Any Kernels That Supprt Drivedroid? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hi Guys
The thing i miss most from upgrading my Note 3 to the Note 8 is the ability to use Drivedroid.
Is there any kernels out there that supports the USB Mass Storage (UMS) feature??
I am using the ironman kernel (with the ironman rom) but this doesn't have this feature.
If there is no kernels out there, please please Devs can you add this??
Drivedroid page:

Thank You

Google around for Linux on galaxy. I'm stuck on Drivedroid to. Hopeful not to wait as long as other updates from Samsung.
Rumours that Samsung is rolling out a update with a great mayor future to all dex supported devices soon. Some websites say that the availability to run any Linux distribution direct from your smartphone is coming. Drivedroid may no longer needed to bootup distro's. Even root permissions should no longer asked for.
Within the next link you can subscribe to the 'linux on galaxy' project at Samsung's website to be the first to tryout.

Thanks for the link @toineh.
This is a really interesting development.
Will keep an eager eye on this project

Jailbreak ps3 with Android phones Coming soon??

Since the release of the PSGroove open-source PS JailBreak PS3 exploit there have been numerous clones and ports in the works to other devices, which now includes the JailBreak Tiny (dubbed PSGroove Buddy) and a WIP Android port.
xiaNaix of PSX-Scene.com (linked above) reports via TiaoWiki.com that the JailBreak Tiny is under development by the TIAO community, who state the following about the project, to quote:
"We are working hard on the Jailbreak Tiny (a.k.a PSGroove Buddy) for your PS3. You can install open-source firmware (PSGroove etc.) to this USB dongle, which will enable you to run homebrews on your PS3!
We haven't decided on the price, but as usual, it won't be expensive and our price is always SHIPPED price! It will have diygadget/TIAO logo."
An Android PSGroove port is also in the works by Netzke on his Blog and qberty1337.
To quote on their progress thus far: "I'm currently working on a android port of PSj. You can follow my progress on. Look me up on twitter and blogspot. Currently the only real requirement is that your phone be rooted and running an android OS.
Also this is not limited to just phones. You can also use an android tablet. Or any other device you have that runs Android os. It appears to work on my netbook as well. I'm very close to producing a fully working bug free app for this."
"Lol I just got my Android to mimic the 6 port hub. Stage 1 Complete. Stage 2 done. Thinking If I should use PSGroove or OpenPSJailbreak as a base. for stage 3."
Also, spunks310 let us know HERE that another N900 Port is in development as well.
Finally, ps2chiper and atommann from the Shenzhen Linux user group announced they are working on a low-cost and open-source PS JailBreak hardware design, as follows:
"We saw the news for PSGroove and I convinced atommann to use his avr skills to design open hardware for PSGroove to stop pirates from profiting. Our goal is to sell the open hardware at cost to anybody who wants it.
Here is a alpha design created on geda. We will let you guys know when the final design is done and the price seems to be around 3 dollars each."
Stay tuned for more PS3 Hacks news. Also be sure to drop by the PS3 Hacks Forum for updates!

Note from Nvidia about drivers
Hello Android Development Community
We appreciate all the interest and passion surrounding the NVIDIA Tegra Platform and we take our support for the development community seriously. NVIDIA has been working with Google and Motorola to provide the open source community with the required drivers and other binary code to build full Android OS images for the Tegra 2 powered "Motorola Xoom". We expect Google to make those components available as part of the Android Open Source Project soon.
In addition, NVIDIA is working on a full release of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for our Tegra 2 Dual Core and Tegra 3 Quad Core reference devices to be made available early next year. This release package will comprise of binary code, drivers developed on our reference platforms and any patches necessary to ensure stability & performance with ICS. We hope the open source community can leverage this release for their work on all Tegra devices.

These petitions are of no use. The only option we have is to wait.
i know i know... online petitions dont accomplish anything.. but i guess im just a bit desperate.
ive seen that statement and what troubles me is that it mainly concerns xoom which is actually using a different kind of tegra2, ventenara or sth like that whereas 2x has harmony tegra 2, so if nvidia releases drivers for xoom, we wont have much use of them

Samsung - CM - Exynos... whats all the fuss about?

Hello
I'm reading a lot of comment about people never buying a SAMSUNG phone again on this forum.
I believe it has something to do with CM team ( who are these guys? ) and the CPU type and source code.
Could you please care to elaborate? As I am planning on upgrading to GN2 but ofc I need root access and the latest OS all the time
Thank you.
Which post are you refering to? I just seem to see post saying how awesome the Note 2eand SIII are!

