Always on Display Infinity Wallpaper - "top light" burn in? - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello,
so I know that the AoD widgets and stars move around to avoid screen burn, even the home button, BUT with the Infinity Wallpapers the AoD also has that glow on the top (where the stars are). That glow goes away in normal use, probably to avoid screen burn, but it stays when my phone is charging. And since I use a wireless charger, I want to keep it there for a big part of the day.
Can anyone tell me if that can cause a burn in? Are there any precautions?

No burn in. Reappears in different spots. Uses very little battery. Not animated.

Thank you for your answer, but I don't understand what you mean with "appears in different spots". The light is always at the same place, at the top of the screen. I kinda feel like it should not stay activated because it doesn't if the phone is not charging.

How deep are the blacks on the Galaxy Note compared to the S1/S2 ?

No this is not another one of those "I've got a screen issue" thread, For those who still have their Galaxy S1/S2 or even a Samsung Wave, how deep are the blacks on the Galaxy Note compared to them?
I ask this since I no longer have any other SAMOLED device aside from the G-Note and I noticed that the black levels are not very deep, infact they are like LCD's with backlit when you view an all black or watch a movie/picture with a good majority of blacks.
Can anyone be so kind as to test and compare in a dark room showing the phone stock test image found under *#0*# ( dialer ) I've been getting reports from other users that the black levels on the G-Note is not as deep as the S1 or S2, Trying to figure out if this is normal or some really bad gamma issue/hardware limits.
Since there has been a HUGE failure of people reading or understanding what this thread is, it is not a complaint thread its more of an inquiry thread on what you are getting with your screen. Those who dont have a previous SuperAMOLED device you guys cannot contribute anything on this thread since you wont have any basis of comparison so please stop trolling.
Darker than a black steer's tookus on a moonless prairie night.
Anyone else with a meaningful post comparing the S1/S2 vs the Note in black levels?
Like any other OLED technology, there is no backlight, so the blacks should be as black as if the screen were off.
What you might be noticing is fringing, the light leaking out from the neighboring pixels.
It could also be an optical illusion (you are seeing a black object with lighter surroundings it might make the blacks "not seem as dark"), I tested it myself, I got an opaque piece of paper with a small hole in it and placed it against a black part of an image, and compared it with the screen off. It looked the same to me.
I can't compare it with the S1 or S2 since I don't have them, but with as with any other OLED screen, as long as the black parts of the image is truly digitally black, as in that part of the picture is 000000 on the RGB color model, it should be equally black as if that part of the screen were off.
No difference in the black levels when they are properly rendered on the note vs gs2. The software bug though sometimes makes blacks grey so viewing the same video on both screens dark areas look better on the gs2. This will be fixed with an update and as others have said true black=off with oled so black will be black on any oled screen.
In gallery i get true blacks and images look the same on both screens apart from much bigger and sharper on the note. If i make this image a lock screen its sometimes grey with banding on the now instead of true black.

Don't know about black, but the screen it's forkin bright, too bright for day time use even on the lowest setting
The Black arent 100% fully black. If you turn the lights lights of you can see some very very deep grey. It black enough tbh, I am not complaining!

If you have a phone with a SAMOLED screen go to a black room and bring up the LCD test menu, the black is at 000000 and you will see a faint glow, you can very easily tell if the screen is displaying a black color or if the screen is locked. Why websites say their testing machines report infinite contrast ratio is beyond me.
If you cant tell the difference of the screen displaying black and when the screen is locked ( off ) either you got the most absolute perfect screen or you need to actually check rather theory craft.

The main point of my question is not about "when rendered properly" just bring up the LCD test menu on your galaxy note and galaxy S2 and check if the note has a higher glow on its black levels. mine is extremely high from what I can remember on the Galaxy S2, infact I can label it an an LCD backlight instead of SAMOLED blacks. But if im in daylight the blacks are pretty good.

Its not about complaining, I just wanted to ask for those who have the note and also have the S1/S2 to make a comparison if the black levels are similar.
Im at a loss as to why this feat is extremely hard for the people who replied on the thread so far, I guess I am asking to much.
No one has the S2 and S1 and the galaxy note. why would they? the note is amazing!
Galaxy Note black has more leak than previous Super AMOLED and Super AMOLED Plus screens.
I'll come up with measurements a bit later.
well, Kabayan i have both... i can confirm your finding that S2 does have deeper blacks... last night i viewed the Dota2 trailer video on S2 and Note side by side... @ the beginning of the clip where there are lots of black displayed, its noticeable in my eyes...
I decided to create a pure black wallpaper on photoshop, transfer it to S2 and Note, set both brightness @ max, go to the complete dark room and view the mentioned wallpaper on gallery; its positive that S2's dsplay shows deeper black than Note... Though i have the display tuning app by SUPERCURIO on my S2 which i think we'll also consider...

