Hello,
I recently just got my first PPC, the Qtek 2020i (HTC Alpine). I was under the impression that this model has a GPS receiver built-in. Is this true? I have managed to get the GPRS connection working and can browse the internet with it but I am having difficulty getting the GPS side of things working. Can anyone tell me how to get it up and running. I need to know what com port and baud speed the GPS receiver uses. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, so thanks in advance.
Stephane
Hi, the IIi has no internal GPS. You would have to use an external or Bluetooth GPS reciever for that .
Thanks, I was suspecting that would be the case. I am looking at getting this one from ebay for quickness.
I also notice you have different rom details from my one. Is that something I should be updating? I am completely new to this PPC and franticly hunting about to get up to speed. Where can I get rom updates and other essential stuff for this HTC Alpine pda?
EDIT: I am reading this thread about Deathnoise's ROM. I am downloading it now and will attempt to install it.
EDIT2: I have also noticed my battery runs out pretty quick. It's a 2000mAh. I've seen 2400mAh on ebay, has anyone had the same issue and found a better battery or is this something I will just have to get used to?
EDIT3: Found a 3600mAh battery on ebay here, think I will be going for this one. It comes with a replacement back cover cause the battery is bigger.
Updated my rom with no problems and ordered my gps receiver and a new battery. Thanks again for confirming this for me.
Hi mate! i have this PPC since 2005, but now starting to use it a bit.
Whenever you have GPS installed and working, tell me, cause i'd like to have it also.
Thx

You're funny: your thread title says your Diamond is broken.
Then, you tell us how it fell down the stairs and you can't make WiFi work.
What do you think we can do for you?
Your Diamond apparently needs repair, you can't repair hardware with software, so your post is pretty much pointless, sorry to say that.
Or maybe try throwing it upstairs, it might do the trick..... But do it with wifi disconnected!
(It's how I try these days to recalibrate the gsensor...)

ROFL!!
thanks for the funny answer guys ...
The question is maybe someone as already disassemble it and the wifi part could be disconnected by the shock ...
Or by software .. make a sort of hardware diagnostic ..
I live in a bungalow for just that reason. However you could take a look at the Diamond service manual which is available to download from the wiki.
Update :
My wifi is reworking but with very very low signal .. i have to be very close from my routeur ...

Try looking in here:

This may have some answers for you. Hope this helps.
If I remember correctly, the Bluetooth/Wifi antenna is a combined one. If both fail, I guess it's just disconnected or the connection is severed.
Hi guys, u are great...i have a big problem: i disassemble and reassemble my X1i in order to clean keyboard (space,.,c don't work properly). Now keyboard works GREAT, like new but I have no more signal !!!! GSM(phone, sms) and UMTS/HSDPA (data) signal disappear...
I try many option, hard reset, to reassemble antenna hardware (top and bottom) but nothing....HELP ME
restart the phone without the sim card, and then , restart the phone with the sim card. Recheck the antenna connections. there must be something missing.

The desperate measure would be to disassemble the phone again and then reassemble it. Deserves another attempt... on your risk
hy guys...i try to reassemble my X1 three times but nothing...
Ask: in your opinion if i send my X1 to Sony they can fix it or my guarantee warranty expired???
same thing happened to me, but it just need little bit harder push on hardware antenna to click on place ( like i said that worked for me).
Thanks Sapa13...i will retry...
Hi my name is Mike. I am currently having a problem with my AT&T Tilt (8925)s GPS unit. I see the orange light at the top flashing but the phone is not recieving signal at all. I heard if you use HTC GPS Tool it will tell you if it works. I am using it right now and I am noticing all these messages rolling over the screen when I select COM4 4800:
$GPVTG,,T,,M,M,,K*4E
$GPGSV,1,1,00*79
$GPGGA,,,,,,0,,,,,,,,*66
$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*32
repeated over and over again.
When I click the satellite tab nothing is found.
Also I am not sure if it matters that my keyboard is the old version and it claims to be a 8925 when it looks different in pictures online.
If anyone can help fix this problem I will pay $3 via paypal (IF ALLOWED BY MODS AND ADMINISTRATOR, OTHERWISE FORGET IT)
I found this on a website but I still dont understand why its doing that.
$GPGSV,1,1,00*79 = 0 Satellite Vechicles in view
$GPGGA,,,,,,0,,,,,,,,*66 = No GPS Fix data available
$GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53 = V in field 2 means navigation receiver warning (invalid position)
$GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,*32 ==> Automatic mode (3D/2D) & Fix not available
$GPVTG,,T,,M,,N,,K*4E = NO GPS data available
EDIT: I tried the GPS on Android 2.1 on the phone and still no connection at all.
I dont understand this.
Please help me!
Thanks,
Mike
I take it you have tried a soft and hard reset?
Are you outside when it is looking for Satellites? It can also take some time to get an initial lock on. Perhaps if you switch off the auto-off/powersaving part of the phone and go outside, set it on a wall and wait...and wait....and wait... and hopefully it will get a lock.
Good luck I recall years ago with a Garmin GPS that was Serial and not Parallel receiver it would take aaaaaaaages to get a lock on ie, up to 45 minutes! Usually after it was OK but even so!
Is this a factory rom?
Not Sure of your location... However when I experienced problems in the STATES it was usually the Radio I need to change... Plus having [QuickGPS] installed to help moved the GPS initialization along [Finding a satellite lock] For me about 2-5 Min on average, depending on location. Also not sure what you use for Navigation but I use TomTom and it's been problem free....
Good luck

Good advice.
Got one questions for you guys, are you using additional antennas or is there's a build-in one? My kaiser really sucks about gps, it hardly ever locks gps even outdoors. But got a solution: Get a cooper wire which fits into GPS antenna socket, cut about 5-5.5cm of it and stick it into the socket you can bend it so it won't disturb. Maybe you can stick it under the rear cover so it won't be visible.
With this short cooper wire i've got a steady gps lock even indoors.
Sorry for my bad english

Oh sorry
I have, finally, succeed in fixing my GPS issue
I have taken a short wire do a loop with it and plug it into the GPS external port.
I have sticked my cheap installation into the mobile back !
Please find enclosed two pics representing my installation... with a brief scheme!
Hope it helps.
Kind regards from France,
Nino