It's not just 1 post,
All around the forum , especially in the GN forum ( where I spend most of my time ) I see people complaining about Samsung devices in the future and how they will never buy another samsung again ...
I guess it all depends whether or not you want to run CM custom roms on your device.
Furthermore Samsung promised to release the Exynos sources...So we'll just wait and see
Problem ist that the source code is no available and without no new CM AOSP AOKP Roms possible. The company said in the past that they will release the code, but till today they don't.
Other companies like Sony did it better and supports the community. That's also a reason why great Dev won't work for our Note...
It's not impossible to bring new roms without sourcecode - we still have CM10 and will get CM10.1 - but the experience is not the best, and devs have to put A LOT of work to even make it work.
Samsung promised they will release their sources - yet untill today - they didn't. So it's simple as that, if they release sources - devs might finally fix some bugs and push CM10 into stable. Without sources we might never go out of nigthlies because some bugs might never get fixed.
As for SONY, yes they release all their sources, but remember that they used to be like Samsung untill their market share shrinked, so now they're most likely just trying to appeal to customers with that. Hope they won't change their mind about it when/if their sales go high again ( I'm looking at you Xperia Yuga )

Samsung didnt want the devs to work for the android community because in the end it gives an advantage to google and its os. Samsung wants people to buy its phones because of their new features added in their TW that are not available on true android. They in the future wants their devices ti be free from the android pool. Because of the tiring update process. No source code release is just what keeps dev from moding their devices so they can market their new phones and limit those features in the old models. I dont think they will care about dev going to other vendors. Because once they got hold of a new indigenous OS. they will market its dev kits and hardware for developers and they know how to bring them back.

General Inquiry: Pitch in your ideas!

Galaxy Note 4 is Samsung's 2014 Note series flagship device. When using a flagship device, we want the latest and the greatest technologies available. That's true for the software as well. I've been working hard with Samsung Software Engineers to bring you the latest features for your Galaxy Note 4. At the time of this post, Android Lollipop testing has reached its final phase, we're preparing our servers for mass rollout. The question is... "If there is one thing that you would like your Galaxy Note 4 device to have, what would it be?"
So far, we've received requests for...(These have already been implemented in the Android Lollipop upgrade).
1) Radio stability including GPS, WiFi, and LTE connections.
2) Android Lollipop.
3) Touchwiz UI Optimization.

Fix all you listed and 64 bit support for exynos
The one thing that I miss from my S4 is the ability to put Settings shortcuts on the Homescreen, why was this taken away in the Note 4?
I could put Battery, Data Usage and Tethering shortcuts in the HS on my S4, but can't in the Note 4, is this due to Android 4.4.4 OR updates to Touchwiz?

Thank you! Your request has been accepted! We'll add that support into the minor lollipop update scheduled for early May through late August, depending on your region.
1. Memory leak bug in lollipop fixed.
2. Knox express - ability to deploy apps and screen capture policy deployment like the full knox enterprise version.
3. Bug in calculator fixed (I have filed a ticket and they tell me this should happen anyway but just checking).
4. air gestures working for all stock apps (like the fake note 4 which has a better air gesture system).

I don't mean to be rude, I don't spend a lot of time around the other forums and so haven't seen you around, but all this seems too good to be true, if it is true then please accept my apology, I am grateful to have someone from the samsung team taking inquiries.

Thanks.

No it's fine. I perfectly understand. I should've introduced myself in the original post. I am the manager of Samsung Media Specialist in software division A. I work closely with the public and software engineers to further develop and improve our products. Would you like me to post the email communication that I've had with the engineers regarding your inquiry?

That would be great if you don't mind it will help put my mind at ease.
I hope more OEMs take this route, just makes CRM seem like it is truly taken seriously in this industry, which is what I have been wishing for many years now.
tk is legit.
also here a suggestion for samsung rather than the samsung note 4 team (if you know anyone at a higher level) :
you have 5 (or is it 6?) versions of knox like you have fifty different phones. you should have one samsung knox with all the enterprisey stuff included and consolidate it all into two pricing models - below 250 seats free, above 250 seats pay per seat. it would make things easier rather than trying to chose between myknox, knox express, knox premium, knox entrpise, knox government etc. etc. they all have the same basic functionality - why not just combine them ? sometimes even your knox guys have no idea what they are doing (e.g. knox express for small businesses has DoD CAC functionality from knox government enabled), so just have one knox for everyone.
also: another note 4 suggestion - support for RAW camera saves with no processing done. in stock camera app.

