[Q] Heating issue

my phone gets really heated up even with normal usage, i.e., even if i just turn on the screen and look at settings menu or view photos etc, it reaches till 32 degrees, and if i turn on a game like riptide2, it reaches till 36 degrees very fast. same with charging,even in idle charging mode it reaches 36 degrees.
while idle, screen off it remains between 29 to 31 degrees
i checked with OS monitor, there is no rouge app eating up resources that ll heat up the mobile
Please help, if this remains the case my battery will wither away fast

In case you haven't notice, this is a water and dust proof phone with IP58 rating.
So expect a little heating from its tight protection where water can hardly get in.
As long as it didn't get too hot and make you uncomfortable, I think that's pretty okay from a user point of view.

thats true but when it gets beyond 34 degrees it gets uncomfortable , specially if ur on a call
wat i really wanted to ask is if this is normal and all u get the same temperatures, else i would return the phone for a replacement

Can't tell that is normal or not cause I've only one NTT ZR, but it do reach almost 40 degrees after running Antutu benchmark three times(take off back cover and uses IR thermometers Aim to the area near main camera).

So far it doesn't get too hot under heavy gaming or prolonged phone call AS LONG AS you are under a good ventilation.
When I was on a trip to a beach under a scorching sun, my camera stops functioning after shooting roughly 10 pictures.
It says "Cannot connect to camera due to high temperature in camera"
So if your phone gets too hot even you're in an air-conditioned room, you might wanna check it out.

It is normal until it gets 38 degree, after 45 degree you might see some malfunctioning on touch that doesn't work correctly, You then should cool your phone down immediately (turning off your phone might needed on some cases!)

Yep, it often stops the camera when it gets hot. Of course it happened more often in the summer. (folks down under: I know your summer is just about coming )
There is process running in the background Overheating monitor (or whatever) that is called. I do not recommend stopping that as you may burn your CPU or so.
By the way, do you guys then say the cover with the rubber seal is just the top of the crop, and due to the compact design, it sort of resist water in general, anyway? In summer it happened that a couple of drops of water got under the back cover. I was a bit worried.
Of course the usb charger slot cover does not seal that well as on day one - I am getting my dock next week or so.

i played 2 straight hours of real racing 3 today. drained the battery empty from 60% charge, either way, the device was defenetly not cold, but it didn't overheat.
i was comtrable holding it and i got no notifications about over heating, more over i paused the game at one point to take a picture of my cat who came bugging around, the camera worked just fine when it was hot.
i live in israel, ain't excatly the coldest country in the world...

Nice cat, but clean his eyes, dude!

Don't worry about the heating problem I watched videos where the sony Z (which is quite similar to our device) gets to a 47 degrees Celsius and then it stops heating, the processor downclocks and everything is fine. If you think that this is heat check what the LG Optimus GJ does, you can practically light a fire with it . All of this is due to the fact that it's sealed and can't cool down like other devices. Samsung Galaxy s4 also has these problems and lots of other devices too. Here is a video of the Z (it's in russian but you'll understand from the temperatures) that can show you how it compares to other devices (as I said our device uses the same chip so the results are similar) it also shows the battery performance.

Please help me solve this once and for all....

Bought N6 off Mobile Phones Direct. Good service. No issues.
Phone charger starts whittling.
Motorola replace charger.
Phone slowly develops symptoms of dodgy battery within 6 weeks:
Expanding battery, case pulling away, red hot charging and draining fast.
After lots of liaison with Motorola who did their best to suggest it was my apo usage they eventually take it for repair. I sent it off ' immaculate ' apart from the fault.
Despite me sending loads of documented online proof that devices like this are being replaced, the Phone comes back 'repaired' not replaced which disappointed me.
Any way I get it back a week later, and initially the phone seems better; apparently it's had a new back and battery.
However I noticed the back was not flush. About .5mm out in alignment and its slightly raised.
In addition, the phone battery gets up to 40 odd degrees when charging and at times it's not pleasant to touch, it's that hot when charging. This is how it all started in the first place!
They've offfered to take it back 'again' and do a ' sort this once and for all ' repair.
I just feel hard done by here. The phone was brand spankers in April and 3 months down the line it's in for a second repair and Motorola aren't even considering replacing this obviously dodgy handset.
If this second repair isn't perfect and working satisfactorily, surely I have some sort of legal rights here to demand a replacement under the not fit for purpose sales of goods act ?

40C, you do realize that a human body on average is at 37C?? 40C isnt even close to being considered hot. when charging, 40C can be considered cool, not hot. lol.

