Just out of curiosity has anyone able to find a fix for this issues as well any flashable Zips out there? I've been having this phone for a very long time even though I still can't resolve my issues with the noice on the top speaker as well with the sudden shut down when on 40% to 30% gets me frustrated but I still love my Nexus 6 I wish there was a fix these issue I can't send mine for repair since it expired of the warranty!
Your issues with the speakerphone and sudden shutdowns are unrelated. The speakerphone issue was fixed some time ago in custom ROMs, and if I recall correctly was never present in stock. Your shutdown issue is because your battery is worn out. You'll need to replace it.
Yep, bad battery, had to replace mine at the start of the year, if it's at 30-40% don't expect much more out of it, the battery can't put out the required voltage the system needs to hit clock speeds. Could limit clock speeds for a very temp fix if desperate lol.
Far as the battery goes, my advice is get one that's already bent into shape / curved. I made the mistake of getting a flat one and had to curve it myself which is basically impossible. Turns out the funny thing with the Nexus 6 is the shape of the battery fully dictates the shape of the midframe, if it's not perfect then the midframe bends to match the battery not the other way around, and you can imagine what this does to the entire phone since having a warped midframe + battery will make the entire device to fit the same form. Sitting mine on a level surface it is clear it is no longer straight. I've tried to redo it many times but repeatedly bending a battery is not very advisable :-/ lol.

Ah alright thanks for the advice I had mine for a long time and it hasn't been doing that and now I noticed the speaker crackle and sudden shut downs even when playing Clash of clans I hear static on the top speaker and it shuts down :/ making me annoyed it's settled that I'll replace my battery I don't want to get a new phone just yet because I surely do love the N6! It's one of my all time favorite Phablet!

Hi guys,
I was going to buy a used HTC Dream and I was wondering what defects or problems I should look for. So far I've read about people hearing buzzing during calls and squeaky cases. Obviously I would check if the phone would boot and make calls but I'm not sure what else could be wrong with it. Thank you.
I've had no problems with mine other than it squeaked when I got it like you mentioned. But that is easily fixed with an exacto knife and 30 seconds.
Defects? i have had no problems whats so ever with my phone since i have been having it...sound quality might be off but thats because of poor signal though
memory card comes loose all the time. sometimes from slight movement, sometimes from slamming the screen closed to fast. sometimes when sitting on the counter and nothing at all is touching it. this is a problem because if you have apps2sd and swap it will crash the phone and corrupt certain apps.
also my D and F keys are going out. The chin is a horrible design "feature". An attempt to make it look more like a phone but it just makes it hard to press buttons while it's on the table.
the amount of ram reported in specs is missleading. in other phones HTC makes they dont count the radio chips ram in the spec.
battery is pretty small. most people opt for the 2400MH one which makes the thing huge.
there is no 3.5mm jack. (wtf mates)
lots of wasted space on the front of the phone that could be used for more screen space.
the chin doesn't slide with the screen making a large block on the right side of the keyboard that makes it hard to type.
The price I pay for android
Sliding mechanism gets loose after a while
Poor battery life, no matter what you say.
Backlight on the keyboard is a tad bit uneven.
It doesn't dance the way I want it to.
Sometimes you can pop the SD card door off, which is annoying.
Strange camera that takes either fairly good pictures or absolutely terrible ones.
I can't run Crysis on it.
It causes you to have OCD and constantly update ROMs and be completely obsessed with it trying to make it better until the point you no longer have a social life and your one and only friend is your G1, then you finally brick it.

I gotta disagree with the chin.. I think its pretty awesome... ugly... but oh so useful... I've dropped my phone at least a dozen times and not a single scratch on the screen because the chin elevates the screen above the ground so its actually very hard to scratch the screen from dropping it ;D

ugly? i think it gives the phone character. like it says to other phones "i will kill you and eat your children and lick their blood off my chin because i have chin."
I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem, but from day one I found that the outer keys traveled further, and the inner keys (on the keyboard) didn't travel nearly as far. It's kinda annoying, as the outer keys feel nice to use >.>
But yeah other than that: battery life, my sdcard door had to be glued back on and the screen creaks on the bottom right corner (exacto knives ftw). It's still a damn good phone.

As for my HTC Dream, it's great. The battery life is poor though, I wish I could tweak it to "Supah High Energy Saver" Mode, I have to recharge it twice a day (one via USB at school, and one on AC at home).

I am sorry, but I do not believe that unless you are maybe browsing with 3G off, Wi-Fi off, Bluetooth off along with the display brightness at the lowest it will go. Then maybe. Why? Because I don't even use the internet for 2 hours a day, that is a lot and I still have to recharge at the end of the day. 3 days is what people using 2400mAh extended batteries are getting out of their phone.