You don't have anything to do with cell providors like Tmobile? You are strictly Samsung. Are those updates engineered Internationally or here in the USA since I see you are from Georgia? Just curious. Thank man.
My wishlist:
1. Bring s voice back to alarm (stop, snooze)
2. Ability to re-map Recent Apps softkey button as an option button.

I work strictly for Samsung and T-Mobile is currently my cell service provider. Updates are engineered for all devices including all carrier variants. What I am doing on this forum is gathering information about the userbase and their wants/needs. After a week, the "base" update will be created remotely using our proprietary software by 12 software engineers from each region. "base" update is an update that can be installed on any Samsung devices carrying the same prefixes.
I am currently in Atlanta, GA working and collaborating with the engineers remotely.

please please enable on exynos versions since i have a 910U.
also 2 more suggestions - neither of them from me but from other people i know who own note 4s - but which may not be possible -
1. Good help manual on the phone itself. Help manuals are available to download but a good help manual when you boot up the phone (preferably as a continuously updated app as the device is updated or a pdf in the current language of the phone which gets downloaded on language selection or something). But it should have a nice standard question mark help icon which i can click on to read about all the features on the phone.
2. Simple one click backup/restore to PC tool wirelessly. (Background : This person used to use a Nokia phone which had a one click tool (ovi?) on the PC which downloaded wirelessly the phone, all its apps, all its settings and all files on all SD/internal storage into directories on the PC. I know kies cant do that without root for the app settings and files. This would also be useful to me if it backed up the knox container in encrypted form and could restore it).

Request for other operating systems on Android One

This is a request thread for developers to port non-Android OSes to Android One devices.
Hello there users and devs of Android One!
Here in this thread, I will put forward the rationale for developers to port mobile operating systems that don't have a robot as a logo to our devices.
Android One is well supported by Google and (somewhat shockingly) MediaTek. Source code can be found on Google's official repositories and as a result, the custom ROM development scene is very much alive. The only thing lacking are the ports of other platforms. We have the install base to test ports (I think), we have CM support (this helps with porting some systems such as FirefoxOS and Ubuntu Touch) and we surely have devs who can do it (you know who you are and I hope that you're reading this).
As for users, please comment down below for what operating systems y'all would like to see on your phones so that we can grab the attention of those heroes behind the screen! Developers can reply to a request directly or PM me if you want to talk. It would be nice if you coders would respond.
P.S. Thanks for all the ROMs and the entire community is grateful for the works you all did for Android One users around the globe! :good:
buy a nexus device and u will have that OS
Android One devices are like cheap nexus devices
The reason many buy Android One phones is to get the vanilla experience for cheap. Some buy it because it's a Google device, therefore, easy to tinker with. Also Nexus devices may not be found easily at retail shops in some countries. That's why I bought Android One. What this thread is hoping to achieve is to (at least) get discussion started on other OSes in our phones. It's very likely that there are people here who bought Android One because of the Nexus-like experience being more accessible.
Will really appreciate the work to port other OS to android One... Hope someone makes that happen
Yes.Can't wait to see another os
FirefoxOS has already been ported to sprout, by Shahidujjaman Khan Anik. He said that he'll make a thread soon.
https://facebook.com/story.php?stor...129499414:2:0:1451635199:-7540004895718870160
Great!
That's really nice! I wanted to try my hand at porting it myself, but I ran into an issue during the build process. Glad to hear that someone was successful in doing so!
Hopefully this is only the beginning of OS diversity on Android One.
P.S. Best of luck to the developer and I'll start testing on my device soon.
P.P.S. I'm considering making a thread for him, is that allowed and could I hand over management and/or ownership to the dev after creation?
Happy to see Firefox OS on android One. Hope to see more of them too
Btw is hike available on firefox OS by any means?

What about windows ?Did anybody port it?
Cannot compute
Windows mainly runs on the x86 architecture, while most Android devices like ours run on the ARM architecture. Mainstream Windows will not run and Windows 10 Mobile is closed-source; what this means is that the code is inaccessible for anyone wanting to port it. Unless Satya Nadella sees fit to open up Windows source code, this won't happen.