Yeh I realise this I'm just saying that the CPU temp app suggests that temp, but to touch the phone is red hot. Like a cup of tea after its been sat for 10 mins Max.

Red Hot suggests burning your skin off. Red Hot would melt the device.
The device is going to get somewhat hot. Not red hot as you suggest.
If that were the case, you would easily be able to separate the glass from the LCD and also pull the LCD from the frame.

unfortunately, feel isnt an accurate way to discuss temperature. all feel does is show you whats warmer or cooler than what you are feeling with. and that has nothing to do with my tone towards your issie, it just is what it is. i read people complaining constantly that their phone reaches 40C(lol). well, guess what, it can get much hotter normally, up to 100C, thats 212F, or the boiling point of water.
i feel bad for you about your issue, but that happens. but 40C when charging has nothing to do with it.

I'd send it back for the second look-see, since you feel that the back is out of alignment (picture, please?)
I'd offer that the heat issue doesn't seem extreme for a phone, depending upon how it's being charged (e.g., fast charge). Also, do you keep this in any sort of case, perhaps?
I've actually never used the Motorola charger, instead I use a USB 99% of the time. I do recall reading about battery issues with a minority of folks who used the fast charger, so perhaps that's what you initially hit?

For starters the app might be inaccurate but all I know is the phone to touch is considerably hot. Heat kills battery life or increases degradation so therefore it won't be long at this rate, before I need another new battery. My point is this is how it all started and its starting again. Motorola seem quite happy to keep repairing. My simple question was where you feel I stand before claiming unfit for purpose. In a 2 year contract I expect the phone to be reliable but i have no trust in this device. I'll send it back see what they do. Probably another case and send it back.

and unfortunately, touch does not give you a temperature reading. ok, try this experiment, itll show you about touch and temperature. get 3 glasses of water, one cold, one hot, and one room temperature. put your left hand in tbe cold water and your right hnd in the hot water. keep them there for about 3 minutes. then take out both hands and put both hands into the room temp water. your left hand, which was in cold water, will now feel warm. and your right hand, which was in hot water, will now feel cool. yet they both are in the same temp water.

Right.....Thanks for that. However I know the difference from a phone thats warm to touch and overheating. I expect warm, but I know the phone should be getting this hot, end of. I'm not the only one as well with this issue... Just do a google search. See for yourself. Clearly im pissin in the wind here.

battery bloating, no you weren't the only one. with a heat issue, you are. sure, you can google and find people that think they have heat issues with the device, but in reality, the issue is in their heads.

Mobile Phone Direct in the end replaced - as I was told it fell to the retailer regardless of 28 days or not, if its within 6 months in the UK it falls to the retailer in cases like mine with faulty products. In the end, after sending the phone off to the retailer, they replaced it with a new one one, no issues - took long to get there, but I did in the end.
The new one was perfect throughout my contract. Not a single overheating issue - although it did get warm when charging (nothing like before) and the battery and back cover remain fine.

extreme overheat issues?

Has anyone had issues watching videos at 4k and your phone suddenly gets so hot it's hard to use? I use my phone at Max brightness and even when in air conditioning at around 72.F room temp...my phone is constantly at around 106-107F

My T-MOBILE LG G6 does that.. and it also does that when I use the camera or GPS. It overheats to the point it's hot to hold it.

No issues here with over heating. Have you tried a factory reset??

No issues here either. Also, I have brightness on auto.

I am a volunteer driver. I was driving the bus from Hope BC to Chilliwack BC on Hwy #1 (freeway) with 10 passengers. While driving at 110 km i had my phone in my shirt pocket. Suddenly i felt a lot of heat coming from my phone. I reached into my pocket and found the heat from my phone to be so excessive i had to remove the phone and toss it into a cubby hole in the dash on the bus. I was concern do to the amount of heat that the heat the phone would burst into flames. I took the phone to Superstore to take it to where i bought it. Once there the service person put the phone on a charger to see if we could start the phone. He noted that the phone was extreamly over heated and said he would send it in for repair. The phone was in a protective casing and upon removing the case he found that covering for the camera was broken . Now i had to remove the phone from my procession for the saftey of my riders and for my own saftey. Now had this phone flared into flames i could have have a very serious crash with several injuries. Now i received a call from my sales reprocenitive stating that my warrantee was cancelled due to the camera cover which might cost .10 cents. I am paying over $900.00 for this phone and have paid for extended warrantee which LG is now saying they will not cover as well. The lying i have heard from LG service reps is unreal. These phones do over heat and the camera lens after looking at it closely shattered because of the over heating. I have never seen such garbage service from any company as i have with LG

