! My pictures were all over the place! Wish I could get rid of the facebook, maps & globe folders too!
I worried about the same issue until I had the idea to rename the folder on my external sd, where are my archived pictures were stored

I'll try that again. I wasn't getting that in the sony one, and I'm sure I had everything in folders (folder per year, subfolder per day), and I was just seeing a inaccessible unarranged lump of pictures

so should i rename the PICTURES folder or the DCIM folder?
I had my picture folders in a second DCIM folder on the external sd. This DCIM folder is the one to rename.
If you have your picture folders in the DCIM folder where the camera stores its pictures, you need to put them in another folder.

ok so my DCIM folder only contains the camera pictures. My all other pictures are in another separate folder named Pictures on ext. sd. But still all these pictures and the ones in DCIM show as one lump of pictures...
You need to go to the second tab and choose "my sd card"

The Album - Pictures sort by Date do kind of dumb, I dislike it also. For view by folder, the only way is go to 2nd tab - My albums.
The BE2 for picture only work under Album, but it work in any apps for video. At least I try out MX Player Pro and it work with BE2 engine.
I was hoping got options set BE2 always on everywhere. Sony did BE2 for certain apps only is dumb also.
Hope that sony updates some feautures like be2 everywere all the time, album app to show only maps no big f#cking list of all the pics thqt is soooo annoying hahaha,
,camera compression and lag ect.ect.

Try hide it pro from the market
try create a folder starting with a dot, like: .photos.
and put the pictures there...
In the folder where you want to store and hide photos create a file called .nomedia then move the photos into the folder.
If you add the .nomedia file to an existing folder you may need to wipe Gallery data before it takes effect. Works on Sammy and HTC, haven't tried it myself on Sony.
OR, if rooted, get LUKS Manager from the market. Works like Windows Truecrypt.

Or you can download quickpic app to hid the folders for you..
it actually only create .nomedia file for you..
Install 'hide it pro' app downloading via Google play store, its free and after installation it will be renamed as audio manager, and tapping at 'audio manger' you will be able to install your password and you can view your hidden photos, videos. You can encrypt your data also.
And if you have root acess, you can hide your app downloading its plugin, located at advanced settings. Then you can launch your app calling @ ##yourpassword .

I tried Hide It Pro but prefer LUKS. Hide It just seems to change the name of your file and copy it to an obscure location, but you can still find it with a file explorer. I didn't try the encryption but it looked to me like it would only encrypt individual file(s)?
With LUKS, you create a password-protected encrypted volume (can take a while) and then you mount it. Once the volume is mounted it looks like a regular folder. You can create whatever folders you want and just cut/paste any filetype into it. Encryption is on the fly so you don't need to encrypt/decrypt files. In any file explorer, browse to a file in the volume, double-click and the file opens....pictures, music, videos, spreadsheets, text files etc, all open transparently out of the mounted volume. When you dismount the volume you cannot see inside it.
Tried changing a name of an existing folder to .saved and the folder disappear completely ?? any reason why this happened?
And tried creating a new one with .pvt ,sadly this not work, ast the folder created cant be seen?anyone experienced this problem before?
Just to clear the matter, lady friend sent me a bikini photo, not porn or any sort but since the album shows all on the Z, had a lot people want to check my phone out scanning through my photos etc which made me wonder if there is an app to ensure privacy.
Hide It Pro works well Thanks guys!! :good:
I successfully transferred the original SD card's content into my 64Gb Sandisk FAT32 using the instructions on https://support.oculus.com/hc/en-us/articles/204363723-Using-Your-Own-microSD-with-the-Samsung-Gear-VR-Innovator-Edition but now all of the video footages that's found within the Oculus folder shows up on my Gallery.
Is there a way to prevent the videos from showing up in my Gallery without interfering with the Gear VR from accessing those files? It's not a big deal but there's 7 folders clustering my Gallery which gets in the way of utilizing my other folders.
Thanks in advance :good:

Try add a .nomedia txt file to the folders
I tried adding it to the Oculus folder and restarted but my gallery still showed the files :\
It needs to be on each folder separate and check if oculus software will still see those folders.
