In Car Bluetooth Handsfree Issue (No Sound, No Microphone) - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Symptoms:
Phone connects to the car just fine. Streaming audio from Spotify works great, with all track metadata showing on the car's screen. However, phone calls will not work. I can place the call using the car's built in controls and the phone responds as expected - the target caller's phone rings. But.....I can't hear anything through the car nor can they hear me when they answer. I have to always re-route the call to the phones speaker which is really frustrating. Same issue if they call me - music mutes ready for the incoming call, I answer, silence..... (until i force the call through the loudspeaker)
Car's Tested (all the same):
Hyundai i30
Audi A6
Land Rover Discovery
ROMS Tested (Cache all wiped between installs):
OOS Nougat (Stock, Locked Bootloader)
LineageOS 14.1
OOS Oero 5.0 (Relocked Bootloader)
OOS Oreo 5.0.1 (Locked Bootloader) - current
Is there a ROM or Kernel that would fix my problem? This used to work when the phone was new, but didn't fancy rolling back to the original firmware if possible - I'm become accustomed to the new features in Oreo

I've had the issue where the music would not play, but phone calls were working correctly. In my case I went to the Device Bluetooth Settings in my car and had to enable the ability for Music Playback. Also had the option to enable/disable calls and Pandora.

Is there a solution by now? I have exact the same issue, tried several Roms and different handsfree. Switched several settings in bluetooth options. A mounth ago I opened a ticket on oneplus support but no solution till now.

CM 12.1 droid turbo Bluetooth calling not working

I recently flashed CyanogenMod 12.1 nightly on my droid turbo. I Have had a good user experience so far, although there is only one issue that is really effecting my decision of using this ROM as my daily driver. My phone has no audio during Bluetooth calling and the microphone is not working as well. I'm not sure if this is a known issue or if there is a fix available at this time. I would greatly appreciate any responses in this thread troubleshooting the issue, so we can all resume safe hands-free driving.

Do you happen to be using the 11/29 nightly? I haven't tried any other newer release yet, but I have been able to successfully connect via bluetooth to my car and stream audio. I've had no indication of it failing. The one thing that got me at first when connecting to my car and streaming was that bluetooth has it's own volume control (which I turned up to maximum on my phone). I'm not sure that would explain the microphone though (if it's even related to your issue).

Depends on the bluetooth device you have. My Jawbone ICON earpiece works fine, and my Pioneer car stereo makes calls fine. Other people have had some issues. The dev says he needs a logcat for missing bluetooth configurations.

Also for the bluetooth sound not playing issues, I'll need a logcat for those, since it's possibly a missing configuration for some of them.

And you've gone into the phone audio settings (when it's connected) to make sure your mic audio, etc wasn't turned down? Audio settings change when Bluetooth is connected...
I use Volume Control Plus and put a shortcut on the desktop so I have quick access to all the phone volume settings.

yes I have made sure it is turned up on the head unit and the phone when connected and I have also tested when in a call selecting Bluetooth toggling back and forth from ear piece speaker but no change
This is why I ditched cm12.1 and went back to stock. My bt headset worked with music but no phone calls.

Bluetooth Crashing

I'm having Bluetooth problems on my N6. They began around the time of 7.1.1, like everyone else, but a repeated BT crash is ongoing. Searching it looks like other discussions indicate the known BT problems were fixed in the March update, but I am hoping I have missed something. Bone stock N7, running 7.1.1 with the June 5 security patch.
I have reinstalled from the April 7.1.1 system image, disabled Instant Tethering, and disabled power management on the BT apps.
- I use BT a lot: media, phone calls, and so on, at least a couple of hours a day; I also have an LG Watch Urbane (AW2.0), and a Moto 360 before it.
- I had the same issues as everyone else in February, with the shutdowns and so on. I had not noticed BT issues before that.
- I relocked the bootloader in April, with the accompanying reset and system reimage.
Ever since February, BT has reset at random. This will happen occasionally, as often as 3x in 20 minutes:
- BT icon will indicate disabled
- any BT media/call will stop
- watch will indicate disconnect.
- Calls usually transfer to the earpiece, after a couple seconds of silence.
- 3-5 seconds later, BT indicates enabled
- devices all reconnect
- call transfers back to BT headset, most of the time.
This does not only happen when I am actively using BT for audio - if I'm driving with media paused it will suddenly start playing, suggesting that the phone has disconnected and reconnected in the background. I have not tried completely disabling BT in the car, since I do sometimes need to take calls while driving.
I'd love to be able to change a setting to fix the problem, but if someone can confirm they don't have these problems with a custom kernel and/or firmware I'd be interested in knowing that too. Thanks for any suggestions/pointers/advice!
I've not been stock since early 2015 I'm running Pure Nexus without any 3rd party kernel. I use BT non-stop without trouble. The last time I remember having any BT issues (actually similar to what you're describing) was in 2016 when I was using a AOSPA based ROM.

Stock 7.1.1. June update. Rooted, unencrypted. No bt issues.
In the play store there's an app to fix Bluetooth issues on rooted devices.
I'm on SiX ROM + Blackbird Kernel + Magisk. Paired with a Huawei watch, and frequently use Bluetooth audio with my car stereo, Jaybird X2 headphones, and Anker portable speaker with no issue.

