HTC One M7 not booting. Boots Recovery mode but is stuck there - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. Today I received a bricked HTC One (M7) to see if I could recover it. I don't know about his past (only that it has a broken glass).
I try to press Power for a long time, it boots the HTC White screen that says HTC and Powered by Android but after that, it shutdown. I can boot "recovery" mode and navigate through the menu. However, as soon as I press power to select an option, it gets stuck there, and all keys stop working and I need to press for a long time the power button. If I put it charging, sometimes, it shows the battery symbol and the red led turns on.
The Recovery Menu says:
****LOCKED****

I tried this on the latest Ubuntu version, but it did't worked. Anyone has any solution/is it hard bricked?

I'm sorry, there is no thread named "ReadMe".
Few instructions:
First you need the htc_fastboot.exe instead of normal fastboot.exe
Enter RUU mode: "htc_fastboot oem rebootRUU"
And flash the ruu: "htc_fastboot flash zip PATH_TO_RUU.zip" - replace the PATH_TO_RUU.zip with your location to ruu, then do the command again when requested.
Wait to finish, then do "htc_fastboot reboot"

Well, the zip file is corrupted

The zip it's not corrupted, it's just encrypted...

I see. How can I desencrypt it? Or I should just use that Zip as it is?

You don't need to decrypt it, just follow my instructions.

Ok, Thank You. I will do it tomorrow

Hi again. I tried this again, however, I can't access the fastboot mode. On That menu described above, when I press Power to select fastboot, it gets stuck there and the only thing I can do is to press Power button again for some seconds to force shutdown.

You absolutely need to get in the fastboot menu and it must show "FASTBOOT USB" in red once there for your phone to communicate with the computer. If your phone freeze in bootloader, there is not much you can do, either a corrupted bootloader or hardware damage.

Ok, thanks. So, I can't get it to work, right?

Hi,
Sorry to interrupt this thread, I also have an HTC One, M7 unlocked. I tried to root the phone and ended up with the phone stuck at boot screen. Trying to follow the instruction to use htc_fastboot and the image you shared to flash my phone
Is that image locks to Vodafone UK as the image name has this ?

Thanks heaps !
Managed to flash it using the RUU. Now my phone boots OK. However seems the phone cannot read the SIM. I did have this issue before but now it looks more like a SIM tray/reader HW issue

Your baseband is detected correctly? If so, it's probably a hw issue.

Yes, I can view my SW version via going to settings - about once the phone boots up

[Q] Bootloader is all I have

Hi guys, Noob-alert! Please let me know if I'm in the wrong place here.. I don't want to annoy you guys.
I got a HTC One from a friend that he bricked, at least that's what he thinks. I said I might be able to find out more and I got the phone into the bootloader with the bright light and all that.
Since I have no idea where to start and what kind of ROM's and other stuff the guy has used, I'd like some proper guidance into getting this phone into original condition, if that's still possible. He used this phone with a Canadian Rogers plan.
Oh yeah, Recovery doesn't work. It reboots and gives me the phone icon with the red "!" triangle.
Is factory reset a good start?

I'm not 100% sure but when entering recovery you select recovery then have to press and hold power and volume up and you should then get yellow text at the bottom of screen about sd card or something similar then it'll open recovery
sorry cant be more help

Thanks, but unfortunately I can't select anything. It goes to a black screen right away and then I get the phone icon with red triangle.

Recovery does work, that's just stock recovery you have on the phone. Once in the red triangle screen press volume + up and or down to enter recovery. You might have to try this a few times..
Your phone is also re locked so you need to unlock it from htcdev. Just follow the instructions. . Can you post a fastboot getvar all please.

Your friend seems to have installed the US Google edition rom on the phone..
To get back to stock rogers use this RUU
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_..._10-38r-1157-04l_release_351317_signed_2-exe/
If you prefer another rom. Go to htcdev and get an unlock code and follow the instructions. Once unlock you can fastboot a recovery for your phone. I recommend TWRP 2.6.3.3.. but one step at a time.. What would you like to do

You sir, are my HERO! Thank you so much, it's back to stock now and works great.
A new question: It's asking for a SIM network unlock PIN which probably means that i''s SIMlocked. I don't have a Rogers SIM so I need to get that unlocked.
The actual question; how can I get rid of the lock without having to pay for it? (I found some websites that can provide you a code and stuff like that.)
I'm willing to root/flash and stuff like that.. but I need a clear guide so I don't screw up.

I haven't tried this yet since I first wanted it back to the original state.
So I found out that my question was pretty dumb. Apparently I can only get it unlocked with a code. Which created a new question:
Will my phone get any regular HTC One future updates when it's unlocked? Maybe another dumb question, but well..
What sim carrier are you with. Your Rogers phone will still get the updates providing you have not modified it, ie installed custom recovery or custom Rom.
It will still receive updates and even download them with just a custom recovery installed, it just won't apply them.