Me too. Same keys. I have to practically MASH my f key down to get it to register lately. My D key works when I try using *just it*, but if I'm typing quickly it never does and then when I go back and press it, it seems to work with no problem.
Also, my DEL key is starting to go. ]
It also drives me nuts, when I'm typing, that the phone isn't vertically more symmetrical.
i can narrowly get 3 days out of my G1 with a 2400Mah bat, the stock battery is good for a day thats it.
the good part about the 2400 Mah bat besides the excellent bat life is that it makes the phone so large its much easier to type on the keyboard afterward IMO

Bought N6 off Mobile Phones Direct. Good service. No issues.
Phone charger starts whittling.
Motorola replace charger.
Phone slowly develops symptoms of dodgy battery within 6 weeks:
Expanding battery, case pulling away, red hot charging and draining fast.
After lots of liaison with Motorola who did their best to suggest it was my apo usage they eventually take it for repair. I sent it off ' immaculate ' apart from the fault.
Despite me sending loads of documented online proof that devices like this are being replaced, the Phone comes back 'repaired' not replaced which disappointed me.
Any way I get it back a week later, and initially the phone seems better; apparently it's had a new back and battery.
However I noticed the back was not flush. About .5mm out in alignment and its slightly raised.
In addition, the phone battery gets up to 40 odd degrees when charging and at times it's not pleasant to touch, it's that hot when charging. This is how it all started in the first place!
They've offfered to take it back 'again' and do a ' sort this once and for all ' repair.
I just feel hard done by here. The phone was brand spankers in April and 3 months down the line it's in for a second repair and Motorola aren't even considering replacing this obviously dodgy handset.
If this second repair isn't perfect and working satisfactorily, surely I have some sort of legal rights here to demand a replacement under the not fit for purpose sales of goods act ?

40C, you do realize that a human body on average is at 37C?? 40C isnt even close to being considered hot. when charging, 40C can be considered cool, not hot. lol.
Yeh I realise this I'm just saying that the CPU temp app suggests that temp, but to touch the phone is red hot. Like a cup of tea after its been sat for 10 mins Max.
Thanks for the condescending tone though.
Red Hot suggests burning your skin off. Red Hot would melt the device.
The device is going to get somewhat hot. Not red hot as you suggest.
If that were the case, you would easily be able to separate the glass from the LCD and also pull the LCD from the frame.

unfortunately, feel isnt an accurate way to discuss temperature. all feel does is show you whats warmer or cooler than what you are feeling with. and that has nothing to do with my tone towards your issie, it just is what it is. i read people complaining constantly that their phone reaches 40C(lol). well, guess what, it can get much hotter normally, up to 100C, thats 212F, or the boiling point of water.
i feel bad for you about your issue, but that happens. but 40C when charging has nothing to do with it.
I'd send it back for the second look-see, since you feel that the back is out of alignment (picture, please?)
I'd offer that the heat issue doesn't seem extreme for a phone, depending upon how it's being charged (e.g., fast charge). Also, do you keep this in any sort of case, perhaps?
I've actually never used the Motorola charger, instead I use a USB 99% of the time. I do recall reading about battery issues with a minority of folks who used the fast charger, so perhaps that's what you initially hit?

For starters the app might be inaccurate but all I know is the phone to touch is considerably hot. Heat kills battery life or increases degradation so therefore it won't be long at this rate, before I need another new battery. My point is this is how it all started and its starting again. Motorola seem quite happy to keep repairing. My simple question was where you feel I stand before claiming unfit for purpose. In a 2 year contract I expect the phone to be reliable but i have no trust in this device. I'll send it back see what they do. Probably another case and send it back.

and unfortunately, touch does not give you a temperature reading. ok, try this experiment, itll show you about touch and temperature. get 3 glasses of water, one cold, one hot, and one room temperature. put your left hand in tbe cold water and your right hnd in the hot water. keep them there for about 3 minutes. then take out both hands and put both hands into the room temp water. your left hand, which was in cold water, will now feel warm. and your right hand, which was in hot water, will now feel cool. yet they both are in the same temp water.
anyways, send it back, and a hope for a better future from me to you
Right.....Thanks for that. However I know the difference from a phone thats warm to touch and overheating. I expect warm, but I know the phone should be getting this hot, end of. I'm not the only one as well with this issue... Just do a google search. See for yourself. Clearly im pissin in the wind here.

battery bloating, no you weren't the only one. with a heat issue, you are. sure, you can google and find people that think they have heat issues with the device, but in reality, the issue is in their heads.