Huawei P9 EVA-L09 All UI and in-app graphics and text has become grainy

This is my first post here, and I come with a really peculiar problem, that drove me insane for the past week.
Here's the deal, about a week ago I noticed that some of the images in my download folder looked kinda funny, as in little boxy and not properly anti aliased, grainy and started looking closer at other pictures and ui elements, just to notice they're all the same, and not only in the phone UI and pictures, but in apps too, the text and pictures on instagram are just not properpy anti aliased, like showing a lower resolution altogether. In Instagram the round graphics are jagged on top and bottom like a line in paint. A white background looks gray dotted all over at regular intervals.
The only thing I can think that could've triggered this was me accessing the recovery to show a friend how to perform a cache partition wipe, then just booted back and making no changes (stock recovery). After noticing the problem I actually performed a cache wipe with no effects.
In safe mode the screen looks the same, and the physical screen is clean, with no oils that could give off this effect.
It's observable as far as 30 centimeters away.
My battery started to drain massively too.
So my question is, is this an hardware issue, or if it sounds like something you've encountered, how could I fix this, and before you say so, it's not all in my head
The firmware version is EVA-L09C432B399, this phone has not been dropped in almost 6 months and it's 13 months old. Thank you in advance!

Meanwhile ive sent a ticket to Huawei Support and they recommended i do an Factory Reset, and so, 3 days ago, i did, good news is my battery life has tripled, bad news, the screen is in the same condition, and i just read in a questionable article, but who knows, that it might have open circuits on the flex cable due to overheating melting the plastics, not likely since i never allow it to overheat, ive been using it extensively since my pc broke though. Or me hitting a table corner while having it back side facing forwards in my front jeans pocket, since the flex cable is right above the battery on the back side, this is still just speculation, and i intend to turn it in for warranty. Keep you posted when i do.

Happened a few times, in class it's really narrow, but usually I take really good care of it, dropped it twice in its lifetime in the first 2 weeks, it was twice as big as the HTC desire I used to have.

Screen lifting on Rog 2

Greeting all! I've had my Asus Rog 2 for a little over a month I'd say. I have the proper Republic of Gamers version. I've noticed on the left side, where the attachment port is. An amount of flex in the screen along the seal. It's probably only a millimetre or so. But it flexes up and down when pressed, seeable from a side on view. The other side where the volume and power buttons are does not that this flex. There is also a light difference to sound when tapping that side of the phone while typing. Which I can only put down to the slight screen compressing on the left. I'm not sure how I can to notice it. Some people have said it might be an intentional aspect of the phone to give a small amount of flex/shock absorption but I can't find anything online mentioning it. I'm more leaning towards it being a fault in my phone. It's not once been dropped always been in a case. So yeah. Anyone able to shed light on this?

Finally. Someone with class and crazy sharp senses. I myself have severe OCD. I used to be very verbal about this kind of stuff on the AC forums xD. But on XDA i toned myself down.
First of all. Asus has crap for Quality Control. I had 2 ROGPHONE 2s with different power button height. And in between the lcd and bezel i could see glue. But okay nevermind.
As for the screen lifting near the accessory port, i do not seem to have it. Did you happen to sit on it? Or put the phone in the back pocket? Remembering that this is a tall phone.

Nope! I don't even take the phone to work with me. I swap to my previous phone.
I'm pretty sure it's a fault. It hasn't caused any issues apart from some annoyance to my OCD. As long as it doesn't worsen it's not something I can't live with.

It will worsen. You should get it replaced. Im sure it will eventually become wider from the flexing. Btw do you use the accessory port often? And do you have a tempered glass applied?

I wouldn't have a clue how. I'm in Australia and I purchased the phone via eBay.
I've used the accessory port once, just to check it out. Used the fan for maybe 15 minutes. Other than that I've never removed the piece of rubber there.
And yes, I have a tempered glass protector applied.

Yeah, it's 100% the screen. You can see the black edge of the screen move up and down from the dark drownish side of the phone. I'll just have to keep an eye on it I suppose. Bit annoying though. Pay almost $1,700 for one of the best phones on the market thinking you're going to get something issue free. Ha.

In Indonesia. Samsung has the best QC. I only had 1 issue with Samsung. Which was dust under the S7 Edge screen. But other than that they're very good. But Asus Indonesia is a joke. Its like we get a refurbished phone. I bought 2 rogphone 2s and each had their own defect. First had glue in between the screen and bezel, and my current unit has different volume/power button height.

Which is why I didn't want to buy the Tencent version. Plus it wouldn't work here correctly without getting into the firmware. I just figured I'd spend the money. Get the good one that'll have no issues. I asked the seller if they had warranty which the answer was no. They referred me to a few companies that do insurance on phones.
I've never bought a real expensive phone before, and my previous phone was 4 or 5 years old. It was an S5.
So it is annoying. But other than that I don't have any complaints about it.