@Maurix-NL Edit 2: Everything is fine now, you can proceed with these files and instructions.
Edit: Wait a minute, I,ve linked the wrong firmware file. I'll get back to you in a few minutes...
Download this file, this file and this one save them in the same folder where you already have adb and fastboot on your computer.
First, you'll have to update your firmware so your phone can accept the latest Rogers RUU:
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip Firmware_7.17.631.52.zip
fastboot flash zip Firmware_7.17.631.52.zip

and finally flash the Rogers RUU:

htc_fastboot.exe (that particular version) is needed at least to flash the RUU. Its a modded version of Google's fastboot.exe made by HTC because Google's fastboot can't handle files as large as this RUU (Lollipop RUU are larger than the previous versions and must now be flashed with htc_fastboot.exe).

So I move the 3 files in the fastboot folder I currently have, right? When do I use the HTC exe? Or will that automatically be used when I run those commands?
Sorry about all the questions. I don't want to mess things up.

When I ask what version, it is NOT CURRENT, it should be 2.6.x.x.. etc
You can hold the power button to force reboot it. Also hold the volume down button to boot into bootloader mode,.

I worked with twrp 2.7.0.0 and cwm 6.0.4.8. Power and volume does not work, just the button lights are going on and off, but it does not go into bootloader
Download this: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ota_m7_...-6_release_315479_signedw7j9zkknughsv3z9-zip/
Extract firmware.zip from it then do the following:
Lock bootloader

fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot
how does it go?
Well, did that! doesn´t boot! when i try to do that again cmd says "waiting for device"
Managed to get into bootloader, and locked it again but "tampered" is not gone
cmd says fastboot flash succesfull but the mirror with green loading bar (above the htc logo) gets stuck!!!
I downloaded the RUU from your link, typed in cmd
fastboot oem lock
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
response: 12 signature verify fail

your s-on so flashing the RUU would require locking the bootloader, But you also can't flash a RUU older than your current software without s-off
edit your post above and remove the imei and serial
to enter stock recovery from the bootloader screen
just select recovery then on the black screen with the triangle hold volume up and tap power
now you should see the stock recovery menu ... try clear cache first as it's less destructive
if it doesn't help go back and do the factory reset (this will wipe all your data on the phone)

No .. if you have TWRP just push a rom to the phone with adb
adb push rom.zip /sdcard/
just make sure the rom is in the same folder as adb
I would use ARHD >> http://www.androidrevolution.org/downloader/download.php?file=Android_Revolution_HD-One_83.1.zip
Also you need to be on TWRP 2.6.3.3 for the rom to flash without error
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/m7
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.3-m7.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
not sure what i did, but i cant connect "adb devices"
so "adb push Android_Revolution_HD-One_83.1.zip /sdcard/" is giving me device not found error
also i read something about using an OTG cable and i seen one when i was out xmas shopping and bought it, it wont mount
im on twrp 2.6.3.3 too

Permanently Bricked HTC One M7 (Been trying for 7 hours)

Hi,
I am pretty sure I have permanently bricked my phone, my PC no longer detects it (it used to, and I have tried reinstalling drivers several times)
When I turn on my phone, I see the HTC Logo, then it goes to a black screen, the only way for me to leave this black screen is hold power button and wait for capacitive keys to flash 115 times before it shuts off completely...I have access to Recovery Mode and am not rooted.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I've been trying to fix this for almost 8 hours now
(I have a HTC One M7 running OS~7.19.771.21)

EDIT: Relocked device because I am an idiot and now can't unlock...can get into recovery only once (when submitting unlock token, after restart I become RELOCKED again)...also I launch into Clockwork for recovery instead of TWRP for some reason, I think I occidentally flashed it at some point, every time I restart I get warned that I don't have an OS and asked if I would like to root (Y/N - doesn't change anything, still no boot)

The "Mount SDCARD failed" errors are normal, there is no sd card on that phone. These error will always shows when booting in recovery mode. The problem was most likely caused by rebooting the phone before the update was finished, hence why its now only booting in recovery mode. You'll need to post the output of "fastboot getvar all" (hide your imei and serialno) before I, or someone else, can help you further.

Hi Alray,
I am having the same issue with my htc 610 and I am glad that i was able to see this thread by google. I am wondering if you could give me some advises here. Regarding RUU, which one should I download from htc? Because there are three RUUs for htc 610 on htc website, pre-paid, post-paid and unlock. I got the phone from walmart that was labeled as "unlock". Should I use the one under "unlocked"?
And when it comes to following instructions posted in the collection thread, should I go by HTC Desire 601 RUU Collection thread? Thanks a bunch!

your version-main is 1.54.502.16 so it's the pre-parid verison.
download from here: http://dl3.htc.com.s3.amazonaws.com...1.1248827416.1501377631-1468744157.1486469825
It's a .exe ruu, so connect your phone to your pc with the usb cable (make sure it's correctly detected) then launch the ruu program and follow instructions. I don't know anything about the Desire 610 but afaik, all htc phones, when S-ON, must have a locked or re-locked bootloader to flash a ruu. So if it's unlocked, re-lock it using "fastboot oem lock" before using the ruu.