Mobile Phone Direct in the end replaced - as I was told it fell to the retailer regardless of 28 days or not, if its within 6 months in the UK it falls to the retailer in cases like mine with faulty products. In the end, after sending the phone off to the retailer, they replaced it with a new one one, no issues - took long to get there, but I did in the end.
The new one was perfect throughout my contract. Not a single overheating issue - although it did get warm when charging (nothing like before) and the battery and back cover remain fine.
I've had an HTC One M7 since september 2013. I've replaced it with an LG G4 last July, but it remained in use for extra game accounts (mostly Clash of Clans) and has sat on my desk in its otterbox for the last 7 months and has not left that desk or been used for anything else but those games. This phone has never been dropped, either.
Tonight, I was dropping trophies on this clash of clans account when I suddenly noticed an orange discoloration on the lower left portion of the screen. It persisted when I hit home and navigated other screens. Puzzled, I looked closer and noticed the screen is bowing out. I can see a small gap starting to form at the center between the glass and the phone's bezel. I can even push it down a little and it comes back up. I took it out of its case and it looks pretty bad.
I have no idea what's causing it to do this suddenly, I haven't mishandled the phone ever. Even worse so, what would cause this if the phone has been pretty much sitting in one place for 7 months? Some basic googling about the problem reveals that this can happen if the battery is swelling. The phone DOES get really hot when I play any game on it, but it always was this way... HTC One M7 seems to be a heat generator. Could my battery actually be swelling? Is there an easy way to tell that this is the reason, and not just the screen's glue wearing off or whatever they used to keep it in the bezel? From what I understand, this phone's battery could explode and either harm me or set fire to my area. I have taken it off the battery charger and turned the phone off and plan to leave it that way until I figure out what's going on.
This HTC One was bought from an AT&T store and was a part of my plan with them, and I'm using its original charging cable. I have run a battery statistics app on the phone and it claims to be in good health, though the operating temperature was kinda high, at 114 F. But do keep in mind I was just running a game moments before.
Can anyone help shed light on how I can figure out what's wrong and possibly fix it? Given the HTC One doesn't have a removable battery, I'm guessing I am down one android device and thus no longer have a unique device to maintain the game accounts... I don't know what to do, or how worried I should be about this.
Hi,
The battery is replaceable, it's just a pain and will take a bit of research and time. I've replaced the screen and battery on mine with no damage whatsoever to the case.
I have a new camera and top speaker waiting to go into my m7 now as I have the purple tint and fuzzy audio issues. My m7 is a Frankenstein phone as it is due to a black front and silver back.
Check out the various you tube videos on tear down. You will have to dissemble the entire phone as the battery is behind the screen. I found you need a guitar pick a Philips 00 screwdriver (I think that's the size) and a plastic pry tool. If your phone is glued shut then work in the pick and wait a few minutes then work it in a little further. The glue seems to release with no damage if you let it slowly separate under slight pressure and don't force it.
If it's your battery that's swelling then I'd hold off using it. Lithium batteries are scary when they malfunction.
Good luck!
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Free mobile app
This is my first post here, and I come with a really peculiar problem, that drove me insane for the past week.
Here's the deal, about a week ago I noticed that some of the images in my download folder looked kinda funny, as in little boxy and not properly anti aliased, grainy and started looking closer at other pictures and ui elements, just to notice they're all the same, and not only in the phone UI and pictures, but in apps too, the text and pictures on instagram are just not properpy anti aliased, like showing a lower resolution altogether. In Instagram the round graphics are jagged on top and bottom like a line in paint. A white background looks gray dotted all over at regular intervals.
The only thing I can think that could've triggered this was me accessing the recovery to show a friend how to perform a cache partition wipe, then just booted back and making no changes (stock recovery). After noticing the problem I actually performed a cache wipe with no effects.
In safe mode the screen looks the same, and the physical screen is clean, with no oils that could give off this effect.
It's observable as far as 30 centimeters away.
My battery started to drain massively too.
So my question is, is this an hardware issue, or if it sounds like something you've encountered, how could I fix this, and before you say so, it's not all in my head
The firmware version is EVA-L09C432B399, this phone has not been dropped in almost 6 months and it's 13 months old. Thank you in advance!
If your battery just recently started to drain (and if it's not battery getting old), check into this issue about recent Goofle Pkay Services update causing issues

Sad to hear,
Meanwhile ive sent a ticket to Huawei Support and they recommended i do an Factory Reset, and so, 3 days ago, i did, good news is my battery life has tripled, bad news, the screen is in the same condition, and i just read in a questionable article, but who knows, that it might have open circuits on the flex cable due to overheating melting the plastics, not likely since i never allow it to overheat, ive been using it extensively since my pc broke though. Or me hitting a table corner while having it back side facing forwards in my front jeans pocket, since the flex cable is right above the battery on the back side, this is still just speculation, and i intend to turn it in for warranty. Keep you posted when i do.