Bluethooth Headset Issues

Love the Note 8 and everything about it except how it interacts with bluetooth headsets. I troubleshooted starting with a few bluetooth devices LG HBS1100, Samsung Flex, Motorola earpiece and car audio bluetooth. Here are a few things I encountered:
1. None of answer call buttons on the headsets will answer calls, even the Samsung Flex does not function properly
2. If you using an internet driven app such as Skype, WhatsApp etc, it is the worse. In addition to the buttons not working properly
A. The call waiting feature does not work when using internet audio or video it disconnects those call and allow the other call to come through sometimes unprompted.
B. If you are using Skype, WhatsApp etc, sometimes the call suddenly drops, battery still medium to full on the headsets.
C. A and B only happens with bluetooth headsets, call waiting function as design with car bluetooth calls and traditional BT earpieces
Im am posting this because a phone with this price tags should have overcome these discrepancies , the company should have come across this somehow during testing hmmm. It was almost a deal breaker but I like having a stylus, beautiful screen , phone design and the note taking features. I have friends that I communicate with overseas but I don't call them everyday or I will just use the speaker phone when Im talking to them.
I came from a 7 plus and all features on the BT headsets worked (Not enough to sway me back to Apple but its just confirmation.)
Has anyone experience these and what was the remedy if there was one Thanks..... or dead I get sent a lemon?
Never owned a Bluethooth. ?

Have been using 2 bluetooth headsets and a Gear S2 watch to answer calls, have been able to make and take calls without a fuss, although I've always used the phone itself or the watch to answer a call. Never used call waiting. I use Viber as well to receive calls and never had a problem and no drops.
I had some odd issues when connected to my Car Blue tooth - I was using Hotspot on my phone to connect my Car's Android Navigation system - listening to I Heart Radio in the car - made a call - call connected - but several times during the call - Blue tooth suddenly disconnected for about 10 seconds and then reconnected.
This happened several times on different calls. I don't know if using WIFI while I was connected to blue tooth had anything to do with this - and I don't have the note any more (I returned it because it was OEM Locked ) should have an unlocked version next week and I will try again. But I saw your post and thought I would share.
My Senheiser MB pro 2 works fine with the Note 8. If there is any tests you want me to perform let me know.
Only thing I noticed today was that if I went out of range, the headset and phone would not auto reconnect when in range again , not sure if this is normal or not.
I have a Plantronic Edge. When I'm on Duo it starts the video call fine and after a few seconds it disconnects and goes to the speaker. So far it only does this in that app or at least that I can tell.
Issue with me is I don't recall how the behavior of my Bluetooth headset was on my other previous phone's, like I mentioned it disconnected when I was out of range then didn't reconnect automatically. Should it reconnect automatically?

Bluetooth issue with Audio-Technica m50xbt Headphones

Hello everyone,
Since I got my new pair of Audio-Technica m50x Bluetooth headphones (Bluetooth 5.0 version), I started having issues with the Bluetooth connection of my OP3T.
The bt connection experiences a turn on/off loop while trying to connect to the headphones. It happens sistematically as soon as the headphones battery drops below 75% approximately. No issues when the headphones are fully charged.
I have tried to connect the headphones to different devices, and they work without problems.
The only way to make the Bluetooth connection work, is to deselect 'Phone audio' in the settings of the paired device. But by doing so, I would need to give up using the headphones for calls.
I have always connected different Bluetooth devices (always 4.2 version) to my OP3T without any issues.
I have tried to wipe cache, reset network settings and even a complete factory reset. But no success.
I have the latest stock OxygenOS.
I believe it is a Bluetooth problem of the OP3T, since I have tested the headphones with different devices and they have always worked fine.
More Oneplus 3t users are sharing the same problem(cannot post links yet), but no solution has been found yet:
Similar topic in the oneplus community forum.
Have somebody already experienced such problem? Or do you know what this problem could be related to?
Thank you for your attention, and my apologies for the long post.
I have the exact same problem. OnePlus 3T as well.
Am on Android 8.0 OxygenOS 5.0.8.
I have the same exact problem. Always root my OP3T and install TWRP and install latest Magisk (my routine procedures).
Running stock OOS 5.0.8 (Oreo 8.0) and also recently bought Audio Technica M50xBT.
Same problem:
- if "Phone audio" is enabled then Bluetooth gets stuck in ON/OFF loop.
- if "Phone audio" is disabled then Bluetooth works fine (cant use the extra calling related features ) ....
I hope the Androi Pi update coming out (they already have BETA but im not trying it) solves these issues.
Because this Oxygen version fixed my "CAR BT issues" in my B7 VW Passat (2012) - just to find out for new headphones something else is not covered in the "logic in the code" dammit.
@liuk5 I did not notice the batter part you mentioned "It happens systematically as soon as the headphones battery drops below 75% approximately. No issues when the headphones are fully charged. "
I will charge mine to 100% and check it out (but obviously thats not sustainable, plus constantly topping off the ATH-M50xBT battery would decrease the battery lifespan)

Bluetooth microphone stopped working for everything except phone calls

Hi,
Since a few weeks I have a very annoying issue with my Note 9. The phone stopped using the microphone of a bluetooth device for all apps. It still uses the mic of BT for phone calls...
I have tested it with the following apps: Zoom , Teams, Skype and Whatsapp (voice). And also for recording video and the Samsung voicerecorder.
All of these apps worked perfect until a few weeks ago.
I have tested to following devices: my Sony MX1000 headphone, an old Jabra earset, a new JBL in-ear set and also my bluetooth carkit in the car.
All of these devices still work perfect with the phone of my wife.
And all of these devices use their microphones making phone calls.
Around the time it stopped working I started to use a Huawei GT2. So I installed their Health app. On the same day I recieved my JBL earphones. Not sure if that has anything to do with this issue.
I have done a factory reset twice. No luck...
The helpdesk of Samsung can't help. They advise to do a reset... Again...
It drives me totally crazy!
Is their anyone that can provide me some help?
Kind regards,
Peter
PS. I heard that Android 11 has a microphone switcher... Unfortunately the Note9 will never receive this version of Android.
same issue with my mi 10t pro,i think there is also some issue with your phone's mic