Or you could use it until it shows signs of damage defect. Or bring it to an authorized repair shop. Im guessing lack of glue.

Lack of glue probably is the issue. I might see if there are any places around that can do it. Doubtful there would be around me. Best luck is probably Sydney. Which is a few hours away.

If you like DIY stuff. Try using LOCO glue. They helped me seal my Note 8 when it had cracks.

You seriously dont know how comfortable your comment has made me after reading it. I have always had this habit of checking my belongings (from my phone to my own body and muscles) to make absolutely sure there isnt a single even slighgest problem with it and guess what, there always is something to notice for me!
One of the reasons why I had never opted for an oled phone knowing I will notice the burn-ins one day when there isnt any other person who notices them.
Now I finally decided to go for this phone with the assumption that asus knows how to make gaming stuff, but now I can see several issues already, from the obvious red tint to the screen having lots of bandings and horizontal lines on lower brightness on gray color.
Now I can also feel the volume buttons not needing the same pressure and of of them being softer and also the rgb light on the back being poorly so when the light turns on there are some dots around it that also light up(i know that its only a white paper behind the back glass so if there are any print issues they will also light up)
Althought I dont have any serious issues(yet), im definitely not buying another phone from asus or any other not that famous brands for that matter. My last device was a sony x compact which I had for 3 years from when it came out and I still regret selling it, it was so damn perfect.
Btw, thanks for lettin me know that there is a disorder named OCD, I dont know why I hadnt searched about it already.

One of the reasons why I had never opted for an oled phone knowing I will notice the burn-ins one day when there isnt any other person who notices them.
Now I finally decided to go for this phone with the assumption that asus knows how to make gaming stuff, but now I can see several issues already, from the obvious red tint to the screen having lots of bandings and horizontal lines on lower brightness on gray color.
Now I can also feel the volume buttons not needing the same pressure and of of them being softer and also the rgb light on the back being poorly so when the light turns on there are some dots around it that also light up(i know that its only a white paper behind the back glass so if there are any print issues they will also light up)
Althought I dont have any serious issues(yet), im definitely not buying another phone from asus or any other not that famous brands for that matter. My last device was a sony x compact which I had for 3 years from when it came out and I still regret selling it, it was so damn perfect.
Btw, thanks for lettin me know that there is a disorder named OCD, I dont know why I hadnt searched about it already.

Hi, well thats quite a positive feedback. I had quite a backlash at AC forums. I've had people say that I'm making AC look like a Mental Issue Forum and some user even boasted how happy his credit card is if he buys a new phone when the old 1 is damaged.(credit card lol) Btw, i wouldn't say its a disorder. Different people have different standards. For me the Mercedes Benz S Klasse might be perfect, but for you it might not be.
And my OCD is definitely worse than yours. My phone can only be touched by me, and me myself dont touch the physical buttons(I'm afraid that it will be damaged).
And never feel alone about something. There will always be somebody out there having the same issue but not posting on the forums xD.

Not a fan of DIY.
So I stopped by a phone repair should this Arvo. The guy said to him it looks as though the battery is swelling. He said thats the side the battery is on so that is the most likely reason for it. He asked if the battery life was alright still.
Hard for me to really notice. I only use the phone on weekends and in the afternoons while home. I generally only charge it every second day, and I unplug the charger once it's at 100%. He said it isn't serious at the moment but if I notice battery charge fading fast, or if it swells a lot more to bring it back and he'll be able to put a new one in.
Just my ****ing luck to get shoddy battery, if that's the issue.

Hahahaha battery swell. I wonder what battery Asus uses... Btw, did he open the phone to confirm?

No they didn't. But it's their job so I'd say they can make a pretty fair guess.
I might go back there Monday, as I need my phone this weekend. On Monday I'll go back and tell them to do what needs to be done to fix it.

The battery is on the opposit side from the vent that would be on the left side of the vent, didnt you say that the problem was on the left side of your screen meaning its on the right side of the back??!

Is it? I haven't even checked that. I'll look that up. But yes, it is opposite to the vent.
You're right it is. Interesting. Awesome. Now I'm back to annoyed and confused. Haha.

Yeah trust me the customer services' first guess is battery swell which basicly doesnt happen soon unless you are always charging your phone while playing and overnight and draining it to the last percentage. But is can happen as a result of physical impact or damage, and when it happens you will most probably notice the shortened battery life so I would say it's not a battery problem unless of course proven otherwise.
