usb tether download speed - Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact Questions & Answers

Is anyone else experiencing USB Tethering download speed issues?
My setup:
XZ1 Compact, European, 47.1.A.5.51
Debian Linux 9
Unlimited 4g data plan
speedtest on phone shows ~50Mbps down, ~50Mbps up
speedtest on PC while USB-Tehering: 1Mbps down, ~50Mbps up
speedtest on PC while WiFi-Tethering: ~50Mbps down, ~50Mbps up
using the same SIM card in my old phone, an HTC 10, I never had any issues. Before I ask my provider, can anyone else confirm if they're able to get full speed download while USB Tethered?
thanks!

How close do you have to be to Wifi t mobile Hotspot to use wifi?

How close do you have to be to a wifi spot to get speeds quicker than normal web and walk on T Mobile UK?
Also, is there a difference in speeds for customers who have web and walk and web and walk plus? Whats the difference in speeds if you connect your laptop to the internet with the two of these via internet sharing?

Wifi speed slow

Hey all,
I don't know if I'm alone in this, but I've never been able to get more than about 700-800k speed when connected to Wifi. This is either while tethering over bluetooth/USB, or on the phone's browser itself.
Specifically, I'm tethering Wifi to BT and Wifi to USB, while connecting to Wifi hotspots that T-Mo's G1 data plan allows. But I've also run many tests at home, where my cable speed is 14M down/900k up, and cannot exceed 700-800k down.
Understandably tethering 3G to Wifi/BT/USB is limited by the 3G speed, but what is limiting my Wifi to BT/USB speed? And what is limiting my on-phone Wifi speed? Is this simply a matter of the G1 not having the horsepower to process data fast enough? Which would moot the point of having a HSDPA tethering when it rolls out.
Thanks.

Using Computer's wifi for captivate?

I'm trying to use the computer's wifi connection to send TO the Captivate; the phone is having those wifi issues with the school's internet and until I get that fixed I can't really use that much data.
I was wondering if there was a way to use the computer's wifi through usb or it's own wifi connection? Thanks in advance.
Oh and I'm using a custom 2.2.1 rom
Like ftp? If so, try On Air from the market.
What OS are you using on your computer. If you are using a Windows machine and are have it plugged into the LAN you can set up an AD/HOC network. Google the process as the process varies per XP Vista and Win 7. However if you are using your computers wifi to connect to the schools wireless then I am not sure on what you can do.
Thanks for the input guys; and yea charlier, I thought about making an ad hoc network but sadly I'm using my computer's wifi to connect to the internet so that won't work.
Yesterday I bit the bullet and upgraded to the 2gb data plan and I'm loving it; with the ROM I'm getting better battery life, OC/UV benefits, the ability to side load, and ATT's network speed is amazing here (H+).

[Q] Slow WiFi HotSpot speeds with Win7x64 vs Win XP

I've been using the WiFi HotSpot (The Verizon app, because I am paying the monthly service fee for it) and I have noticed that the WiFi connection on My Win7 x64 notebook is MUCH SLOWER than the connection speed that I get compared to my WinXP notebook. Connection speeds are equivalent for the two PCs if I use a USB cable to connect instead - so it seems WiFi is the issue. I have also tried changing settings in the HotSpot app, like setting it to G only or changing WPA settings, but these don't seem to change anything. Also ran registry cleaner on Win7 PC but no improvements. Anyone else experience this?
Here is a bit more information about my setup:
In Phoenix, AZ on 4G
Currently running Revolt 1.2 ROM - but have experienced same issue across Stock LG ROM, Decrapped 1.1 ROM, etc.
Using stock 4G HotSpot app
WinXP SP3 - average speeds 15Mbps dn/5 up
Win7 x64 - average speeds 2Mbps dn/2 up
Using Google Chrome browser - but have experienced same issue with FireFox, Safari and IE9
Thanks,
Josh
With tethering (whether 4g HotSpot or Root Tether), I had lots of issues. Overall the speed was great, but the response times were poor and some pages would never load.
My Fix: (Thanks to Linux making adjustments easy), was changing the MTU setting on the computer to MTU=1300. This improved things so much that i never usually wait more than a second for any page to respond and usually instantaneous overall.
For Linux, just go to the network settings and change MTU (GUI, Ubuntu at least)
For Windows, they don't make it easy, but this link does:

Hope this helps your problems out. If not, I would try booting into Ubuntu Live CD and see if you can't get better speeds. (remembering to try changing the MTU.) Using a Linux LiveCD to determine a Windows problem or if a hardware problem is one of the easiest methods I have found to start out with.
I pay for the HotSpot Service and overall, I find using the root tether (Garden Tether) to be much snappier and less battery drain. So, if you happen to have your phone rooted, then I would try the Tether App found on the market. Since your paying for the 4g HotSpot, it won't matter which program you are using as the data is calculated the same (IE:the 4g HotSpot data usage tallies on the phone as if it were phone data. You might notice that one the verizonwireless website that the hotspot tab doesn't who any usage because of that.

PC Wifi Connection - Help

Hi
I have an Acer Aspire Revo R3700 PC and it is about 14 months old.
The wifi connection seems intermittent and the speed is fluctuates a lot sometimes going to 1mbps.
I have two laptops in the house that can pick up 37mbps anywhere in the house (including at the side of the PC) but the PC can't seem to get to these speeds.
Due to the connection problems and now the speed, is it possible my wifi card is faulty?
If I got an N wifi adapter for the PC and somehow disabled the wifi card, could that solve my problems?
I have researched this problem on the internet and one of the older models of my PC has had faulty wifi cards.
Any help appreciated.