An OLED display works without a backlight. Thus, it can display deep black levels and can be thinner and lighter than liquid crystal displays (LCDs). In low ambient light conditions such as dark rooms an OLED screen can achieve a higher contrast ratio than an LCD, whether the LCD uses either cold cathode fluorescent lamps or the more recently developed LED backlight. Due to their low thermal conductivity, they typically emit less light per area than inorganic LEDs.
When the display is "showing" black, the "black pixels" are actually inactive. In other words, the black parts of the screen is off.
The black levels on my screen is also 100% black. If i go into a dark room with a 100% black wallpaper, i won't see the screen.
I have an S1, S2 and Note. Showed all 3 at Samsung service centre just to prove the Note's screen was crap. Should be getting it back to day with a new screen. The S1 screen still seems the best in terms of brightness and uniform white.

Yay supercurio. It's good to see you.
It does have more light leak on pure blacks, but coming from an Atrix (LCD) and an S2 (WVGA), I still love this display the most. The resolution is insane.

Did you happen to get a photo of it?
I compared both with a clear black test screen from walvisions.com min and max brightness blacks where the same to me. I must have a perfect screen or you have a very bad one.
But like i said in my previous post the blacks when actualy in use watching a dark video are much better in the gs2 for what i think is a software issue as they arent rendered properly and dark areas tend to look more like backlit lcd on the note when viewing videos.
Whites are much brighter on the note with min brightness settings then on the gs1.

It is not true, you really should try it before just quoting wikipedia or whichever website that quote came from. Even with a perfectly black image you can easily tell there is backlight.

Very true, the S1 screen was really great.. it really brought the expectation level at an all time high.
There's a lot of variation on the screens we are getting, my Galaxy Note screen has no color variation, banding, dead pixels, and the blacks are real black. In a dark room, displaying a black image, I can't see the limit between screen and plastic bezel. Exactly as with the screen off.
The same with video playback. I recommend to use BBC One Human Planet trailer in HD. It has a lot of colors and transitions to black screens. I see the screen completly back, no difference to the black plastic bezel.
This is a black Galaxy Note, on a black background displaying a mostly black image. Brightness set to maximum.
Now you tell me you can see the limit between SAMOLED screen and plastic bezel

No color variation is plausible, banding is SW issue so nobody is excepted from it unless you can prove it, dead pixels are pretty rare that its a non issue, black levels are lit let yours eyes adjust to the darkness for 3~5mins and you can clearly see a lit black its always been like that since the SGS1 days, your phone is no exception.
Your screen is perfect for you, I respect that and Im very happy for you, wish I had that screen. Cheers!
Response to your added image:
Your image proves nothing since the discussion is about black levels in total darkness while displaying the black image from the LCD test, your picture shows an image displayed making an illusion that the blacks are very deep, I also get the same black levels when im displaying even just a few pixels of white and you have ambient light since I can clearly see the bezel.
Basically we are comparing 2 different things but thank you for trying.

Seriously who uses a phone like that and whats the point of that test. OLED does show a little light in the dark when you do that but my GS2 and note are pretty much the same, during this test I notice some darker blotches on my gs2 screen. Does that mean its faulty? not to me as Ive never noticed it in real use and thats what the device is for not to sit in the dark for 3 minutes to find some obscure issue to complain about.
There are real screen defects that will occur to some people not matter what device you get, then get it replaced. There are confirmed software issues and these will hopefully be addressed soon enough.
Many more people have no physical issues with their screens then the ones that do but its funny how some people just wont accept that and have to believe every screen is faulty.
Seeing a little light through a screen in total darkness is not a hardware fault, maybe you should turn off your phone as it will save your battery and at the same time the screen will be perfectly dark, I prefer to have my screen on and use it but we all use our devices differently

Questions about the burn in of note ! !

