"Group Messaging" option missing - Huawei P10 Questions & Answers

I have a P10 that was originally branded to a Canadian provider (VTR-L09C557B312) and the "Group messaging" option from the "Messaging App -> More -> Setttings -> Advanced" menu. I assumed that this option missing was a result of the branding so I rebranded the phone to VTR-L29C432B179 in the hopes that this brand would have the option (while also getting access to the Dual Sim functionality that was missing).
The rebrand was successful, but unfortunately the "Group Messaging" option is still missing. I realize there are other apps (Textra, etc) but the group messaging didn't work with those either.
I have an Honor 8 (FRD-L04C567B389) that has the option and it works perfectly. Does anyone have the group messaging option on their phone? If so, what Build number are you running?

Don't know if it's exactly what you mean, but there is an option to choose multiple contacts.
Start a new message and in the right top corner tap the contact icon. Then you can select multiple contacts.

Thanx for the reply but that's not actually what I'm referring to.
In the default messaging app, under the More -> Setttings -> Advanced" menu there is a "Group Messaging" option (see attached image1). Under this option there are two settings to choose from (see attached image2). The first option is "Send SMS to all recipients, and receive individual replies (group SMS)". This option is the default behavior for the phone. The second option is "Send MMS to all recipients (group MMS). This is the option I would like to set. The group MMS option keeps the messages from all participants in the conversation in a single thread. The default actions sends the messages individually to each person so all the replies are individual as well and not part of the group.
The attached screenshots are from my Huawei Honor 8. From reading online the menu option exists on various (all??) Huawei models (Honor, Mate, etc), but I haven't been able to find the option on the P10.

Sorry, which icon is that? The "person" icon? That allows me to add multiple people, choose groups etc. but doesn't allow me to send the message as a group MMS. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding which icon you're referring to?

Really? Do you have the Group Messaging setting I mentioned in the original post? What build number is your phone running?

I've emailed Huawei support about the "Group Messaging" option and am waiting to hear back. Does anyone have this option? If not, does group MMS work for you?

Group messages solution
I faced same problem and solution is a app called Go SMS pro

I see your screen shot and Huawei tells me same thing to do but I don't have that option and I don't know what to do. I tried downloading different SMS apps but still messages are not send or receive in group. I can send and receive individual message. Please someone advice.

Application By Which We can send SMS to Group Means more than 1 members by simply pressing two , 3 buttons
Still thinking how a costly phone with a so-called powerful OS (Windows Mobile) dont have this feature....
SMS Groups Messaging
This is built in to the Eris. Slect People, then select the 3rd icon from the left (Group of people), select add group, then select a contact and click group and put them in the group you want. THen when you want to send a group text go back to the group icon, select the group and then group text.
Enjoy

Is there an email app whith teses two features?

Is there an email app that has these two features?
1. The ability to "select all", then delete.
2. When forwarding an email, open "contacts" to select the recipients.
Thanks,

K-9 Mail
1. The ability to "select all", then delete. -- YES
2. When forwarding an email, open "contacts" to select the recipients. -- INDIRECT. Start typing, and it will show matching contacts in drop down as u type
Thanks for your reply disblo009. I have K-9 now and have had Maildroid and both will allow "all" delete but not "contact" selection. And both will match a contact to the first few letters typed. It's just that I usually forward emails to about 20 people; however, it's not always the same 20 people; therefore creating a "group" with the 20 address', as recommended by the developer of Maildroid, doesn't really solve the situation. The email program that was on my Captivate when I purchased it would allow you to use the contact list to select recipients but not allow "all" delete. It seems as though anyone who receives and forwards emails would appreciate these features; however, I can not find one program that has both.

"Select contact to share" bug with Marshmallow (MM)

When in Gallery and viewing a picture, if the share button is selected and then Messages is selected, instead of the normal behavior of attaching the picture to a message and opening the message in edit mode, a popup appears which says "Select contact to share" which offers the two choices between new contact or existing contact.
If existing contact is selected however it does not allow to select between alternate phone numbers or e-mail addresses for the contact and will automatically use the default number (or e-mail).
A suggested solution was that it is related to Voice over LTE setting which can be disabled in the dialer app.
Have seen posts on other forums about this and it appears to be on T-Mobile only devices. I'm also suspicious if perhaps it could be related to T-Mobile somehow trying to track who you are sending messages to? It wouldn't surprise me as they seem to be doing other creepy things like tracking all websites you visit.
Why would they need to do this to track who you're sending to? You send anything from your phone and it's easily tracked.