Happened a few times, in class it's really narrow, but usually I take really good care of it, dropped it twice in its lifetime in the first 2 weeks, it was twice as big as the HTC desire I used to have.

I posted this in the official Samsung forum but I get the feeling that nobody there has ever been inside a phone. Hopefully get better feedback here!
Going to provide a rundown of the phones history..
The screen started to go slightly green randomly about a year ago. But I noticed that turning the screen off and on again fixed it.
This issue became more and more frequent as time went on during a few months use.
Then it transitioned over to a permanent problem, with no amount of reboots or whatever to make a difference.
Then horizontal lines started to appear which would travel up and down the screen leaving the picture black in some parts.
Then I noticed another thing, turning the screens brightness down to about 20% removed the lines, and made the phone usable again (albeit still with a green tinge).
I thought that it must be a power issue rather than a screen issue, so changed the battery but sadly that didn't have any effect.
More months go by, and that 20% threshold got shorter and shorter until I had to keep it at around 10% brightness to get a full screen picture.
And now finally the phone seems to have died. It doesn't turn on anymore and there is no vibration so its definitely not just the screen being off.
FYI I couldn't see any signs of moisture and the moisture sticker hasn't tripped. But I still haven't ruled that out. I will examine further after getting some feedback..
I have of course tried all of the obvious like factory reset, clear cache partition and all that.
Before I open it up again I would like to know what people think?
Cheers!
Is the battery good? If the battery was really degraded though normally it wouldn't boot.
I wouldn't throw too much money at it especially when you can get a used N10+ for around $350 now. A substantial performance upgrade.

Hi thanks for your reply!
Yes I have swapped out the battery for a new one. The way it deteriorated felt like moisture corrosion but didn't see any signs of moisture inside when I looked. It could be deeper underneath the mainboard though as all I did was replace the battery so didn't see further than that.
Yeah I won't put much money into it, but I do have a decent understanding of electronics so I was hoping there would be a fix which I am able to do at home with basic tools to hand. Many things can be fixed with a reflow and individual pieces are cheaper to replace than say an entire mainboard. But I have no knowledge on this sort of problem so I'll wait to see if anyone else has and then open it up again and take pics of what I find.
Cheers!

Inspect the ribbon cable contacts for corrosion if you suspect moisture damage. Without a factory test jig finding say a solder fracture on a BGA chipset will be a lot harder. That's also another place corrosion from moisture damage can hide.
Generally with moisture corrosion damage will be evident on the buses and power supply section of the board.
If water damage is present the mobo is pretty much doomed because of the latent corrosion process. Water will also damage the AMOLED display pixels themselves if they're exposed.

Thanks for that. I suspect the screen escaped damage based on how it looked. All pixels were fine but those horizontal black lines would travel up and down so feels like maybe the controller or ribbon as you say because it felt like the screen was getting less and less power as time went by forcing me to keep lowering the brightness so that makes sense. Although it doesn't explain why it doesn't switch on anymore. Unless the phone is built not to switch on if the screen is disconnected?
cheers

Make sure the power button and contacts are good. Since AMOLED displays have an active matrix it could be that or the mobo.
Maybe someone recognizes those syptoms... thankfully I never experienced them.

Thanks for your attention and advice!
Sorry for the delay. I have had it back open and inspected every part closely for moisture damage. Couldn't see any signs but while I was there I changed the battery which sure enough fixed the power issue.
Strangely, the screen worked 10x better for about an hour after reassembly! Then it started to go back to the usual black lines engulfing most of it at the mid-range brightness level but not at low or high brightness which I find very odd. Last time I'm sure it did it at any brightness level over around 15-20%
Anyway better to just let you see for yourself. I have taken some videos and photos.
At this point I'm thinking it has to he solely the screen thats faulty as if it was any sort of power issue then it wouldn't behave this way..
This video was taken straight after reassembly.

You're welcome. Did you inspect the display ribbon cable contacts? Someone who repairs these could probably tell by that vid. Probably the display, but I would try to verify that before you throw money at it. For $350-450 you could get a used N10+, a huge upgrade but no 3.5mm jack. Samsung leaves more off every year, too bad the price doesn't go down too. schmucks.