Is there any burn in on galaxy note?I have a s8500 and have some horrible burn in like clock,am pm,signal bars, alarm,so many horizontal and vertical lines ! !Is this too present on NOTE?My s8500 is about 1.5 yrs old and started to show burn in 2monts after i bought.
And i also want to know the difference between the saturation of note vs s2
Which one is better, samoled vs samoled +?
Thankx in advance
I believe its too early to say anything about the screen burn. I have owned the phone since November, and my screen seams fine so far. If you are that worried about it, you can install launchers that hide the status bar, or allow transitions in the start pages.
Regarding the saturation, the S II is too saturated causing unreal colors. No idea if that changed with ICS though. You should head over to SII forums for that. The Note displays colors closer to what they really are. They still are a bit saturated though.
As far as amoled+ vs amoled HD is concerned, I would suggest the later. 1280x800 with 5.3 inch screen looks much better than 4.3 with 800x480. In the end, its your choice. Compare the 2 in hand and pick what fits your needs.
I've had mine since November also. I have a black wallpaper with white Android logo in center. Have noticed that the Android image will faintly show on dark app backgrounds, am a little concerned. It's very faint.

Trick for status bar burn in is to switch between 12 and 24 hour clocks every week. It shifts everything over slightly
Also depending on the launcher you use. You can hide the dock and status bar
Just to clarify things...
The burn in problem is not specific to some AMOLED based models!
All AMOLED based phones will get the burn in problem sooner or later!
I just recently switched from a Black Note to a White one, the first had a bit more than four months use and I noticed that the screen, while not burned in, wasn't as bright as it used to be and I found myself increasing the brightness more and more month after month. Then when I switched to a White Note, wow, I didn't remembered how bright the screen was initially!
So yes, our beloved Notes suffer from that Burn-in problem just like any other AMOLED smartphone.
Also, take caution when using it outside, since our screens also degrade under extended periods of UV light exposure! No matter if the screen is on or off!
Another good reason to use a Super LCD based screen like the one on the One X.
Cheers!

Yes the note can suffer from pixel wear a.k.a. burn out.
To prevent this:
Use launchers that hide the notification bar on home screens.
Don't use apps that don't have the option to hide the notification bar.
Use full screen browsing with browsers such as Opera Mobile
And don't leave static images on the phone for extended periods of time.
And for the love of god don't use a cradle or docking station because that will destroy your screen! Think about it? Leaving your phone on all day at work in its docking station showing the time and weather. What do you think is going to happen to that screen?
No burn in here at all, heavy user since Note launch.
I have always used Opera though which allows full screen mode so my status bar is always obscured during web browsing and games.
Thank god I didnt buy one of those yet. I mean who releases a phone that has these problems? The AT&T store is a good example of burn-in. You see the low brightness, lines and butned in launcher icons. Thats what has held me back so far.

Not trolling, that is what i saw when messing with any amoled screen device in the att store. When browsing or navigating through screens i would see launcher icons. These were display devices though. I did want a Note but this is what scared me from it. The SGS2 also exhibited this behavior. So now to see if the SGS3 does the same thing, i'm due for an upgrade and want to try a different device other than the iPhone (pending what the iPhone 5 brings). I also noticed lines(greenish hues) when viewing white webpages, but this was strictly on the Note, not the SGS2 or Skyrocket variant.
So I do believe this is strictly related to the amoled displays because reading other topics i see this being issue being brought up often(Q&A section of this sub forum has screen issues brought up often). I'm just concerned because I did want a Note, waiting for ICS and keep reading about it(that is why I am here). My last visit to the AT&T store made me search for those issues. If I am going to buy something I want it to work for 2 years without fail.

Yes the Note experiences burn in ESPECIALLY with STATIC images. The android status bar is a static image so it will wear out all the amoled LED's near the top of the screen especiall the blue LED's.
If you set your lock screen time out to like 1 minute then after a few months you will begin to see the amoled pixel wear. To see this, view your screen on an all Blue, Gray or Green background.
As vibrant and beautiful as Amoled is I would prefer a super LCD screen on my Note.
Why cant just the dev create a transparent status bar?

Ive had mine since december and use my phone loads and i had a massive burn in from status bar, so sent it off the samsung for a new screen, they repleced fine nd had it back in a week. Screen is sweet now, i now use fullscreen browsing on my phone because thats when i mostly uae my note, hopeully i houldnt suffer as bad now.
That is bad. I have to cancel may NOTE plan and go for the less desirable optimus VU. My phone activity requires to much static moments like thinking long at a chessboard.
I have 3 notes 2 black and 1 white.. Entire family uses note.. Both the blacks have burn in on top.. Visible in all blue or grey background.. Black's have been used for 8-9months while white is just 5months old..