MMS

Hello, I've been using this device for several months now, just realized I don't have mms. The SMS app is Android messages and it's missing the option in settings to switch to mms. It's the international variant, using it on T-Mobile in the states. Anyone else notice/find a solution to this? If this is already discussed, please point me in the right direction.
I can see the 'add photo' seems to be missing from the messaging app.
But you can still go into the gallery and share via messaging, choose you contact and then it's ready to send.

Just click the + sign at the left hand side of the text input box.
Then you get all kinds of options for MMS messages.
Yes, lots of options. But not mms. I can start group conversation, and then add multiple ppl, but they get mass SMS, which is not mms. Individuals receive txt from me but not a group conversation mms.
Can you confirm that you have intl version on T-Mobile and also have mms option?
Seriously, no one else has this issue?

The + sign to the left of the area where you enter text in a text message opens up a dialog with many different options. If you select a picture, then the message type changes to MMS for that particular response. This is the USA firmware on an AT&T MVNO. Don't know about any other firmware variant.
Hmmm, so this must be due to the fact that I have intl firmware (which I kept to use finger print sensor). When I click on the + sign, I can choose every option except for mms.
In the settings, advanced, there's no option to toggle mms on (my friends on various devices using Google messages have this option.) Very strange.

Which region firmware are you using?
The reason I ask is because the OEM partition contains overlay APKs which control access to a number of features.
MMS/SMS is controlled by the "com.android.carrierconfig-res-305.apk" which has config options like:
PHP:
<boolean name="enabledMMS" value="true" />
<boolean name="groupChatDefaultsToMMS" value="true" />
<boolean name="enableGroupMms" value="true" />
It's possible that the values in your region are set to "false".
Edit to add:
I'm using the UK firmware with the US OEM sin because I want fingerprint AND T-Mo VoLTE.
Try a different text app like Textra. If that has the same problem, then you know it is something wrong with the phone.
My version must be Taiwan or HK, it was in Chinese when I first turned it on (so glad my colleague knew how to read and change the language immediately).
I have noticed that I am unable to send group messages, but only if there is an attached image. Anyone else?
Confirmation: If I use USA firmware, I have true Group messaging option with all messages going to all parties. Also can send image to group. If non-USA firmware, I have only Mass-text message, which is one initial broadcast to group (with no option to include images), and all subsequent messages in thread are only one-to-one.
Standard messaging to single party is fine regardless of firmware; can include images, etc.
Hope this clears up any lingering doubts.

Okay... I received my XZ1C this weekend and this is one thing I am struggling with: can't figure out how to enable Group MMS.
I do have the International Firmware with fingerprinting ( :victory: ) but I also need the MMS Group Messaging.
Any chance that this is related to AT&T ? Some posts about saying the carrier controls this. Any truth in this?
What is the final word on this? How to enable the group messaging?
Running XZ1X with Android 8.0.0 and latest updates from Sony.
I'm not sure, but I do use AT&T as carrier (through Consumer Cellular MVO).

This creates a "group" message which sends individual SMS texts to each participant in the group. It says right in the message body, just as described by the OP in the first page.
What we are not seeing, is the option to send group MMS messages.
Anyone with International Firmware able to verify if they have Group MMS messages?

We are talking about the stock Messages app, right?
I have a setting in the overflow menu > Advanced > Group Messaging, to switch between chat mode and mass text.
How about trying another messaging app? Textra has a similar setting.

Yes, I am talking about the stock Messages app, which on my previous Z5 Compact, was a Sony app and now on the XZ1C seems to be a Google app.
And I would like to have this working on the stock app instead of adding yet another app to patch things that should be working but are not.
It appears that you might have to choose between the fingerprint sensor (non-USA) and the ability to use full group messaging (USA only?). This also assumes that you use AT&T, or an MVO on AT&T towers, unless other carriers in the besides AT&T (in the USA) also have full group messaging enabled. Perhaps another XZ1C firmware variant has the best of both worlds?

Send Scheduled text message in S10

In my S8 I was using messages version 4.4.30.50 and it had the ability to schedule text message. I don't see that in S10. If it's truly not there, do you guys know of text msg app I can switch too that gives scheduling?
Yes, the option to send schedule messages is still there.
Go to messages app, open a conversation (or start new one by selecting the contact and when selecting the box to input the message) select the plus sign and select "Schedule Message".
Thanks got it!