Check out the burn in on this...
Have had my Note since november, I'm not experiencing any burn-in whatsoever.
SGS2 has an RGB layout which will burn in faster.
The blue pixels in AMOLED displays suffer the worst from degradation.
As a pentile layout uses a shared green pixel for the red and the blue, the red and blue pixels are smaller.
Therefore degradation is less noticeable. But it will happen eventually.
In fact one of the reasons Samsung has switched to a pentile layout for the Note and SGS3 is because of the longevity of their panels.
I'm very curious about the Note 2 screen as I understand it's RGB.
My dad has a SGS2 and the burn-in was absolutely horrible.
He wen't to a service center and screen burn-in was covered by Samsung's two year warranty.
No problems there.

Daan

The Galaxy S was pentile and it was notorious for burn out. I dont think rgb is any better or worse than pentile when it comes to amoled wear.

[Q] Screen Burn-In

I was at a Best Buy store today and was playing with the demo unit when I noticed the shadow of a large circle in the middle of the screen that would be more or less visible depending on how light the background image of the screen was. Upon closet inspection, with a bright white blank screen, I saw the Motorola M in the middle of the circle and realized it was the logo (in the same spot and the same size as the logo that displays on the boot up animation). I got a clerk to open a new demo unit and power it on so we could compare but there was nothing on the new unit's screen. Has anyone else had burn in on their screen? I'm particularly worried about the Google search bar that is ever present on the home screen. This could definitely keep me from pulling trigger and finally buying one if it's a problem.

I had a GNexus--two years--no burn in. The reason the Best Buy units are burned in is because they are at 100% brightness all the time; the screen rarely turns off. You'll be fine. Plus, you have a SGS3--you're just as likely to get burn in.
My gnex has "burn in" on the navigation and status bar. That's why they are going to transparent bars, and more full screen capability. It's really not burn in, it's just pixels that are not used showing the uneven wear.

Fair enough, it just really freaked my out considering I'm on the verge of ordering the device (word to $50 off from Verizon, today through Monday). It also weirded me out that it was the Motorola logo... not something that's ever on tree screen for long periods of time by itself (that I know of). I just know that as soon as I place my order the wooden backs will be released...

Actually, I saw the moto logo/boot animation on a demo model at the Verizon store. If that is their demo then then it would burn on. As others said, don't worry about it. Those phones have no screen timeout and are very abused.

I saw a Gnex demo unit in a VZW store where the whole stock launcher, icons, and wallpaper burned into the screen.

P-OLED Burn-in... after 3 days!!!

If you've read much about the Moto 360, you probably know about the ongoing issue of the thin plastic backs cracking near the band. Unfortunately, it's looking your our LG watches may have a major flaw of their own:
I received my G Watch R on Thursday evening, and after trying a few watch faces decided on the Aviator. I really liked the classic look as well as the weather info. So, the watch ran with that face all day Friday and Saturday, set to Screen Always On and a brightness of 3. At night, I set it to Screen Off.
Today (Sunday) I was showing my daughter the watch and changed to a softball face I found on facerepo.com. When dimmed, I noticed a strange mark in the yellow background. Upon closer inspection, I recognized it as the wings and hour marking of the Aviator face. So... after only 3 days (2 and a half, really) the P-OLED screen as developed burn-in. Granted in only is visible on a yellow or orange dimmed screen, but it is there. Which makes me wonder how long it will be before the burn-in is visible on a non-dimmed face?
The reason I bought the W Watch R over the Moto 360 is because I HATED the way the 360 screen shuts off unless it was constantly moving. I wanted to glance at the watch and see the time without flopping my arm around. Now I'm concerned that the feature that sold me on the watch will result in a damaged screen within a few weeks.
Please do me a favor and install Facer and the softball face, and let me know if you see burn-in on the dimmed screen as well. If so, LG might have a major problem on their hands.
if not mistaken..this is not the G watch issue..but the OLED issue. all the OLED have such burn in issue. just like what happen to the playstation vita 1st gen who has the OLED screen on it.
If an OLED screen is being used on a G watch, it IS a G watch problem. You don't use a screen technology with known burn-in issues (I just read a few minutes ago that P-OLED is supposedly worse than standard OLED) on a smart watch which will display the same icons an characters for days on end. I've had OLED phones in the past with no burn-in issues, so I was not aware of the problem until today. If the burn-in issue gets worse over time (mine is visible after 3 days), LG will have a serious problem on their hands and simply saying "it's an OLED issue" won't make people feel any better especially considering the $300 price tag.

so far i havent really use a watch face for long period ..i change almost everyday. and now i am more worry on the power saving watch face will cause issue to the phone..
this is the OLED happen to ps vita...and now sony has change the 2nd gen vita to use LCD instead of OLED..many new user has complaint that the new LCD screen has lousier screen than 1st gen OLED..especially the colour..
well thats worrying. i havent noticed any on mine yet but ive been changing between watch faces almost daily but now ive found one i like and im worried im going to face the same
I've been using the same face for a while now and haven't really notice any burn. Does the facer watchface have a dimmed mode? It might be because it's constantly on full that it burns in.
The Aviator isn't a Facer style. It's a purchased face from the Android Market, and it does dim. It doesn't shut off everything but the markers and hands, but it does dim the whole face. Did you try checking for burn-in on the dimmed softball face? It isn't apparent unless you have a solid dimmed background (yellow or orange work best). The default face for an app called WearFaces is orange and shows burn-in as well when the screen dims. Give it a try.
I'm sure it's a result of the screen being always on, even in a dimmed state. I could obviously reduce the burn-in by switching ambient mode off, but it defeats one of the main advantages that the LG watch has over the Moto 360. I had a 360 for a week, and it drove me nuts. It's a nice looking watch, but it always seemed like the screen was off when I wanted it on and it would pop on when I wanted it off. It's primarily a watch, and when you have to keep moving your arm around to check the time, it become a burden rather than a convenience.
This is excellent example of why you should not use light colored watch faces. Burns battery and looks terrible. Remember on OLED, black means "off". A mostly black watchface burns almost no juice.
That softball face looks ridiculous anyway. Stick with Aviator.
Last point. Always on is just dumb. Why do you want your watch face on when you aren't looking at it, to impress chicks? Besides burning battery, an always on face is more difficult to activate the on face and thus Google Now. It activates faster from off to on than from slightly on to on.

Your comment isn't even a solution or helpful at all. He's looking for someone to confirm the burn in issue. Honestly I have a hard time seeing it on the picture he submitted, but as someone who's interested in buying the watch I would like to know if this is a problem as well.
What happens if he takes your advice, sticks with a particular watch face for a long time, then decides he wants to change it to something else? If there is burn in, then it's going to be noticeable, no matter what watch face he uses. Your suggestion could be harmful.
Always on is not dumb. I have a Pebble and love the fact that I don't need to do anything crazy to see the time. I just look at it. No gestures, or interaction required. I would want / expect the same from any watch I plan on replacing it with. Otherwise there is a huge lack of convenience there. It's not to "impress chicks". And if you knew anything about "chicks" you'd know that stuff like this doesn't impress them and 95% of them could probably care less about some gadget.
You need to be aware how to handle OLED displays. I learned my lesson in the hard way (with some previous phones) so, I now handle them with care and I have no problems anymore (both my Razr I - 2 years old, and my Watch R - 2 weeks old, are in perfect shape). I intend to buy an OLED TV soon as well .
So, long story short .... if you want long life out of your OLED screen you need to:
A: NEVER use it at max (or high) brightntness more than few seconds with a static image.
B: ALWAYS use more green/red themes because red and green are the most resilient OLED compounds (with the current manufacture technologies).
C: Use very very VERY LOW brightness for the "screen saver" - in our case, always on/dim mode.
D: WHITE has a lot of blue in it ... so, a long time of white theme usage will create burn-in in all colours, especially in the blue colour - the less resistant compound (3 times faster deprecation compared to red, 4-5 times compared to green) so avoid high contrast elements in high brightness mode.
E: Default DIM mode of the Watch G is waaaaay to bright for the purpose of the "dim" mode. A black, transparent layer is needed on top of the dim mode in order to prevent this (with the current firmware at least)
Conclusion: Choose wisely a pre-made face or build your own with the appropriate dim mode brightness.
Attached is my watch face (made for Watch Maker) and the basic colours tests (all photos captured few minutes ago). I tried to capture the appearance of the watch as seen with the naked eye (depending on your monitor calibration, your view might vary).
With this type of face I did not got any burn-ins and I'm using it with always on mode activated (I like the feeling of a real watch so I'll be able to take a glimpse at the watch and tell the time, without shacking it, bring it horizontally or pushing buttons). The brightness for "normal" use is set between 1 and 2 (approximate). I'm using Wear Mini Launcher which has an advanced brightness mode under settings.
For testing I used Stuck Pixel Fixer
@ro_explorer how do you use a tinted watch face only when screen is off but not when on? Using facer app I can apply a tinted black image always and that's it

OLED screens get burn-in. Everyone knows this.

The LG G R shifts the image from time to time to prevent burn-in.

I have no idea what are the advantages&limitations of "Facer". In "WatchMaker" I'm adding a black picture on top of everything, set the proper transparency to achieve the desired brightness ... then I set that object to be visible only in "dim mode"

Please stop while you're behind. You are embarrassing your fellow Charlotteans. You need to realize that your opinions are not shared by everyone, so expressing yourself the way you do just makes you look like a troll. Not everyone knows that OLEDs burn-in. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of people who buy consumer electronics don't know what an OLED is let alone that a burn-in problem exists. Finally, I was using the Aviator face and only switched to the softball one temporarily because my daughter asked me to. Even if I did prefer that softball watch face, that's my choice so please refer back to my previous statement. In short, do people a favor and actually read posts before you comment on them and even then, ask yourself if you are actually contributing anything to the conversation. If not, don't hit the enter key and just move on.

It does and it's shifting randomly between one pixel and 4-5 pixels. You can see it if you have enough patience to watch the dim mode for 2 minutes continuously. The shift happens every minute and it is most visible on watch faces with hour markers. You will se a misalignment every minute and every time in another direction.
With this I also want to make everyone aware that if they are using bright elements in their designs, if the respective elements are no more than 2 pixels wide, they will not cause that much burn-in because the dim mode pixel shifting will move that object around enough to let the main pixels "rest". That why you can see in my design, all objects (letters/numbers and watch hands) are thin.
One more tip for designers: leave a 4-5 pixels wide circle, black, around your watch face in dim mode. In this way you will prevent ugly visible misalignments when pixel shifting does occur.
Thanks for this thread.
I was not aware of this "issue".
Will be interesting how this thread evolves and how other users experience the burn-ins.
In case you weren't able to see the burn-in in my original post, this picture is a bit better. I created a gray background which I dropped into the WearFaces app (standard and dimmed). When the screen dims, this is the burn-in I'm seeing. I did run the brightness at 6 for an hour or two when I was outside in daylight, but otherwise it was set to 3 or less. Please keep in mind that this is only visible when the screen is dimmed in ambient mode, but I'm concerned that it will get considerably worse over time and will eventually be noticeable all the time. It's not visible on the Stuck Pixel app because the brightness for the individual colors is too high.
I realize that Android Wear shifts the image, but if the illuminated area is wider than a few pixels it's not going to do much to eliminate the burn-in.
As for the comments that from certain people that everyone knows about OLEDs burn-in and only idiots set the screen to always on... apparently LG didn't know any better either, since they ship the watch set to ambient mode by default and the brightness on 4.
I've attached the gray PNG background if anyone wants to try it. Remember, the burn-in is only visible when the screen is dimmed (on mine anyway).
I recommend you to use this software for one or 2 hours.
Crank up the watch brightness to maximum, set the app to switch colours every 500ms and let it cycle for an hour between RGB only. Then put the whole colours and let it run for another hour.
The default switching time is very short because the app is designed to unstuck stucked pixels ... you want to force even output of all pixels so you need to keep them ON for longer time.
I cannot guarantee it will completely fix your issue but it will make it far less visible for sure.
Remember, do this with the brightness at max level for about 2 hours.
Explanation: even illumination of ALL pixels of the same colour (RGB switch phase) should even a little the "wear" of the pixels so, all the pixels of the screen will become more equal in terms of light level output.
When you run all the colours (the other colours are mixtures between 2 major RGB components) so it will equalise the light output between each pair of RGB, resulting in the end an even illuminated display.
If you are going to try that, post here the results please. That methodology worked on 2 personal AMOLED phones until now (showing similar issues).
it possibly explains the designs of the stock watch faces, all with thin lines to allow for the pixel shifting to work. im wondering if LG will be funny about RMA as the cause is technically the custom unofficial watch face. I hate to suggest it and i hope im wrong because your burn in is really bad on the gray background. ive switched back to stock watch faces but its a bit disappointing as i loved my custom Tag face
@ED2O9 do you plan on sending for RMA?

GALAXY Note 9 Screen quality?

I have in the past used Note 1 then upgraded to Galazy S4 and now Note 9. When I tried all these devices in store before buying. Their screens appeared to be excellent. But once I bought them and used them for a few days I slowly started to see issues with screens. The note 1 I had slowly developed this redness on right edge of the phone over time visible only on grey background under low brightness. I got it replaced 3 times but then gave up. After that when I switched to S4 it had this reddish top and greenish bottom visible only on low brightness and white or light grey background. I got it replaced once and again got a similar screen with the same issue plus overall slightly yellowish tint on the whole screen. So once again I gave up and was using the same device from past 5.8 years. Now when I tried the Note 9 in stores i just loved the screen and ordered it. Now after using it for a few days I find on light backgrounds that the screen is slightly brighter at the bottom than the top. In fact it's like it's whiter at the bottom than at the top. I was thinking are there amoled screens which have uniform whiteness/brightness across the screen. In all other aspects the screen is perfect to me but this issue once I know it's there is somewhat annoying to me. How is your screen ?

dont think they had oled on the note 1 or s4 yet. but i can assure you that since Samsung made OLED, these screens are the best out there. and to tell you the truth, any 2018 screen would trump what you may have experienced in the past.

You do know that Sony is failing in the smartphone department right? They currently in the same situation as LG. Unfortunately, the screen won't save their smartphone division.
Edit: Playstation is where Sony gets their money these days. Sad to see.
"A growing thorn in Sony’s side is its mobile handset business which counts its revenue, primarily from its Xperia line of handsets under the Mobile Communications segment. Sales of $6.88 billion were down 5% from the previous year and the group posted a loss of $255 million.
The mobile communications group guided to a further 12% drop in sales for fiscal 2018 and a projected loss of $138 million. The group does see some light at the end of the tunnel – 5G wireless technology."
They gave been losing money year over year, quarter over quarter man. Their lack of innovation is dragging them down like LG.
By the way, last edit. Sony didn't make that OLED screen. LG Display did.
Displaymate rated the Note 9 as having the best display ever on a mobile phone. Just as they did for the S9, and Note 9 before that. Pretty much every new top of the line Samsung device trumps the best there was before it.... and the best there was has pretty much always been on a Samsung device. Sammy makes the best displays.
In any case, you can find other very good displays on other phones that look pretty much as good, but when a place like Displaymate puts a "best ever" sticker on a device's display, it is for a reason. Note 9 display is not much different than the Note 8 display for instance, but it is enough of an improvement to warrant the top billing from Displaymate.

Actually,it appears to be nothing more than a marketing company hired by Sony:
https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/xperia-xz3/
https://www.strategyanalytics.com/
https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=1051783
All companies on this level tend to use such garbage "research" for marketing, all claims like this should come with an e-coupon code for a pinch pound of salt.
What's worse is peeps getting their panties in a wad, feeling the need to either rationalize their choice in phones, trolling those that have "x" phone,& the fanboi behavior that's fueled by the fluff articles.
The Note 9 is a nice phone, got one myself.
Is it the absolute best out there? In the eye of the beholder & nothing more.
Others choosing something else is equally fine, one would be hard-pressed to actually find a truly terrible phone w/o intentionally seeking one out.
Note 9 earpiece smudges won't go away
Hey I guys I bought the note9 from 6 days ago. One day I was just rubbing the top bezel ( the space that has selfie camera, iris, led, ect) suddenly I saw 2 smudges, one above the earipeice, one under. I kept rubbing it and it doesn't go away. I believe that maybe when I was rubbing my hands were sweating so water entered beneath the glass. Here's a picture I posted here so maybe you'll get what I mean. If anyone has this issues or fixed please share it here. If the attachment is not working please say.
Thanks

My Note 9 has an even white color across the whole screen. It also has a bit truer whites than my Note 8. Part of that may be that my Note 8 is now a year old, but overall I believe Samsung tuned the contrast down a bit on the Note 9 from the Note 8. Just to be clear, I am using the exact same display settings on both phones.... so I am getting an accurate comparison of the Note 9 vs Note 8. There is very little difference, you'd have to literally be looking at them side by side to notice the slight difference.

Compare home screen icons on the note 8 and note 9. Let me know what difference you see. I see the note 9 not being as sharp. But then on the same token , the note 9 like I said earlier is more natural and appeasing to the eyes.
